    Put Frederick in a puffy shirt and dye his hair white and he’d look like a classical era composer. What a guitar wizard he is.

  • @captainflamson
    @captainflamson 9 лет назад +266

    In a world filled with "shredders", Fredrik is more than just a well rehearsed technician, he is one of the few modern era guitarists with true style. So bloody fluid, but his phrasing and composition create solos that are musically important to the whole of the song. He's his own man, but if you crossed Yngwie with Allan Holdsworth and found a young apprentice to drink the potion, he might grow into a Wizard like Fredrik.

      As much as I love the Heir Apparent solo, that Nepenthe solo is nuts. Heir Apparent has hard stretches (especially legato that fast) but the string skipping with Nepenthe is ridiculous.

    • @greekfreak1980
      @greekfreak1980 8 лет назад +4

      Yup,the guy is a monster guitarist,check out the stuff he did with Talisman,before he joined Opeth,albums like ''Humanimal'',''Life'' or ''Genesis'',of the best melodic hard-rock stuff from the 90's.Specially that synchronised bass/guitar shredding with Marcel Jacob(R.I.P.) is amazing.He was only 19,when Marcel Jacob discovered him and hired him for Talisman.

  • @pipschannel1222
    @pipschannel1222 Год назад +10

    The fluency Frederik has in his playing is beyond this world. Those legato parts are killer! Really one of world's most underestimated players imho.. His melodic style sometimes reminds me of Marty Friedman. Both are focused on melody instead of speed and both of them would be insulted when called "shredders" ;-)
    Also really like his contribution to the new Ghost album. Those solos are kind of "simple" and "poppy" compared to Opeth's proggressive style which is really out there but they hit the nail on the head, awesome 👌

    Will be more helpful if messenger will make tabs and put it in video to display(bottom, corner, up, somewhere else). So everyone could stop the video and play pattern again and again.

    Akesson is using old-school study and discipline, and taking that mastery to write solos that fit like a glove into the tracks they've written. He's obviously tremendously talented, but he's also spent countless hours doing his scales and arpeggios with a metronome.

    I've been at that tapping lick all day, I still can't play it fast while muting the other strings that aren't supposed to be played...How in the fuck can you play it that fast and mute the strings so well? What's the trick that I'm missing here?

    • @dneuens
      @dneuens 8 лет назад

      +Master Exploder Correct. I always advise people to do this, but most find it hard because we all want to play it full speed yesterday. Even I can be guilty of it, but it's the #1 way to frustrate yourself. I have to always ask myself, "would you rather work on this for a few weeks and have it sound great, or try and play it full speed with poor mechanics where you'll always struggle to play it clean and consistent?"

    • @5urg3x
      @5urg3x 8 лет назад

      +Dylan Neuens
      I appreciate the advice guys, but it's not like this is my first rodeo.
      Of course I start slow and play to a metronome...But I've been at this for over a month now, and I'm not getting any better at it. I can play it at about 75% of the speed he does it here, any faster than that and I start making mistakes and there is noise from the other strings.
      IMHO it's even *more frustrating* to work so hard on it and doing it properly from the start, yet still not be able to get there after months of trying every day. I am not going to stop trying though :)

    • @dneuens
      @dneuens 8 лет назад +1

      surgeyX Some techniques take a long time to build and master (sometimes years). I get frustrated with really challenging stuff, too. Even if I don't have the patience to get it 100%, it's at least something new to put in my toolbox.
      Keep at it and you'll get it eventually, mate. Best of luck!

    When doing hammers I do keep my fingers curled and use only the finger tips to strike the string, however, for pull-offs I find it necessary to allow the tip joints to collapse as it seems to allow the fingers to be more relaxed, especially the ring and the pinky which share a tendon. Not sure if this is technically correct, but if I play pull-offs with perfectly curled fingers and keep the tip joints tensed so they don’t collapse, my hand feels stiff and I have difficulty playing legato passages, especially those which involve ring and pinky… any ideas?
