0:38 - "we did a record called Blackwater Park." Yeah, no big deal.
They sound so down to earth, and they go from sounding like they're not all that knowledgeable to ripping out something complex. You really want to know how much they know musical theory, and how much is just them, their ears, experimentation, etc.
@Manley156 man, you just got into one of the greatest bands ever. blackwater park is the perfect place to start.
@Manley156 same.
LoL.
They have so many great records but blackwater park is the one i come back to the most
4:03 “I even got myself a hat” - Mikael
It's cool to see him smiling and how humble he is
4:38 "i need to keep it easy because i'm 'singing' " Very humble! Mikael is such a cool dude
*6:00** "i almost did that with my mouth"*
*yeah me too everytime i hear a wah*
More bands like Opeth on Reverb please!!!
Oh wait, there are no bands quite like Opeth...
Ok, MORE OPETH ON REVERB PLEASE!
Thank you
Check Obsidian Tide.
Ne Obliviscaris
Soen
Please have a check on Katatonia at once too!
@@wowla1Fall of the Leafe, and Persefone are other bands that are kinda Opethy, really good bands imo but I still come back to Opeth. Also Obsequiae is good too imo. Lol some of these sweedish bands have weird names.
Mikael is always too humble. "We did a record called Blackwater Park", making it sound like he doesn't expect us to know the record. Also during a show he was talking about Blackwater Park being labelled a classic record and thought it made no sense. Blackwater Park is like the Led Zeppelin IV of extreme metal.
@Fangalatic can’t understand the hell about Blackwater Park. Still life is much better
Opeth has so much emotion and melody. While being so heavy. Best metal band out there. Even if they dont do alot of heavy songs anymore in their setlist still great
Porcupine tree amazing too
I have to agree. There is no band like these guys. My cousin got me into them back in 07 with Blackwater Park. I immediately went and bought Watershed. I listened to nothing but that album for a good solid 2 months.
Finally a demo of the guitars through the gear to hear the different sounds by the actual artists.
Not only that, but the audio from the mics in front of the cabs!
Rig Rundown beware: Reverb has stepped into the ring lol
it's the same without someone asking questions on camera.
Here we are: ruclips.net/video/nAn73hs3Kfg/видео.html
@@premierguitar your editing guys could learn a lot from this Reverb video tbh
Premier Guitar it took me a while to realize it wasn’t you who posted this video
They've slipped since they lost Rebecca Dirks.
1:14 "you don't wanna queensryche it too much" - mikael
a life motto
I laughed a little too hard at this one.
@Fangalatic or maybe it was just queensryche doing all the time but are kinda of lame.
@Fangalatic cus he totally could have said dont wanna yngwie malmsteen it too much. But we all know thats blasphemy
@@JimJoness619 That is especially blasphemous for a Swede.
Fredrik is so gifted ! Can play just about anything ! Insane vibrato and chops for days !
Oh man, it's been over a decade since I listened to Opeth. Blackwater Park became my favorite album of any band ever back when it came out. Time for a re-visit.
mecha bouncybunny i had the same thought.
Blackwater Park is one of the greatest Metal albums of all time. Genius album.
I saw Opeth the day this was filmed. It was an awesome show
@Mi Movil February 14, 2020
Old Man's Rock! Favorite phrase ever, thank you Opeth.
Finally some Good Prog on Reverb! 😎👌
He’s become my favorite musician of all time. Sooo humble! Amazing guitarist!
9:14 what realistic acoustic tone, I'm so surprised
I have a piezo pickup on one of my Ibanez guitars and it sounds just like a mic'ed acoustic. It's a shame they aren't more common.
Hatten, hatten HATTEN HATTEN!
The entire crowd in Oslo - Norway, earlier this year.
Look at that scarf and knit sweater! Seriously, is this guy a time traveller from the 70s?
Maybe. He plays Death metal in a 70s prog style.
Pretty sure both are timeless, lol.
Fredrik has slowly become a favorite. Really enthusiastic and cool guy! Hopefully he'll write more together with Mikael, or makes something new on his own.
Bra snack i Guitar Geeks förresten! Om du mot förmodan skulle se det här
You had me at "bra snack."
What's a bra snack?
i think he only writes solos in opeth, yes would love to hear a solo record by him!
Suyash J Is swedish for ”Good talk” or ”nice conversation”. He is referring to another interview
@@ejRecording missed this one lol, but porcelain heart, strange brew and pyre are songs he has co-written with Mikael. I'm sure they could do more. Check this one out btw ruclips.net/video/cSOWXIMyWc4/видео.html
This is awesome! So pleased with the output generally on reverb. 😁👍 also this was so close to being Spinal Tap it is unreal! Really great interview and really funny! Ace! 😁👍👍👍👊🤘
Love opeth!!! Thanks reverb!
Top thank you !!
Fredrik's tone is fantastic!!!
I’m in love with this new album
Heckin' yeah, awesome tour rig.
They should have interviewed Mendez as well
He is notoriously interview shy.
What do you throw a drowning bassist? His amp.
Soooo cool!! I am glad there are still things he -Mikael- can discover...("I didn't know what that was for...") 😁🤘
Opeth has one of the best live sounds I’ve ever heard. Seen them with Ghost and Mastodon.
It's nice to see the actual artists doing a rig rundown, plus they play samples to boot.
That black 245 of Fredrik is freakin' gorgeous!
That thing is incredible...the flamed maple fretboard with the birds 😵
Greatest metal band ever for me!
In America we have a saying that translates well...Fredrik is so underrated...anyone can get technically good...but he plays the the tastiest licks
Opeth is my favorite band. One thing I like about them is the variety of guitar tones they use. They don't just use heavy saturation. Prog metal allows for a lot of creativity in that regard.
I must be the only person on earth who thinks Morningrise is awesome, probably because that was my first Opeth experience. Anyways these guys have always seemed very chill and down to earth, good video
Amazing! Opeth! \m/
Fredriks shirt is just beautiful!
what a beautiful neck on the PRS single cut WOW|!
Man Frederik's P245 looks so good with that maple fretboard.
Opeth knows how to make reverb awesome
I remember going to see them in a tiny venue in Dublin on the deliverance tour, before they exploded and both guitarists were using Boss GT3s
4:14 after 3 years he´s discover the volume button, because they don´t need to low the volume, never. great white guitar
Was hoping he'd play the wilde flowers solo, absoulute masterpiece, the dude had insane skills, infact theyre both completely awesome.
Grönt är skönt! :)
"Old Man's Rock" is my favorite genre
I'm just here for his awesome belt buckle. It grants the user powers when singing Opeth lyrics - much like Carl's Foreigner belt on ATHF.
I found it online and bought it😀
One of the only bands with no crappy albums!
*No bad albums before Peter and Martin split.
@@benjaminrapp7418 the albums after they left aren't bad at all lmao
4:15 Are you serious Mike? Like, c'mon
3:16 "Old Man Rock Tones" haha
I love Opeth so much
holy shit, i had this in my feed and never really got into Opeth but i was curious to see his rig
can't help but notice how much Mike looks so much like Rodney Mullen if he had a stache
Omh Id love to see a duo tour of Mikael with Bill Bailey. Hes so Spinal Tap and he knows it 😂. "Friend said no you have the guitar its too good for me" lol
Old man's rock
Everyone is saying that they are so humble and I think the reason that many swedes (like them) are humble is because we have like a saying or rule kinda that´s called jönte-lagen which basically says "dont brag to much or think that you are something special".
Fredrik has a pretty killer set-up here
old mans rock . he mentions that in the other vids . cool dude
It’s a shame how PRS produced their signature models for such a short time.
Fr. PRS targets blues lawyers (don't get me wrong I love the blues) but their most important musical legacy will be Opeth.
I've been looking into different tunings to spark a different approach to the guitar, and what do you know, Fredrick mentions DADFAE at 2:13. I'm going to try it out! They also mention Drop A, but that might be a bit much for me.
They used the dadfae for the Ghost Reveries record
take a look at karnivool tunings they also use dadfae too
I only like my ebony stealthy Gibsons
But Mikael made realize that a Green PRS is also always good💚
wow are they humble
Synergy amp is something I’d like to have.
Mikael looks healthier, but also older. He got worryingly skinny in the recent years.
0:19 He's talking about Jonas from Katatonia, they're buddies.
No,he’s talking about Anders
He said it in other interviews, it's the black CE24 you can see in the making of Blackwater Park, he got it from Renkse
@@DaveGOfield I watched him saying Anders ask him what guitar he should buy and because he wanted that one and he didn’t have the money at the time he told him to buy it.Then later Anders told him that it’s too good for him and ask him if he wants to buy it, which he did..
🙌🤘
🤘🤘
the Black Magic of the Metal
🤘
3:40 oldman getting excited about new tech XD
Green is nice
John Myung's Itw and Opeth? Thank you ❤️❤️❤️
"Well, yes, it's one louder"
You should do this with Reine Fiske from Dungen.
What happened to PRS SE Mikael Akerfeldt signature? A wonderful guitar you cant find anymore
Wheres the hat Mikael? It's part of the gear too!
Loved how he used Queensryche as a verb haha
i wanted a prs guitar because Mikael Akerfeldt shows how the prs guitars sound not by a Santanas songs.
Mikael does not give himself enough credit. He's an effing genius and seems like he doesn't know.
That Small Stone pedal reminds me of Porcupine Tree.
It would look nerdy... Hahaha
1:54 Leper Affinity
Mikael "I also got a hat" Akerfeldt
anyone know what kind of "wide" strap Mikael is using?
Wish I could afford a PRS though 😂
TheSunMoon their SE line is still worthwhile! Better than a mexican fender or an epiphone by far
Need to upgrade to the Fractal FM9
But where is the video for Martin Mendez?
Where does Mikael keep the comedian that writes all his jokes?
Blues Metal
Lasse Åberg
"you don't want to Queensryche it"
🤓🎵
1:54
I totally forgot what song this riff is from... can someone help me out?!
The Leper Affinity
He had that guitar for 3 years, yesterday he discovers what the switch do
4:47 What is that chord?
It's the beginning of Opeth-Deliverance
It's not actually a chord :)
F# flat fifth
Stig helmer in da hus
I dont like the sound of the prs they must be nice to play because everyone plays them. They seem to sound all the same kinda thin and 80s like .. Not fat like a 70s gibson sound.. I love the strat tone on still life album
I don’t get it. So are they not using amps?
No HM-2 with this swedish outfit ;)
What song is the octave riff at 1:54 from?
The leper affinity from Blackwater Park, masterpiece
Leper Affinity chorus "Your body is mine to avail, such a tragic sight you are..." One of the best choruses ever.
I guess they don't use their signature models anymore :(
its discontinued, sadly. i always liked the mikael akerdfeldt signature.
Mikael needs to go back to Bloodbath !
