He declined and we were a bit rushed to complete this as they had to do soundcheck for both Opeth and Graveyard (with setup) in less than 90 minutes. Crunch time!
I'm jonesing for one with the piezo system...I was bummed when the ptc said they can't install a piezo trem in a solid body guitar....I was disppoizzle
If you know anything about soundchecks you would understand. They give you 30 min if you lucky and he also had to go trough Michaels rig as well so it’s”hurry up!”.You learn something new everyday so there you have it.
Freddy is such an underrated player, he can pretty much crush in any style you can think of! Really humble and cool guy too, this was a great segment !
Sid R. Years ago when he was playing with Arch Enemy I met him after a show they played at a club. After the show he was at the bar hanging out with fans and drinking beers for a about a hour. Cool guy and when I told him I played guitar we started talking about our favorite guitar players, gear and vintage guitars that we’d like to own.
Awesome video! Opeth is an amazing band and it was great seeing Fredrik demoing his sounds. They are really great at recreating the feel of the albums live - it's really impressive.
I highly recommend to everybody who´s not familiar with Fredrik´s career,to check out Talisman. That was the band founded by Marcel Jacob (former Yngwie Malmsteen bassist) and fronted by Jeff Scott Soto (also former Yngwie,Axel Rudi Pell, Sons of Apollo,WET and a shitload of other high profile acts).Marcel Jacob recruited him, when he was only 19 years old in that band. Specially their albums "Humanimal","Genesis" and "Life",that´s some awesome melodic hard-rock,with insane guitar/bass parts by Fredrik and Marcel Jacob.
I still use two of Fredrik's signature PRS SE's. One has been refinished in surf green and the other was done in a black sparkle burst. Great guitars for the price. Love the Ebony boards.
Fredrik has quickly become my favorite guitarist and number one inspiration! I got his signature PRS and I love it so much that just looking at it inspires me to pick it up and practice!
I like that Rick Beato reference. (Totally agree with a lighter gauge) Recognize hat test they did was based on standard tuning. If you have a really Low tuning you purposely want a heavier gauge string to compensate string tension otherwise your string will be flapping out of control. Lower tuning means lower frequencies so you want a heavier string to get the best sound and tightness from.
I think that the fact that they’re looking for something better than standard convention, means that they would at least take basic convention into account. Especially considering they aren’t idiots
I’m sure most people who watched ricks video, or who understand the idea that light strings sound good, think what you pointed out is super obvious. Numb nuts.
And that's a confirmation why that "Lovelorn Crime" solo has a Pink Floyd vibe to it - one of my favorite tracks from "In Cauda Venenum" but IMO that whole record is a solid 10/10 - only Charlatan and Garroter let you "breathe" and are there more to give dynamic to the major songs around them, so - works for me
He was coming off laryngitis ... they cancelled a few gigs before the Nashville show because of it so he was not looking to talk before the concert. Thanks for watching!
The whole mix was terrible at Houston. HOB has a pretty rough time getting decent mixes, it seems. Fred was nearly inaudible, as were Joakim and Mendez. It was too quiet, too. A shame, because the show itself was fantastic and tight as hell.
I haven't been able to get into any of the stuff they've done since Watershed, but Opeth are still one of my favorite bands. Everything they did from that point backwards was nothing short of stunning.
did not knew about this R Rundown till now, can you believe that? and trust me i do Adore my Scandinavian Metals and Goth Doom Metals also a good badass PRS Guitar

Tristan Wani Those guys have been treated like a boyband for 20 years and they are actually good musicians with interesting gear for a RR. To be honest, we’ve seen worse
Link Sayajin haha yeah I know man, it’s just a weird request as compared to an Opeth rundown. They’ll definitively do one for MCR, don’t worry about it.
He declined and we were a bit rushed to complete this as they had to do soundcheck for both Opeth and Graveyard (with setup) in less than 90 minutes. Crunch time!

This guy just can't wait for the interviewer to get through the intro to show off his PRS lol
Cohaagen90 a PRS will do that to you! I know from first hand experience. They’re glorious!

Right lol. Love me some prs
Love how he brings up Rick Beato haha
My man Rick getting the respect he deserves. Love to see Fredrik and Mikael on Rick's channel sometime haha
Nobody cares.
Oh yeah, that was a cool shoutout
PRICK BEATO HERE WITH MY NEW BEATO BOOK

MetalMadness66 Fredrik and Daniel Mongraine from Voivod are just unbeatable, IMO
26:09 - "I don't care-it's fun". Fred gets it.
damn straight
Huge fan of Fredrik's playing. Seems like such a good dude too. Thanks for doing this.

He's just the shizznit...all of Opeth, however, are the shizznit...
Awesome video! Opeth is an amazing band and it was great seeing Fredrik demoing his sounds. They are really great at recreating the feel of the albums live - it's really impressive.
Couldn't agree more!
I know...how do they sound better than the album live? it's the opposite of most bands

Damn, that is one great interviewer. Prepared and positive.
3:25 A WILD MENDEZ APEARS
"I try to play like Holdsworth, but I can't". What an amazing complement from someone like Freddy. Damn, he is human!!
Yeah....I watched a few minutes of a "chords of A.H." video. Like watching a horror movie for a beginner like me !
Fredrick, absolute gun of a player and such a gentleman.
I still use two of Fredrik's signature PRS SE's. One has been refinished in surf green and the other was done in a black sparkle burst. Great guitars for the price. Love the Ebony boards.
Bill Alexander I bet that black sparkle burst is gorgeous!
Bill Alexander I’d love to see those!
My inner nerd REALLY wants to hear Fred say "grandpa's guitars" just once. That and a few riffs from blackwater park.
Hes a "tones chasers"

😄Your other comment still confuses me. Also i was pointing out that... ahh i don’t care that much to have to explain myself haha.
I like when the artist actually talk to them
Boom Hey You I agree except when they don’t know anything and have to keep calling over to their tech. But yes he knows his own gear!
And that's a confirmation why that "Lovelorn Crime" solo has a Pink Floyd vibe to it - one of my favorite tracks from "In Cauda Venenum" but IMO that whole record is a solid 10/10 - only Charlatan and Garroter let you "breathe" and are there more to give dynamic to the major songs around them, so - works for me
Other than the intro (a little to long imho) all songs are major to me! In my top 3 Opeth albums.
These Synergy rigs sound pretty good.
I just saw them in Denver last week on March 2nd. Awesome show! I love Frederick's playing.
I thought it was Devin Townsend on the thumbnail .
3:25 My God that finish stunning...
Probably my favorite of the bunch. Although I would swap those pup rings for black ones
Agree!
Was at this show. Sounded incredible.
No live shows so now is a perfect time to dive into rig rundowns! Thanks PG!! 🤘😝🤘
You bet!
"You just have to be a bit more djental when you chug it"
Good job guys. Thank you PG!
Our pleasure!
MAN his rig sounds killer. Best tone I've ever heard on Rigrundown!!
Fredrik really seems like a rad dude. I wanna be his friend lol.
I saw them in Indy on the last tour.
They were great and Fredrik is a fantastic player
I've been waiting for this for a looong time.
this is the king of rig rundowns for me....
I have been to both their shows at the Ryman. Great band.
I was at that Ryman show. It snowed/sleeted/rained/hailed/winded right before the show. Sounds and lights were fab.
What tones omg!
A Volante, nice. I had no idea they used that. I hope Mikael still breaks out his Grand Orbiter though, it's one of my favorites.
Amazing guitar player. Excellent video
I would have loved to have seen Opeth at the Ryman! What a classic venue!!!
Best band on earth, head and shoulders. Thank you.
24:42 - should be included as the Diablo 4 soundtrack
That's from the song Deliverance, towards the end.
Cool. awesome guitar and the octaver for ricthie blackmore was funny. Dude can play and knows his classics
This is one ive been waiting for! Love their Synergy rigs! Bummer no Mikael or Mendez.
He was coming off laryngitis ... they cancelled a few gigs before the Nashville show because of it so he was not looking to talk before the concert. Thanks for watching!
the rigs sounds great live. Bass was completely toast in the mix though at the Dallas show.
The whole mix was terrible at Houston. HOB has a pretty rough time getting decent mixes, it seems. Fred was nearly inaudible, as were Joakim and Mendez. It was too quiet, too. A shame, because the show itself was fantastic and tight as hell.
Everyone seems to be complaining about the bass in the mix for Opeth, I don't know what they decided to change, but it's time to change back.
Heh, great view! It`s nice when Fredrik drops picks (especially at shows), because you can take one. I`ve done it once:D
Man we need more les paul style guitars with maple fretboards
I haven't been able to get into any of the stuff they've done since Watershed, but Opeth are still one of my favorite bands. Everything they did from that point backwards was nothing short of stunning.
youre missing out
Dunford00 I've listened to everything post-Watershed and, no, I'm not.
@@A_Final_Hit you most definitely are, and thats not up for debate lol
@@ejRecording Yes, it is.
@@Chaos00013 no it isnt
Good thing Mike wasn’t available. His grandeur and smooth cadence would have melted the minds of all the mere mortals watching.
Man his tones are so sick.
Fredrik needs a GigRig G2. I feel like he would really benefit from it, a super awesome switcher.
“See you couldn’t do that if it were in a rack”... glad to hear he was paying attention, when you hear the bell go to history!
Love Opeth and Fredrik!!
3:28 - Tristam from the Diablo games.
Fredrik mentioning Rick Beato.... hahaha nice we all geek out from the guitar grandpa!
3:26 Mendez and Axe in the background!
Super cool dude Good stuff 👍
did not knew about this R Rundown till now, can you believe that?
and trust me i do Adore my Scandinavian Metals and Goth Doom Metals
also a good badass PRS Guitar
I heard Rick Beato, what makes this song great - Opeth confirmed!
Great interview as usual Chris!
Much appreciated!

Also glad that RUSSIAN CIRCLES was mentioned 🤘
Nice!
I was at this show at the ryman, fantastic performance
Please tell me you guys did Graveyard rig rundown too!!!!
We wanted to, but once they set up, played one song for soundcheck, we literally had 15 minutes before doors. Total bummer!
I wish they'd make a p245 se model...I would snap that right up!!
Intelligent chap. Great guitarist too.
theonlyredspecial love your screen name and icon!
I want that Vai module. +dude can that guy play or what?!
DADFAE is GHOST OF PERDITIONNNNN
STUCK IN HER CHEST
Maybe Frederik could check out DiMarzio’s new noiseless P90’s.
or the Bluesbucker which you can drop into a humbucker spot for the P90 tones without the noise.
How do you not have links to these peddles? They sound wicked af!
Nice Fredrik !
HOLY SHOT THAT TONE
22:59 Need that OCTAVE pedal in my damn DoomMetaller life
too bad they are kinda pricy
Fredrik you’re amazing, a shame Michael wasn’t able to join in.
He was coming off laryngitis ... they cancelled a few gigs before the Nashville show because of it so he was not looking to talk before the concert. Thanks for watching!
Martin Mendez never gets any love
He declined and we were a bit rushed to complete this as they had to do soundcheck for both Opeth and Graveyard (with setup) in less than 90 minutes. Crunch time!
@@premierguitar Totally understandable! Thanks for the response and love the series!
You have to be careful in the presence of Mendez as his heat vision has been known to accidentally kill interviewers
He mentioned rick beato, i saw thay video too debunking the gauge myth
18:53 What song are they talking about?
The lotus eater live at Royal Albert hall
25:40 what is the full name for that pedal?? I can’t find it
