    Re: Quad Cortex vs Live Amps... Jim makes a great point about the signal flow from a live head and cab setup: you're not actually hearing just the amp; it's going through a mixing board back to a wedge/monitor.

    • @zeroman614
      @zeroman614 2 дня назад +9

      exactly why so many presets in digital gear are crap for live use is that people try to dial in a "mastered" tone which then ends up squished down and sanitized after going through the PA rig.

    • @stoneysdead689
      @stoneysdead689 2 дня назад

      That's true no matter what you play though. Digital or analogue, it goes through the PA and your channel strip generally has a full preamp built into it. I've had to finish a show playing direct through the PA before, because the power went down for like 5 seconds and it totaled my UAfx Lion '68. I had to reset to factory defaults and then reload the firmware- which of course couldn't be done right then so- I played direct through the PA. Luckily, I had a cab box on my board, so I was able to use a DF-7 in front of it and it actually sounded pretty good.

    • @nicdee316
      @nicdee316 2 дня назад +1

      Especially on the kind of massive stages they're playing, where outside of using the amp walls of yesteryear there's no way you'll hear, much less feel you amp (and at that point you're destroying whatever the FoH guy is trying to achieve, to the detriment of the whole band).
      And my experience with the QC very much mirrors his: it's the first digital device where I couldn't tell the difference in feel compared to a "real amp" through monitors (the sound has pretty much been there for quite a while now). And it's so convenient and easy to use and sounds so good and consistent on IEMs that there's no real point bothering with a big heavy loud amp and miking it.

    • @user-of9ut1hd9q
      @user-of9ut1hd9q 2 дня назад

      @@zeroman614 Have you ever actually tried a Quad Cortex? Literally the majority of presets you'll find don't include an EQ or tone shaping to get a "mastered" tone. Just amp, cab, an OD, and maybe some time based effects.

    anyway… this video gave me the motivation to get back to creating my first (ever) song on Garage Band. I took a 4 hour break from this video and got a lot done! so thank you Jim, Brad and Andertons for the help!

    Man i’ve recently realised so hard how the guitars we learn on affect our preferences.
    No matter how much money i’ve thrown at guitars, i always come back to the neck profiles and tones I learnt with.
    Chapman made the chapman guitar profiles based on the esp type profiles he learnt on.
    I spent SO much time advancing my learning on a nick johnston in 2020 (player for YEARS before) but coming back to owning one recently, it’s like coming home.

    @41:09 I totally agree that back in the day you had to have the discipline to put in the work. play, rewind, play, rewind... forever. I would come home from school and spend hours learning my favorite licks. I remember when my mom got a CD player and I bought some CDs that it was a game changer to be able to skip not only to each song, but to each part of the song and run it to get the part down. No disrespect to younger players now, many of them can play circles around me, but it was a different process to learn guitar riffs back in the day.
