    Nightwish Army South Germany Division
I deeply regret not having been able to attend this concert and envy all those who were able to experience it.
Seeing the Goddess of the Valkyries and the Queen of Epica together on one stage is truly epic.
You should check out their second performance from the same concert, the song is called "Stabat Mater Dolorosa".
A classic piece sung in the middle of a metal concert - and celebrated by the fans.
And one more thing: Simone was three or four months pregnant at the time.
Epica is the slightly heavier version of Symphonic Metal.
And like Floor, Simone Simons is also from the Netherlands. There must be something special about this country that produces so many outstanding voices.

@@TheWolffAndTheMelody Hello! I hope you're going to do just as many Epica reactions. 🙂 Please bear in mind Epica is the peak of symphonic metal today. They are not something like a little sibling of Nightwish. Both bands play symphonic metal but they both have their own distinct style. Epica will blow your mind, if you keep reacting to them. You can't really get a good picture from just 1-2 songs, you need to react to many of them. Their music is very diverse, ranging from very heavy to more radio-friendly to longer progressive epic masterpieces and even several breathtaking ballads.
If you'd like to react to something super epic, with beautiful melody and also showcasing Simone's gorgeous soprano, backed by an amazing imagery, go for this live performance: EPICA - Unleashed (Live at the AFAS Live). Make sure you find exactly this version, OK? 🙂 It's an older song but here performed in 2023.
Alternatively, if you'd like to hear something a bit heavier, you can try a song written mostly by their drummer:
EPICA - The Essence of Silence (Official Live)
Epica songwriting (and orchestral compositions) are top-notch! Out of 6 Epica members, 4 of them have degree in music, and you can really tell! They don't have any weak album and they don't have boring "filler songs" on their albums. You can pick any of their full 8 studio albums and listen from beginning to the end, and you will enjoy it (as long as this is your style).

This was the Retrospect show marking their 10th anniversary so for the occasion went full orchestra and choir, and recorded for dvd as well was broadcasted . And Simone was 3 months pregnant in this which explains why less agressive windmilling and headbanging. This was a long show and this was 21th song in it out of 23 if i am not wrong. Floor featured in 2 songs with the second one being a classical piece for alto and soprano duet called Stabbat Matter Dolorosa. Epica are considered symphonic metal but most of their songs include harsh vocals and this is one of a select few that don't

One of the things I love about your reactions is the fact that you don`t pause. You get to experience without interruptions and we get an honest reaction. Keep this way!
By the way, since I`ve just watched all your Nightwish reactions (so far) I would like to make a suggestion based on what you have been commenting on Floor.
She is an extremely versatile singer. So much that people used to say she would sound amazing even singing the phone book. Which she was challenged to do at a radio show and she killed it. The video is available on youtube. It`s easy to find. But apart from that, she was part of a Dutch TV show - Beste Zangers - where a group of famous singers are gathered and on each episode one of them is featured and the others sing either their songs or songs that mean something to them. Floor was fairly unknown from the Dutch back then. When she appeared in that show she conquered her own country. You can find her videos easily singing a wide variety of songs from different styles. She does a great job singing in spanish (she doesn`t speak it) and the "owner" of the song is freaking out listening to her. She also kills it with "Shallow" from Lady Gaga and it`s a very emotional interpretation.
She does an amazing cover of "Let it Go" from Frozen and cover of Eurovision winner song "Euphoria".
There`s a whole world of Floor to explore :D

Hi, please continue with Epica. They are generally harder than what you heard in this song, and more proggy as well. But they also have some stunning ballads. You should check out:
    * "Consign to Oblivion", as an example of a hard, proggy Epica song. I recommend the live version from the Zenith in Paris.
    * "Tides of Time", as an example of a ballad they have written. I recommend the studio version, as they never put together a professional live video of it.

Welcome to the Dutch diva's and symphonic metal. Holland has several world famous symhonic bands with female front singers (Within Temptation was also extremely famous)
The guy who shouted at the end: FLOOR JANSEN, he was the guitarplayer in Floor's first band, After Forever. They made beautiful songs too and were doing very good in Europe. Floor was broken when the guys decided to split up.
Floor and Simone (Epica) are best friends, studied classical singing together and were roommates for a while. You can see the affection they have for eachother and their bands.
This was an aniversery, so they got the orchestra on stage. On tour they have the music n backing track. Like Tuomas wrote lots of music for the London symphonic Orchestra (ghost love score , poet and the pendulum and many more) They are a bit too big on stage and touring with an orchestra is not managable hahaha. But Nightwish uses the music from the London Orchestra (that he wrote out for all instruments, insane) also as backing track.
Sir, it's your channel. Pause when you feel you need to, forget names ( I am terrible with names) I just enjoy your face, enjoying the music. It feels almost like I am a proud mother haha.
Thanks again sir!!! (Aeyeron you will love too. Arjan a Dutch muscisian (brilliant) who works with the best of the best artists to create something....special. Floor and Simone are always there but also man many other metal singers and mucisians.

Another fun reaction, Cosmic. As for thoughts on pausing - my biggest concern with not pausing is that the reactor, who is not familiar with the song and doesn't know where to pause or talk, inevitably talks over some of the best, coolest, and most impactful moments of the song, and is often missing the bits that we want to see reacted to the most. I personally would rather have the reactor pause, then take the video back 10 seconds, to restore the flow and to make sure nothing is missed. This is best accomplished by using the space bar to pause and the back arrow to rewind 10 seconds and resume playback. Just my 2 cents.

Fair to say Sancta Terra is not a typical Epica track - though it is a great party on the stage to look at.
Seems to be that in the last 4 or so years, when Ghost Love Score started to be reacted to, that Sancta Terra became a fairly common choice to follow. This isn't the case for anyone who already liked metal - but for a lot of people who don't know metal or don't like it, Ghost Love Score started as something of a gateway drug and Sancta Terra is still accessible to people so it tends to be a common reaction suggestion. Epica does go harder than this and does feature male gutteral almost all the time. Consign to Oblivion tends to follow in the reaction path and that is *way* harder.
Personally? The more people listening to metal, and getting rid of some silly leftover (media created) hysteria about what it is...the better. And the more people listening and getting in to it - the more there is for musicians and bands and that means the greater chance of more music for everyone!

this one can be a good entrance in the wold of Epica, but Epica is deeper and more moving and complete than this one... I suggest "Consign to Oblivion" from Zenith Paris gig. I just can't figure how you could react to it.

I have been really enjoying your posts over the past few weeks--keep it up!
I took a quick look at your playlist and I don't see anything by The Hu. They are a Mongolian band who fuse old school songs and instruments with new melodies and instruments...and then they throw in some throat singing for fun! I suggest you give Wolf Totem a try. It's a good place to start and the more ravenous fans will guide you from there. ruclips.net/video/jM8dCGIm6yc/видео.html&ab_channel=TheHU

I'm not sure what it is but I just don't gel with Epica. I can't quite put my finger on it. They're obviously a very talented band and Simone is an incredible singer, just like Floor. But something about their music doesn't hit the same spot in me that Nightwish's music does. This is a great song though.

For me it's the exact opposite. I love Epica but there are only a few Nightwish songs that I like and most of them are from the Tarja era.
But I really like most of Floor's other work with After Forever and ReVamp or her solo music.

Is it epic? Oh no man, you just haven't seen the really epic stuff from Epica yet. The song “Sancta terra” is a rather mediocre song for this band, this performance is all hyped just because of Floor Jansen. To be honest, a lot of Epica fans are very annoyed by this, because in the 20 years of Epica's existence, they have a lot of really cool songs. And from the song "sancta terra" you almost don't understand what this band is really playing. I strongly advise you to watch the really cool material from Epica, but be careful, it can blow your mind 😁☺️ this band is absolutely incredible :
Epica - Kingdom of heaven part 3 (omega alive show)
Epica - consign to oblivion (live in zenith)
Epica - Design your universe (retrospect live)

@@TheWolffAndTheMelody it's just that when you see one of these three performances, you will understand that it's really epic 😁 Epica is not just ordinary symphonic metal. Their work ranges from soft acoustic songs and lyrical ballads to melodic death metal, sometimes the song starts quietly and acoustically and breaks into death or black metal, in addition, a lot of progressive stuff. Although there are many "radio friendly" songs. But in general, their music is one level harder than Nightwish's work, if you like that, then I'm sure they will impress you 😉

I´ve been told that the Epicans don´t reallylike this song. I don´t know if this is true, but that that leads to the point why i´m writing this. I don´t think that your story in the description qualifys you as an elitist. In my opinion an elitist is someone who says: Oh, don´t listen to THIS album, there are much better albums from this artist. But IF this is true, then I have maybe the answer to the question why metal is much less popular in the Netherlands than in other european countries. Of course things like radioplay and the depiction of metal in the mainstream media plays also into that, but I have the theory, that the Netherlands have even more gatekeepers than for example we here in Germany. And maybe that is part of the Dutch mentality, because when a big part of your country is below sea level, you better keep the gates closed when the tide rises. But regardless, what I wanted to say that this dispute I had still resonates in my mind, and therefore I cannot listen to this song at the moment. I would set me in a bad mood. I have Epica still on my playlist, but in the moment I skip it whenever an Epica song comes up. I hope this feeling diminishes over time because i really liked Epica. Sorry for this long text, but I needed to write it away .
