I don’t understand the hate FF8 gets. I honestly love Squall
i like the whole crew a lot too. its just the game design decision making battles contraproducitive and obsolete. thats the sad part. RPGs without leveling is like a action cutscene walking simulator
You have to make a choice not to break the game, because it was very easy to make your characters OP with the junction system. That said, if you decided to limit your party and not use some of the glaringly OP setups, the story itself was good, just the gameplay got in the way.
Most of my friends say it's the junction system. Personally, I don't hate it. It just limited magic use as you would have you best spells junctioned to your stats. Thus, you couldn't cast them without lowering your stats.
Junction system aside, the story and characters are great. Probably one of my favorite games in the series.
A part that no one's pointed out yet-- He's not Cloud, there's no Sephiroth, and fanboys got pissed. Honestly, I prefer Squall
I honestly feel lucky that I played this first as an 8 year old who didn't know anything about the junction system and just assumed you should level. FF8 took me YEARS to complete back then and the battle with Omega Weapon easily lasted an hour, same for Ultimecia, it was great!
