  • The Dallas Mavericks lost to the Boston Celtics in Game 1 of the 2024 NBA Finals, how did Luka Doncic, Kyrie Irving, Dereck Lively II, Daniel Gafford, PJ Washingon, Derrick Jones Jr, and the Mavs come up short vs Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown, Kristaps Porzingis, and the Celtics?
    Nick Angstadt & Reggie Adetula ‪@1053TheFan‬ discuss how the Dallas Mavericks' stars can be better and what else the Mavs need to do to beat the Boston Celtics. Do you buy that Kyrie Irving just let the crowd get to him in Game 1? Do you believe there’s something to the stat that Kyrie is 0-11 against Boston? Was Luka Doncic’s 1 Assist mostly on Boston’s Defensive Scheme or Mavs missing shots? What’s 1 area Dallas has to be better on offense?

    I swear if there is even 1 second that Gafford or Lively isn't on the court, we lose every time! I called out everyone doubting Gafford... he was probably the only one that did his job in the 14 minutes Kidd played him. 14 minutes.... While Green and Maxi are out there soaking up 40 minutes scoring just 5 points between them... Gaff had 8 points, 3 rebounds, 1 steal and 1 assist in 14 MINUTES AND KIDD SAT HIM OUT.................................................. DJJ, same thing with bad contested failed dunks over and over for just 5 points, WHERE'S GAFF? On the bench wondering what he was traded here for..... Play Gafford 25 minutes, that's all i ask, let him cook and find his groove. Boston got exactly what they wanted every single time. It's really simple, if we can't contain the ball, meaning don't let guys easily blow by, we're getting swept. Our bigs can no longer pack the paint like they did in past series, they made us pay everytime. Why is jrue holiday drawing 3 guys in the paint? Why is jaylen brown easily dribbling past his guy to dunk on us? Tatum made some tough shots with heads in his face we can live with that. Now coaching needs to be a factor, they have guys like Tatum guarding our bigs, they either need to be punished with force lobs or we need to dominate offensive rebounds. a lot of adjustments need to be made. They were prepared for us, we weren't. On offense, we're not moving the ball enough and making it hard on ourselves and easy for their defense to key in, Time to switch it up. Now compared to their offense that soon as they get the ball, they push it and causing our defense to scramble, ultimately leading to an open 3. We played competitive for 3 quarters, but the whole we got ourselves into in the 1st and early second, we couldn't quite recover. Playoffs is a game of adjustments now lets see if we can adjust after seeing their gameplan, we've been able to so far.

    • @jwill5984
      @jwill5984 20 дней назад +2

      It’s primarily the defense. Their defense feeds their offense. When teams score every trip down the floor and the ball is taken out, the opposition’s defense can set itself. The Mavs thrive on turnovers and pushing the pace … If the defense continues to be this poor, the results will be the same on offense

    • @kbthegoat824
      @kbthegoat824 20 дней назад +4

      @@jwill5984 Mavs do not thrive on turnovers and pushing the pace. Not when the ball is in Luka's hands they certainly do not push the pace. But yea, the defense needs to be a lot better, like I said, they need to contain the ball and keep guys in front of them and stop overhelping so much. There is no reason Holiday should be drawing 3 guys at the rim, then Tatum had this one drive with Lively chasing him, who was in good position to contest the layup but 3 guys decided to help unnecessarily, and guess who was open on the 3 point line...Another play, Tatum drives past Luka on half court, a defender switches on him, instead of rotating he decides to go double him on the 3 point line unnecessarily again, leaving another guy for a wide open 3. They need to stay focus and play intelligent defense. We had close to a week to prepare for this team and we come out like we never seen them play before.

      We tried and I wish. But he is mentally shot. He was a huge reason this team had such a great start, and will fully deserve his ring if acquired. With that being said he went from potentially having the best season of his career. To being a black hole. His shooting form is among the best in the league. I have seen him make slight improvements in his game too. Fake the three or go up for a lay in, or even oop. I wish he would do more. But after examining every option, I have come to the conclusion it has to be mental. He went from being a player that would at least have one good game a week. To a player that has one good game a month. Even when I thought he had ‘broken out’ of his slump, he would proceed to lay another stinker. It really sucks because this finals will require contributions from everyone. If he has a hot game and everyone else plays average. We easily take a W. I know it is very late in his career and there is like a 99% chance he never is anything more than a high volume 3 pt shooter. But he has potential to be playmaker and a midrange/driving player.

    I somewhat agree with Nick in that we need another scorer. However, I think what would be crucial here is that we add two playmakers. Not at phg. Hoenstly, i would love a 2 and a 3 that are good scorers but better playmakers and have awesome court vision.
    I give the celtics a lot of credit. They are on a mission. They are not afraid to shake things up. Good example is time lord. He is great and has potential. But is not what the celtics wantedz he was beloved and a great defender. He could not shoot the three. The celtics knew he had that weakness and knew they could get better. Losing for them is not an option here. I think mazzula is an awesome coach and will be elite in a few years. Again, if the celtics felt they could have done better, they would not have been shy about replacing him.
    I think if the celtics lose. They may overreact tbh. They feel they are due and should not just have 1, but a dynasty.

  • @Thomasfrommygirl
    @Thomasfrommygirl 20 дней назад +2

    if I was game planning…😂. It’s all about forcing the Celtics to adjust. I’d let kyrie initiate the offense and play the two man game with Luka closer to the basket a lot more. If they’re going to play him straight up they’re at his mercy on a deep catch where he doesn’t have to dribble the air out of the ball to get to his spots. Instead of hunting switches, give them a piece of their own medicine and punish them if they try to help. The Celtics are great 1 on 1 permitter defenders, but Luka isn’t just a great permitter player on offense. He’s elite at everything but free throws 😂. He can eat with his fade away, footwork and ability to draw fouls. If the Celtics bigs end up having to help it will open up the drop off pass and lobs. Also, with it being a two man game, the other help would have to come off kyrie. I think that scheme also gives Kyrie a little more freedom to attack early and push the pace.
    That, make open shots, stop helping off of shooters and live with them shooting midrange and getting occasional layups

    Now that I've had some time to process...here is my hair brained take.
    JKidd is a secret genius. I think his MO in game 1 is to throw every conceivable lineup out there and see which one works. He has so much data now about which lineups work, that making adjustments in the future is now easier. He's making adjustments before needing to make adjustments. Moving forward, he now has 3-4 lineups that work that he can call on. 70% of the work has now been done, at the expense of a game we're supposed to lose (on paper).
    The Celtics, on the other hand, have played their main lineups 60-70% of the time against lineups that we will no longer use. When we now go into game mode, they will have to make adjustments on the fly.
    JKidd is sacrificing a battle to win the war. This has been his MO in every series so far, evidenced by the blowout losses in clippers and thunder. He did the same thing in the wolves, but we actually ended up winning that game just barely, which was a bonus.
    I believe in JKIDD!

They made a heck of a run in the 3rd to get back into it when they were way behind. All the other stats were neck n neck. If Kyrie just has a good game this would have been a much closer game. We've all seen this already. They won't be as sluggish to start game 2 where I remind you they're 3-0 so relax everybody. Even if they lose game 2 they just need to defend home court to even it up.
