The “Mickey mouse ring” “fraudulent ring” etc. troll did so much damage to nba discourse. Everyone’s gut instinct is to discredit somebody-somehow, some way.
Yep. Every ring has an asterisk*. Champs are champs. There's no room for hypotheticals
If the Mavs or Wolves win I promise you there will be no asterisk.
@@scopezzbro2458wolves? Yeah. But mavs? Idk “clippers trash” “thunder too young” “wolves just proved why Denver’s ring was a fraud” “celtics can’t win anyway they got no dawg”
I guarantee if Jimmy won that year there would be no discourse about the "asterisks" on that ring. People just love hating on greatness, and that turns into hating lebron more often than not

Jayson Tatum averaged 30/10/6 in this series and everyone still acts like he's not playing well.
bro. his shot selection is like Luka's but if Luka shot 3s at Shaq's efficiency. his offense is a huge reason why these games have been so arduous. he gives away possession after possession with his terrible bullshit 3s. he shoots like 60% inside the arc but decides he wants to launch 3s at 25% efficiency.

@@slightexag And despite his rough shooting, HE STILL AVERAGED 30/10/6, what more do you want? And no his offense wasn't a huge reason they've been stressful, if you actually watched, the Pacers throughout stretches of the games made literally whatever they wanted despite excellent contests. You not see how many buzzer beater lucky bounces had? They only started collapsing in the last minutes of the 4th quarters. His shooting is off, yes, but I can count how many times how many shots he back rimmed or had layups simply roll off with like 4 hands, that means he's slightly overshooting. Those are timing issues that can be easily fixed. It's not like he's airballing or completely missing the rim

The last time The Celtics were in the finals, Tatum had a separated shoulder, Smart was exhausted from all of the general injuries he sustained, Rob was working his way back from an MCL injury and Brown had a badly damaged quad. 100%. Both things can absolutely be true. Celtics are a really good team but they also had a cake walk because of all the injured teams they played against lol.
I’m not a fan of the Celtics or Mavs but I just don’t see the Dallas beating Boston in a 7 game series, just no way. Especially if Porzingis is coming back which is looking likely.
"CELTICS TO THE FINALS" no one is surprised given the circumstances and no one cares until they win it all and it's still wouldn't be celebrated as big as other championships, their fans will be the only one would give a F

YESSIR WE HERE!
Usually I find myself agreeing with your takes Kenny but I can't agree with pretending like the ease of path to the finals doesn't matter. Yeah injuries are just part of the postseason but its usually a couple of key role stars or superstars with super high usage burning out later in the brackets (like brunson) which are a coaching issue. Pretending like every team you come up against are missing one or more primary star players and 1st options that some of these teams are literally built around 'doesn't matter' isn't true. The Larry O Brian means so much because of what it represents, beating the best to be the best; so if you don't beat the best whats the point. That's not to say that this is the celtics fault at all but pretending like this is expected cause they're the one seed is dishonest. Theres a reason the nba community hold certain championships on way higher of a pedestal than others, like 2016 or 2011 and others are forgotten or tarnished cause of injuries. To pretend that doesn't make a difference is disrespectful to the nature of the big Larry O imo
I mostly agree, but we have seen situations where the best just don't get there for various reasons. 2007 Mavs, 2009 and 2010 Cavs, Bucks and Clippers in 2020, 2021 Sixers, 2022 Suns, 2023 Bucks. Also, any team that goes through the usual grind of the NBA (training camp, pre-season, regular season, media, personnel changes, injuries, postseason, etc.) and can go all the way to winning the championship should get their credit regardless of who they beat or how they got there. Only 2 teams reach the Finals every year, and only one can win it all. What if the Celtics were to win it all this year? That would probably make up for all the lackluster run they've had.
For some reason I just don’t fully trust The Celtics they scare me sometimes especially in the fourth quarter still a great team but they scare me sometimes.
They beat a bunch of injured teams but you have to play whoever is in front of you
they’re injured too. and they are just an amazing team overall
There it is!
This Celtics team better not blow this opportunity. I'm far from a Celtics fan but if they lose in the finals it's time they try something different.
Kenny got on gallery department???
Finally a rational take from a prominent media member about this Celtics team!!

When talking about the Celtics injury luck and potential finals matchup, too many people just seem to forget the fact that they've been missing Kristaps Porzingis for the last two series! KP was the one who made them so ridiculously dominant in the regular season. Without him they're still a great team sure, but they're basically the '23 Celtics just with Jrue Holiday instead of Marcus Smart and Malcolm Brogdon. KP coming back for the finals changes the entire scenario.
but there's a difference between random injuries to #1 options like jimmy butler, donovan mitchell, tyrese haliburton, dame, giannis, and jalen brunson who are pretty healthy vs relying on a third option who is physically unable to stay healthy like porzingis. nobody gave the clippers or sixers any slack for kawhi and embiid being injured because they're so injury prone so it's viewed as you take that with having a player like that. (you can make arguments for jimmy and tyrese haliburton as being injury prone but still not to the same degree as kp)
Yeah, and missing KP has really been showing up in their pick and roll defense. I love Horford, but he's old as the hills. There's a reason every guard they've faces since the KP injury has lit them up. His absence matters.
well kristaps is like the 5th most important player on the celtics

The Celtics can't win in the eyes of the media. We've heard all year about how terrible they are in the clutch. They win three clutch playoff games in a single series and everyone is like "They should have won by more."
And by the way, the narrative that they aren't clutch isn't even true. Their record in the clutch was great this year.
Most of the media are lakers fans or biased, what would you expect, they let the rivalry go out in ther takes.
But they should have won by more though...I don't hate the Celtics but seeing them spam contested mid ranges and threes all game just for them to get serious the last 5 min shows how mentally fragile this team can be at times...not always...but against a team like the Mavericks, they can't afford to switch off
Celtics been getting their pp sucked by the media all year lol even had them tryna get white in the all star game

3 of the games genuinely could have gone either way. Great run by Indiana. Such a fun team to watch. Rebuilt the right way, stole Hali off of the Kings. Happy to see Myles actually getting to play some meaningful basketball as well, glad they didn't trade him the past couple years. Young team that should learn from this and be better next year. Great series even though it was a sweep. Boston just had the experience and cool to finish the games. My Celtics finally seem like they took their opponents serious from the get go for once. Hopefully Boston can cap it off. Banner number 18, here we come.
I heard this fact when watching game 4, the Celtics won 3 straight games despite the pacers having a 50% or better shooting percentage which is the first time in playoff history that has happened. So it’s not like the pacers played bad, they know how to fight and in my opinion they where the toughest team we’ve gone up against. They just couldn’t get points or stops when it mattered the most.

THANK YOU for bringing up how a lot of the teams in the East are on the upswing, I am expecting good things from the conference within ~3 years from now
The East was the better conference in 21-22 and 22-23. This year there were injuries plus the dismantling of the Nets last season. I can see the East being the better conference again by next year.
The East is gonna be amazing next year, not just 3 years from now. Healthy Embiid, full offseason for the Bucks to gel, Knicks getting fully healthy plus a full season with OG, Cavs are coming in healthy, Miami is coming in healthy, and the Pacers and Magic are on the come up.
Injuries really watered down the East this year.

If the Celtics win this ring, full credit to them, Tatum was not great early in the playoffs and now he looks like a true 1A superstar. Easiest road to the Finals of all time? Every one of their series was over before it started. Dem boys better get ready for their first real test for the ring...
Thank you Kenny for being a voice of reason. There are no asterisks on the finals trophy unless you cheat or do something of that sort. If the Celtics get it done, they will be remembered as a historically dominant team the likes of which the leauge has not seen since the 2016 GSW. 🍀 🍀 🍀
Winning close games is what shows how good a team really is, anyone can win when all the shots are falling, it’s the teams that win when things don’t go right that are truly impressive.
Half these dudes would play through these 'injuries' if they had a chance against the C's. They just arent risking their star players in a series theyre never going to win
I get so tired of the dumb argument of "easiest route to the finals of all time" like no shit, they are a number 1 seed. Thats literally the point of seeding. Its so annoying, like yes they got lucky with some injuries but we just going to discredit them absolutely smacking everyone in the regular season?
It’s basically a guaranteed championship at least. 🎉🎉🎉

I think it’s just because Brown got that 40 burger.
brown was way more important to this series than tatum.
Both players were extremely important to the result, JB had some of the most pivotal individual plays in the entire series which gives him the edge in my eyes. Huge steal to prevent Pacers from dribbling out the clock, clutch 3pt to force overtime, 40pt game where he dominated when Tatum wasn't shooting well to start. The game is not only about stats, it's about doing what it takes to end victorious when the buzzer goes off

Pacers have so much depth id hope we make a move for another solid wing
Since you mentioned it its funny how people really thought the bucks could compete with this celtics team. No perimeter defense at all and a declining core.
I have to see how they perform against the Mavs. Heat- no Jimmy, Cavs- Dmitch missed games and no Jarret Allen, Pacers- T. Hali missed games and no Ben Matherien
Did you even get watch the playoffs?
I don't get the whole "you do well in the regular season to have an easy path take" when it's not like they're getting easy teams because they're the 1 seed they're getting easy teams because the other team's star player is getting hurt. Nuggets last year is an example of being rewarded for having the 1st seed Celtics this year are just getting blessed by with luck lol
but in the playoffs, the 1 seed always has the “easiest” path in theory. it’s a reward for being the best team. it just happens that some players get injured which helps them win the series.

Congrats to the Cs, they’ve beat down everyone in front of them, but good lord is this not easily the least difficult path to the finals in NBA history? I don’t think there’s a single finals team since the merger that wouldn’t have made the finals against this competition. Makes me jealous. The Bucks in 2021 (my team) had injury help absolutely, but they also had their best player get hurt and had to go through a healthy Jimmy, Durant, and Trae before the finals. This team had 2-3 games of Mitchell as its only superstar opponent. Again not saying the Cs don’t deserve this, they do, just jealous for teams across NBA history for whom this chance would mean so much more.
Bucks had by far an easier and less impressive run. The heat were not as good of a team back then as they are now. The nets had both kyrie and harden injured and still managed to push the bucks to 7. The hawks were a joke of a team with Trae but then he got hurt and they really could do nothing. The Bucks also managed to stay almost completely healthy except for Giannis missing 2 games meanwhile the Celtics have been missing their 3rd best player for 12/14 of their games
C’s had no pingus for most of their run. Also, let’s not forget the 1984 Lakers or 2013 Heat
Me: Right now, the Mavericks are the only team that can stop this scary Celtics team. Mavs in 6.
Mr. Krabs: You’re darn right! Your Cleveland Cavaliers were on the verge of being the only team to stop this Celtics in their tracks after they stole Game 2 on the road!
BUT THEN YOUR OLDER BROTHER GEORGE DECIDED TO DELIBERATELY DISOBEY ME BY COMING TO NIU TO PICK YOU UP AFTER I TOLD HIM NOT TO!! AND THEN ONCE YOU ARRIVED HOME, HE HAD TO BREAK YOUR ALMOST $300 FLAT SCREEN TV!! EVER SINCE, THE CELTICS STILL HAVE YET TO LOSE A SINGLE PLAYOFF GAME STARTING WITH GAME 3 IN CLEVELAND!! AND YES, YOUR OLDER BROTHER IS THE ONE WHO RUINED YOUR CAVALIERS THE WHOLE TIME BECAUSE DURING THE ALL-STAR BREAK, HE HAD TO CALL YOU TO TELL YOU THAT YOU ARE GONNA LEARN HOW TO DRIVE THIS SUMMER WHEN YOU ARE CLEARLY NOT READY TO LEARN HOW TO DRIVE YET, SO HE BETTER NOT DARE TEACH YOU TO DRIVE OR I WILL BURN HIM IN HOT LAVA FOR REAL!!
Pacers were just mid. The East looked very weak.thisyear. Just hope it is fdifferent nextyear.
Both Boston and Indiana were in no-win situations from the moment the playoffs started. Both teams are being knocked for beating injured teams, but they would've been knocked even more for LOSING to any of those injured teams. Not to mention that neither team faced any BAD opponents, just INJURED opponents. They both faced teams who won 46‐50 games (the Knicks being the only 50-win team of that bunch), and those teams could've won more games than they did if certain things had panned out for them during the regular season. It's not like the Celtics were not expected to reach the Finals anyway, nor was it guaranteed that the Bucks would have dominated the Pacers the way many people thought.
You can put an asterik on literally every single championship in history. Injuries, asteriks, hypotheticals -- they all don't matter at all. It's like the guy at planet fitness who says he coulda shoulda woulda gone D1 but he got injured or his coach didn't like him. Cool dude, I could've been a billionaire if I got really really lucky.
What matters is what actually happened. Hypotheticals are irrelevant -- that's why we play the games. Jokic said it best "Well if they won, they are the better team."
This team won 64 games and went 12-2 in the Eastern Conference. Not the Celtics fault everyone else folded. Maybe they should've won 64 games and had one of the most stacked teams ever.
Also, if we are going to do this whole asterik thing, didn't the same thing happen to the Bucks a few years ago? I don't see any of you guys crying that that ring was phony.
I got every playoffs prediction right so far but two flukes. I picked Bucks instead of Pacers and Celtics as a ECF winner, and on the other hand picked LAC as a WCF winner instead of Dallas. Both teams had similar 1st round series and played against no healthy LAC and Bucks teams, and seems to replace my picks after 1rst round. In the end I picked LAC to win the chip, so congrats Dallas I guess? :P
All jokes aside, best wishes to both contenders, let's have an interesting finals to watch.
If they don’t win it all, then all of this was meaningless.
It’s just not as impressive as it could have been. The Celtics themselves would prefer it. The reason people didn’t talk much about the Celtics during the season is because foregone conclusions are boring.
Could we get a episode about the Lakers front office? Cause Rob is all talk now. We knew he wasn't trading for Myles. As a bron fan watching Kobe win. All Lakers fans said we get superstars etc. What superstar has Laker s really got. Bron was already coming for magic then he left. Bron got Ad here. What stars are the Lakers gonna get him n ad. Looks like they don't have the clout or relationships around the NBA.
Celtics are as battle tested as anyone, they’ve been building this for almost a decade , battles with the Heat, Philly, the Bucks, the KD Nets, and the Warriors, along with an NBA champion in Jrue. People act like they’ve never faced adversity like this is their first year running and the Mavericks dominate them in all the intangibles. Even the way they won this Pacers series is something to at least acknowledge for their late game heroics.
