@@fathertoad9571 People act like Randle’s genuinely an awful player. Yes he’s been a playoff dropper, but he’s still really good at attacking the rim, rebounding, and playmaking. He took less ill advised shots last season as well compared to previous years where he would be spamming his patented step back jumper and instead attacked the rim more and got to the line
The new CBA rules are crippling to teams over the cap. Cant resign certain players. Lose draft picks. Can't trade multiple players for one, etc. They did that because there were teams who would say "I dont care about the tax implications, we gonna run it back." The Timberwolves wisely realized KAT's supermax contract for the next 4 years was not worth it to them, and they brought back value while getting off his contract. For example, look at Zach LaVine. The Bulls are begging to trade him & can't. Having a player not worth his contract is extremely detrimental under the new CBA. If the Twolves want to keep Randle, they can extend him in combination with Donte's contract and still pay them both less combined than what you would have to pay KAT for the next 4 years. Would you rather have a 15.5 ppg 40% 3pt shooter and a 23.3ppg/9.9rpg (over the last 4 years) PF on your team, orrrrr KAT & a vet minimum player? You have to be smart about building your roster now. Look at the Suns for example, they have 150mil in cap space with 3 players. They have another 33 mil in Allen & Nurkic. The rest of the team is basically vet mins. They will never win a chip with that team. No depth & a single injury derails their playoff run (if they get there.)

13:33 That’s why as a Knicks fan I was disappointed that we didn’t prioritize health this offseason. The big problem with last year was that Mitchell Robinson, OG Anunoby, and Julius Randle missed big parts of the season. OG Anunoby came IN with an elbow injury that plagued him throughout the season. Mitchell Robinson has ALWAYS been injury prone. Randle was pretty healthy other than his shoulder last year and the ankle problem he had a couple years ago. In fact, he’s had at least one 82-game season with us. I don’t know the exact number of seasons he’s had with that amount of availability, but it’s considerable. I think when we acquired OG we were thinking “yeah, he’s been a bit injury prone during his career, but he’s an ELITE perimeter defender and those guys don’t come around often.” And we didn’t have Mikal at that time, so we just dealt with his availability issues. But I hate he’s on such a huge contract, because it’ll be really hard to flip him if every other team looks at him the way I do now. I would’ve rather we kept Hartenstein than resigned OG, but if we let OG walk, then management would’ve admitted they traded Barrett and Quickley for nothing. I don’t think the OG trade is as good as people think it is. With Robinson, I know we’re trying to shop him. That’s the thing about rim-protecting bigmen: they’re not as valuable as elite perimeter-defenders. Robinson has had injury-plagued seasons all throughout his tenure with us. The problem is, I don’t know what team would trade for Robinson AND give us a bigman back. Because we still need Robinson, we can’t just have KAT as our only quality center. That, and we’d have to attach a pick to likely get rid of him. I don’t hold them as accountable for Robinson as I do for Anunoby.
I love that Kenny can be optimistic but also realistic and also he is critical while being salacious or trying to clip farm. He really is one of the best in the business.
I just don't get why the Knicks gave up so much in both trades. 7 1sts for Mikal Bridges? There's no way I can be convinced you needed more than 4. Now they traded Dante AND Randle AND AND AND a Pistons 1st for KAT? Idk, they must clearly know for a fact they don't know a damn thing about scouting because they sent 8 picks and 2 starters for 2 players.
That Pistons 1st is lotto protected next year, top 11 protected in 2026 and top 9 protected in 2027. If it doesn’t convey by then it becomes two 2nd round picks.
This trade reminds me of the Caruso-Giddey trade in the way that I feel like the negotiations went like this: “Hey we’d like to offer you x and y for z, how’s that sound?” “Yes. You have yourself a deal” “Seriously? You aren’t gonna try and… ok sounds good I’ll send it into the league offices and make it official”
I don’t know about this for either team. But I do like it better for the wolves for sure. The Knicks are so screwed going forward. If they have one injury it’s over. OG is lucky to play 60 games a year. The depth is mostly gone, if there’s one injury your in big trouble
I do actually like this for the Timberwolves. Obviously financially, but ant and Randle have that same dawg mentality. Not to mention the Randle disrespect is only going to give him fuel to have a great year this year. I believe if ant can be the best player in every series they have enough pieces to help him bring it home
For the cap question As of right now the Knicks are clear of the projected 2nd apron for next season. And are 900k under for this year. They need to fill out their roster for this year (2 spots) but can go under the apron at any time throughout the year. So it’s possible for them to not have second apron implications until 26-27 when Robinson and bridges are due for extensions. Then at that point they are okay to enter the second apron for one year before they face the super harsh second apron restrictions.
Exactly! Finally a good take on the trade. This was a proactive move. Still a lot of risk involved with Randle health but Tim got in front of the impending decision. All chances we regress at the start of the year but Wolves have set ourselves up to make moves which we couldn’t do with our financial situation.
The thing I like most is the flexibility this gives the Wolves. With Dillingham, Donte, Shannon, and Reid on the bench, you can go double bigs, double offensive bigs, small with Randle at center, they can do a lot now and I like that
One thing KAT lack is HEART + Toughness you can’t teach that and that’s what Julius Randle brings! Also he can initiate the offense and Can create his own shot the guy average 5.5 assist. Him and Ant about to crush teams
I also think that in the playoffs Julius and KAT are not too different offensively. There’s a good chance either will disappear in the playoffs but at least Julius will lock in on defense if he’s not scoring. Both are good for a 5/16 shooting playoff game
The second apron is already a disaster for the NBA. It was put in place with the intention of helping small market teams like Minnesota. Instead it just forced Minnesota to get worse.
Not really they just don’t want to spend to have a good team lmao. Tiny market Pacers are willing to spend, if ur point was right they would’ve traded TJ or Obi
@@BigPercNowitzkithis is objectively false. The Wolves are still spending the 2nd most of any team this year and it’s confirmed that ownership said nothing to the front office. This was purely a basketball move on their side. They don’t believe in KAT plain and simple.
My man, running that horns hi-low you showed on the Randle highlight is literally the default set for the wolves last year 😂😂 none of those hi lows work for us though because Rudy can’t CATCH A DAMN BALL
6:56 I think when we talk about spacing we’re looking at it from ants perspective he had already said something about the spacing last season and he’s someone you want barreling his way to the rim
Kenny. They were just the 2 SEED. They just made the CONFERENCE FINALS. Sure it wasn’t game 7. But come on man. We know this is a dumb trade. No hate to Randle or double D. But you don’t get a roster to the 2ND SEED in the WEST then trade your 2nd BEST player to downgrade.
I think they wanna compete for the next half decade with Ant's prime coming up. So they wanna not go all in on next year, feel out the west and see if Denver, Suns and Mavs are still competitors or wether OKC and Memphis become the teams to beat in the west
what i don't like about the wolves there basically the mitchell gobert utah jazz and edwards isn't even on mitchell's level yet regular season wins it might work but post season nah now denver has an easier path in the west cause they were built to stop the nuggets
this is the first trade where I ever could say it was a loss for both sides. The Knicks were thriving last year considering how far they made it. and trading some of their bigger players for other players before any of them have played a game is not great. The Wolves were really good last year with the KAT and Gobert duo. But a Julius Randle and Rudy Gobert front court is way worse.
Right, knicks could've waited to mid season to do Kat trade if they did not like the fit but did it like they were desprate witch is weird. I don't even believe the donte was unhappy narrative because donte is never gonna start on any contending team as a starter and he knows that and its just some excuse to help move Randle who wanted an extension that the Knicks could not afford to pay him so they traded him because they are not a loyal organization
@@yonizaslavsky4246 wolves didn't trade Kat for depth, they trade him because of the new CBA ,they can't keep him so they need to dump his salary and KAT plays the 4,he is not a center

I think a lot of people, even NOTB are undervaluing what Julius Randle is capable of. I know he's not been a playoff performer, but he's a damn good basketball player and I think he is at the point in his career where he just wants to win. I could see this Minnesota team picking up right where they left off. They got deeper, lost some high end talent (but they have Ant so...), and Randle doesn't have to be the number one option EVER. With Naz coming off the bench still, I see no reason why this team can't win 55+ this year and make a run. Of course, Knicks get the best player in the trade and have plenty of depth, I think this only makes them better unless they catch the injury bug again this year.
@@carlburton3152 I'm genuinely curious what makes you think he is better than Kat. Not trying to hate at all, just want to know if you have an explanation.
Yo Kenny. Is the team on your next video already been decided? If not, it’d be nice if you made a segment right at the end of the video, where you spin the wheel for the next team so we can have something to look forward to on your next video. Cheers!
Grade of trade on a scale of 1 to 10. With 5 being neutral. Knicks- 4.5 Wolves- 6 Knicks lost depth and are locked into this core roster now. But gained some differing floor spacing. Wolves gained roster depth, more financial flexibility and more ball handlers/creators to help Ant.
Kenny, you made an interesting point saying Tim Connelly bet on himself in this trade by increasing future roster flexibility. Connelly is a smart person. That's what sharp people do: they bet on themselves that they will be able to figure things out even though the answer may not be clear immediately.
24 hours later and I’m STILL wondering what tf the wolves were thinking. How you have the best run in franchise history and trade your second best player
I kind of agree with you, but to play devils advocate: They had a full run last year + all healthy and lost to the Mavericks, They have DPOY so more offense works in their system, you guys become much deeper too, also frees up cap space for future moves if this year doesn't work out. I believe that this is an intermediary move to make a much larger move sometime next year.
Bro must not know MN ownership at all, to say this wasn't to save money flies against the entire history of the franchise. They were literally fined and had draft picks taken from them for trying to save money during the KGs day, and Glen Taylor is still in charge. This makes them undeniably worse next year.
I would imagine that over the next season or 2 Ant will transition to playing at PG, similar to devin booker/tyrese maxey recently, because of how ball dominant he is anyway and because he showed decent playmaking vision in the playoffs last season. I could see Ant at the 1 and Divincenzo at the 2 being a requent lineup sooner rather than later

“randle next to gobert won’t work”😖😣 if randle could flourish along side mitch then fa damn sho can coexist beside gobert💯
Yes averaging 12 minutes a game with mitch meanw he can play 30 minutes with Rudy 😂😂😂
It wasnt 7. Lol. Not even close.
That Pistons 1st is lotto protected next year, top 11 protected in 2026 and top 9 protected in 2027. If it doesn’t convey by then it becomes two 2nd round picks.
This trade reminds me of the Caruso-Giddey trade in the way that I feel like the negotiations went like this:
“Hey we’d like to offer you x and y for z, how’s that sound?”
“Yes. You have yourself a deal”
“Seriously? You aren’t gonna try and… ok sounds good I’ll send it into the league offices and make it official”
I’ve heard stuff about Ant not liking KAT and Donte not wanting to be a bench player.
And Randel kinda Needed to be traded soooooo.
I don’t know about this for either team. But I do like it better for the wolves for sure.
The Knicks are so screwed going forward. If they have one injury it’s over. OG is lucky to play 60 games a year. The depth is mostly gone, if there’s one injury your in big trouble
Bridges, Heart, Brunson, OG, Bogdan, Deuce, Cam Payne, KAT is pretty decent depth. One injury they just go to the next man up
I do actually like this for the Timberwolves. Obviously financially, but ant and Randle have that same dawg mentality. Not to mention the Randle disrespect is only going to give him fuel to have a great year this year. I believe if ant can be the best player in every series they have enough pieces to help him bring it home
😂
Randle a very good player .
it’ll give randle fuel to turn tge ball over, just a trainwreck to see just like westbrook and embiid
For the cap question
As of right now the Knicks are clear of the projected 2nd apron for next season. And are 900k under for this year. They need to fill out their roster for this year (2 spots) but can go under the apron at any time throughout the year. So it’s possible for them to not have second apron implications until 26-27 when Robinson and bridges are due for extensions. Then at that point they are okay to enter the second apron for one year before they face the super harsh second apron restrictions.
this will be better for the timberwolves watch
Yep!
@@BigPercNowitzkinot quite... The Wolves made the Rudy trade right before the CBA changes so they had no idea this was coming.
@@BigPercNowitzkithis is objectively false. The Wolves are still spending the 2nd most of any team this year and it’s confirmed that ownership said nothing to the front office. This was purely a basketball move on their side. They don’t believe in KAT plain and simple.
Thx for showing me the high low now i can make bball content again without being pissed at the nbas shitty stats website
Who gets more minutes: Julius or Naz?
The edits is so smooth, appreciated it!
My man, running that horns hi-low you showed on the Randle highlight is literally the default set for the wolves last year 😂😂 none of those hi lows work for us though because Rudy can’t CATCH A DAMN BALL
Get this man some hair spray
I forget they had naz Reid who can fill the pick and pop roll towns had.
When’s the next bogey Beecham vid🙏🏾
6:56 I think when we talk about spacing we’re looking at it from ants perspective he had already said something about the spacing last season and he’s someone you want barreling his way to the rim
Kenny. They were just the 2 SEED. They just made the CONFERENCE FINALS. Sure it wasn’t game 7. But come on man. We know this is a dumb trade. No hate to Randle or double D. But you don’t get a roster to the 2ND SEED in the WEST then trade your 2nd BEST player to downgrade.
Memphis Whole Team Was Hurt Prolly Wouldnt Have Made It That Far Fr
@@SteezeFilms sure but probably turned to definitely
Ownership wants to save a bit of money, it’s not complicated at all, pretty obvious why Minnesota is doing this
And against the mavs they once again lost a big series and Kat was mia. Buhbye
I think they wanna compete for the next half decade with Ant's prime coming up. So they wanna not go all in on next year, feel out the west and see if Denver, Suns and Mavs are still competitors or wether OKC and Memphis become the teams to beat in the west
what i don't like about the wolves
there basically the mitchell gobert utah jazz
and edwards isn't even on mitchell's level yet
regular season wins it might work but post season nah
now denver has an easier path in the west cause they were built to stop the nuggets
Denver does not have an easier path. Are you forgetting about the other teams they will have to potentially go through?
Lol those utah teams are no where near the level this twolves team is on. Twolves have depth and are a defensive powerhouse unlike those Utah teams
Knicks got fleeced...
Yep!
He didnt know he was on the trade block? Ive been hearing his name linked in talks with the knicks on and off all summer
we? we? we? you a wolves fan?
I've searching for a video for 2 days trying to find someone that actually has a good take on the situation and i finally found it lol
this is the first trade where I ever could say it was a loss for both sides. The Knicks were thriving last year considering how far they made it. and trading some of their bigger players for other players before any of them have played a game is not great. The Wolves were really good last year with the KAT and Gobert duo. But a Julius Randle and Rudy Gobert front court is way worse.
Knicks can be basically a 3rd seed.
Disagree when you look at positional depth. Knicks needed a star center to play small ball wolves needed shooting depth
@@yonizaslavsky4246 wolves didn't trade Kat for depth, they trade him because of the new CBA ,they can't keep him so they need to dump his salary and KAT plays the 4,he is not a center
@@yonizaslavsky4246 yeah they also needed to free up cap space which they could've done by trading Rudy. And they arguably made their shooting depth worse my getting rid of KAT.
Fantastic trade for the wolves
I don’t like it still Kat don’t rebound more then Josh hart and kat been needed to get traded but now wasn’t that moment an why trade Donte an Randle lost his place once Brunson had a great season plus injuries played a role Mitchell Robinson probably next
This reads like a manic episode...

Hey kenny where is the Drose video
He talked about it on the pod.
@@Mrdonjuliothewicked do you have a link for it? I’m sorry again it’s just Kenny you have so many channels is hard to keep up lol

Julius is a better player than kat but good piont
@@carlburton3152 I'm genuinely curious what makes you think he is better than Kat. Not trying to hate at all, just want to know if you have an explanation.
wtf was louisville doing?
Go Irish!
Yo Kenny. Is the team on your next video already been decided? If not, it’d be nice if you made a segment right at the end of the video, where you spin the wheel for the next team so we can have something to look forward to on your next video. Cheers!
Grade of trade on a scale of 1 to 10. With 5 being neutral.
Knicks- 4.5
Wolves- 6
Knicks lost depth and are locked into this core roster now.
RIP Nova boys
The big ragu wanted out. He wanted more minutes. 20 here but starter over there.
Early in his career I met KAT and he wished my mom a happy mothers day. He is a good guy. Gonna miss him in MN
24 hours later and I’m STILL wondering what tf the wolves were thinking. How you have the best run in franchise history and trade your second best player
Rudy is the 2nd most important player on the wolves and this is coming from the biggest town fan in the world
I kind of agree with you, but to play devils advocate: They had a full run last year + all healthy and lost to the Mavericks, They have DPOY so more offense works in their system, you guys become much deeper too, also frees up cap space for future moves if this year doesn't work out. I believe that this is an intermediary move to make a much larger move sometime next year.
Wolves won that trade.
Or, at least, the Knicks lost.
salary cuts are the most celebrated priority of NBA fans. Everyone in Minnesota is thrilled that the owner dodged the luxury tax.
They didn't. Still way over the luxury tax and still a 2nd apron team with thr 2nd highest team salary in the league after this trade. Clown.
I watched this again and it still hits!
hey kenny i know this might be an odd question but where did you get the shelf things that the basketballs & bearbricks are on?
Knicks fans think Kat’s zesty fouling self will get them a chip😂😂😂
Yo pfp screams zest 😂
@@scottenglund1486 now that u mention it👀
I like this less for the Knicks than I do for the Wolves.
The big ragu is a bench player. Also, he's got a ring already.
Pretty smart way of thinking. We need more of this
Bro must not know MN ownership at all, to say this wasn't to save money flies against the entire history of the franchise.
I dont know if i can agree Julius Randle is a good NBA player
Exactly ,very good he over 20 point a game and ten.
he’s definitely 1 of the worst starters. he’ll be out of the league in 3 years if he doesn’t come off the bench
@@carlburton3152and? he's clogging the paint with Rudy, The space got worse in Minnesota lol
