JB has been very impressive throughout the playoffs. He has been playing consistently very well offensively and defensively. He definitely deserves the ECF MVP. The first game against the Mavs was a toss-up between JB & KP. KP was the MVP in the 1st half and JB in the 2nd half. Tatum has been very efficient on the offensive end of the court with his rebounding and playmaking along with his strong defensive play. Tatum is not forcing any shots up as in prior years. He trusts his teammates more and it shows with the team's overall efficiency. Overall, the Celtics' superior talent will make him a favorite to win the chip in 5 or 6 games. The Mavs might take 1 or 2 games because Luka and Kyrie might have one of those dominant offensive outputs. The Celtics A-game vs the Mavs' A-game will always favor the Celtics in a 7 games series. I find it humorous when the Mavs' fans and so called experts' predict the Mavs in 5 or 6 games. The numbers and overall eye test does not support that. Boston with Banner 18 coming soon.

Great points guys. Celts literally continued the dominance of the Mavs from the regular season. They ran a bunch of the same plays, and same defense. No one taking about lack of prep and failure of JKidd in game 1.
I think the Mavs played and fought hard, but the Celtics as a whole was too much to handle. I could be wrong, but I think JB and the Celtics know game two is a must win. Especially, if they want to win this series. I expect them to come out, like it's game seven of the NBA finals.

You convinced me(and listening to Mazzulla and team interviews) that this is the case "don't look at the score, win the margins and follow the game plan".
That experience at the Garden last night had me so amped up I could not fall asleep once I got home. But man I didn't care! It's going to be hard to match last night's intensity and near perfection (other than the 3rd and FTs) but I feel like Boston is going to take care of home court. To quote Jaylen; "we're not taking no mess.." Joe's game plan was on point and he really had the Mavs overwhelmed and on their heels. Realistically, if a few of JT''s missed shots fell, you have a wire-to-wire blowout. Anyway looking forward to Sunday and I hope the Celts bring the same energy. Two mistakes were made in the coverage of the Celtics this year.
1. Mainstream media made the mistake of putting teams in the west on the same level of the Celtics
2. People mistaken the east being weak for the Celtics being weak

I am curious if it’s close in the end to see if the Celtics have a final seconds answer to Luka’s amazing crunch time production in tight games. Great point about the tip off first play when Kyrie poked the ball loose from Jalen and he dove for the ball. Where is Kyrie? Didn’t that set the tone on how the Celtics were playing versus the Mavericks I think. John, can you in a future podcast expand on the Jaylen Brown first year lightningversus being so controlled in the finals as one of the more impressive things you’ve seen in the NBA during your career?

It's just game 1 so we will not overreact however we can definitely remain confident. The only chance the Mavericks have in my in my opinion is to muck up the game like lively tried to do in the 3rd but of course we saw what happened there. Ended up with 5 fouls in the 3rd alone. But even that won't be enough. We'd have to help them out by being stagnant and lazy. I have to much trust in this team to think they're let that happen. ##goceltics

The funny part about you two mentioning what the Mavs need to do or not do to win beforehand. The Mavs KNEW all this before the game. They already made their adjustments and it failed miserably.

Up:
1. KP. just a monster return. I expected him to look good but not this good. He won that game. Game ball for him. And dallas looked like they didnt prep for regular season KP. his rim protection shows you why gobert is an overrated fraud of a DPOY.
2. JB. d.white-ian defensive game. 6 stocks is insane. Played under control and dare i say we saw shades of marcus smart hustling for loose balls? set the tone with his ball pressure on luka and provided multiple highlights of the night. Oh and the mavs didnt update their scouting report. Still forcing him to go left. LOL.
3. Joe Mazzula. Well executed gameplan. Defensive coverages. What type of 3s to give up to DJJ and PJ. playing KP off the bench. Trusting sam to defend luka and ky. Calling a timeout to stop the 3Q run. And most will say hes a bad coach and kidd will coach circles around him or that he only wins because of talent. Give this man their flowers.
Down:
1. JT-jt was careless with the ball in the end of the 2Q. those were unforced TOVs. He relaxed and played like we're up. I'd love to see renewed focus from him and not to relax until we're up 40-50. There has to be discipline to push this lead to 40-50, especially with G2 coming.
2. PP-he brought the effort like he usually does but he couldnt hit anything. A couple were bad shots (deep 3s when there's time for him to blowby ky for a middy). Just need to get back to practice and realize hes allowed to take middys. Kidd is hiding luka and ky on him. He has to make them work and make them pay.
3. Joe. Yup hes here too. Waited until 8 before calling that timeout. He shouldve called it when the 29 point lead went down to 15. He has to be quicker on the trigger for reminders/adjustments. I also didnt like the he didnt put in his bench until 3m left and kidd already pulled luka and ky with 5m left. Theres no need to risk our starters for 2m. I'm sure pp, sam, luke, brissy and svj can handle the mavs bench for 2m.
Anyway excellent g1 win and for the love of god replicate that 1Q in g2. Have to kill that narrative about us and g2s. Take care of business and beat the mavs! Lets go Cs!

I’m going to comment on your third quarter question before I even watch…..
This was normal Boston BS. They get a lead, get bored, play lazy, and get scored on. Then they realize what they did and decide it’s time to “try” again and bam! They run the score up. It’s a terrible habit but they have done it quite a bit this year. They are so good so it normally doesn’t bite them in the ass. I would like them to stop for 3 more wins so we can get this banner. Then they can address their bad habits in the off-season 🤣 But really, if this team plays with intensity for even 5 minutes they almost always take a commanding lead. It’s almost unfair.
There was a lot to dislike about Boston in the second half but credit the Mavs for making adjustments too. Fortunately, Mazzulla used his time outs to right the ship and that closed the deal for us.

When the Celtics don't need him (like in a blowout) Brown can show up big a post some great state lines. If you count on him to make a difference, he's going to turn the ball over and make bad decisions. Fortunately, even if Tatum melts in the clutch and Brown is consistently inconsistent, Holiday, White, Porzingis, and even Horford and Hauser (on offense) can make up for it.
National analysis is essentially mavs will win because Luka is better than Tatum
Is this 1 on 1 basketball? No. It's a basketball TEAM and the Celtics are loaded with 5 to 6 top weapons. As we saw in g1, Luka can't win by himself. Kyrie didn't show up.

The smugness after game 1…😬 I promise Jason Kidd is smaaatah than you guys. He’s the ultimate feel out game, chess not checkers, coach. If I’m being completely honest, I think KP caught them by surprise last night and took them out of the flow pretty early. They were probably expecting the defensive game plan coming in… literally everyone was, but wanted to see what it looked like against the offense they’ve ran so well the past two series before they change up the scheme. If it ain’t broke don’t fix it mentality. Now it’s broke and they’ll fix it 😂. Still confident in the Mavs to win this series. Honestly beating the Wolves wasn’t as fun as it should’ve been because they pretty much lost hope early on. It will be much sweeter beating Boston after they took a victory lap when they won game 1. 😂
What's gonna be their game plan though? They haven't played a team that can legit play Iso Defense across the board and are disciplined with it, and that same team can also attack on offense with any of their starters from anywhere on the floor.
@@jay_bird83126 if it were me… 😂. It’s all about forcing the Celtics to adjust. I’d let kyrie initiate the offense and play the two man game with Luka closer to the basket a lot more. If they’re going to play him straight up they’re at his mercy on a deep catch where he doesn’t have to dribble the air out of the ball to get to his spots. The Celtics are great 1 on 1 permitter defenders, but Luka isn’t just a great permitter player on offense. He’s elite at everything but free throws 😂. He can eat with his fade away, footwork and ability to draw fouls. If the Celtics bigs end up having to help it will open up the drop off pass and lobs. Also, with it being a two man game, the other help would have to come off kyrie. I think that scheme also gives Kyrie a little more freedom to attack early and push the pace. That and make open shots.

@@Thomasfrommygirl but their plan was to let Luka eat last game, why would they help out with him just because he's closer to the rim? They would just let him shoot and keep everyone else covered so he can't toss it out, and the Celtics have been one of if not the best team to not give up unnecessary fouls when defending

Yeah but Boston is based on draft picks and culture while bringing in talent to get them over the hump. That Laker team was built around top tier free agents and then becoming the future. Based on spending power and going to La. Boston got second level all stars that were drawn to go there because of the culture already in place. 2008 though Boston kind of went that route but it took trading 9 guys to do it.

The fact that KP accepted to be a luxury role player doesn't make him less of a superstar, while Jrue has been one of the best defenders in the league for years; both came in free agency. You know the facts. ;)
