I built a similar character. Chose Kobold instead for the advantage against all enemies for all allies for 1 round multiple times a day. Rogue 3 for mastermind and then the rest went into Fighter Battle Master. Took the Superior Technique fighting style and Martial Adept feat. I can use a bonus action for help or Draconic Cry ability, then attack for sneak attack and use Commander's Strike to give a heavier hitting ally an extra attack.
I’m actually toying around with mastermind rogue hobgoblin support build. Makes me really miss the UA feat Tandem Tactician. I’ll keep theory crafting on this.
2 years ago I had a lvl 5 Goblin that was 3 levels in Mastermind Rogue and 2 levels in Abjuration wizard. The ability to use defensive spells while renewing temp hit points and being able to proc your sneak attack was great while near a ally. With fury of the small and the 30ft help action allowing for very effective 2 person combat
While I love this build, this build is subject to DM because as according to the text, the Fey Gift only applies when you use the trait, not any time you use the help action, Fey Gift lets you essentially use a modified Help bonus action with extra bits a limited number of times, Mastermind Rogue lets you use the standard unmodified Help action, but as a bonus action I would explain this similar to say, getting extra attack from bladesinger and fighter or like getting unarmored defense twice
The additional bonuses from Fey Gift are set to a limited number of times which is correct and that is where my mistake was as the bonuses can't be used an unlimited number of times BUT Master of Tactics and Fey Gift do interact as Master of Tactics specifically states: "Additionally, when you use the Help action to aid an ally in attacking a creature, the target of that attack can be within 30 feet of you, rather than 5 feet of you, if the target can see or hear you." This means it modifies the range of the Fey Gift help action in combat.
I made a lv4 Hobgoblin that is lv3 Forge Domain Cleric and Lv1 Clockwork Soul Sorcerer (for Restore Balance). They're focused around being a helpful teammate support. Restore balance, Fey Gift, and the general Help action for support, among helpful spells. Additionally, they can use Artisan's Blessing to bless an ally's weapon or armor. I took chain mail and a shield to get their AC high so they can act as a tank and be in range for the help action. If they need damage I took Inflict Wounds. Heavily considering doing a mastermind, but I feel like the overlap with Fey Gift is a bit anti-synergistic, that said I guess Fey Gift can only be used a limited number of times so Mastermind's bonus help action can be used all other times.
Love the presentation, like the support maybe for a low magic campaign.. feel maybe a few levels in bard, would be more useful. I like the flavour but it appears weak. Tools appears to be circumstantial. Languages are bypassed by a first level comp languages spell. Maybe a re skinned bard may have worked better ? Anyway love your efforts keep it up. I am happy to subscribe and see what you do next.
@@DungeoneersPack i think that a mix between this and your glamor bard works well and gives the character some decent damage. Most likely 5 rouge/x bard.
For a level 10 character, I would flip the split to 6 Fighter and 4 Rogue. That way, you get 3 ASIs, and the only thing you really lack are the extra proficiencies and Uncanny Dodge.
if you don't need the ASI you can be a 5/5 and be able to attack twice to have one more chance to land sneak attack, as well as uncanny dodge, I feel this is optimal for melee where uncanny dodge will help tanking and is more consistent in the damage even if it misses out on a d6 on sneak attack
That help action.... has the thinking Mastermind Rogue at 3rd level. Master of Tactics. Seems like a fun little combo. I say this before you went into the build. I paused it when you were going over the abilities of the hobgoblin.
When you MC into fighter you don't get heavy armor proficiency so your comment about getting all weapon and armor proficiencies you didn't already have (around 4:35) isn't correct. I realize you're not using heavy armor for this build, but FYI.

@@DungeoneersPack That's fair, kinda wish that it did kinda let you do the fey gift on any bonus action help, but ya know, they gotta balance lol
@@GoblinLord The original UA version was worded in a way that you could. Couldn't get that one slipped passed them.
ive always loved the hobgoblins in the tome of battle book of nine swords they are the masters of the ironheart style!!

Sounds like an interesting build. Great job Josh!
Built something similar with a splash of eberrons dirge singer bard (from eberron) and some battle master. This is a glorious subclass.

Thank you! I do have a build using the Glamour Bard re-flavored to play this character fantasy too that is probably what you are looking for!
