    Love Goblins. They are great spellcasters because they can disengage and run away and they are great Barbarian, especially Ancestral Guardian. You run in, hit up to two of the enemies with advantage from Reckless, run away and now the enemies have disadvantage to attack your allies and if they decide to run after you, your allies get an Opportunity Attack. This it especially good if one of your allies decides to take the Sentinel feat so your enemies definitely cant run after you.

    Another synergy is to take advantage of the summons damage immunities. For example casting fireball on top of a Fire elemental, or cloudkill with undead and fiends. Great build by the way!

    I love summoners, and I NEVER would have thought to use the Evocation Wizard as a base for one. Great for an offensive blaster base
    I remember doing something similar with my War Mage Wizard. Not as Bursty, but they were hard to kill, and had decent sustained DPR and conserved spell slots thanks to summon utility, the Durable Magic Feature and Arcane Deflection + Power Surge (as crappy an ability as it is, we take what we can get).

    Highly advise the use of tiny servant on wizards as it adds a bunch of little concentration free servants to the battle field that can use your backpack for full cover, or even ride on a familiar for strafing runs. They are even better if you can get access to the magic stone cantrip for better attack and damage rolls.

    • @DioxJXD
      @DioxJXD Год назад +4

      @@Yarradras The Beholderkin has a STR of 16 and you could easily just have it grapple your small creature and fly off with it at half speed if you wanted to be that much of a downer. The character can choose to fail the check willingly and thus they would gain the flight speed. Grapples also do not have reoccurring checks unless contested so unless you're going to be -that- DM that goes out of the way to punish creativity with unnecessary checks, there's no reason not to let them do it.
      The character is already having to use a 4th level spell slot, which is one higher than the Fly spell as well as get a VERY specific component that can be prohibitively expensive depending how generous you are with gold in the campaign, not to mention the Beholder kin suffers the same weakness as other spells in that it can be dispelled, concentration can be lost on it and on top of that can be killed relativity easily I think putting unneeded restrictions on it is just punishing players for trying to do something interesting.

    So, what I often try to do with my summoner characters is try to have as many minions on the board throughout the day. For example a wizard summoner I played was a necromancy summoner who only utilized 3 skeletons, but also added in a summon greater demon spell, and a tasha's summon giving him 5 summons on the field very consistently. When combined with the magic stone for the skeletons I can deal ~61 DPR at level 8 with just my summons.

    You took this up to 13th level which means that there is still plenty more that can be done with this going forward.
    Summon greater fiend is a great spell to pick up because you can drop concentration on it and then summon your beholderkin which would fly above its reach and you don't have to go any farther as far as levels go to get this.
    Find familiar also gets you another summon.
    You can take the magic stone cantrip which will be helpful because of stuff I'll mention later.
    You can take 3 levels in druid to get summon beasts and a summon option from your subclass if you pick one of those subclasses
    You could take 3 levels in battle smith artificer to get a mech that follows you around and a homunculus servant that you have to spend gold on, as well as making two of your artificer infusions replicate magic item and picking spellwrought tattoo both times so that every time you get two tattoos you can put on anyone (including your own familiars) that allow them to cast find familiar without material components one time.
    Not to mention the most OP summoning spell ever that you failed to pick up: animate objects. It's not a conjuration spell because it's better.

    I love the fact that such a great synergy is just ... Play a wizzard Harry. 🎉😂
    There is also a the fact that you do get acces to spells that summon multiple creatures and they can dogpile while sculpt spells should have enought slots .
    Magic items wise this biuld needs nearly nothing besides what all wizzards want that is a glaring weaknes with the exeption of a ring of free action so the player can avoid suffering incapacitation into a free fall because that causes an automatic concentration loss .
    Addition wise the only thing i could come up with is the classic Hexblade dip for medium armour, shields, extra deadly magic missiles eldrich blast and maybe the interception fighting style from a feat or just trained for gold and downtime. That last one is kind of optional because of counterspell wars, shield and absorb elements being just so much more important then reducing damage on a summon you are riding.

    I feel like it's necessary to say that you can't just hide in the middle of a battlefield with tons of enemies looking at you. Your comments seemed to brush over that and thus imply you could. You'd have to run away behind bushes/trees, or inside around a corner/wall, then hide. Normally an invisibility spell would solve this and let us hide, except not in this build since that would use up our concentration we're using for summons.

  • @jAfr0Thunder86
    @jAfr0Thunder86 Год назад

    I have re-examined your build and I have a criticism. Every one of those summon spells has an expensive material component associated with it. If you do not have a generous DM that permits you to get these then you’re a little screwed for summoning. I think this is why the conjuration wizard Has that low level ability to conjure small objects with no value limit. That would completely negate the expensive material component problem. I’m considering doing this build as a level six conjuration wizard and level five artificer. After that I think you can go either way with the rest of the build.

I usually cast back and forth between Eldritch Blast (Jolt) and Chromatic Orb (Ver-element spells). At lvl 9 or 10 of Divine Soul, grab Holy Weapon for the Enchanted burst combo. Later later on, grab Fire Storm and Sunburst for Verflare and Verholy, respectively. • @SunLovinSolaire
    @SunLovinSolaire Год назад

    Technically speaking. Wouldn’t the Evocation Wizard capstone make it so you wouldn’t need to roll damage for your Summon?
    RAW a spell of 1st through 5th level is still a spell of that level even if it’s cast with a higher level spell slot. This is shown in how Globe of Invulnerability interacts with spells.
    Overchannel doesn’t require the spell to be Evocation, it just has to be a Wizard spell of 1st trough 5th level that does damage. It also doesn’t say that it proc’s when rolling damage, just when you cast the spell.
    RAW (if not RAI), that means that the 6th level Upcast Beholderkin would be doing guaranteed 17 psychic damage per ray, or 25 on a Crit. If all rays hit that puts the Summons DPR between 51 and 75

    • @DnD_Daily
      @DnD_Daily  Год назад +1

      Depends how you rule, I think it may not apply because it says "when you cast the spell" meaning that you can choose to do extra damage when you cast, but not at later turns. Definitely ambiguous enough that your DM could rule either way 👍

    • @SunLovinSolaire
      @SunLovinSolaire Год назад

      @@DnD_Daily my main reasoning for why it would apply to the entire spell is that it’s worded as affecting the spell and the casting is when the ability is triggered.
      Meanwhile Tempest Cleric’s channel Divinity which has a very similar purpose, explicitly only applies to a single damage roll, because it triggers WHEN you roll damage. Which is what prevents their Extra Spell, Call Lightning, from being the most powerful spell ever.
      That difference is what leads to my interpretation.

    • @DioxJXD
      @DioxJXD Год назад +1

      It can be argued on a technicality either way but RAI as posted by Crawford in regards to Overchannel and Bigbys Hands that it was intended at first, OVerchannel, to be one turn only but then was changed to "spells duration." But while the Summons can be dispelled they do not use the spells block but instead they use their own and thus are not apart of the spell after it's cast. While you're maintaining concentration on the spell to keep the Summon on this plane, you, and thus the spell, are not doing damage, the creature is and most times, the damage its doing isn't even magical without a feature so it can easily be argued that it doesn't work. The only reason the creature can be dispelled (and has concentration) is because your concentration is keeping the creature on the material plane ( or wherever you are) not the creature is the spell. So it can be heavily argued its not the spell doing any damage again but the creature you're holding here.

      How often is there nothing around a small creature can't use to break LoS? A 2 foot tall goblin can hide behind so many common things, even without being creative, so yeah, unless you're playing a very unfun DM style and/or having completley empty rooms/caves/forests, it will be very common.

      And even then, if your DM is being a buzzkill and you really want to expose it, just play a lightfoot halfling and continue the rogue theme and multiclass into rogue two levels for Cunning action and literally just hide behind your medium sized teammates every round RAW. Honestly though, if your DM is going out of their way to not let a small creature hide in every scene/combat under the excuse "there's no place for you to hide" then they sound very hostile and likely creatively bankrupt and boring and you should probably leave.
