What about War Magic in place of Abjuration? Arcane Deflection: Reaction +2 AC or +4 to Saves and Tactical Wit: Int mod to Initiative.

That is another solid option! When approaching this build I was really trying to get the flavor of the dwarf while also trying to mix the proficiencies to support the abjuration ability.
Even then the goal with my builds is to just provide a framework or direction to inspire you! Take this build and tweak it to fit your playstyle and character.

One of the best multiclass breakdowns I’ve seen on RUclips.

This is such a rad build. I am definitely going to use this build with some minor tweaks to make it more personal. Thank you a bunch!

I’m playing in an Icewind Dale campaign right now! I joined up a little late at level 3 but we’re currently level 5. I made a Half Drow Twilight Cleric who escaped the Underdark after her parents were killed for secretly worshipping Eilistraee instead of Lolth, now she’s made it her life’s goal to journey to all the darkest coldest saddest parts of Toril to show people that the world isn’t all suffering and can be full of beauty, music, dancing, etc. Kinda corny but gosh DAMN is she powerful lol

As a wizard you will most likely be using spells and as far as armor dwarves have the ability to ignore strength requirements so I might suggest making strength a lower priority as it only applies to weapon attacks which can be resolved with Shocking grasp in most cases.

I am jumping into an ongoing Icewind Dale game next week and they are level 4. I made a Firbolg Druid - Circle of the Ordning with an Exile background. At 5th level I am multiclassing to Barbarian for 3 levels. Most likely Path of Totem Warrior. Or use the Frozenfar Companion again and take Path of the Thunderbeast. This character is gonna crush heads up north!!!

If I ever get an opportunity to play Icewind Dale I'm going with either a Light Domain Cleric or an Evocation Wizard.

Nice build. I like your style of presentation, very easy to follow it. I am looking at a Forge Cleric Dwarf, considering whether to go straight or multi class to Paladin or Artificer or ??? I’ll be 14th level and will be fighting major demons and undead, visiting Hades, etc. I am looking for away to not take damage from area of effect spells, so I guess that would be counterspell. And Abjuration Wizard seems best for that.

Dwarf works great for heavy armor, as you don’t loose any speed when wearing heavy armor but lacking the strength..

And taking shocking grasp allows us to dump STR is a great strategy

If you are looking at mechanics a bit more I would go Rock Gnome and look at Svirfneblin Magic at your 1st ASI for maximum Arcane ward

Currently playing a character in this style. My DM and I tweaked and changed some things on the Abjuration Wizard, changing its 6th lvl feature for the Rune Carver (Rune Knight).
Fafnir, my character, is an Level 7 Abjuration Elf Wizard, a Planeswalker from Kaldheim, who was raised by Dwarfs, and basically became one (I use the Dwarf - Mark of Warding traits, including walking speed, just the Elf visuals).
He feels more of a Stronger Artificer due to the flavors, and that feels really good.
Right now, I'm proficient with 13 tools, 4 Languages, 7 skills, all swords and shield, and I mainly use Armor of Agathys (from Mark of Warding). Since everyone got a buff on a feature chosen by the DM, my Arcane Ward is now Thrice my level + Int (25 right now), and i use it to protect my Temporary Hit Points from the Spell.
For my first 45 HP, if I get hit, the creature takes 20 dmg per Hit. Metamagic Adept allows me to change its damage from cold to Fire, Acid, Eletrical...
Thanks to the Fire Giant Rune, Every tool has double proficiency added, making me almost the party Merchant. I can fix almost everything, create almost every normal item, and brew some good potions, poisons and antidotes... and of course, a really good meal and some strange and strong drinks using strange flowers and fruits.
Cloud Rune makes me the expert on dismantling traps since the rogue gave me his gloves (after all he walks on the ceiling), and a good liar if i need to so...
And the Hill rune gives me resistance to the charmed condition and to cold damage (The DM chose this since Dwarfs already have Poison resist)... and of course it gives me resistance to Slash, Pierce and Blunt damage for 1 minute once per Long Rest, which makes me more resistant.
I have only the Gloves of Thievery, and a +1 Shield, bumping my AC to 18. We had a total of 17 months of Free time between our Adventure.
In all ways, the "Arcane Artisan", as I like to call it, became my favorite style of character, I can't let go if it, neither play other style anymore.
Good damage dealer, Good frontliner, and a good troubleshooter.
And I thank you for that.
His looks are based on a Magic card that I only discovered due to the ilustrations that you use and The Idea of a Full-Caster Craftsman came all from here.
I never had such a fun playing a D&D game.

The Arcane Artisan is such a fun fantasy trope! Before the Artificer was released I played a Wizard that pretty much was an Artificer. Easily one of my favorite characters and character types to play but I have to force myself to play other things or else all my characters would be the same as that one. Glad you are having fun with the character and that I was able to help out in some way!

@@DungeoneersPack one thing that make him better was creating and trying to fit things where they don't normally exist (Like a Mark of Warding in a Planeswalker born in Kaldheim). If you accept any suggestions, you could make 2 to 4 videos fitting things like Dragonmarks in other D&D Settings, and maybe, the Ravnica Backgrounds as other Faction Based Backgrounds in these other Settings.
There are a lot of cool things that a DM and a Player can use by reflavoring it.

Why cleric for the first level instead of wizard? Is it because of the equipment the cleric starts with? Also, what arcane focus would the character use for wizard spells? They don't get the arcane focus right away after multiclassing.

Mechanically this works well. How about narratively

    • @DungeoneersPack
      @DungeoneersPack  3 года назад +3

Admittedly I could have relayed the narrative a lot better. Shield Dwarves in Kelvin's Cairn have Abjuration Wizards amongst their ranks to help protect the dwarves from a variety of threats.
Being a clan crafter I see this dwarf sitting in the same concept space as the artificer, creating a variety of items be it mundane or magical in order to fortify the defenses of the Dwarves living in or trading for Kelvin's Cairn.
