  • Have you or a player at your table tried to build a character inspired by Peter Pan or Final Fantasy’s Dragoon but there wasn’t exactly a class with enough options to do so and multiclassing wouldn’t pull off the concept either? What if I told you there is a 3rd party class option on the market designed by one of, if not, the best-selling DMsGuild class designers of all time that will let you or players at your table play a warrior that attacks at lightning speed? In this video, I will break down The Zephyr class by Benjamin Huffman to ease that fear and prove to you that this is a MUST-HAVE addition to your games.

    Benjamin Huffman's designs always make me feel like there is an alternate universe where there various 5e options are chosen ala carte, and automatically balanced to keep the game fair.

    I played with a homebrewed magic item that gave my druid zephyr strike and booming blade and along with the cloud giant feats from glory of giants it hit a lot of the same vibes of this class. Loved the theme of it all and this full class hits home even better.

    I absolutely love the way you explained 5E class balance. I’m a fellow class designer for 5E (I wrote the Fisher Class, available on DriveThruRPG in print and PDF) and haven’t found a more streamlined explanation of the same design tenets I use anywhere else. Great video, and looking forward to more!

    I already purchased this one. I would love to play the Necrodancer subclass.

    What is feathered steps meant to do? Can you also run up a wall or a ceeling with it? What applications could it have?

    So, incredibly broken as a dip for something like a Rogue?

    • @DungeoneersPack
      @DungeoneersPack  11 месяцев назад

      I don't believe so. As a 1 or 2 level dip the Zephyr doesn't add much to the Rogue's kit that would be considered "broken." You would only be able to use Flow once per long rest so that limits the powerful combination of expertise in a dexterity based skill and the advantage provided by Flow for dexterity based checks. Windborne Stride is probably the biggest boon for Rogues for exploration/stealth encounters. Cunning Action overlaps at 2nd level for both class making it feel redundant.
      Looking at a Rogue dip for the Zephyr and it's not much better. Yes, you have expertise and sneak attack but the sneak attack damage would be negligible. Expertise could just be picked up through the Skill Expertise if you really needed it so you can stick with your Zephyr class progression. Hope this helps!

      Unless I misunderstand, a Rogue can use their Cunning Action to get the normal effect + Attack, if it takes even a 1 level dip in Zephyr. You might not need any more.
      Something like Zephyr 1 / Rogue 4 / Fighter X, for example... You end up with so many attacks.

    • @DungeoneersPack
      @DungeoneersPack  11 месяцев назад

      @@CantripN Yes, but you are divesting a lot of time to set this up. A zephyr at level 2 can get that extra attack in on a bonus action during one combat with an activation of Flow. A 2 Rogue/1 Zephyr has to wait for 3rd level to do this. Just from an optimization standpoint, it's not efficient

      @@DungeoneersPack
      Sure, but they can do it all day, and also get sneak attack and a subclass. Optimization wise it's always a good dip if you're a rogue. Always.

      Mind, I'd allow the class, it super fun and flavourful, I'd just limit multiclassing.
      Otherwise every rogue, forever, will take a 1 level dip in it.
