Hey friends! I’m still very much in the learning stage for the accent I use in this video - it doesn’t feel natural for me yet, I often slip in and out of it accidentally, and Irish accents have such different sounds across different regions, too! But I don’t believe something has to be perfect in order to share it (if I believed that, I’d never share anything!) so I would appreciate y’all being kind and helping create an environment in which both me and others in this community feel comfortable sharing despite imperfection and learning as we go. Thank you! 💕
It sounds fine to me. I listen to Irish accents a couple of times per week due to the Dubliners on the Try Channel. They're hilarious if you ever want to see some mildly alcoholic folks try food and drink from around the world.
As an Irish person I will say your Irish accent is pretty good a bit scottish in places but not bad overall, and can't state enough how much I appreciate you put effort to sound genuine. Not just me a lot of Irish folks appreciate that

I think a lot of DMs sleep on fan-made or 3rd party content. I just ran a boss fight based on Nymwen that wouldn’t have been complete with a lair mechanic I found on Reddit. Honesty, once I get above level 9, homebrew and 3rd party content is a must for me to keep my game fresh.
In their defense, DM's have good reason to ignore homebrew. Content not officially made by Wizards of the Coast is prone to being OP because the people making them don't know what circumstances that content is going to be used in on account of not being part of the campaign. Not saying homebrew is bad-hell, my second campaign actually is TOTALLY homebrew, and it's VERY balanced.
I would love to get more into 3rd party, but i have a bit of a crutch with dndbyone since that's how me and my players build and run our games. Also where all my core content is located. Any advice to those like me?
@@KN-oc7cu Honestly, that is the primary reason I don't use D&D Beyond. BUT! You do have a couple options. 1. D&D Beyond allows you to add your own content. I love 3rd party content, and have since the 3rd edition days. It's really cool nowadays that you can get monsters and character classes inspired by different cultures around the world. There's a badass Latin American set that kickstarted in the last year and the monsters are amazing!
its funny cause i often come to Ginny Di videos to find inspiration for characters in the base classes and PHB, cause Ginny's got such a cool perspective. But! I am also soo down for expanding those horizons.
group themes really are super useful !! one of my first campaigns was built around every character wanting to hunt down the same guy but not knowing the other’s motivations. one PC was the guy’s son and was concerned because his father went missing. another PC was the guy’s secret wife who he had a second family with, and she and the son were very surprised by each other! and then there was my character, who was basically an undead entity who, in life, had been murdered by this guy and wanted revenge. they continued working together even after they all realized they had different goals, if only to confront this guy and ask what the hell is going on. it was the DM’s first campaign, so it didn’t end up going too smoothly after all, but i’d love to do a campaign with a hook like that again!
As a contributor to this Tome (two subraces and three subclasses), I was already super excited to get my hands on it once it releases, but you've managed to get me exponentially more amped with this video. Great job! :)
I am always happy to see one of your Centaur creations, and your Irish accent was pretty good! I lived there for five years...and one of the best things I discovered during that time is that there isn't a singular Irish accent, there's tons of them with small to large variations. I would place yours somewhere in Leinster--perhaps Kildare, the southern part of Louth, or the outskirts of Dublin itself. I think the thing Americans tend to get wrong with it is to overdo the lilt of it--a little bit goes a long way, and what I found as I was there for longer is that its not quite there all the time and always in the same pattern. There's also class and rural/urban differences in accents that are noteworthy, and can make the same accent fundamentally unintelligible to someone of the same region or city simply for the speed or inflection (as I witnessed many times for people in Cork City, where I lived!). Try a Cork or Kerry accent to sound a bit more hard-edged for, perhaps, a barbarian or a fighter character, or a Northern Irish accent for a bard, rogue, or magic-wielder! And if you haven't seen the Pulp Fiction "royale with cheese" scene in the broad Kerry accent on RUclips before, check it out! ;)

Ms. Ginny, this video was really good! I have been playing since '77 ( before Star Wars...) and like most people I have had "issues" with my perception of how the game is played vs my players version. Videos like this give a DM so many chances to see new ideas and open new options for a game. Thank you for sharing. This is a rare book in my opinion, I am pretty sure I will have to buy it in the near future. Thanks for sharing with us!
I've always found the third party books that have been sponsors from time to time super interesting and wanted to include them. Now I just need the funds to buy them!
My home campaign is based on a kobold press setting!! And oh my god this one has SO MUCH?? There's literally so many options here to make characters and parties!
Yeah there's homebrew races, subclasses, and items all over the place. The ones from Kobold Press are arguably better than most of what you'd find out there, but the downtime mechanics and the two new magic systems are what I'm much more interested in with this book.
Amazing! I love both accents, the David Attenborough narration (loving Prehistoric Planet!) and your own accent! As usual your cosplay, acting, and videos are so great!
I know that you made a great effort in creating the cosplay, the script, the details of the book....but I am so basic, i was already sold just by looking at the gorgeous book cover art.
I love this Video being a DM that runs a bi weekly Kobold Press Midgard game and a Campaign based in Faerun. It is a nice change for my players and the Midgard world is so creative. You can literally pick a sentence out of the Worldbook and immediately get a new idea.

I loved your videos so much!
Your energy for most of the video was what was selling me on this book. And then you mentioned the rune that can eliminate the need for 50gp worth of components. Time to start spamming Chromatic Orb!
I saw someone on a different video talking about how they had a Swarmkeeper Ranger who was literally just a swarm of bees in a proverbial trenchcoat, and all of their swarm abilities were just the bees doing their bee thing.
Great stuff! This needs to be done more. The 3rd Party stuff is amazing if you get into it. Sadly they seem to be tied to first party output. For instance, remember when Feywyld came out and there were like 5 books all tied to the Fae in some way within a year. One of the issues that hurts me is that I KNOW I am only going to buy one of these books so I really need people like you to contrast the books so I know which one is best for the way may game is played. Since these books are not in the bookstore we can't flip through them and see what we are paying for. HELP US! Is there some rule from the sponsors saying you can't do this? Another more present example: Spectacular Settlements (Nord Games) vs. Campaign Builder: Cities and Towns (Kobold Press). I understand one is heavier on charts but the other has more flesh to plots and NPCs, but thats it. I need more info to make a good decision on a purchase!
I thought I knew Rangers until I read the Rangers apprentice series. I was blown away. If you have not read it already I recommend it. Thanks for the awesome video.
YO! This book sounds awesome and exactly my jam! Thank you for sharing it, and encouraging people to check out 3rd party books, there's a wealth of great content out there. Also, you did a great job at the Irish accent, I'm convinced you're a natural with accents in general!
I'm a newbie DM who plays with a group of DMs so using Kobold Press books is pretty standard for us. Lately I've been reskinning a handful of free/low cost adventures from dmsguild for my homebrew, and bought The Islands of Sina Una to incorporate some pre-colonial Filipino myth and folklore into my setting.
Kobold Press does some great work, apparently even Wizards of the Coast think so, as they commissioned KP for the Tyranny of Dragons adventures. Their Tome of Beasts is well regarded. My personal favorite 3rd party book is Exploring Eberron. While technically 3rd party, it's written by the setting's creator, Keith Baker. It adds so much to the base Eberron setting.
This was a lovely video :D Great in-depth review w/your trademark well thought out reasons as to WHY folks would want to use it. Looks to be another great book! Now you need to take that Alseid out for a spin , , , maybe in the Margeave Forest perhaps heheh. Thanks agan for another fun one Ginny!
LOVE the 3rd party love and review. Great job!! Love me some kobold press books. Would love to see MORE 3rd party book reviews like this!! Two 3rd party content I'd particularly love to call to your attention are Abyssal Brews magic items, & Auroboros: Coils of the Serpent, a 5e sourcebook by Warchief Gaming, some of the original creators of World of Warcraft! Abyssal Brews is much smaller Patreon, but they have incredible magic items, and a few other things like a travel system and Paladin/Bard subclass.
@@KoboldPress Day 1 pocket editions, please! I prefer smaller, lighter books and often have to stuff everything in a backpack when I DM away from home.
Some pretty great ideas in this one. My DM mostly includes homebrew stuff he's made (and published) himself, since it's easier for him to just share the bits we need without everyone having to buy whatever we need, but he's a pretty chill bloke and I reckon he would be fine with most things. This book does have me interested, so maybe this could be included in most things...
speaking as someone who had to train their Irish accent, you did really well. also a trick I've used to surprise/mess with my players is to describe normal animals in odd ways that the characters might not be familiar with. 12 foot tall beast with beady eyes, sturdy pillar like legs, 2 long sharp tusks, thick leathery hide, large ears and a long flexible tentacle coming out of its face= Elephant odd creature the size of a large horse with shaggy fur, long spindly legs with large feet, a swan like neck, grasping lips and a bulbous mass on its back= camel I'm telling you it works every time lol
Whatever they're paying you for advertising is not enough - I clicked that link SO FAST after you started describing the subclass options and the new backgrounds!
MCDM makes the best stuff. Beastheart class is the most fun I’ve had playing a class. Their monster design is the best, so cool and very easy to run as a DM.
Honestly I agree, out of everything you can homebrew, I think that races are the easiest to tell if they're unbalanced & the least risky. With homebrew classes there's a LOT to take into consideration.
Favorite Homebrew: Kobold Press is excellent! Loved Tome of Foes I & II! Griffon's Saddlebag for fun items! Humblewood for maximum small animal cuteness! Heliana's Guide to Monster Hunting for the gorgeous art! Fool's Gold: Into the Bellowing Wilds for Spiderfolk, Vampires, and the Dire Tarrasque! Battlezoo Bestiary to play as a DRAGON!
I already love the Kobold Press books I've gotten, but this is a fantastic pitch for this one! Definitely going to dig into those subclasses when I get mine.
I liked this video alot. It's an important topic that I think many people overlook/miss out on. 3rd party content is awesome and I hope more people see it thanks to this video!
Thanks Ginni…as though I didn’t have enough material from Kobold Press, I had to pre order both the hardcover and pdf (makes transferring into D&D Beyond a ton easier). Seriously though, thanks for the heads up, I always on the lookout for more content for my game and love Kobold Press
Loved that into. I homebrew a lot of stuff for my games. It was really popular in person, but became an issue online as players were having trouble adding it to d+d beyond.
This book sound amazingly magical. Totally makes me want to participate in a game or even run again. Love you half elf half deer centaur character you created. Her musical Irish brogue tickled me ears and made me smile. Sláinte.
Well I am certainly sold!! It looks like so much fun, I love having all the options as a DM for both myself and my players! And yes I am also all about the nature stuff lol!
I definitely did hear like a little bit of Scottish slip in here & there, but overall not bad. I've been an Irish dancer for 20 years, been to Ireland 2x, and it's still certainly better than I could do! Good job Ginny!
My personal favorite 3rd party book is Valda's, it has new races, options for different half-humans, 10 brand new classes, a lot of new subclasses, more feats and spells, starting feats for background stuff, and auxiliary levels that are kinda like mini-classes.
One of my DM's and I love the Valdas spire of secrets book, and have been working it into several games recently. And he just decided to start up a strixhaven game letting everyone pick races and classes for their students. Im playing a spirithost witch, and another player is a stuffed geppetin cowboy named Sheriff Buckaroo Fuzzington that protects me. Its great
Running Candlekeep Mysteries as a full campaign and have been sprinkling in 3rd party (and old previous edition) adventures in and its worked really well.
I've never really strayed far from the core rules and "official" sourcebooks (I have a shelf full of 2e books from TSR), so I had no idea how much third-party content was out there. Gonna look into some soon. Also, great work on the accent! Every time I try Irish it usually turns into Scottish and back several times per conversation, with a fair bit of the various other British accents mixed in...Some Welsh, London, Cockney, etc. because I just love trying them all but I never put a lot of effort into mastering just one at a time.
I love all of my Kobold Press books and I'm looking forward to seeing Tome of Heros get a "Pocket Edtion". I initially bought Tome of Beasts because one of my players was either looking up monsters at the table (we were playing remotely and I couldn't see them) or they had just straight up memorized large chunks of the Monster Manual and I needed new baddies. I've been a Kobold Press convert ever since and if it weren't for the upcoming Spelljammer stuff I'd have more Kobold Press books that official 5E books.
I just bought my first 3rd party book. The Tome of Beasts 2. Some/Most of the creatures are very strange but they are very cool and have even cooler artwork.
I thought I recognised those dulcet tones in the intro - go Ralph! I think your accent is just fine and you should keep trying new stuff. Your content is always tip-top and I really dig your style and your takes on DMing and D&D.
Well, now I’m even more excited for my backer copy of Tome of Heroes to ship. I’m always excited to dig into new third party spells and items, but the possibilities of the new races and subclasses has me champing at the bit to dig through the book.
I may try 3rd party content one day lol - I'm a prolific homebrewer, so I can't help but make it myself lmao. I even made a deer centaur for my own campaign called the Cernonna, so nice to see other people are also doing the same.
You may note that about halfway through the video, the full-width footage gets... greener 😅 this is because I wasn't able to get all the footage I needed on my first shoot day, and had to have a second shoot about a week and a half later!
I have a really neat 3rd party book called The Esper Genesis Core Manual. It’s basically for dnd but in space, and while a lot of the content is reskinned 5e rules what is new(with the exception of some of the races, they need some tweaking) is really fun and hella original
One of my favourite Background variations is to simply remove The Guild part from the standard Guild Background. Letting the player have the Skills but removing the obligation and bonusses the Guild brings so they have to prove themselves when they want to work somewhere.
The book of house has to be one of my favorite 3rd party books I've implemented into my games. Lot of fun and goofy stuff that's resulted in some pretty epic moments at the table!
Ginny get your elbow up when you fire that bow! Crank that thing, can‘t shoot a bow with your wrist. You‘ll hurt yourself! The Alseid(?) cosplay is fire!!
If it helps anyone, i HIGHLY recommend the "Stibbles Codex of Companions" book. It's simply perfect for those parties that just love pets, and want to bond with them, train them, and use them in battle. The Feats and items it has are amazing, and all the companion options are so so interesting! Im right now DMing a campaign in which companions are a core aspect of the world, and this book has been nothing but perfect for it~
Ooh, my party's using Valda's Spire of Secrets which is a very good time! Especially since all of us are a bit too familiar with the core 5e books, it's good to make things that can surprise all of us.
One thing I would also point out for races is that Tasha's does have the custom lineage which can be an easy way to tool a nonstandard race idea if you're still hesitant about going 3rd party content. See what your players come up with and then compare that to 3rd party content if you're worried about balance.

Ah, fantastic! Thank you so much. And we agree, Sina Una is a wonderful book.
I've been running Kobold Press stuff for about 3 years now. I couldn't get into their world but I've taken a lot of the lore, races, and classes.
We hope you're having fun!
Thank you so much!
12 foot tall beast with beady eyes, sturdy pillar like legs, 2 long sharp tusks, thick leathery hide, large ears and a long flexible tentacle coming out of its face= Elephant
odd creature the size of a large horse with shaggy fur, long spindly legs with large feet, a swan like neck, grasping lips and a bulbous mass on its back= camel
I'm telling you it works every time lol
You are my favorite D&D creator
Incredibly well done, clever opening.. thank you for this amazing content!!!
Favorite Homebrew:
Kobold Press is excellent!
Thank you! We appreciate your kind words.
@@KoboldPress I appreciate the Cave Dragon I terrified my party with 😂😈
I love all the work you put into your videos, the cosplay, the accent, the special effects! you are incredible in every aspect!
I already love the Kobold Press books I've gotten, but this is a fantastic pitch for this one! Definitely going to dig into those subclasses when I get mine.
Thank you and we hope you enjoy it!
Yes! We mean, we're so sorry. (No, we're not.)
Sláinte.
Oh I love this!!! I giggled in glee seeing your thumbnail.
I want to figure out downloading your RP videos so I can try a response vid. How fun!!
Agree! I found a Cormyr 3rd party book and it was a blast. Really fleshed out my favorite FR region.
The Leather jacket/shoulder thing is SO awesome, you look amazing in it too!
Well I am certainly sold!! It looks like so much fun, I love having all the options as a DM for both myself and my players! And yes I am also all about the nature stuff lol!
I have been LOVING these kobold press videos!
I definitely did hear like a little bit of Scottish slip in here & there, but overall not bad. I've been an Irish dancer for 20 years, been to Ireland 2x, and it's still certainly better than I could do! Good job Ginny!
Wow! Excellent cos-play. Especially the eyes...
Since my backyard is quite infested by does and fawns I can vouch to the resemblance... lol!
My personal favorite 3rd party book is Valda's, it has new races, options for different half-humans, 10 brand new classes, a lot of new subclasses, more feats and spells, starting feats for background stuff, and auxiliary levels that are kinda like mini-classes.
I found the book mentioned in the video on AnyFlip (because I'm poor) and there's an investigation bard. I wanna make a bard with sheriff energy now.
Its great
LOVE YOUR ACCENT!! I think you did a fantastic job!! The cosplay is fantastic as well! Well done , Ginny!
Thanks for the great video. I’m glad you liked the Monstrous Adoptee background!!!
This is maybe the coolest costume yet! What an amazing job you did!
Ah! Thank you so much for your kind words! We're glad you love our stuff. We have a lot of fun creating new creatures for players to be delighted by.
Kobold Press does good stuff. Love those hedgehog people! They get a fancy Rogue subclass that let's them sneak attack with Shillelaghs!
Thank you!
I just bought my first 3rd party book. The Tome of Beasts 2. Some/Most of the creatures are very strange but they are very cool and have even cooler artwork.
Ooooh! We are rather proud of that book. Have fun with the creatures inside!
I thought I recognised those dulcet tones in the intro - go Ralph!
I think your accent is just fine and you should keep trying new stuff. Your content is always tip-top and I really dig your style and your takes on DMing and D&D.
These third parties you announce are always great. Thanks.
Might I recommend Scarred Land from Onyx Path Publishing
I really love that plant pouch you made! I know it’s a year old video but I’d absolutely watch if you did a diy channel
Well, now I’m even more excited for my backer copy of Tome of Heroes to ship. I’m always excited to dig into new third party spells and items, but the possibilities of the new races and subclasses has me champing at the bit to dig through the book.
What a great (and timely) video. Thank you
I may try 3rd party content one day lol - I'm a prolific homebrewer, so I can't help but make it myself lmao. I even made a deer centaur for my own campaign called the Cernonna, so nice to see other people are also doing the same.
AWESOME ! your enthusiasm is adorable and contagious!
Ginny Di has sold me on this book, I just need to find out where to get it, and the books about combining various races.
Recently, you shared how you weren't pleased with your footage. Yet, now that you've released it, it's a compelling caricature!
You may note that about halfway through the video, the full-width footage gets... greener 😅 this is because I wasn't able to get all the footage I needed on my first shoot day, and had to have a second shoot about a week and a half later!
You've definitely sold me on this book! If only I had money and could play regularly enough to justify it 😅😭
Alseid are the reason I purchased the first Tome of Beasts and I love that they are now playable!
I supported Tome of Heroes on Kickstarter, but all this extra information is definitely making me even more anxious for it to arrive
Ginny get your elbow up when you fire that bow! Crank that thing, can‘t shoot a bow with your wrist. You‘ll hurt yourself! The Alseid(?) cosplay is fire!!
I’ve bought stuff from kobold press before, it was solid. And great video! Like the new cosplay!
If it helps anyone, i HIGHLY recommend the "Stibbles Codex of Companions" book. It's simply perfect for those parties that just love pets, and want to bond with them, train them, and use them in battle. The Feats and items it has are amazing, and all the companion options are so so interesting! Im right now DMing a campaign in which companions are a core aspect of the world, and this book has been nothing but perfect for it~
Agreed. I love that book
so awesome you enjoyed it, thank you!
I made an NPC Human Gunslinger named Siobhan and I gave up trying an Irish accent for her pretty quickly. Kudos on yours. It's quite good.
Ooh, my party's using Valda's Spire of Secrets which is a very good time! Especially since all of us are a bit too familiar with the core 5e books, it's good to make things that can surprise all of us.
Lots of great information - this was really helpful! Thanks!
One thing I would also point out for races is that Tasha's does have the custom lineage which can be an easy way to tool a nonstandard race idea if you're still hesitant about going 3rd party content. See what your players come up with and then compare that to 3rd party content if you're worried about balance.
