I made a class based on your Witch Knight build with a few modifications, and ended up with a Paladin caught twixt their divine patron and a Puppeteer style entity for our Strahd campaign show. Absolutely enthralling, and the DM is using the dueling patrons with a lot of enthusiasm.
Great advice, I look forward to hearing about this build.

Sorcadins are by far my favorite characters.
However, I take my 3rd level as Sorcerer which unlocks all the spells from the beginning to include GFB or BB earlier. You also get access to Bonus Action spells such as Healing Word and Reaction Shield.
It does slow down your 5th level jump a bit, but since Cantrips increase in damage with character level and not class level, you still get to do more damage, but you have 1 less attack to try to hit or smite with. That said 6th level gives that to you as well.
Here's hoping BG3 adds in GFB or BB...

You could also do two levels of paladin, two levels of hex blade, and 16 levels of swords barred. this would give you eighth level spells, A ninth level spell slot, the ability to use your charisma modifier instead of strength, and Eldridge blast.

I have a Fallen Aasimar Twilight Cleric/Shadow Sorcerer combo who worships Scrion and Tannag as corrupted powers came about from hiding away from a holy war in the Shadowfell. My whole is sniping enemies from magical darkness (Eldritch devil's sight, spells sniper, and warcaster, feats) then rushing in to revive the tank. A few levels of Twilight druid for the Harvest Scythe used on magic missiles makes for a great heal/damage combo with a silvery barbs/icingdeath frost or entangle to lock enemies in the darkness up close.

The other benefit of going to 6/7th level Paladin - The Find Steed+GF/Booming Blade Interaction. Find Steed states that “you can make any spell that targets only you also target your steed,” and GF/Booming have a range of “Self,” so when you cast GF/Booming Blade, it also affects the Steed’s natural weapons - which have to make an attack as part of the spell!

    • @agilemind6241
      @agilemind6241 2 года назад +2

That is extremely debatable. Cone of Cold has a range of "Self" but it does not target only you, it targets all the creatures in the cone. Thus most DMs should rule that BB/GFB do not target only you thus do not affect the Steed.

    • @willyeeton4390
      @willyeeton4390 7 месяцев назад

Wanting to meet up with his parents after long time no see. Using and updating the Yellow coastal salt dragon statblocks from old Dragon magazine 245 and lore in that Tiamat have bred more chromatic dragon types which again gave rise to yellow, purple, orange dragonborns aswell. My Green dragonborn would have condensed salt breath attack but also a sorcerers dragon path with lightning, since one of his parents is a Blue dragon. Blue+ Yellow = Green you know. Tiamat could intentionally have color blending teaching as part of cross breeding her chromatics or just stand alone. WotC take note! Honestly, i love your content guys but of all the combos you could do, this one needs the least explanation. There simply is no going wrong. Neither with the choice of subclasses (i just love my Aasimar oath of devotion/divine soul) or the split. Once you got to 5/5 you can literally burst the damage of a level 20 fighter. And after that the world is your oyster. Do whatever feels good to you and you will still have an AWESOME character.
I know my build Pal15/sor5 is opposite of "ideal" but do I care when I can dish out ludicrous damage and just refuse to kick the can? (Arguably the most important is the second part)
It just is a beatiful combo to learn multiclassing imho as it is ultra forgiving and you always end with a solid as gold character.

    • @Hazel-xl8in
      @Hazel-xl8in 2 года назад +1

the only issue with that burst is that you quickly run out of gas, whereas the fighter can just short rest once and be ready to go again. it’s absolutely impressive, just not quite the same.
also, “once you hit 5/5” my dog the game is over. level 10 characters are already very strong, and games tend to peter out around then. this video is about what to do before you get to that point

    • @Metalhammer1993
      @Metalhammer1993 2 года назад

@@Hazel-xl8in yeah that burst is really short lived but let me tell you it feels AWESOME! Seriously my paladin/sorcerer is the most fun I've head. And it's great to just have that "insane mode" stowed away. I know, I can only use it in serious fights and use my resources sparingly in all other encounters. But good lord, it feels good when you let loose.
It's almost an anime moment. Supersayan, ninetails transformation, bankai. Take your pic.
To be fair I am mostly playing mid-high level campaign. I know that's not what most prefer, but I've done a few campaigns to twenty.
We're at level 13 now, sor 5 pal 8. 5/5 was when this build really gets going. But no matter how you get there, you will have a great character. I actually picked the wrong route and multiclassed to early.
I turned sorcerer at level 3 because the campaign we were running was brutal enough, I couldn't plan ahead that was my second character that campaign. I've been constantly running out of spell slots for healing or just buffing my AC. So I dipped 2/1 then 2/2 then 2/3 all the way to 2/5 simply because I had made the mistake to dip early but even then it was a good character.
It worked. It's a character you cannot go wrong with. No matter in which stage of the game. You won't believe how many times having haste "early" at level 7 proved to be a lifesaver. (Haste to this day is a lifesaver. Despite me using it wrong all the time. I can booming blade on the haste action instead of doing a regular attack)

do paladin sorcerer warlock...is a great combination but is hard to pull out because you need a lot of little things to understand.
I disagree on this getting 6 level in paladin...
you need sorcerer before for healing...I will do 2 level paladin then 2 sorcerer so you have smite and sorcery points you want to get 3 level of sorcerer for metamagic but you don't need it right away and maybe a 1 level dip in hexblade warlock...
when you have 2 levels of paladin with smite
2 level of sorcerer to sorcery point to use to create spell slot you are set...
1 level warlock give you shield early on and 1 more 1 level slot at low level 2 if you do a 2 level dip... best should be 3 for invocation and improve pact weapon

I'm trying to build this one but I have a lot off issues

class I started with paladin oath of ancient
stat I use standard array giving 15 cha on +2 for race 14 STR 13 Con 12 Dex 10 Int and 8 Wis +1 for the race bonus
now for multiclass I want to go hexblade Right away even before the second level paladin for eldlich blast and shield and so i can use Cha to attack
then it come the fist problem...I go for sorcerer divine soul for support and healing and spell slot or i keep going with paladin and hexblade
the landmark i want are paladin smite and aura of protection
hexblade agonizing blast and pact of the blade and improved pact weapon
sorcerer i want the sorcery point and a mid level spells slot so before a short rest I can use the warlock slot for sorcery point and then I can use those to metamagic or to create low level spell slot to smite
you get a lot from sorcerer divine soul you can use quicken spell and twin spell to double your spell use... quicken a bless or a Eldrich blast and then attack and use smite... if you get level 5 as warlock hexblade you can double the smite using divine smite and Eldrich smite together...

Thanks for the "Sorcadin" guide. Divine soul is nice, but clockwork is stronger. My ranking:
Clockwork > Aberrant > Divine Soul > Shadow Magic > Other
Clockwork - x2 the number of your spells (more combat potential)
Aberrant - x2the number of your spells (more social potential)
Divine Soul - it's good when you just want to play the default paladin with a couple of new options/ priest spells are very organic for a paladin
Shadow Magic - same as the previous one, but if you want to play default evil paladin shadow magic is your choice (hexblade still better)
    * I took into account the subclasses level benefits)

Having played this, here's my insights on what you could've done:
    1. you could've dipped hexblade 1 to align your attack/cast stats if not using a 2-hander.
    2. you could've started sorc 1 for con save prof and early access to shield, guidance, etc. the tradeoff here is no heavy armor but imo medium armor + dex is better anyway. 1 less ac but +2 initiative, dex saves and dex skill checks. extra attack comes 1 level late but that isn't a long wait and you get booming blade scaling at level 5 to tide you over.
    3. imo the pal 2 + sorc x version manages resources better as you attack less (have 1 less attack to smite on) but you have more spell slots to smite with. quicken haste or quicken booming blade gives you a 2nd/3rd attack.
    4. divine sorc is indeed the best pick for the sorc subclass here unless you want to have some fun with wild magic. for paladin subclass, i'd pick conquest simply for the guided strike channel divinity. or vengance for vow of enmity. taking conquest up to 7 is fine. another pick for 7 is oath of watchers to increase the action economy of the party. oath of the ancients imo is overrate as it's resistance to magic dmg. it's not advantage to saves.
    5. subtle spell can be considered for metamagic if you wanted to go sword and board without the warcaster feat tax. not all spells have S components without M anyway.

Add a booming blade (magic initiate) and Maul with crusher feat and the heavy armor AC and is a win/win

Yes, with a feat to get booming blade, also find familiar since bards are ritual casters, bards get less cantrips than other fullcasters, so its good for them.
Silvery barbs is op too, and yes, lore bards using cutting words is the best reaction for the bards to help allies, alternate with silvery bards for action economy, and lore bards get aditional magical secrets
People sometimes think bardic inspiration is a lowkey feature because its basic use is nit that great, but bardic inspiration realnuse is for subclass features. In this case one of the best ones: reaction to help and save allies: cutting words reduce the attacks on allies, and silvery barbs can make enemies fail saves. Is about get them right.
Also, with additional magical secrets you could actually choose cantrips, not recomended but it works too

(unless you take the Blessed Warrior fighting style, which isn't an ideal fighting style for the paladin most of the time.) It does put you 1 level behind for getting your ASI and extra attack, etc; but being 1 level behind isn't too bad, and in my opinion, it's kind of worth it.

My paladin/sorcerer is a Reborn Vengeance/Shadow Sorcery, with a few allowances from the DM for Thaumaturgy and Spirit Shroud (renamed Shadow Thaumaturgy and Mantle of Death), and it's amazing even at only 5/5 as of right now.
His rough backstory is that he used to be a champion of the god of death, but centuries ago was almost killed and sealed himself in a hidden tomb, only to awaken now with no memory of who he used to be. This has led to some fun bits, for example where, as a side quest (the others couldn't make it to the session to continue the main story), some of our party went to investigate a mysterious new cult. The eldritch being they worshipped was contacted first by the bard, who then informed the Hexblade and my character how to do it. Upon my character entering the dream-space to converse with it, the eldritch being almost panicked, saying "You? How are you here?! Please, I don't want any trouble. If my cult is interfering with your business, I'll tell them to move somewhere else."
How he plays is he spends 2 sorcery points to cast Darkness on himself that he can see through, he gets advantage on attacking everyone while everyone else gets disadvantage on attacking him, and just wrecks house. What's even funnier is that, as the DM's unique setting is where a technologically advanced world that had lost its magic and monsters merged with a young world that still had it, we ended up going up against exo-suit soldiers with infrared goggles to see through darkness. Until our druid asked, "Since [my paladin/sorcerer character] is technically dead, would he not show up on infrared?" Which I LOVE as a terrorizing tactic, because Darkness pops up, they put on their infrared goggles, and my character is still gone, but the enemies are still getting hit!

I like Paladincerer (pal-uh-DINTZ-ur-ur). Their background says they're from Pittsburgh.
As I was watching, I was thinking "Take Paladin to Level 7, because you're of course playing a subclass that gets something sexy at Level 7; then pile on seven levels of Divine Soul Sorcerer; Favored By the Gods at Level1 alone is almost worth the dip; which puts you at Level 10 on the Multiclass Spellcaster Table on pg. 165 of the PHB -same number of Smite Slots as a 20th-level Paladin. Then a two-level Fighter dip to get Action Surge, and finish Paladin (Aura of Courage and Improved Divine Smite), for Paladin-11/Sorcerer-7/Fighter-2.
The calculation is whether or not you think Action Surge (and a 2nd Fighting Style, and Second Wind) is worth losing the 4th ASI/Feat you'd get at either Paladin-12, or Sorcerer-8.

Favorite character I ever played was a 3/3.5 half dragon fighter 4/sorc 10/Spell Sword 10 with Arcane Strike and a Great Sword. (Yes, we did go into epic levels) She was a little bit of the melee equivalent of a Glass Cannon, because of lowered ho from la and all those sorc d4 HD, but being a half dragon she had 18 str and 18 cha; with Arcane Strike, I got +7/+7d4 on 5 attacks (and attacks of opportunity) so she hit like a mac truck.
I've been looking at how I could replicate this character in 5e with Balders Gate 3 coming out and Ibsaw how Paladin Smite mechanically workes very similar to Arcane Strike, so a Dragonborn Paladin 6/Sorc 6+ with GWF and GWM.

    1) First level: Draconic Bloodline Sorcerer. AC equals 13 + your Dexterity modifier, and proficiency in Con saves (for concentration)
    2) Second Level Paladin. Go for a 1 handed Finesse weapon
    3) Get your Dex to 20 asap. Your AC is now 13 (Draconic) +5 (Dex) + 2 (Shield) + 2 Shield of Faith (later Haste) + 5 (Shield spell if needed) = AC 27
    4) Get Silvery Barbs and/or Lucky Feat, for those pesky Crits.
    5) Make your DM cry with your Str 8, armorless Sorcadin
    6) Oh, en make Cha your 2nd highest, for a juicy Aura of Protection at Pal6

I played a hard Sorcadin about 2017 in Elemental Evil, and (9:08) I got Paladin 2 - Sorcerer 7 - Paladin 6 as progression. Lvl 5 power spike was on Booming Blade + GFB, and it worked like a charm, especially when you Quicken this cantrip. Finally, Haste on lvl 7 plus Dimension Door lvl 9 was a really strong.
A tip on the bad part of this build: mobility. Always have Misty Step, Thunder Step, Dimension Door, anything that teleports. Even Longstrider helps a lot. And be a nightmare to your DM! :) Also never OA, save your reaction for Shield and Absorb Elements.

You know that you HAVE to add at least 2 or 3 levels of Warlock (Hexblade with Pact of the weapon and leave STR to 13) right?
I'm playing a Paladin/Warlock right now, started the campaign at 8 (with 5/3). She made a Conquest Oath that she broke the same day (because of "plot" reasons) to become a Hexblade Warlock and an Oathbreaker on top (before the campaign started).
Now she is at level 11 (6/5), and in the next level she will "awaken" her Divine Soul Sorcerer powers all the way to 20. I can't wait to start Quickening Booming Blade and use my 3rd level Warlock slots for extra points.
Saying that my little albino Tiefling that carries a huge greatsword in her back smiting anything that dares to get in her way is a BLAST to play, is a colossal understatement. Plus, double-smiting with both Divine and Eldritch Smites is just too OP.
Btw, she made a new Oath (Devotion) because of how the campaign turned out (it was absolutely amazing when it happened), and using the GWM's extra damage with the Sacred Weapon is...yeah, I love it.

I run a pal6 (ancients)/divine sorc 1 of Chauntea, walking sorc the rest of the way (maybe grabbing 1 more pal for warding aura). FARMER PALADIN! Hoping to fix Icewind dale and build a magical greenhouse by the Lonelywood.
Human, feat- I did Warcaster + pole arm master between lvl 1&4 with dueling (go spear/shield or staff/shield right now). I like having the 2 AC from the shield and +2 damage form dueling on the 2 main action attacks + bonus action attack (and polearm master often giving me the free OA-> booming blade; PAM is great with 1h polearms too). I usually cast bless on round 1 for our party (which helps with my concentration anyways) at this level; you don't have to wait until higher level to have effective spells too. (Quicken bless on round 1 when I get to 9 will be cool). Other wacky stuff: Twinned cure wounds or protection from evil can be kind of cool at lvl 9 (later, twinned haste or greater invis?)
So overall yeah I agree with your the video build comments and how it plays out... The only major difference for me is the staff+shield with dueling & PAM. I get to tank/buff/heal/do good damage and take care of my squishy caster friends while being very hard to take down.

Great vid, but some truly awesome options didnt fit in. I belive paladin sorcerer deserves more time.
Starting with metamagic extended spell, for just 1 point you can double the duration of aura of vitality healing for an additional 20d6. But you could also twin or extend more useful paladin spells, even low one.
Sorcerer also has access to haste. I think twinned haste or extended haste is the way.
So I would probably go for 11 level paladin for extra 1d8, and I would end up with pala11 sorcerer5 on level 16. Then you could do 3-4 attacks each turn with 1d8 bonus.
Regarding to if big weapon or sword and board. If I would play sword and board, I would more focus on critical hits => do as many attacks as possible with advantage and on critical hit do the smite. So shield master would be an option to knock down enemies with bonus action.
With big weapon I would probably go with -5/+10 and do attack as bonus action for crits or kills.
Regarding to war caster, I think paladin is ok with high charisma for saving throws. Aura is really strong also team wise, so I would maybe prefere charisma over STR and CON.
Item wise you could compensate with belt of giant strength. Hill would be fine. It could carry you from STR16 to STR21.
You could also play low level paladin and go into casting. Then I would probably recommend paladin 2-3 and you are essentialy sorcerer with heavy armor (and shield) playing spells and cantrips. Also your spell list can be extended by some paladin spells.
Another way to play it is oathbreaker. It requires DMs approval but theme wise it is great and damage wise it is broken :)

I am curently in a Manyshot/Minicampaign which is an experiment to make a sort of Boss Rush and the DM let us make crazy combos and powergame a bit at level 7 though he leveled us up to 8 after the first Boss, and I'm playing a Multiclass Paladin Sorcerer (which I like to call Sorladin, rolls better off the tongue). He's currently Paladin 6/Sorcerer 2, for Paladin I took Oath of Glory and for Sorcerer I took Draconic Bloodline (I picked these for a mix of lore and because of a combo I saw from DnD Shorts). In terms of race I picked Variant Human so I could pick a Feat and for the Paladin Level 4 I picked a second Feat, these are Metamagic Adept and War Caster, because I'm going with the longsword plus shield Build. I've been having fun with it really, I do end up spending a lot of my resources in the Fights, and that's gonna bite me in the ass in the next session as we have to fight a two Bosses together (one of which apparently turned into a Mammoth) and we had to fight four elementals previously so I only have 1 1st-lvl spellslot and 1 2nd-lvl spellslot. There's a second detail that I might add, the DM let us choose a Rare or less Magic Item as our starting Build and I picked the Sun Blade, so I've flavoured my Sorladin as sort of a Sun Warrior Paladin of Pelor with Gold Draconic bloodline.
Btw, I like the idea of making a series of videos analyzing cool/unique multiclass combos. I don't know if you've made videos on combos other than charisma-based classes, but I have an idea that I'm planning to implement in one of my characters in a campaign who is a Tiefling Gloomstalker Ranger which I plan to Multiclass next level (I just got to level 5 now) into Twilight Cleric. For the time being, the combo I have made with him is making him a dual-wielder and using Zephyr Strike on the First Round, so I can move up to 70ft without triggering Oportunity Attacks and make 2 attacks (now at level 5, there would be 3), the last one with advantage to make an extra 2d8 of damage (one for the Gloomstalker feature, and the other one for the Zephyr Strike, which would be force damage).

Hear me out. I think a paladin 6 sorcerer 6 i believe is a 9th level caster so you would have 5th level slots. You could quicken fireball on yourself damaging enemies around you, then absorb elements with a fourth level slot. On the same turn you smite with a fifth level slot and you do an extra 4d6 fire and 6d6 radiant in addition to your normal damage. Not to mention any booming blade or green flame blade damageTaking into account the fireball you started with I think whatever boss the dm created is now well past the best by date.
