Pat Benatar has been a great help to me. Thank you for the opportunity to be a part of your life. You are a sweet and beautiful and so kind and so thoughtful. I owe you a drink and I hope that you will be able to enjoy it when it's done. I love you Pat Benatar forever. Your friend Iris.
My absolute favourite of all of Pat and Neil's songs. Beautiful, ethereal, strikingly tragic - showing all the deep, hard beauty of love. Tragedy with bliss. Ageless.
Agreed. What has always set this song apart is that it is a mature, well-crafted piece of pop music. I've always liked Pat Benatar because she has been a class act all the way. Sexy, but not tawdry or slutty.
This isn't my favorite Pat Benatar song, this is my favorite song, period. Her voice is beyond words. The guitar, the feel, everything about it is perfect. "No direction looks like home, oh where is my oasis?"
My favorite Pat Benatar song of all. So beautiful, so full of emotion and sung and played to perfection. Takes me to a sad dreamlike place "where no direction looks like home oh where is my oasis??"
Kenneth Newnum : I haven't heard that song since I was 13 years old. Now I'm 46. I kept thinking about it ,but couldn't remember it,until now! Love this song!
Kenneth Newnum It's my favorite, too. You described the reasons perfectly. It has a yearning to it that even sounds like the lonely Southwest. Perfectly played, sang and produced. The vocal solo slays me...
Such a beautiful song, and such a terrific album! I have listened to "Tropico" 100s of times, easily, since I bought it in 1984. Now, I let Alexa do the playing, but I still listen to the album in it's entirety. Highly recommended..
Stayed the night in a Wal Mart parking lot in Gallup, NM...woke up just before sunrise and drove to the Painted Desert in Arizona. Walked around the empty park while listening to this on my ipod...magical experience. Then went to Winslow, AZ and stood on the corner! ;)
one of her most underrated songs in my opinion, she had several that just never got enough attention - if you think you know how to love me also comes to mind.
I love this song so much... don't know why I've never seen this video lol I've been singing this song for 30 years. Definitely my favorite pat benatar song 😍
One of my dear friends used to listen to in the heat of the night, this is how I was turned on to Pat Benetar. Sadly my friend passed 20 years ago .. listening to pat gives me alot of comfort such a wonderful voice ....
I was 15 years old when i just fall in love with this song, without understanding one word it said. 44 years later, i listen to it and love it still so much.
One of Neil's best penned songs - and the atmosphere he brings to the piece with his great blues guitar playing. Hands down, the most haunting that his wife ever recorded.
This is what radio calls a 'deep track'. It deserves WAY more rotation than it gets, and when you DO hear it , you want more ....and more. Perfect fit for the video.
this song is mellow and would never have been a mega hit like many of her others.... not that it is not worthy...just not commercial enough. I personally LOVE it!!!!!
I really like this song. I have been a fan of Pat's since the early eighties and I recently bought this record. I think this is one of her best songs off of one of her best records.
I always loved this song. It's such a gentle and beautiful song💞 but there's a sadness to it that clutches one's heart, and the video matches perfectly. Certain parts of the video emphasizes this, such as the close up of the heart and the two glasses, where one is empty and the falling of the rose. It is clear that now she is alone. Such a touching and meaningful song and video.😔🧡
I love her in so many ways she is the epitome of voice and words, I truly feel all that she sings in so many ways and will always will look for the oasis!
Pat Benatar is my favorite singer. This song is the one I prefer on all her other beautiful songs! Pat has been in my heart since the age of 13, she rocked my adolescence and now 37 years later she did not leave me!! ;-) Too bad I'm French, I never had this chance and opportunity to see her in concert. Does she still have gigs?
I went to Namibia in 2019. Second least populated country in the world. It is composed of various kinds of deserts. We hired a tiny car and made our way out of the capital city Windhoek going to the Namib Naukluaft park and we almost immediately missed the turn. My son, the navigator kept silent not wanting me to panic. Awestruck, we drove through the most beautiful country side, with shining quartz stones scattered alongside the dirt track, warthogs and wild horses and the colours of a painted desert, those various shades or orange and pink and beige and we listened to music. And we listened to this song Painted Desert, a favourite of mine, as a chosen part of our play list for our trip. I cannot quite explain just how magical it was driving in a small car through that mystical desert landscape singing along or trying to, with me oblivious to the missed turn and my son secretly knowing we were on the wrong road. He eventually told me after I noted we had not seen any cars at all, that we had missed the turning, but not to worry, there was a place called Ruimte coming up we could just ask somebody there if we could still get to our destination if we continued. But there was nothing there, not a person, house or building. There was nothing but desert...and the realisation hit me...ruimte means space. There was nothing but empty space there.. We just laughed and laughed and laughed. And we kept going and the rough dirt track took us to the road which led to our destination having travelled about two hours longer than expected. So whenever I hear Painted Desert, I think of the missed turning, that resulted in one of the best days of my life.
One of My Favorites. I use to go sing in a Huge Covert that went under a Highway because the acoustics was amazing and made me sound good. I was 15 -17. I love her and always will....I so wish I had this in Karaoke .
Neil and Pat, I just saw the video of the Hall of Fame induction. Congrats! It would have been cool if you'd had more time to do something like this one, too -- to showcase that other side of your music.

I agree. Neil and Pat went in a different direction with this album, and it worked. Still some rock numbers, but they let her softer part shine...and it did!
What makes it such a great album is that it reflected a growing level of musical skill and maturity for Pat Benatar as a vocalist and her husband Neil as lead guitarist and composer. Not many rock/pop acts have been able to achieve this level of capability relatively soon after starting their careers. This song, and the hit 'We Belong' are reflective, introspective tracks, with deep emotion and meaning.
"I've done some thinking, now that you're not here. I know your reasons... And, they're still not clear. All I'm sure of, is what I've got to loose. I tried to be a better looser.... But it's just no use" . :-( That verse hit's my heart strings really hard this morning.
Very underrated 🤚🙆🏼♀️

@@kimberlythunert3068 I love that song as well. It tends to stick in my head.
Legend. This gal needs to be in the Rock hall of fame already.
yeah, what's the hall of fame without the queen of rock! Still performing and still awesome!
There should be a petition to get Pat into RR Hall of Fame. It's ridiculous that she's not.
yes, her and annie lennox.
Markis Anthony So true! So talented, and she and her hubby/lead guitarist wrote everything! What an amazing voice!
SyrDon X Great point. Annie is a genius with a rare talent.
Her best stuff hardly made it to airplay, love the deeper tracks.
Same...it deserves more love ❤️
Completely agree
Wonderful very underrated song, absolute stunning range of vocals.
Absolutely! One of those songs that gives me goose bumps every time I hear it - for almost 35 years!
Feel free to listen to French Soul singer Laura Mayne ' s recent version which is a great hommage to Benatar 🎹🎹🎹🎹🙏
Perhaps one of her best underrated tracks. Reminds me of how underrated her first single, If you think you now how to love me was. A classic!
I love that song too, huge fan for well decades
Pat is brilliant! I've loved this song for 25 years.

Pat and Neil are rock and roll royalty.
Underrated masterpiece 🥰
YES.
Listen to Laura Mayne ' s version with a piano / voice arrangement 🎹🙏🎙
Pat Benatar is a fantastic songstress. She is the sought of woman I could easily fall in love with.
She's got, what, an eight-octave range, I think? Truly beautiful voice, talent, the complete package.
She said that her range was 3.5 octaves, though on a few of her songs, she went to 5 octaves.
And I don't even have 1 octave. She's amazing!
I've heard that she has an 8 octave too!
opera training she has i think. not sure.
@@NikkiGloom I think I’ve heard that as well. Sure wouldn’t surprise me. Absolutely stunning voice.

she does it effortless i got all her stuff right from the start all on vinyl
absolute magical voice and still going strong go all the benatar fans
The best cut from the Tropico album... by far.
I agree with Outlaw Blues running a close 2nd

Myron Grombacher co-wrote this song which probably why it has such a unique and incredible drum part

How has this song not reached over a million yet is beyond me 😮
Can't believe how underrated this song is...it's like a lost gem 💎
This and her version of Wuthering Heights... two classics!
Three ladies that continue to rock my world: Pat Benatar, Ann & Nancy Wilson. Those ladies are rock royalty and have my loyalty forever.
