Remember, they would run out of videos, then for about 2 and a half hours, all you'd see on the screen, was that MTV Astronaut just floating through space. Then finally, they'd be back on, playing the same fourteen videos that they had....lol!
That solo is the definition of art. Its impossible to explain along the constructs of music theory. It remind me of the three Lines on My Face solos on Frampton Comes Alive. Intense, passionate melodic lines with creative phrasing is what it's all about.
Absolutely agree! I remember seeing this video back in high school, but for the longest time, all I remembered about it was Giraldo taking an absolutely killer solo, dressed as a shirtless sheik! Lol. A little goofy visually, but musically sharp as hell. Giraldo is one of rock's most unfairly overlooked players. He always played with great tone, taste, and artfully deployed technique. But feel was his real weapon; along with great vibrato and flawless timing, he just sold the feeling in the song. Shame about the headdress, but that was the 80's!
This just came to me. He was/is a great musician/composer/producer. However, being the guy behind a female rock singer, not in a band or even a male singer, I think has a lot to do with his lack of popular recognition. Too bad, really. Guitar players sure know him, though.
Pat's husband, Neal. Geraldo was the actual guitarist for all of Rick Springfield's studio recordings, that's why Jessie's girl"sounds just like Hit me with your Best shot, lol
Probably one of the most underrated Pat Benatar songs (there's only ONE reaction video on YT to it). I remember this video hitting MTV and instantly falling in love. Pat is truly just an AWESOME singer. Before auto-tune, every one her songs is ALL her; the range, the clarity, the POWER. She should be an inspiration to every Female singer out there, no matter their genre. And, before you think this is ENTIRELY about a beautiful woman, Neil Giraldo is definitely one of the most gifted and underrated guitar players of the 70s/80s. You can definitely hear a blues influence, in how he makes that axe Wail. One of the most unbeatable Duos in Rock History. Congratulations to you BOTH, for your awesome career, gifted song writing, and longevity.

Neil Giraldo is a phenomenal guitar player. Never too much. Never too little. Spot on. A short compact fluidity to his solos. A man who played guitar on Jessie's Girl by Rick Springfield
In case you millenials didn't know, back then, there were these mythical wonderful parts in rock songs known as 'the guitar solo' performed by the most capable guitar gods of the day.
What a concept, right? 🎸 My kids grew up listening to a lot of my music, though, so at least they understand the concept. Then again, they're not millenials...God I'm getting old.
This is my favorite song by her. Im sort of entranced by how the story of the song goes. A fight in between a married couple, and someone too zonked out on their liquid diet to the point to where they cant remember their vacation to Paris, and, the closing part, nobody can get in or out, almost like a fortress of solitude. Its a popular song, yet, not a popular song at the same time. Its one of the most underrated songs i have heard in some time.
Only Neil can get away with wearing that outfit in this video and still look cool as hell. He is still way way underrated as a guitarst...that solo is pure absolute perfection and my favorite of his....song is fantastic! Pat along with Chrissie Hynde (and others in 70s/80s) who completely brought women into the rock forefront where they should be. What a shame she is still not yet in the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame.

I agree with MRGXX64 that Pat Benatar should have been in the Rock N Roll of Fame before Madonna!! She is an awesome icon for Rock for such a long time!! Every time I watch this video or hear the song, it just gives me that inevitable vibe of something that's past saving, especially relationships and drags back to me that feeling that I've personally experienced of those endings, but still enjoy the song anyway
