Forspoken is exactly what I expect from studios today. Modern Games for Modern Audience with Modern Writing. If you've not tried them yet, do Baldur's Gate 1 and 2 after veilgaurd if you haven't yet for palette cleansers. They show their age but they're still good games.
I think it really is something special when a developer tries to make something for the "modern audience" and to be woke, but turns out to be the most racist and stupid thing ever, which then bombs like nobody's business.

Every playthrough I have seen makes the same, infuriating point in the beginning: why can't you take the MONEY?! It's such a sign of how terrible the writing is; not only do the other criminals (other than the MC, that is) not do the logical thing and just kill Frey in her sleep and take the money, or heck, just take the money, but no, they have to set the place on fire (garunteeing that the money they are after will be lost forever). Then, the developers put the money, the key to Frey's freedom from (at least this particular) poverty and want, right in front of her... and she can't pick it up. Not for any clever reason; it isn't that she hid it so well that she can't get it out during the fire. It's not that in the mad scramble a fiery piece of debris falls on her and snags the bag, spilling the money, which she must helplessly watch burn (watching her future burn), while helplessly cradling the cat. Nope. She just can't pick it up. Because... she can't. She can't sling this small duffle bag over her shoulder while looking for her cat in a burning building. Honestly, if I had bought this game, this is where I would have returned it, because the moment you are looking at the bag of money, and the game tells you that you can't pick it up, you know exactly how crap the rest will be.
They wanted to make a movie but were forced to make a videogame. Their response was to remove player agency entirely and force them to watch their interactive cutscene
"This is a western isekai. Why would you do that, leave isekais for the Japanese" But... Forspoken was made by Japanese developer/publisher. It's actually impressive that they managed to make a Japanese game so.. Unjapanese (Besides the isekai plot)
Everyone reacts the same to the money at the start. Just one arm the bag on the way out of the room. A proper writer wouldnt have even shown or made the bag interactable in that moment. She just wakes up panics and gets Homer then looks back to her room engulfed in flames. Them making the player feel like they are controlling an idiot from the start forshadows how bad the game is. Shes so down and society is against her...but she has a gym bag full of money and a judge just gave her a get out of jail free card...so which is it lol. This game made me really appreciate silent protagonist in games.

Games are suppose to be interactive, it's a bad sign when playing Forspoken it just feels better to stop playing it. The dialog wants to have choices matter, but it's either Choose dialog in order, Choose All Dialog, or just skip dialog. The entire magic world is just grey and brown. The combat is walk away and spam shoot, you don't have to think. The protagonist is straight up not just "bad" or "ugly", but a special blend of terrible and illogical. She makes no sense and it's obvious she is just a puppet janked around for whenever the scene calls for her to there, just to have whiplash and act completely different in the next scene. Tl;dr just everything is just a little or lot wrong and it makes the whole experience insufferable, wasted potential that just flopped..
Does this mean you’re playing Dustborn as well? You have to be all in to prepare for the literal slop of Veilguard. That’s the final boss of woke DEI games of 2024 and Forspoken won’t be enough 😂.
I was really excited for this game like a year before it was launched, I was about to pre order it. Then life happened and when I had time to think again, it was like 2 months after launch, watched some gameplays and let me tell you, this MC drives you to kill her (kinda like people did with Abby of TLOU2). My main complain is that she has -0 charactee development (someone needs to introduce that concept to whoever made the characters in this game), when you think she's about to get it, she says or does something against it. The one moment she gets her head out her ass it's not because she improved as a person, but because she finds out something that in her head forces her to do what she didn't want to.
I'll say just this. Call me naive, but as a Wow Vanilla/Classic player I always wanted to avoid falling into the temptation of playing Wow Retail because of the risk of losing my sanity over its brainless stories, detached UI, and over-simplistic gameplay of a 4yo kid level. I still have the same exact fear, and I've gladly embraced it on purpose to remind myself to never play it. All of this to say; I hope you won't start to get corrupted and get used to the abysmal low creativity level of this game. Stay sane by keeping a copy of any old OG game on the side to play and heal yourself from this degeneracy. P.S: "Can I get run over by a car?" :D Also the sound effect at 7:41 gave me Xena vibes, and loved every bit of that
It's a game for lonely ppl. Character speaks to you all the time being annoying so much...A little bit like Days Gone, but this one is much more insufferable. I cann't write more because I am so fed up of shadowbans from YT...No freedom of speech anymore
