Like I've mentioned before when MoistKritical played this, it's like they couldn't decide whether Frey was a poor black child that needed to escape to a better world or a spoiled rich girl that needed to be humbled when she got isekai'd into another world, so they just went with...both...as if those two character archetypes were in any way compatible with each other...

Buuuuuuut, let's be real, there will be a few rounds of layoffs and firings which will lead to; how did that one article put it; "make the studio lose its identity". So in other words: Getting absorbed will "intrinsically kill" the studio.
My favorite part is when she looked directly into the camera and says "If only marginalized voices like mine were given a platform on Disney+ Hulu streaming service!" Truly empowering.

to be unreasonably fair to the writers, I've heard a few times that the devs for whatever reason (probably time/cost constraints) basically scrapped the entire original story. But that doesn't really affect the dialog, does it? Even if we got to see "their true vision" it still would've been quippy, self referential, marvel comic tier dialog that insults the audience's intelligence every chance it gets. It'd be one thing if characterization didn't make sense, if the plot didn't make sense, but Frey and Cuff at least spoke like normal people. I mean Cuff is supposed to be a kind of arch angel summoned to exact revenge, but he talks like a teenage fanfiction writer's Dr. Who self insert character. And Frey is just insufferably self absorbed ONTOP of being a fucking Chosen One mary sue.
They will do every sidequest, every dlc, they will commentate over all the trailers, they will do readings of the most popular fan fictions, and they will get every achievement before this ends.

What homeless people you all seen with a phone?? I work on a campus and I see and speak to plenty of homeless folk and they ain't whipping their phones out like her. Near the ship yard in my area their is a place where people can apply for temporary job and they don't lend out phones nor track phones and I seen the process to get a track phone with reasonable minutes on it good luck filling that paperwork. Now I could be ignorant but in Virginia and some of the time I spent in North Carolina plus Washington I didn't not see any homeless people with phones.

Judging by Square Enix past cynical behaviour, the bad writing probably comes from: 1) Following a story structure the more mechanically and organically as possible, to the point it becomes detrimental to the story itself and makes no sense. 2) wanting to construct a deeply relatable character for the younger demographic based on what is cool on twitter. Kamala Khan was written in the Avengers to be a proxy of the player (the ultimate Marvel movie fan, so a cool poc Redditor with superpowers who write fanfic and can hack Tony stark). This is aimed at Twitter demographic. Poor, can't afford rent, can afford luxury clothes, dress in cool clothing, has a cat, the cat is female but has a male name, lives in New York and new York is a cool city according to non-americans, is black, was in a gang, has Tumblr speech, etc. This is less "oh the writers are so dumb" and more "oh the writers are actual psychopaths". Like it is horrible the more you think about it, it is like a Frankenstein monster of trending concepts.
That's the fun thing, it basically is. Square Enix was reluctantly convinced to let a bunch of Westerners fully handle the story as a means of reaching a wider/broader audience in the west, while the Japanese branch focused on developing the actual game, and this is what they got out of it; 100% North American story telling 🔥 🙏 🔥

They could have had it where she put the bag in a different room before the fire, or the money could've already been on fire, seriously anything would've felt more logical than just the protagonist standing next to the bagging taking time to say how she doesn't have time to pick it up.
But then you wouldn't learn how GOOD of a person she is! They put it there so people would try to pick it up and go "aww, she cares more about the cat, what a good person she is!" Which just makes it worse

to be unreasonably fair to the writers, I've heard a few times that the devs for whatever reason (probably time/cost constraints) basically scrapped the entire original story. But that doesn't really affect the dialog, does it? Even if we got to see "their true vision" it still would've been quippy, self referential, marvel comic tier dialog that insults the audience's intelligence every chance it gets. It'd be one thing if characterization didn't make sense, if the plot didn't make sense, but Frey and Cuff at least spoke like normal people. I mean Cuff is supposed to be a kind of arch angel summoned to exact revenge, but he talks like a teenage fanfiction writer's Dr. Who self insert character. And Frey is just insufferably self absorbed ONTOP of being a fucking Chosen One mary sue.

I'm so lost for how her room is meant to be interpreted. So she snuck in from outside implying she can't use the front door because she's a squatter. She then covers the window once again implying she can't let people know she's there. She then walks 2 steps over to a massive open window and stands directly in front of it. Why did she cover the stair well side then?! And the boys pointed out she shouldn't have electricity if she's squatting so how's that work?
You can steal electricity, that's probably why it's on fire. I doubt tho, it would make too much sense.

What homeless people you all seen with a phone?? I work on a campus and I see and speak to plenty of homeless folk and they ain't whipping their phones out like her. Near the ship yard in my area their is a place where people can apply for temporary job and they don't lend out phones nor track phones and I seen the process to get a track phone with reasonable minutes on it good luck filling that paperwork. Now I could be ignorant but in Virginia and some of the time I spent in North Carolina plus Washington I didn't not see any homeless people with phones.

Judging by Square Enix past cynical behaviour, the bad writing probably comes from:
1) Following a story structure the more mechanically and organically as possible, to the point it becomes detrimental to the story itself and makes no sense.
2) wanting to construct a deeply relatable character for the younger demographic based on what is cool on twitter.
Kamala Khan was written in the Avengers to be a proxy of the player (the ultimate Marvel movie fan, so a cool poc Redditor with superpowers who write fanfic and can hack Tony stark).
This is aimed at Twitter demographic. Poor, can't afford rent, can afford luxury clothes, dress in cool clothing, has a cat, the cat is female but has a male name, lives in New York and new York is a cool city according to non-americans, is black, was in a gang, has Tumblr speech, etc.
This is less "oh the writers are so dumb" and more "oh the writers are actual psychopaths". Like it is horrible the more you think about it, it is like a Frankenstein monster of trending concepts.
The beginning of this has "Marvel's Avengers by Square Enix" energy. Like when Kamlala "big hands" Khan talks about punching down
That's the fun thing, it basically is. Square Enix was reluctantly convinced to let a bunch of Westerners fully handle the story as a means of reaching a wider/broader audience in the west, while the Japanese branch focused on developing the actual game, and this is what they got out of it; 100% North American story telling 🔥 🙏 🔥
