Also could you please do a video on scout Harding in the future?! I went back and saw her interactions in Inquisition and wow she’s a completely new character in veilguard and not for the better! Now she’s quirky and adorkable 🤦🏻‍♂️ and in inquisition she’s a level headed experienced scout! You can use my post for reference it has some details about her. [DAV ACT 2 SPOILERS] Just my opinion, but I don’t like this version of Scout Harding. Bit of a long post, but let me explain. Originally I had planned to romance Harding as I was a fan of her in Inquisition in one PT my inquisitor flirted with her every chance I had, and got the scene in trespasser where viviene asks you about Harding. Since starting this game I genuinely don’t like Harding something felt off about her. she comes across as fake?! Like she’s forcing herself to be this quirky adorkable type character which she never was that in Inquisition, she acts like she’s a rookie who hasn’t experienced crazy things or been in bad situations, but obviously that’s not true she was in the Inquisition for many years and while not directly in the main party she witnessed many crazy things such as demons, spirts, red templars, venatori, dragons, and Corypheus, etc. I thought maybe I was misremembering so I went back and watched video of Harding interactions with the Inquisitor In it she’s much more level headed, and even when flirting while a bit flustered, she’s still pretty calm and rational about it not acting like a teenager talking to their middle school crush. I think in DAV she tries to be too much like Bellara, and while Bellara’s personality seems more natural due to her being Dalish,and spending most of her time alone tinkering. Harding feels like she’s forcing it, you would expect her to be way more hardened,less shaken by things, and have a veteran mindset by this point after everything she has experienced. I’m not asking for her act like Tranquil or anything, but at least more in line to how she was in Inquisition. Maybe it’s just me idk, but it don’t like Harding in DAV. I’m also really disappointed you can’t have the option to have Harding/Inquisitor quasi romance mentioned in the game, it would’ve been interesting to see how that would play out maybe Harding’s romance would be more difficult to achieve as she’s still has feelings for the Inquisitor and when meeting him there’s some tension between you but ultimately duty comes first so you have to put differences aside in order to save the world. www.reddit.com/r/dragonage/s/DBAyhQxisM

Merril has always been one of my favorite companions and romances in dragon age! Also it’s weird how now the Eluvians are fixed with science elf tech? Whereas Merril uses blood magic to fix the Eluvians it’s not really clear anywhere.😵‍💫

after all this, and the baffling and stupid "illuminati" post credit scene, I legit feel my love for the franchise is dead. I was starting a new playthrough of Origins, but after finishing veilguard, I just don't wanna pay anymore. Everything I loved about this setting is gone, and all that was has been retroactively tampered and ruined.

Excellent foray into video essays; though, I do hope you make it your own. This format you have borrowed is very widespread, so adding something of your own is called for to help you stand out. My thoughts are to keep the camera piece, so that you are on the screen narrating and can physically express thoughts as well. Zoom the camera in more to exclude the background, so that the discussion remains focused on you, your words, and your feelings towards what you are expressing- if you wish to make it a more personal experience that is.

What Bioware should've done was simply make a new IP instead, and then be honest about the audience they're catering towards. Because clearly we were not the target audience in mind when they made this. Having safe and sanitised writing pleases nobody, that's not what Dragon Age is about, especially given that Dragon Age has always veered more towards grim dark narratives.

I know this is a little off topic because he didn't write merrill but what the hell happened to Patrick Weekes, this guy went from writing Tuchanka and Rannoch, Mordin Solus and Tali to being the head writer for this failure of a game and the character writer for Taash, the worst companion in Bioware History! It just doesn't seem natural for a writer to lose that much skill in ten years.

The sanitation and gaslighting is a very common busines practice with modern companies. They hate the foundation the series was built in and sneakily recreate the lore in hopes that the audience will go with it. This is why fandoms are dying, they destroy the lore and rules, and make it clear that they no longer want their old hardcore passionate fanbase. Its sad how many franchises have falled because of evil people like this.

I do agree with a lot of your points, but I don't think that the reveal of the Old Gods being vessels of the elven pantheon was a retcon. Flemeth was always able to turn into a dragon and when she was revealed in DA2 to be someone important to the Dalish--and then later revealed to be Mythal herself--this became inevitable. It was theorized for years that there was a connection between the Old Gods of Tevinter and the pantheon of the Ancient Elves. This, at least, feels like the direction that David Gaider had in mind when he was lead writer of the IP. I mean, he even hinted in the past that there was a connection between the Old Gods and either the elven pantheon or the Forgotten Ones--who are still part of Ancient Elven mythology and supposedly interacted with the pantheon according the Dalish tradition. That does, however, further highlight how much the blight/taint doesn't feel like "the corrupted dreams of Titans" when darkspawn are beholden to the songs of the Old Gods who are now revealed to be extensions of the Elven gods who were enemies of the Titans. That bit of lore does feel very much like the new writing team coming up with their own ideas and disregarding everything previously established...and even what's explained/established IN THIS GAME. (I'm not going to bother ranting about how the Antivan Crows have been watered-down to be more palatable because doing so just makes me so very angry on behalf of Zevran who CONSISTENTLY gets the short end of the stick when it comes to post-DAO content, including the DLCs for that game. DA2 was the only one that treated him with the same respect as the other romanceable companions, and that's if you ignore how the rushed production of the game messed up his face. Also, Fenris's backstory is being disrespected by this PG version of Tevinter.) Also, according to the wiki the Arishok (our Sten from DAO) was injured during the Antaam's defection and no longer has his title. Which is the only way that they could explain him not putting a stop to all of this nonsense the Antaam are doing. But you do still raise a decent point about the geological proximity. Why aren't the Antaam being hunted down by someone from the Qunari? This should look more like a Qunari civil war spilling over into Antiva and Rivain instead of Antiva and Rivain being occupied by the Antaam unopposed by other Qunari. In fact, if the other Qunari were giving the Antaam trouble, it would give more reason for them to be desperate enough to break their deep-rooted distrust of magic enough to make a deal with the blighted elven gods out of desperation...but it doesn't feel desperate in the game. Just run-of-the-mill power-hungry. Andraste being a vessel of Mythal--much like the Old Gods revelation--was actually theorized years ago. People picked up on that because of how Flemeth reacted to seeing Aveline, who is implied to be a descendent of Andraste. Maybe the Maker is more involved than DAV is admitting or maybe it's the lyrium in the mountain that her ashes were in, just like Oghren pointed out way back in DAO. As for the Forgotten Ones not appearing...Dalish tradition does say that the Dread Wolf trapped them and the elven pantheon in two different places. We don't know if the Void is on the other side of the Veil the way the Fade is. But it does feel like they've been forgotten. Especially since the missives at the end of the game suggests that EA wants to wipe the slate clean and do a hard reboot of the world in probably the most infuriating way. (Edit: Please disregard this entire paragraph. Bellara's companion questline reveals that the Forgotten Ones were not forgotten by the devs, as one of them is actually a boss fight in her personal questline.) Origins was the best game, hands-down. It's the one that I revisit the most and enjoy the most. But...DA2 and DAI are more Dragon Age games than Veilguard will ever be. Editing to add that a DAI codex entry reveals that there's an eighth constellation that may represent an Old God who was struck from record. Maybe it's Mythal, maybe it's Maybelline, I don't trust EA to ever give us an answer for this question.

I remember in origins female qunari's werent warriors then it gets changed to they stop being called female's once they're chosen as warriors I also remember qunari's not being opened to other races but in da2 that changed i never understood these changes Personally even though da2 brought on these retcons. i liked the story of it

Maybe I just don’t understand the lore, but I’m struggling with several points here. Don’t get me wrong, Veilguard was a shadow compared to its predecessors, but: Antiva doesn’t have a true monarchy and has always been ruled by the threat of the Crows. They have been both protector and threat to their own country since its origins. We don’t meet the entire faction of the Crows in Veilguard, just Teia’s/ the 7th talon’s Casino base. That isn’t the entirety of a faction or its ideals. The Antaam are literally the military of the Qun. What army is going to bring them back if they’ve defected? Sten isn’t mentioned because he isn’t alive in different world states. The Venatori are literally a bunch of insane blood mages much like the slavers/blood mages in Origins. The Venatori are powerful enough to take over Minrathous. That sounds like a majority of the imperium turning towards slavery and blood magic against the Shadow Dragons and House Pavus’s wishes (a revolution of anti-slavery has been occurring the last 10 years.) And the blight has always been linked in codexes to the black city, AKA Arlathan/AKA the elven gods. It has literally been a theory that the Evanuris are the Old Gods since Origins. Discovering that they could speak through them and still corrupt the world isn’t retconning anything previously developed. The origins of the blight being titan related and the evanuris using that power for themselves also tracks. I wouldn’t be surprised if the Calling is actually a way for the titans to get their revenge, telling the darkspawn where to go to find the next old god, kill it, and effectively kill the associated evanuris in the process, as even they wouldn’t be capable of surviving indefinitely in the Fade without their immortality. The blight happening is literally just collateral damage.

Dragon Age Origins I believe remains as one of the best story driven games out there. If not then definitely the best available to consoles. I as a kid didn't really understand things happening in the game. But there was so much I still loved about the game. The characters and the horrifying threat of the Darkspawn. Seeing these ancient ruins that look amazing and wondering about the story they hold. Some of my most memorable moments are the Shane mission where you get the Cat Demon lady you have to deal with. I always thought it'd of been cool if you could have a choice for what companion you want. Like a mission where you need to side with Shane or take on the Demon Lady possessing the girl. Allowing you to pick the good side or bad side. Maybe have a personal quest that would have you deciding her fate. Turning her neutral/good ( I like to imagine this would be the toughest) or allowing her to continue the possession. I also loved the idea of the girl still being around. Having moments where they switch in who's in control. I could easily see there being a character you come across later in the series that is a teenager/Young Adult who comes across as odd to the average person, but is a girl having to deal with an annoying demon. I just imagine a bickering married couple or best friends. They don't hate each other, but don't show it at all. I still remember falling in love with Orzammar. There was something truly fun and amazing with the game. Wasn't such a huge fan of the repeating interior of the Deep-Roads. But I still have fond memories of seeing the lava filled pit below. I always loved the lore of the Deep-Roads and always thought a well put together game could've been fun, as the Grey Warden leading the other Warden's and armies deep into the Deep Roads to try and finish them off. Reclaiming lost land and so on to the dwarves. My favorite idea was coming across Dwarven cities that had been cut off ever since the collapse, but still alive. Managing to keep the DarkSpawn back. But never being able to go out and search. Maybe having close knit communities between other Dwarven Cities as well. Like the Dwarves we know aren't anything like the Dwarves of old. They've changed and have become very close to the surface despite that being something they'd hate to hear. While these new Dwarves have managed to keep hold to old believes and traditions. The other one isn't a good memory. I just remember being at the wolve camp and getting lost in the woods trying to do the stupid quests as well. Constantly dying and so on. Plus the part where you fall asleep. By far my least favorite part of the entire game and I purely think it's just from a bad experience as a kid. Edit: Truly sad to see how they ended the series on such a bad note. Will probably be widely thought of as not part of the actual Dragon Age series. Kind of like how Mass Effect Andromeda isn't really played when people play through all Mass Effect games.

my biggest issue with new DA games is the absolute mistreatment of grey wardens. while they werent always trusted or wanted, they are 100% necessary for fighting darkspawn. they arent just extremely resistant to the taint but become superhuman after the joining. strength, better senses, and the ability to literally have a darkspawn radar. yet everygame since origins they are swept to the side and unecessary to win. ridiculous.

Where’s the Warden and there son?! And why is she starting to dress and act like her mom? She never wanted to be like Flemith.

I remember when Eluvians used to be this extremely rare ancient artifact. Only a small handful survived thousands of years to still exist in present day, and even less that were still intact and operational. And only a few people who deeply studied elf history even knew about anymore. Now they're just everywhere, all over massive cities, everyone knows about them, they aren't special or even rare. Everyone uses them to travel around, most of them still work.
