This might be the happiest episode of Finnegans Garage ever...not only do you get to unwrap your built-to-spec, vintage paint, completely custom hull that you still get to build, but your wife likes it and tells you to “hurry up and get it done.” Amen
Worked for Checkmate and Baja. And I've always loved peoples' reactions when I tell them that you finish the paint jobs FIRST, then build the boat inside the paint.... But we always laid a coat of black gel coat over the color gel before applying the first layer of fine glass cloth. That tends to allow the colors to be more vibrant (think of the black matrix of a TV screen the dots appear on or putting perforated wrap on a vehicle. It always works better than over a lighter base..)
Not only is the paint first but you're building it "backwards", you don't get to see the front side or surface while laying it out, and it's got to be right the first time, no do overs, the guys that know how to do this got some mad skills.

Love the way you're planning your projects around your family, both on the road and on the water. There's too many people out there concentrating on themselves and not those around them. It surely will give you so much more pleasure to share your experiences with people you love. Bravo to you Mr Finnegan, Bravo.
I love the shrink fast boat wrap... The propane torch they make doubles as a shop grill. Wrapping boats is a cool process, but the witchcraft involved in finishing a boat from the clearcoat in is pretty mind blowing! Whoever preps that mold has got a lot riding on them...
Also, apply yourself to your schooling. Get a good job so you can afford your toys. If you don't know what you want to do yet? Try a bunch of things. No shame in trying something, and finding out you don't like it. Learn and grow.
Here's an idea for a project for you.. Take that side of the garage you are working on the boat in, and install and overhead gantry crane system. Rails along the ceiling on the side with a rolling crane system to pick the engines and stuff... easier than a cherry picker for pulling engines up and over the transom of the boats.

I used to own a mini with 10 inch wheels, same diameter as those trailer wheels but with only a 165 tyre. That thing went 78mph flat out just fine.
