  • Episode 165 of Mike Finnegan's Garage gives an exclusive look at the newly renovated 1957 Chevy Bel Air that David Newbern bought during our cross-country road trip. We drove from Georgia to California and back in Lincoln Hawk, a Chevy Kodiak enclosed ramp truck. On the way back home we stopped in Big Spring, Texas, and Dave bought this rough but really cool '57 Chevy, which had just the right amount of patina on the body.
In this episode you'll watch as he restores the chassis of his other '57 Chevy using parts from Speedway Motors and then slides fresh chassis under his newly acquired body. Powering the car is the original 454ci V8 Big-Block Chevy engine take from the OG Roadkill ramp truck and that is backed by a Silversport Transmissions six-speed Tremec manual gearbox kit. The Chevy is also wearing one of Blasphemi's original sets of Coker chrome steelie wheels! Check it out!

He worked at General Motors and would race it after work out on the Grapevine hwy or wherever. The motor was bought out of the back of a pickup truck at a local bar. The left rear quarter window was broken during a technical dispute at the old Forest Hill dragstrip. The glass was held together with race stickers ie: hays, clay smith etc.

How good is it that when Dave is powerwashing the frame his kid is playing in the mud and water below it, love that !

Great content 👌 👏 seeing Dave's son reminds me of the first car I restored with my dad, it is a harbor blue 57' hardtop 283 .080 over with a 4 speed! Still in the family today and screaming on drum brakes and manual steering... but its what we could do 24 years ago! Wow thats making me feel old now! Ha ha... hopefully Dave's boy can have a simular story someday!

Just like the 57... I'm green.... With envy. I have wanted one my entire life. But it makes me so happy to see someone else to be able to get a car of their dreams and bring it to life. Mike you guys post content. I'm glad I found the channel

Looking at the thumbnail, I half expected Derek from VGG to show up saying "A fella thinks we can get this thing running and driving by the end of the day... probably not." Looking good so far Dave!!

Love the fact your are creating another hot rod fan who is helping you every step of the way. This is where our dreams start.. in the garage with our dads, not online.

We all could have time for these things. Actually, we all could afford these things too if it was our only passion. That's what makes channels like this so good. It's the inspiration.

Love 57s . bought one in 1967 at Chevy dealership, 2door sedan black with white top. Someone put a 300-327 in it 3 speed and traded it in . I bought for 350.oo ,put a set of Fenton wheels and boy did she look sharp. Like your video.

It’s great to see that car get back on the road. I’m back and forth between Ft Worth and Midland multiple times a week. I’ve seen that car sit in the same spot in Big Spring for 12 years.
