I Drove The Worst Dodge Daytona Wing Car To A Car Show: Reactions Were Insane!

- Episode 267 of Mike Finnegan's Garage is a fun one. After doing a bit of suspension tuning on my Toyota 2JZ-swapped '68 Charger we road trip it and my '69 Charger to the local Caffeine and Octane car show here in Georgia. We wanted to see what the people thought of the ratty muscle car and so we mounted a camera on the windshield and let it roll for over an hour to capture folks' impressions of the cardboard radiator ducting, ratchet strap battery hold down and rusty body. Boy was that exciting! lol.
Thanks for watching! Please comment below and subscribe to the channel if you want to see more of this fake Dodge Daytona.

The old timer nailed it... he said it looked like you just had a bunch of parts and thru them into a car.😂
SOUTHERNER is a native or inhabitant of the South; especially : a native or resident of the southern part of the U.S..
Yea he knew what was going on . Budget built street ripper . It's my style as well . Just barely holding together but nothing a welder can not fix.
And wasted a lot of time to make a pile of shit,
I don't understand this "I like rust" or "it's patina" car building crap! It's just ugly junk, lazy shjt. You could fix this car with pieces of sheet metal & spray can paint it to at Least make it decent! Good grief Charlie Brown! 😏
@@BillyJoeJimBob28 cool opinion bj
People will pull just absolute nonsense out of their ass to sound smart in front of strangers
you gotta keep moving at these events or some twat will start talking to you!
I can’t go to events like that because there is so bs it’s annoying
I stopped going to mine because when I'd try to talk technical to Boomers, they'd just blow me off because "I'm young and obviously don't know anything". It's definately not what it use to be sadly
@@turtle2448thomas Not many of we 'boomers' would DARE say that to you young feller,, I'm 77 and ALWAYS keep my eyes and ears OPEN when you youngsters talk. I am smart enough to know YOU know more about current car stuff (computers, ECU's, etc., etc.) than I will EVER KNOW or understand,, so not many of us would say you're "young and obviously don't know anything" ,, never. 🙂
@@quickdeuce Oh trust me sir, I know. There are a select few of you that will carry on an actual conversation with us and be happy to be a part of it and I love it. However, the vast majority is not like that, sadly. I do miss going to my local shows. Maybe I'll attend a few this year
It is funny to watch and listen to what people say about it. lol. Gotta love the "specialists" who are completely wrong. lol.
That's fine, they'll learn eventually and it's good to see people coming out.
That is siiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiick lmao
Really opened my eyes to how fast misinformation can spread. Only person that got it right was the old timer at the end.
@@Earley405poor thing sounded like she didn't have her teeth in lol
It is better to keep your mouth closed and let people think you are a fool than to open it and remove all doubt.
Hysterical !!! the comments from the experts was the best parts . "thats a Hemi " "I dont think the wing is high enough "
I love the velocity stack just hanging on for dear life at the end. Such a nice touch to the dumpster fire-esque
OMG!! Leaving those cameras running so you can listen to the comments was genius!! There was a line from the Little Rascals when Dickie tells Stymie not to show his ignorance!!😂😂😂 Some of those guys should have taken heed!! A Roadrunner? Wow!
Hey look, this guy must have driven his Roadrunner over at DAYTONA!
Lol..and totally forgot about the Superbird.
Someone mentioned "He's probably mocking it up." and I thought of the perfect name for this car. Mockingbird!
if it was a Plymouth that would be a perfect name.
I love that automated height adjustable velocity stack. Must be a old nascar trick.
It's custom!😂
Actually the Mazda 787B had something like that
Smokey Yunick did it first.......... i heard that at a Caffeine and Octane one time...
Some of those reactions were priceless 😂😂😂 Thanks for taking us along Mike 👍💪
yeah, All 2 minutes of them in a 25min video.
I find it hilarious that Joe Dirt had a real Daytona and Finnegan doesn’t. 🤣
I have the Joe Dirte Daytona. Adam Sandler bought me the car. Adam based Joe Dirt on me. It's supposed to be an episode of Graveyard Cars.
I know right movie people get the real deal but ant really theirs it get put in a movie then brought back to the original owner
Joe dirt wasn't down with clownin if you remember right... 🙂
@@JonStein-mu5ebno, you do not have joe dirt’s Daytona.
@@megaaggron9778 I own it, what proof have you that I don't? Technically it's not in my possession but it's with Mark Worman.
Well Mike I think you've captured all the brilliance of caffeine and octane with your GoPros mounted on your roadrunner slash Daytona.
He should add a me-meep horn for irony. 😆 lol 😆
Joe dirt is your spirit animal, for sure, finnegan. Love the new Staff!
You should take it to a Mopar show so it gets all the hate, just kidding. I do think you should have Birdsong patch all the rust and put a plug in the rear window. I mean it's going to be parked until you use it again anyway, might as well be unrusting itself...
Birdsong is the man when it comes to rust repair
Great anthropology this! That one guy nailed it: "It's almost like he had everything all ready before he got the car". Great stuff!
Looks like any ten year old car here in Canada.
Midwest too
I got 2011 Corolla and the only rust is on the trunk. That bad boy has done 12 winters here in Sudbury Ontario.
@@TheMlc4lifeI follow a guy from Sudbury, here on YT, Marcel.
You mean TWO year old car....
My 13 month old Nissan kicks has rust on the hood and roof.
Of all the accolades, I'm betting you had never been someone's juke box hero until now. Excellent as always Mike.
i did enjoy that comment. :)
😂😂😂"That thing gotta hemi in it" people's reactions are priceless 😂
I always get a kick out of non car people trying to sound like real car people. Always makes for some good chuckles. 😅
"That aint a Hemi, it's a 440"
@@GenX...MCMLXV "Whoah, that's a drag racing intake manifold" 🤣🤣
I love how you squeezed "street legal" & "roadworthy" into the same sentence 😂
Back in the '80s, my neighbor had a '69 Dodge Dart GT with practically the same motor. Built 440 C.I., dual quads and a tunnel ram! Wheels and tires, too. That thing was a 9 second car (one time, LOL).
If the windshield footage was an interview I wouldn’t hire anyone
the old man knew you had everything before you put it in lmaoo
Mike that was awesome, perfect how you recorded the crowd that flocked to the D Fire, very entertaining 👍👍👍👍👍✅✅✅✅✅
The guy who said the original wings were higher, I just pictured you guys making the wing a foot or two higher where it was way above the roof line so the car looks even more off
That velocity stack flopping around would make me laugh the entire time while driving this car. 😂 you are the best ever Mike!
Mike - It looks cool from 30 feet but from 29 feet not so much!
That had me rollin! In the words of one of my car heroes Derik Biere "Moses sandles! that "Daytona" is cool"
I gotta watch again. Kids were talking to me during the show and I missed some of the comments.
The guy saying the velocity tack was made from a tuba cracked me up.
Love these builds, who needs a trailer queen when you have classic American ingenuity, class and quality like those two Mopars!
It's the Day-faux-na!!!
Time for the obligatory Sunday episode of _Sillier with Finnegan_ - a.k.a. "Georgia's Yeti Trolls the Local Car Show, Round #2"
You ought to call that thing the General Sea - looks as if it was pulled out of one.
Jokes aside, consider repairing the rusted torque boxes and rocker panels. Those door gaps remind me of the sag you find on convertibles. That ladder frame might not be connected to the original unibody, after all.
The loose velocity stack made me laugh out loud.
Love everyone's reaction to dumpster fire. I have a Ratrod and people react almost the same when they see her. the end of the video is a classic Roadkill moment with something falling off the car. 😆
The reactions should let you know, not only what you and your work mean to this industry, but also what a wonderful influence they have been. The Ed Roth of our generation.
Thanks for watching!
OMG the dude with the water bottle LOL I straight up was looking for Edna to walk up 🤣
😂😂😂
Absolutely brilliant. Great example of don't get it right, just get it running. I love your rust collection 😅
The more time goes the more I appreciate how spot on GTA NPC dialogue is. 😆
Really outdid yourselves on this one! Laffed till tears a couple of times! Thanks,
Awesome! I need to get my rusty 1971 Pontiac Lemans GT-37 on the road, as you did with this fine gem! It doesn't matter if it is restored or not. Just get it on the road!
As David Freiburger always says, "Don't get it right, just get it going."
@@Hippie459MN
Yes sir!!!!
You two make a great team thank you for taking us along for the ride much love from New Zealand guy's
I don't think iv ever laughed so hard watching people's reactions 😂😂😂😂
Haha, both them cars look so awesome on the highway next to all the Corollas!
That was great. I love the reaction of people. Thanks for sharing. Great video.
I was waiting for velocity stack nut to fall into the motor.
@20:41,, "Ohh my GAWD,, this guy's my HERO!",, and there you have it Mike,, that comment pretty much sums it up,, Son,, we couldn't have said it better. 🙂
Always hilarious to listen to the "Professional " details from people. Love that you did that!!
The guy @20:30 is the only one at the car show who seems to know anything about cars
Funny having Caffeine and Octane at Towne Center Mall. 20 years ago, It was Caffeine & Octane every weekend and even weeknights on Barrett. I spent my teens & 20’s (I’m 38 now) on Barrett. It was our staging area for Lots of crazy times and memories. Cobb police would chase us around kicking us out of Starbucks, Galyans/Dicks, Sports Authority, US Play, Media Play, etc. weeknights were usually chill out at starbucks. We used to get about 4-6 cars to pace traffic and do rolling runs at 1am on 575 between Bells Ferry & hwy 92, get on at Chastain Rd, pace traffic through the curve, then as soon as you crossed the Hawkins Store rd bridge and it straightened up, that’s where you start running usually a 2nd gear pull up to about 100-120mph then get off at 92, turn around and do the same thing going southbound. Switches from Cobb to Cherokee county there in that stretch so it wasn’t patrolled much except occasionally GSP. Good times… I had my Turbo’d Honda Accord 😂🤣😂. Our “crew” actually got back together about 6-7 years ago for a “reunion” at Starbucks. We’re all married with kids now.
"what's going down" is the 1/4-20 nut into the tunnel ram, that was holding the velocity stack on
I lost it when that guy said " you're not as cool, shut up"😂😂
holy moly Mike, LMAO at the dash cam video. Love it.
Thanks buddy
The ending with the intake...
Very cool old school lessons! Awesome video Bro`s.
Thanks for Another great video 😊 love your channel !!!
"This is wonderful crap...I'd drive it" 😂😂😂
17:25 tHaT iS sIcKkK 😅💀💀 Thank you for putting him in
I know it’s about the cars at a show and I’d damn sure admire and take a picture with them, but no way I’m not hunting you down for a photo as well. I’ve been watching David and you for years! Y’all started the pick a pos, make it run and drive again and take it on a road trip craze that soo many do now. Love it keep up the amazing work!
The peoples comments were priceless LOL Thanks for the share Mike, peace brother 👍👍
Mr. B. Here ! 👀👀😎👍. If it makes you happy so be it ! If fun is the factor you nail it ! 👍 🍸🍸 Enjoy it !
Finn has gotta be one of my all time favorite automotive personalites!!!……JAY who😂😂😂
THANKS for the RIDE,

at least I got to mental shotgun.
Best to you Scott 🏁
Almost same reaction taking a general Lee to a car show!! People say the craziest things and run right to ya!! 😀😀
@21:27,, did ya'll notice the lady RUNNING to get in position to snap some footage of the Daytona as Mike exited the show? YEAH,, that's what I'm talk'n about Son. The Daytona did that to peoples hearts,, Thanks Mike,, this video was AWESUM.🙂
This two doge chargers are one of the best worst examples of awesome good looking cars dont need to be all polished and shiny.... love the look on bouth of those chargers, and the fly by part at the end is pure gold! 😍
We've reached the pinnacle of build reactions. Here I am watching this video wearing an FHM shirt... and realizing how few people know the truth. Everyone here should consider themselves lucky to be so enlightened. High fives.
🤚
The kid around 19:40 who says it"s a Hemi really does that Sandlot hat justice haha.
Excellent stuff, I would have pulled over immediately when I saw that velocity stack coming off in case the nut holding it on fell down into the motor. 😎
Finn- I can't stop LMFAO at the comments at the event. Your editor is killing me....😂😂😂
Mike lets got you to a million subscribers! Always appreciate the videos, thanks!
lets do this!
Serious Dodge Charger action on this video, fantastic job!
Dancing velocity stack! Way too funny!
That's it. I have to take the 76 gto to a car show with a hidden camera ... that audio is killer.
Thanks Mr. Finnegan. loved the vid as usual.
Good video mike. I would have loved to see some more of that blue Toyota van across from dumpster fire. I own one and love driving it but my dream car is a daytona. I always enjoy your content and hope I get to meet you someday soon. Keep producing the awesome videos.
Y'all are living your best lives. Living vicariously through you. Keep it up! Great music and editing.
Love when you do those shows with the camera on the cowl to listen and watch what people say and like about the car. Some are so dead on and others are so wrong. lol
If it was mine, I’d put in a new floor pan, finish the trunk, new rocker’s and fix any structural issues. The outside should stay just as it is!
Best part is when the 2 guys walked up and started laughing!
Nice! Also love how every man is an armchair car expert when talking to the wifie 😂 I’m guilty too!
I adore the custom billet cardboard ducting for the radiator😎
Great to see the young people digging it.
This episode made me smile the whole way through.... could have been the beers....
What a pile of mopar goodness, even being buckets of rust they're still cool af 😂
Love it you need to take the daytona to birdsong to get the structure repaired just to make it a little more safe.
This that Joe dirt special !!! LOVE IT
I'm amazed Garrett hasn't tried to buy this off you yet!
This is what I came to say set it out, would look great from his airplane!!
Plant it at the freedom factory and see if he notices it lol 😂
LOL Set the trap@@erscustoms911

@@tomvelgersdijk9444 no he needs a practice one first 🤣
Awesome. Thanks for the content.
Loved the reactions very cool!
Truly sick !! Tom Bailey would be proud .......lol.
Great episode, top quality. A bit like the guy who took his front wheel drive Mustang to a car show.
This is awesome. Can't wait to see more of this on RK. It needs a General name... lol.
I love everyone's reaction to it at the car show.
Surprised that there aren't more Joe Dirt comments about this car.
General Dirt 🤘🏻
Apparently everyone is really young here. Me and my buddies drove old primered muscle cars around in late 80s all the way up to 2000s . Nobody looked at you as being cool. You were literally mullet wearing redneck. Now everyone thinks they're Dominic Toreto.
Brings back memories of taking my all primer 1986 Nissan 720 to local car shows.
Love it, you've got my type of humor.
JUNKDRAWER!!!!!! sounds like a franchise!!!
Great content thanks for sharing
Another banger Roadkill-worthy Charger. The reactions are hysterical, people really will just BS to sound smart lol
I look forward to seeing Chris Songbird putting new quarters, floor pan, rockers and a trunk in it cuz Finnegan can't or won't !
Birdsong...close though
It would be nice to see Chris fix the rust issues but leave the car mostly the way it is
If I was on the freeway and I saw you guys cruising along, I would drop all of my plans and follow you to find out what the hell was going on!😂 What surprised me about the show was the lack of knowledge; people in your 'hood don't know about these cars?! I would think you'd be a celebrity at these things! Have a good one, guys! That was fun! 🤙❤️🙂🇨🇦
Just rewatching this episode because it’s been nagging me ever since I saw the episode where you introduced the car Finnegan. A few minutes into the show here and you mentioned something that made me realize where I’ve seen this car before. It was either the late eighties or the early nineties but I saw the car in person. It would’ve been in one of 3 places but most likely at the DuQuoin,IL Street Machine Nationals. The other locations would’ve been either St Louis for an NHRA or NMCA race or possibly at Indy during the US Nationals. What I remember about the car was it sounding really really strange when it was cruisin around. I did see it parked at some point in time at the same event with the doors open and hood off. You mentioned that you had to cut the rear crossmember to be able to put any kind of a driveshaft in it. That’s the wing car I remember seeing that they’d powered with a Briggs & Stratton for cruisin around the fairgrounds.
I can’t remember the exact setup they used to turn the pinion flange on the rear diff. There were some T buckets around that were built up similarly. The T buckets had either a front mounted Briggs with a centrifugal clutch turning a driveshaft or they’d hide the Briggs in the back under the turtle deck. The cars with rear mounted engines ran either a belt or chain from the centrifugal to the pinion of the rearend where they’d mounted or welded their chain or pulley to the yoke. If I remember correctly, your car had a Wisconsin twin cylinder engine in it. It’s been too many decades ago to be absolutely positive how it was setup but I’m % 99.9 sure that your car is the one I remember. I’m thinking I remember seeing it in a magazine at some point in time when it was photographed in a row of wing cars. I do remember the car having Convo Pros on it also. Finnegan I apologize for the long comment but it’s been buggin me ever since you put up the first video where you introduced it to us. Dunno if this sheds any light on the past of your car but I tried. Thanks for the content 👍
Every level of pure excellence on display here. 👍👌🍺
@18:23,, now THAT's a car seldom seen today. 1962 Ford Fairlane. They weren't very popular even with a 260 V8. Most when wore out ended up crushed. Even in the state this one is,, it is DAMN COOL!
I'm down with all the cars you have Finnegan... Dodge Chargers that you have "Character", can't wait to see the Roadkill shows with the Fake Daytona. I like the fact that you all name these cars. And it's freaky that Graveyard Cars he restores them, and you guys find then and make them run. And you don't care what they look like. You're living the life, getting to do what you enjoy! Some people don't get to do that. Your Daytona is a one of one, if you think about it. I've never seen a fake with that much rust on the road, or a real one for that matter on the road... Love your content! Love Roadkill and most all the programing on Motor Trend.
