- Episode 167 of Mike Finnegan's Garage is all about my trip to Tucson Dragway for the Duct Tape Drags, which is a new event put on by the track and David Freiburger. It's a great event for anyone who wants to have a good time without spending a ton of cash to go drag racing, camping, and doing burnouts. So much good stuff happened while I was there; I met fans, watched the slowest and most competitive drag racing ever, drank some beer and even got to sign off on a new driver's official NHRA Sportsman driver license application. I walked up to you right after you signed his paperwork and asked you if you just purchased something that was going to piss your wife off. You had the happiest look on your face and this glazed look in your eyes and explained it was for his license. You were definitely having a great time!

19:08 - the 'thunk' when the door closes telling us how much Steel there is in that body, then the starter motor fighting against the compression,... and that noise when it starts, that's what a big block is supposed to sound like.
And having a great story, for a racing family, this is what real drag racing is all about.
The only thing not steel is the hood! ;)

I just love seeing this kind of content! It takes me back to the early 00's at Atco raceway. We had something called high school night where you could run whatever you had as long as you paid the track fee. If you didn't have a helmet you could rent one. Good times, the best times.

The engine builder is Thomas Engelage from Bremen . The car in Germany was owned Jens koennecke . The same guy bought a 1966 nova from me before he bought this car . What a cool feat to see this car back in the states ….

I was there on Saturday, good times. I under estimated how many cars and people would attend, no same day racing entry. Did get to see the Chevelle and Mr Frieburger at the wheel of his 32 in the pits. Many way kool hot rods and folks. Cheers !

When Derek did the 1-2 on the column shift reminds me of running my 1950 Ford with it's original Flathead past my dad's house with him on the porch...I'd wait till right in front and throw the column lever 1-2 and get a "chirp" reminding dad of his days hot rodding his flathead ford way back when.
I miss dad. Lost him in 2016 and life ain't been the same without my best friend

Brother! I just got my first “unit” at nearly 40. 600hp bmw 550i GT. Still building on my 89 k1500 for anything and everything kinda rig. Def wish I could race more often in any class but life jams things up usually.

That looks like a lot of fun. Spent three weeks in the campground in November last year. Going to have to see what they have going on this year. Have to talk my friend that lives in Green Valley into buy a junker from one of the wrecking yards and building a burnout car on the cheap. 🤣🤣
