When you install the new tank, get/fabricate a tray with a drain like for home hot water tanks. Hey Finn,,,,put in a alumin water tank. You'll have problems with plastic, they cant take the slossing of the water without baffles. Been there, dun dat.
I recommend Florida Marine Tanks, now located in NC. When I needed a replacement fresh water tank for my 1977 vintage sailboat which they had originally made, they had the original blueprints and delivered me a replacement in three weeks. With an aluminum tank be very careful what you put into it. Always use an in-line filter for salts and other minerals. Sometimes you can get away with real city water, but never with untreated or especially not softened well water. Some boaters winterize their systems with the pink, non-toxic antifreeze. Others just pump their tanks dry and blow out the lines with air. Some, on the other hand, after taking out as much water as possible just put in about five gallons of forty proof vodka and have a spring cleaning party.
My parents though they bought a trailer with crap wiring as the running lights were sporadic and one turn signal didn't work and the other was to the wrong direction. Something I just learned with my enclosed trailer, there is a different pin/color for the 7pin depending on if it is a RV or common trailer. It kicked my butt until I figured that out the night before my first early trip with it... Also just do a metal pan under the tank like a water heater tank with a drain out the floor. Keep the tank inside due to freezing.
All the trailers I have used have had the 7 blade rv plug, including our dump trailer and my toyhauler and other 5th wheels and camping trailers. The other style is a round pin, so the only way it would be a problem is if you were using the wrong diagram for what you have, or someone changed out one type for the other and didn't reorder the wires to match the plug. A metal pan is a good idea. My water tank is 100 gallons and sits under the trailer and it never froze in the SoCal mountains where it only got down to 20 degrees.........I camped all of 2020 in the mountains for a job. Other places, with colder temps is could certainly freeze. I did add heating pads to the bottom of my gray and black tanks and wrapped the drain pipes with heat tape and also ran a dripper on the cold water winterizing port so that water would circulate from the campground faucet through my trailer and then out on the ground, keeping it from freezing.
I want to see a ramp truck at Drag Week. You aren’t allowed to haul your car, but there is nothing stopping you racing your ramp truck and hauling a car for cruising the pits.
Finnegan, there are 2 different standard wiring sequences for bladed 7-wire connections. I'm betting the "toterhome" is wired in "RV" configuration, and the trailer is in "Utility" configuration. My solution would be add a second 7-wire, allowing for both, "RV," and "Utility" wiring configurations, so you always have the right connection for whatever trailer you pull. Also, 7-PIN wiring is different from both 7-wire configurations, which you could also add, just in case it's ever needed. Add fender mirrors, and you'll be able to see the trailer when turning. Makes things much easier and safer when turning and backing with a trailer.
@@gordonbowe it would, but a loose piece like that is just another thing that can get lost. If you're going to be towing random trailers often, there's sense in adding additional sockets by the receiver, labeled with their wiring.
wow that sounds fun, over here in the uk all 12v (car/light commercial) are 12n 7 pin (or 13 pin euro thats easy to adapt) and 24v heavy commercial is 24n. everything that is wired differently or different voltage has a different plug/socket so they cannot be plugged in to something that isnt wired to match
Big fan of the channel. Speaking of fans, if you replace your roof vents with Fan-Tastic Roof Vents, you will not regret it. Most roof vents have a tiny little fan that just stirs air around. Fan-Tastic has a fully shrouded fan that is nearly the size of the opening and a super efficient 12v motor. A couple of other brands also do similar things, but I have never been disappointed in the Fan-Tastic.
Very good idea. These two have the skills to make one from just about anything and install it back in the vehicle. Laying a plywood floor and carpet are the easiest thing in that vehicle to do lol.
27:12 I imagine it has been mentioned a lot but... The "why" is temperatures below freezing. You put it in the living space, and if it's below freezing outside, you keep the living space above, and you have water.
Agree, they put water tanks inside to keep the fresh water from freezing, nobody cares if the black or grey water tanks freeze as they fill from the top you just can't empty a frozen tank. But nothing would work if your fresh water tank where frozen.
@@garrym09 I have tank heaters on my black and grey tanks to prevent them from freezing if you have a 3 seasonrig they are all well insulated and heated

The tank is inside so that the water doesn't freeze on your winter adventures. The inside is heated. You could buy a heated tank for outside but keeping it where it is is probably best. Safe travels.
You can fix the wiring and then the next time you take it out it's wired wrong again.... I think there are trailer wiring gremlins who if you don't use the trailer for 3 months change things on you.
There are 3 different 7-wire configurations. Both "RV" and "Utility configurations use the bladed connectors, but different wiring layouts. A 7-PIN connector is both a pin style connector, and a different wire sequence from the other two. The best thing to do is have 2 bladed 7-wire connections, so you connect the trailer to the one that works, instead of having to mess with rewiring things.
Prior owner of a trailer drove a pickup with stacks in bed of his pickup didn't know the proper standard way of plug wiring so he wired it to match way he wired his truck plug. There is a STD wiring to ALL trailer plugs. Um unless your a DIY person who just wires things however ya feel.
So I ride horses for a living so I live in my toted for 6 months of the year. 1st thing check your roof, make sure you seal it up tight, dicore is your friend don't be shy. 2 water heater, check your diode and flush it, btw the switch you asked about is for your water heater, check your electric heating element while you are in there. Most water tanks are in the cab so they don't freeze when it gets cold. I suggest trying to fit the largest fresh tank you can mine has 150 gallons under our bed. The tech refresh is really easy to do in these, I put a 42 inch oled in the main area, I also put in a traveller sat dish, I chose the dish one since you can pay month to month. While refreshing I would replace your microwave with an convection oven/microwave. If you don't have it already I would highly recommend putting a grill in the lower compartment so you can make stuff when at the track. We Also have an outdoor fridge in ours that we use alot aswell but is not as needed as the grille. Replace all the lighting for led, Casper sells a good bed topper for the cab over that makes it much nicer to sleep on. Your tank read outs will read accurately if you flush and clean them out, aka grey and black. Depending on your budget you should really look into a lithium/solar setup or at least go agm on your house batteries. Last but not least service service your AC the colemans are the best but make sure to lubricate your fan motors ect. Also buy a cheap dehumidifier to run when the toter is not in use, try to tender it as much as possible to help the batteries last as long as they can. If there isn't already a whole coach shutoff you should add one so the batteries don't drain when it is parked and you forget to turn something off.
The two thermostats are for AC and Heat, your heater is likely propane and tucked away somewhere, and the thermostat on the wall controls that, your AC has it's own set of controls (though you can get units to combine the controls into one wall unit.
I've noticed a trend here, he sees something and if he thinks it's cool he buys it, then deals with the problems for a little while and sells it (probably at a loss), and seems to do absolutely no research before hand. The engine in "Lincoln hawk" was a pretty well know pos as well. But at least it's all fairly entertaining, gotta get those RUclips views, probably comes out on top in the end.
Sure this has been mentioned already but am only just watching this now :) Water tank is inside for winterisation, if putting outside make sure to fully insulate it.
You guys are hilarious!!! I must admit I will miss you all bouncing around in the cab, & Newbern almost getting ejected from the seat, into the back- good stuff!! Bob H., Flat Rock, N.C.
alright Finnegan , now you are really living the Dream the new rig is Awesome it’s what all the Big Shots drive you two guys were hysterical playing with the seats and gadgets ! I love the interior , that kitchen is convenient. One time in a Class A my ex made me a Hot Dog for lunch and I never left the Drivers seat ! Plus having your own Coffee maker is way better than random Truck Stop Coffees or Laxitives as I call them Trailer / Truck look good together
Love the new truck. Replace that floor with something hard wearing simple to clean with just a broom and a rag. Stick some under floor heating in there. Water tank when outside vehicle make sure you insulate for freezing.
Back in 2004, "some" RV manufactures were still putting the water tanks inside the unit. One advantage to that is all the plumbing can be kept warmer when using the rig in the winter. Now a days all water tanks are under trailer. Some have arctic packages, some have a heat pad (12 volts) that keep the water from freezing to a point. To keep the water lines on newer RV trailer flowing, the furnace will have a duct for the water line area. So under the trailer you have a 6" -12" void between the frame bottom and the inside floor. So that is where your in floor heating ducts, water lines and fresh, gray and blacks are.
Figure I'd let you know, the toter has an electrically shifted manual 10 speed eaton transmission. If you want to make it a manual, all you have to do is rip the electronics off the top of the transmission and place a stick in its place. The transmission itself is identical.
Actually that is an 'air assisted manual (you can shift it manually), and it uses AIR to shift, crawl in and out of a service bay a few times and you can watch the low air alarm come on (only put about 50K on one of these transmissions).
Hey Finnegan love the channel if you are putting the water tank back under the couch maybe think about putting a drip pan under it and angle it to a drain that leads outside the toter. Keep up the good times buddy!
I had that same issue with trailer lights on a 7 blade. Turns out there's 2 different ways they are wired. One is the RV style wiring, the other is the truck style of wiring. CRAZY!!
soooo… both ac and dc wiring circuits throughout the entire tv going to all plugs and connections so they’re powered both ways or some run alternate current and some run direct current? im just 19 so im not a master but wanting to learn the info you’re sharing real quick while i have the opportunity.
An 8 round connector is often wired in different ways, also there is a hot wire to keep the battery charged for the trailer brakes in case the trailer comes off.
set the cruise, have other person hold the wheel while you get put of the way. much easier in a truck like that, vs. a passenger vehicle, unless it has driver seat and head sensors.
The water tank is usually located inside the rv due to freezing otherwise you have to have a tank heater if you are in cold climate. It is very common to have the fresh water tank under the dinette bedroom bed. The new high volume high pressure brushless rv water pumps are really good so you should upgrade it while you are in there.
With that Mercedes powerplant, you already picked the perfect name. The "Struggle Bus." If anything goes wrong with it, you're more likely to have to replace the entire engine rather than rebuild it.
If anything goes wrong with it, replace it with an MX13 and walk away. They were SOOOO terrible. Over here in Australia a $120,000 truck running a Cat or Cummins would be selling for $60,000 if it had the MB engine. Detroit is going to same way. Western Star can be bought with Cummins or Detroit and the trucks with Detroit are $30-40,000 cheaper than the Cummins truck.

I'm not throwing stones. (I've owned 80+ vehicals) but you might want to hang on to stuff long enough to fix the problem. I hope you have better luck with the Mercedes Diesel than othere I know.
Just a tip there is a water drain valve to drain the tank on to the ground so you didn't need to let it leak out in the Toter. And don't put carpet back in. Use water proof laminent flooring this will help with clean up after trips and when your roof starts to leak because it will.
I wouldn't use laminate I would use LVT flooring that is waterproof. For those who aren't in the biz LVT stands for luxury vinyl tile. Dont use the click LVT, it's a floating floor, you need to use the glue down LVT in your luxury Rig.
"Why are all 3 of my tanks filling" There's plumbing connecting them all so that when you drain them you can use the grey water and then the clean water to flush it all. Probably some valves next to the the spot you empty at for you to figure out. They likely left them all open the last time it was drained. It's also nice to be able to drain the clean water tank after its sat in a barn for two years.

What you have there is a first gen automatic you only need the clutch to stop and take off and go from neutral to drive or reverse
Would it be possible to wire the toter as "utility" then make a short pigtail adapter to convert to "RV" standard?
@@gordonbowe it would, but a loose piece like that is just another thing that can get lost. If you're going to be towing random trailers often, there's sense in adding additional sockets by the receiver, labeled with their wiring.
wow that sounds fun, over here in the uk all 12v (car/light commercial) are 12n 7 pin (or 13 pin euro thats easy to adapt) and 24v heavy commercial is 24n. everything that is wired differently or different voltage has a different plug/socket so they cannot be plugged in to something that isnt wired to match
If the truck ever pulled a horse trailer, it will be wired wrong.
Of course there’s 2 different configurations. Why would they be the same when they can be different. 🤔
Install a drip tray with a drain to outside in case of another failure.
That's thinkin
Very good idea. These two have the skills to make one from just about anything and install it back in the vehicle. Laying a plywood floor and carpet are the easiest thing in that vehicle to do lol.
I was waiting for this episode, my old boss is the one who bought Lincoln hawk
27:12 I imagine it has been mentioned a lot but... The "why" is temperatures below freezing. You put it in the living space, and if it's below freezing outside, you keep the living space above, and you have water.
Should have bought a stacker trailer now instead of that light duty trailer. Bet you will get one later on though. Like in a few weeks LOL
Do you think it'll take that long? Lol

It's for weight, in proportion to the black tank..they don't care if its inside or out
Agree, they put water tanks inside to keep the fresh water from freezing, nobody cares if the black or grey water tanks freeze as they fill from the top you just can't empty a frozen tank. But nothing would work if your fresh water tank where frozen.
@@garrym09 I have tank heaters on my black and grey tanks to prevent them from freezing if you have a 3 seasonrig they are all well insulated and heated
Get yourself a truck GPS to use in the rig. Garmin and Rand McNally make some good units. Last thing you want is to get on a weight restricted road or stuck under a low bridge.
Next week on Finnegan’s garage... I just started my own trucking company
All of this started with the og ramp truck, crazy how things have changed lol
ramp truck escalation is real....
I'm convinced this is some kind of deeply encoded cry for help.
Dude for real I remember when they bought that truck for roadkill can’t believe how long it’s been now
It started with the OG Roadkill ramp truck, but things escalated quickly when the Mazdarotti was stolen. From that point Finnegan didn't want to use the OG truck for overnight trips anymore, affraid Blasphemi would get stolen.
You might say things have... *ramped up?*
I'll see myself out.
When you install the new tank just put a pan under it with a hose that can run somewhere else so if it does ever leak again it wont ruin the floor.
I was thinking the same thing
"The struggle bus" would be a great name for the toter. Fits it perfectly.
I thought he said "Snuggle Bus". I was ready to hit "stop" at a moments notice.

The tank is inside so that the water doesn't freeze on your winter adventures. The inside is heated. You could buy a heated tank for outside but keeping it where it is is probably best. Safe travels.
The dynamic between these two is amazing. Bummer about the toter, but at least we’ll have some good RV repair content now!
Never fails that the plug on a trailer is wired the wrong way.
You can fix the wiring and then the next time you take it out it's wired wrong again.... I think there are trailer wiring gremlins who if you don't use the trailer for 3 months change things on you.
I used to run into that problem, then I looked up the proper wiring schematic...
The rig is naturally in your transporting arc!
I can't wait to see what sort of rig you replace this with in 2 months!
The two thermostats are for AC and Heat, your heater is likely propane and tucked away somewhere, and the thermostat on the wall controls that, your AC has it's own set of controls (though you can get units to combine the controls into one wall unit.
Broke down will be a common theme with that MBE.

The water tank is inside to prevent freezing during spring & fall seasonal use.
A used motorhome is like a boat with wheels they leak anywhere they can,on the bright side at least you can't sink😁
But apparently, like a used boat, they fill full of water anyway.
only fiscally
So, you would drive this down the boat ramp with the expectation it will float?
Love the new truck. Replace that floor with something hard wearing simple to clean with just a broom and a rag.
Stick some under floor heating in there.
Water tank when outside vehicle make sure you insulate for freezing.
The reason they put the water tank in side to prevent freezing in colder areas
Yeah Georgia guys forget about the cold we get in other areas.
Every rig driver will tell you whenever the trailer lights aren’t working, the pig tail connector is always the first place to go.
The second you discovered the leak you should have pulled the drain valve and dumped it.
I was thinking the same thing, why not dump the tank once a leak was found?
Yep he's lacking common sense here.
Just posted the same thing. Possibly damage a lot more than just the carpet.

Figure I'd let you know, the toter has an electrically shifted manual 10 speed eaton transmission. If you want to make it a manual, all you have to do is rip the electronics off the top of the transmission and place a stick in its place. The transmission itself is identical.
Oh that's cool. So you still need to use the clutch to start off then? Been wondering what semi-automatic meant.
Actually that is an 'air assisted manual (you can shift it manually), and it uses AIR to shift, crawl in and out of a service bay a few times and you can watch the low air alarm come on (only put about 50K on one of these transmissions).
Actually the trans case is different, no mount or hole for the slave valve. Other than that it’s the same
add an external drain to the new tank so you can empty it when not in use.

And douche it good with some vinegar to kill the little mold that's there
Well Im a flooring installer I'd take everything out down to the plywood dry it kilz it put water proof lvp back through the whole thing .
An 8 round connector is often wired in different ways, also there is a hot wire to keep the battery charged for the trailer brakes in case the trailer comes off.

Everyone’s living that toter home life now. 😂
Really starting to feel left out
"Why are all 3 of my tanks filling"
There's plumbing connecting them all so that when you drain them you can use the grey water and then the clean water to flush it all. Probably some valves next to the the spot you empty at for you to figure out. They likely left them all open the last time it was drained. It's also nice to be able to drain the clean water tank after its sat in a barn for two years.
