I feel Nintendo intentionally made the Purah Pad "weaker" than the Sheikah Slate both as an in-universe explanation for the Sheikah technology been more advanced than the Zonai technology courtesy of the time loop allowing Mineru to get the basic idea of what one day would become the Sheikah Slate, and also to give players a reason to replay Breath of the Wild in order to enjoy all of the unique features its gameplay provides (eg: the slate abilities). All that said, great video!
There are two important plot related facts about the Purah Pad you neglected to mention. The Purah Pad is where Mineru's soul is resting in wait to help Link as the Sage of Spirit in the far future. Not to mention that restoring its warp capabilities even back in the Era of Founding that Zelda found herself trapped in is what saved her and Rauru from suffering the same fate as Sonia when Ganondorf turned into the Demon King.
@@Lucas-db2jq My question is, where did they teleport to? As far as I’m aware currently, none of the travel points her open. Did Zelda have a Travel Medallion on her that she placed at Rauru’s Castle at some point which she then retrieved before doing what she did?
@@xeldalachyrulemaybe after spending who knows how long with that construct, the warp points got reset. Or maybe, since Rauru said the Temple of Time was on the surface when he was alive, after the Temple was raised, it reset the warp point to it.
@ZekromAndYugiAndDragon123 or maybe the warp room in the room of awakening was active at the time, it is activated prior to the shrines being reopened and we have other examples of those terminals not being single use (like the sky mine, for example), maybe at the time the room of awakening was actually part of raurus castle, it resembles the ganon area/intro with the multiple dive platforms It's also one of the only places in the game that's a warp without being tied to anything -- almost everything else is a temple, shrine, or tower; that appears as the only one without an associated symbol Also generally, since the zonai designed the shrines, which all have built-in warp capability with the purah pad and have that designed in mind (with a sand spot that's cleared to make a warp point) , it's clear they knew how to and made some use of this technology
@Lucas-db2jq Also the clip he always uses and says mineru is giving it to the construct for safekeeping is wrong. In that memory mineru hands over the pad for studying. In a later memory we see Zelda handing over the pad to the construct we meet in the GSI before she turns into a dragon.
One thing I noticed is the Purah Pad's teleportation isn't limited to sheikah towers or shrines like the Sheikah Slate, implying it can technically bring Link anywhere
I mean the Sheikah Slate has teleported Link outside of Divine Beasts without having there being no visible place to teleport like the Hateno or Akkala Tech Lab

I really liked both the slate and the pad pretty equally for their own unique uses throughout the titles. I like the evolution of Link from BOTW where the slate acted like a guide to help him with his recovery and provide a crutch when he needs it. And the pad in TOTK was more of a direct means of navigation since he's confident in the land of Hyrule again. Great commentary on the two!
From a more practical point I prefer the slate over the pad. I own replicas of both, and the slate is much more sturdy and can be carried easily on your belt. Whereas the pad is very fragile and due to its size and shape doesn‘t fit in any of your pockets or pouch. (Unless you‘ve got a magical one like Link does. 😅) However you cannot carry the Zonai battery and the Sheikah slate at the same time. As the battery looks so cool. I prefer it as accessory, but then again you also need the arm… Cosplaying Link used to be much easier and cheaper in the old times. 😂

Even though the Sheika Slate was a commercial failure, it's hard to argue that it was an amazing console- I mean, piece of technology and more comfortable than the Purah Pad. The Purah Pad, on the other hand, finally perfected the technology. It's thinner, lighter, and if I recall correctly, had detatchable sides? I might need to play through these two games again.

@@TheTwistedTreant526 I'd actually imagine his help as a ghost functioning more similar to the way that the sages' phantoms help us out in that game. An entity that tries to follow you around and occasionally teleports to keep up with you and throws out some sort of basic attack at enemies that get too close. Navi's purpose for the gameplay was as a way to visualize a targeting lock-on system for the player. And the series has moved on and allowed the Links in more recent games to just be able to do that naturally without using a fairy helper.

The Sheikah Slate has an actual motorbike as an unlockable rune. Also the runes in general. And the guidance stones have an All Your Base joke in them. The Purrah Pad can't do that since all of the powers in TotK are bound to Rauru's donated hand (and therefore doesn't count as a Pureah pad function). However, it does share the map, photography, teleportation, compendium and tracking functions and the ability to interact with Sheikah tech. However, the map tech for the pad, instead of being downloaded via the ancitent tech is instead scan by getting launched out of a tower that slingshots you miles into the air.
I find it funny how the Purah Pad is just a straight downgrade in terms of features. Making me think Purah is being stubborn making you use her pad over the Slate.
If we’re ignoring the concept of runs, the Purah pad is obviously better. However from a gameplay standpoint, the sheikah slate is far more versatile and effective

But it only covers main series games, and even leaves out spinoffs made by Nintendo themselves. Most of them make sense (TINGLE) but there's some room to interpret Age of Calamity into the timeline - it's an Ocarina of Time style timeline split caused by going back in time and changing the past. BUT, that's not official, and is down to personal preference. While a lot of people (including myself in the past) have taken official word as complete truth, there is also room for interpretation which is supported by the developers. Aonuma, Miyamoto, and other Nintendo employees have said that they don't want their word to be taken like it's written in stone, and the fact that things have changed more than once should be a testament to that.

I like how you play through all of TOTK with barely any acknowledgement of what happened in BOTW. No mention or sign of the shrines, or the guardians, or the towers, or even the freaking divine beasts. And both Zelda and Purah talking about the Purah pad as though the Sheikah slate never existed.
I never understood how the Purah Pad (sampled from the Shiekah Slate), can interact with Zonai tech. You open doors with Rauru’s arm, but somehow, can teleport to Shrines using the Purah Pad?
The purah pad was sent through time to a point where the Zonai and Sheikah existed so it’s likely it was updated then and that’s what the sheikah slate and later Purah Pad would be based on. It’s most likely a time loop
I know, im working on a "nature documentary" and have recently gotten botw with a free cam, so i can get super professional cinematic shot. It's taking me a while to get everything figured out, but when i do, it'll take things on this channel to the next level. Should have the nature documentary out in a week or so
I always loved the sheikah slate. The wii u is such an underrated console in general and especially compared to the switch. When totk was released, I was really disappointed that they changed it to the pad. I hate the switch cause its such a weak console that can only run games at 30fps, and I've always hated purah because she was annoying in BOTW. I also just think the slate looks better, and ties into the actual story and game mechanics better.

It's insane to me how Nintendo made the Wii U, and then literally went: "let's do the same thing with a fresh coat of paint". Not to mention how dogshit the practical design of the switch is. It's so bad, it popularized "joycon drift". If you don't know what that is, you can look it up, but basically: the analog sticks on joycon controllers are so hilariously unoptimized that it's not a matter of if, but rather when they'll start to drift. Would you like me to go further? The fact that the switch had Bluetooth capabilities for years before Nintendo finally decided to allow non-nintendo brand devices to connect. Or how about the fact that the charging port is on the same side as the stand? So you can't charge it while playing with the stand up? I could go on and on about why the switch is horrible. Nintendo better not mess up their next console so badly.
