Did you know I made a Lessons from Old Quilt video about this quilt? Here's a link: ruclips.net/video/ABht8rMO25c/видео.html I have another zipper pouch tutorial without lining. Here's a link to that:ruclips.net/video/Qbejuw1wMe0/видео.html
just love this idea.i got a quilt.i.have made.10 years ago I .thank this would be great idea to remember my first.quilt I sew.thank you God Bless everyone ❤🙏😀.
What a great idea. The pouches turned out great. I usually like to box my corners but I think in this instance it definitely does look better the way you did it. I am interested to see what you do with this old quilt next. This idea would be great for sentimental quilts that have seen better days but you still want to remember them.
Kris this quilt has to have such a history and I love that you found a way to keep the quilt around to enjoy! I really appreciate the way that you took the time to line up the front and back panel so they look consistent. I don’t think I would have thought to do that!!!
@@SewtheDistance I think you can get a few more pouches and maybe a tote or two! But I don’t know for sure because I know some areas are more tattered than others.
I have seen several Teddy Bears made from old quilts like this one. Mother made dog beds out of them. Another woman in Tennessee was making pins (the kind worn on clothes) and greeting cards out of them. I have also seen some jackets made from old quilts. I think I would have used some of that small netting over that old fabric (on the outside to protect and extend the life of it), before I put the bag together. The netting would allow the old fabric to be seen and help the pouch last longer. Your pouch turned out beautiful.
Thank you for amazing tutorials I love your methods and understand the lessons thank you sew much! I’m usually the one in my group that keeps asking questions so you can see how much your teaching is really reaching me and other question boxes😆😂
YAY! So happy! My years of teaching has taught me to differentiate to reach all types of learners. I am happy to hear it is working! That said, if you have any questions at all, please feel free to ask! You can even email me if you'd rather it be private. ❤️ My email is sewthedistance@gmail.com . ❤️
@@SewtheDistance I actually need to work out how to finish a double bed quilt I started a few years back. I thought it would be a great idea to sew it by hand - yeah - 😂 and I do not have a big quilting machine, so I am contemplating tackling it again this Winter coming to see how far I get. I am thinking using buttons or just stitching threads through to hold the squares down then I can tackle the edge either by machine or hand. WHY I ever thought this was a good or sane idea I will never know 🤣
LOL! I was just talking to someone about this the other day! Definitely mix hand and machine piecing. I see it all the time in old quilts. Love the idea of buttons! You can do it! Think of the story it will tell. Love it! ❤️
Love it. I had an old quilt think it was my grandmother's and it was in just about the same shape as yours. I cut out the good pieces and made a small quilt and pillow for my granddaughter. She is now twelve and she still uses it along with the dogs😂😂😂. So maybe another time you could make a small pillow.
Thank you for the tutorial showing how to line a zipper pouch. Is it possible to add a lining to your first zipper pouch tutorial? (scrapy one). I love the method you did with the different colored bottom and was wondering if there is a way to add a lining to that method.
Great question! To do this the same way with the same look, you could have to add the bottom to two separate pieces and add it that way. You could also make the lining one piece and leave your opening on the inside of the lining. I hope that makes sense and helps!
@@SewtheDistance I have used your great tutorials before, and I just wondered if on your website you had an email where I could thank you, and maybe send you a picture or two. If that sounded nice 😊
Oh, thank you! Sure! I have two email addresses. One is sewthedistance@gmail.com o and the other is through my website. It is info@sewthedistance.com . I check the gmail one more frequently, but I am getting better at checking the other one, too. Either will work! I can't wait to see your projects!
Great questions! I did make a video on lining a zipper pouch, but I haven't made one yet on boxed corners. Here is the video on lining a zipper pouch: ruclips.net/video/mMqaDU10w84/видео.html Hope this helps!
Great question! I thought about it but I loved how soft it is and how the texture reminds me of a quilt, almost like a nod to its previous life. If I added a stabilizer, it would have made it stiffer and it wasn’t the look/feel I was going for. You absolutely could, however. Hope this helps!
I thought of something I would like to see done by someone who knows what they are doing 😊 a book cover that slips off so you can put it on another book. Hope that made sense. I've tried to make them but failed and gave up 🤨
