    I have only made two quilts using fabric that I have bought specifically for a quilt I am about to make. I stopped counting how many quilts I have made once I hit over 50. Everything comes out of my stash. I have bought a lot of it, sometimes at yard sales, thrift store sales (25 or 50 cents for a fat quarter!), gifts of fabric and I do product reviews for Amazon's Vine program, so a lot of fat quarters; charm packs, rulers, batting, thread, etc. So I always feel like I am making free quilts.

    You good at explaining the block. Your drawn diagrams were very very very helpful. It's a good visual tool.
    I need a step by step explanation with pictures. You delivered.
    When you showed a daeker center variation, a I spy quilt came to mind. If you used primary or pastel (baby) colors, it would make a cute quilt. I would put different prints in the centers for I spy.

    I used my stash to make 2 large quilts and about 7 baby quilts during lockdown. I had some charm squares and left over yardage to make them. I wasn’t happy with some of the outcomes, but they were finished and donated. It didn’t make much of a difference in the amount of stash I still had, and on top of that, I started buying more fabric! 8 was kind of depressed. Now I am trying not to buy anymore fabric and use my stash and you have given me another beautiful quilt to make. Many thanks for all you do. Your tutorial was informative and very clear as well as a beautiful product.

    Kris I am loving your tutorials. found you randomly opening Jenny's countdown box opening. Can't wait to run your past videos. you're adorable and I love how upbeat you are about quilting. Helps get me motivated to get in the studio and get my sewjo on. I'm loving this scrappy quilt - thanks for all the tips- I've never made a test block - and now it just seem so logical. Separating the blocks on trays also makes sense. and makes the tray from last years Jenny box useful. Kudos for teaching this old girl new tricks. Happy Holidays, Teri G.

    p.s. this pattern would also be fun with a contrasting solid for the background, a peach or gold, or even something dark and vivid. Imagine a marine blue background, either solid color, or scrappy, with soft peaches, pinks and aqua for the prints. Great pattern thanks for sharing. Great series!!

      @@mariedoll6081 I will! I have some lovely vintage fabrics I’ve been saving in pinks, and light blues, greens and aqua. I don’t have a huge stash of them, so a pattern that is heavy on background is perfect. I’m thinking this is the quilt I want to make with them, with a darker solid background.

    If you don't have a spare wall for a design wall... you can make a portable one with 2 or 3 folds like a room divider. With thick card or light weight foam board like is used in framing prints etc. Or use particle board with blocks turned into lip on feet to hold it up. If you cover both sides you can use it in any configuration, sample blocks on one side, whole quilt on the other? Then fold it up and store beside a cupboard when not needed? You have probably already thought about this idea though. I have seen the right sized batting pinned up then taken down with the top on it and a new piece used for the next one? Of coourse you will find a solution that will work for you.
    Love this quilt and how you've adjusted it it's georgous.

    Love how this turned out.
    When I make the backing out of two pieces of the same size fabric and don't want one seam down the middle, I cut one of the fabrics lengthwise down it's middle (basically on the fold). When I sew them together I sew 20" of fabric A to 40" of fabric B. Then I sew the empty side of fabric B to 20" of fabric A. Looks nice and I don't have to worry about a seam going down the middle.

I have some fabric that I want to highlight in bigger squares and this free pattern will be perfect for it. One of the best kept secrets for fabric is an online sight called Southern fabric. If you go to their menu and hit sales it will show jelly rolls for 60 percent off and their scrap bags beat Modas to pieces. And these are fabrics that you will really use. I get Moda jelly rolls for $22. You can’t beat that price ❤

    Great quilt, Kris. I'm a pinning convert myself. I would like to see how you pieced the back. I don't have a good eye for that.

    • @SewtheDistance
      @SewtheDistance  Год назад +1

      You are so welcome! I have a short video on some tips that I will link here. As for as the actually piecing, used 2.5" yards for the two fabrics and seamed them together on the long side using a large seam allowance. I then press the seams open and hand-basted them down. Here's the video:ruclips.net/user/shortsU9MFX_c33cE?feature=share

    I love Fall colors and fabrics so I love your quilt❣️ I recently made a similar quilt called Scrappy Irish Chain that has a similar look but has individual 2 1/2 inch squares in block one and larger background fabrics in block 2 with 3 scrappy 2 1/2 " squares in the corners. That allows me to custom quilt a big area in that block. Your strip sewing technique would make up much quicker. I plan to combine the two patterns. Thanks so much for sharing!
