    • @dcwatashi
      @dcwatashi Год назад

      You guys don’t need to pin and actually it doesn’t help the fabric lay flat. I use glue or that wonder tape. Super simple don’t need to spend time taking pins out as you’re sewing it’s so fast
      I found a similar type of wonder tape at Joann fabric and it works just as well. And I got a lot more for a dollar the wonder tape brand is a little bit more pricey

    • @ecoquilting7077
      @ecoquilting7077 9 месяцев назад

      @@dcwatashiThat stuff is spendy and has issues of its own!
      I love my love my yellow-head pins, 500 pack! You should see the ladies at the shop flip.over my nice crisp intersections on my *heavy-fabric, with everything from cordouroy to sateen finishes, damask, upholstery, etc, 1199+ separate squares* --- that stuff goes walking no matter how you hold it!
      Yes, perhaps basic cotton holds itself in place almost perfectly, but most other fabrics have other ideas.
      Longer pins enable you to pin without buckling the fabric, and also assist in stress-free "taking up" of excess length, since you sit and split the difference with pins until you like the distribution, then as you sew you can relax just trust that you placed the pins well, and enjoy your beautiful seam!

    Thankyou thankyou Kris for this video. Your object might have been to show us how to do the scrappy quilt block and yes, I really enjoyed this but what I valued most was the lesson on how to square up your block. I was given a whole bunch of blocks made by different people and asked to sew them together. My mind went blank because all the squares were, well, not uniform in their square and I didn't know where to start. Especially too because I had cut and made some blocks to go with it too. Mine all matched, other blocks matched each other but nothing was uniform. Now I can fix it all up. Finally, I know what I am doing!!!!!!! Thank you.

      I cut my own 5 inch squares and assembled them in sets as you demonstrated for the first method. I set them with a deep royal blue in a different way. Was really happy with results and gifted it to our nephew who just graduated from college. He was thrilled! Thanks so much Kris; all of your blocks are lovely. I will definitely be making this quilt as I adore scrappy quilts!

      Could you do with 5 inch squares on the outside of center block using in larger inside square, I know it would be double the size, to make less cutting and sewing.

    My brain did cartwheels trying to work out what you were doing when you sewed the sides together to make a tube 🤣🤣🤣
    I have a pattern for a dolls quilt and I am thinking that making a whole bunch of these to then cut down with the size of the quilt might be a great idea. Yes, my BIG quilt is still waiting for me 😂 am I procrastinating on that project maybe???
    Thanks Kris.

      I had to look this one up! I had never heard of it. When I did the Lessons from an Old Quilt video on the old quilt that inspired this block, I found a similar pattern in the book 5500 Quilt Block Designs by Maggie Malone. It looks like a variation of Edna's Choice (#101 in the book), but I agree! It is a variation of Idaho Square Dance, too! Thank you for this!
      So happy you love your Janome 6700! I love mine, too! That and my Juki are my two go-to machines. ❤️
