To make this, you'll need the following: For Version #1: * Ladder Sides - Two (starched) 20" x 1.5" strips of Black or Preferred Color for strips * Various widths of inner ladder strips, at least 5" long, no wider than 2.25" * Various widths of outer strips, 13" and down For Version #2: * Ladder Sides - Two (starched) 20" x 1.5" strips of Black or Preferred Color for strips * Various widths of inner ladder strips, at least 5" long, no wider than 2.25" * One (starched) 10" block that is a solid or tone on tone, cut diagonally as shown in video Use 1/4" seams and a tighter stitch than usual.
Thanks for sharing this block on RUclips . When I made it, I started it the same way of building the ladder but then I pinned it to a 14” layer of batting and fabric on the diagonal. Next came the varied strips that I stitched down, flipped and pressed each one to fill the sides. I marked the 12.5 square with a pencil and basted that line. Next I trimmed off the edges and pressed it .. ready to put on the embroidery machine for a quilting design. These amazing ladder blocks go together with the quilt as you go joining strips of black fabric.
Very interesting! Thank you so much for sharing that with me. I apologize for my late reply, as I have been trying to catch up on so many things. Take care and happy sewing!
I love this ladder Block! I have made it twice. One wonderful scrappy and one beautiful one out of Christmas Fabric. Those that receive these absolutely loved them. Thank you for for the this wonderful tutorial Marie and thanks to Cindy.
You are so welcome! It's funny that you mentioned Christmas Ladder blocks because I was thinking if how nice it would be to make a Christmas throw pillow from this block. Thanks, Glenda! ❤️
When I first found this last year, I made a potholder with solid colors on each side of the ladder, and a pillow top with random strips on each side. I love them both. My hubby (who does 99% of the cooking at our house) was reluctant to use the potholder because he said it was too pretty. Well, now it's WELL used, but still pretty (lol). And the pillow is on my bed still loved so much. I love all the things I find on your channel!!
It's tough to use pretty and new things... I know! Lol 😃 Thank you so much for such a sweet and thoughtful comment. I'm glad you like my channel and tutorials, and i'm only too happy to help you come up with new things to sew. Have a great day!
Good morning Marie. I enjoyed watching you make this block! It's beautiful!! Please thank Cindy for me! It was wonderful for her to share the pattern with us. LAK
Well hello, Christine! Yes, I'll certainly let her know that everyone is very thankful. In fact, it might be best to have her read down through the comments, which she may do anyway. I'm so glad you like the block and enjoyed how it's made. It's definitely fun. Take care and have a great day!
Great tutorial! Pressing to one side really helps if you have seams to match, it facilitates nesting for accuracy. I believe pressing to the dark is a long standing tradition, as it helps to avoid shadowing behind light fabrics.
Hello again, Gisela! It was so good to see you on the live stream today, thank you for that! I'm glad you liked the block tutorial. I have been very excited about bringing that to you all. Cyndy was very gracious to share it with us and my utmost of thanks to her. Enjoy your day!

Hi Sherry! I'm so glad that I'm not the only one who is totally in love with this block. The possibilities for it are endless and it's just so pretty. It's easy, not a lot of thought has to go into it and can be made up quickly, especially when working on more than one block at a time. Thank you so much for dropping by to comment and for watching. I really appreciate that! Happy sewing!

I will go check and see if you got into the group. Ok, I don't see you as a member, but then again, I only have your first name so I can't be 100% sure. Maybe you can try to join again?
So fun :) I came up with a very similar block a few years ago when I was expecting my daughter. I did the ladder part in greens and each corner was all scraps of one of a few colors. The colored corners came together to make red, purple, pink, or yellow “flowers”
I asked another quilter On Point Tv about if you could always quilt open seams and she said in time the seams can come apart. I thought the pieces looked so much neater pressed open. Thank you so much for doing tis video. Cindy is a great word. I love this. So kind of Cindy to share the pattern.
Good morning Donna! Well, that does make a lot of sense. Thank you for sharing that! I guess the way I think about it is this, if we quilted all really well through all the layers it shouldn't really shift too much, but I guess it depends on what we're doing with the final product. Thanks you so much for watching and for always commenting. Take care and have a great week Donna!

I really enjoyed watching this video and now i know what to do with my scraps which are mounting up. Using the black strips is what makes this block so eye catching. Thanks so much and also Cindy for you time and generosity in sharing. 🌻 From South Africa

You are so welcome. Most of the thanks goes to Cyndy, though. 🥰 When I showed it on one of my What's Up Wednesday videos I had so much response to it and I can see why. It's an absolutely stunning block. I've also done themed blocks with this pattern, like for 4th of July or Easter. I was thinking it would be great to make a quilt out of just themed ladder blocks. Thank you so much for watching and taking the time to comment. Have a great day!
Love this block!!! So easy and so great to use up those scraps!!! I’m always wondering how to cut up my scraps…strips, blocks or just leave as is…guess I over think it! A huge thank you to Cindy for allowing you to use her pattern and this video on her quilt group!!! Hooray to both of you!!!
Highly summary! Yes, it is an easy and very quick way to use up scraps. It makes such a colorful block that could be made into a pillow or a tote bag or even just a regular quilt.
Hi Shelley! I'm so glad that you love it, too. It has been one of my favorites since I first saw it. Cyndy has been very gracious to share it with us all and I am so thankful to her for that period

Thanks for the block pattern Cindy! Thanks to you Marie for your tips on lining things up so the finished blocks will match. 🎉 Your color choices are amazing.

@@MariesScrappyCreations I have a question, though, if you don’t mind. Could we not make a 10” out of strips and cut it on the diagonal to attach to each side? Or does it have something to do with the direction of the stripes when cut?
@@kathyyarbrough303 🥰👏 That should work just as well, I can't see any reason why not. I was just trying to go by the pattern that was in front of me. as I knew I was making it not only for the channel, but for a group of quilters that I'm a part of. But that is an excellent idea, thank you, Kathy!
Hi Marie, 🎉🎉🎉 yay loved the tutorial. I think you're right - it would be the perfect block for a kids I-spy blanket 🔍 Great point about marking half way on the ladder so the black strips match up. Also loved your kitty pins in your pincushion - they are so cute! Not sure I'll still be up in 4 hours to catch your live, but if I dont, will watch it tomorrow. Thank you Cyndy for sharing this lovely block pattern ♡ very much appreciated 💖
I understand, NanniBee 🥰. All these different time zones get crazy. Each time I do a live stream, I'm going to do it at a different time, so that I can include different subscribers. I feel that way it will make it more fair. I am still going to do a QAYG version of this block, but I just didn't want to be overwhelmed yesterday, so I kept the video shorter. Yes, those pins are absolutely adorable. I love them! Thank you so much for watching and dropping by to comment as always! Take care and have a great day
Hi Adam! Thank you so much for watching and dropping by to comment, I really appreciate it. Yeah, this is one of my favorite blocks and that's is saying something coming from someone who lives and breathes scrap blocks and scrappy anything. Lol.
I Love that you picked Cindy as the creative word of the day, even though I just watched this (11/17/2022). She is so awesome. But also, I have an awesome daughter named Cindy! Thank you for all you do. And Thank You Cindy Clemons!

Hi Janet! Oh, that was very sweet. I'm so glad that you like this and I told Cyndy she needed to read all the comments because everybody is really enjoying her block. Thank you so much for watching and for dropping by to comment! Happy sewing, Janet!

Hi Marie! Once you try it, you'll be totally addicted. Consider yourself warned, hahah! Thank you to Cyndy for allowing me to share this wonderful block with so many people. There have been a lot of people waiting for this. Happy sewing, Marie!
Hi, I came across this video yesterday and was inspired to make the ladder block. I ended up making a table runner from left over fabric. I normally do not like the scrappy look, but, this block somehow caught my interest and inspired me to try a scrappy design. I love it, I can’t believe how much I enjoyed making it and how eye pleasing it is. Thank you! I would like to post it here but don’t know how. Take care.
That is awesome! You made me smile! I've always adored scraps and the scrappy look (there were a few exceptions, ha ha). I'm SO happy that you were pleased with this!!!
Hi Trinette! I am excited for everyone that can make them now!! I felt like I was holding in a secret before I could show everyone, haha.. I'm so glad that you liked it. Thank you for watching and for dropping by to comment. It was great to see you on the live stream, too!
Love this block,TY to you and Cindy. This will be my first block,Im new to sewing.Been looking for something that I really liked and looks like I will be able to do👍👍👍😊
Hello Marie! I'm so glad you made this tutorial as it reminded me to look to see if l have extra blocks. I am so forgetful!I 🤪 l love this block too. I didnt think I'd like it at first until l saw a pic of a finished quilt in this pattern. Thank you Cyndy for sharing the pattern!
Good morning Tracy! Yes, Cyndy was awesome to share this pattern with everyone. It's one of my absolutely all time favorite quilt blocks. And don't worry about being forgetful, I'm the queen in that category, haha. Take care and have a great day!
Thank you for sharing. I love your block I have wanted to do a scrappy quilt . But didn’t like any of the quilts I had seen before. God bless you and your family have a blessed week. Also I’m new to your channel awesome job.
There's nothing like scrap quilt, is there? They're my absolute favorite!! Thank you so much for commenting, and it was great to see you on the live stream! Have a great afternoon and happy sewing!
Good morning, Marie! So good to see you on this rainy Sunday in Oregon. You always bring me sunshine! This is a pretty block and I’m so grateful to Cindy for sharing this with us. I have managed to collect numerous packages of jelly roll strips and I’m always looking for new ways to use them. I think this would be fun to incorporate some of those with this block. I agree using strips of varying widths makes it more interesting, so I can easily mix up other widths with them. Thanks for another fun video!
Hello there, Nancy! So we're not the only ones with rain today, huh? It's actually only 60゚ today and I think most of the day it was in the fifties. It rained so hard during the live stream that rain was coming in onto my cutting table, yikes! Thank you so much for watching the video as well as attending my live stream, you rock! Hope things are going well for you I think of you often. Take care, my friend!
That's a great idea, Doris! I have thought of so many different ways one could make them. I thought maybe a quilt with themed blocks like a 4th of July, a Christmas, an Easter, etc.
Thank you Cindy and Marie for Thu block tutorial. I really like this block! I'm also very glad that you were able to get in your sewing room and sew. It always helps me find my center. I've been sick the past 4 or 5 days and I haven't even been able to go to my sewing room. I'm really missing it, but I'm improving and will have to be patient. :) I'm pretty sure I'll be making these blocks. It looks like so much fun!
Hi there Amanda! I'm sorry you've been sick, that really stinks. I know you miss your sewing room, but it sounds like you need your rest right now. You'll get there soon and make up for lost time... feel better soon!
@@MariesScrappyCreations See you're such a sweetie. Thank you. I'm being a good girl and resting, but I'm raring to go. Lol! This week I will be creating, somehow. :)
Hi Debra! Yes, it is such a lovely use of scraps and a bit different than the normal way to use them in a quilt block. I'm glad you enjoyed it and thank you for stopping by to comment!
Hi Marie! I was referred to you by a friend because she knows I like scrappy although one of these Ladder Blook videos did show up down the right side on my computer as a suggested video! I just LOVE it! 💗Thanks to you & Cyndy for sharing the dimensions, etc.
Hello Marla and welcome to my channel! I'm so glad your friend referred you and that it showed up as a suggested video for you. The ladder block is, hands down, one of my most favorite scrappy blocks. There are just so many things to like about it. I'm so glad that you watched my video and stopped by to comment, thank you for that! I put out a video on Wednesdays and then a tutorial on Sundays. Sometimes I pop in with a chat or a live stream in between . I look forward to seeing you tomorrow!
Loved the tutorial for a ladder block. Thank you and Cindy for the pattern . Will make one after I get home from a visit with my son/family and my sis in law. Hoping to get to a couple of fabric stores. One for sure as I have to get some more vinyl to finish renewing seats in our boat. Gonna go see if I can find your live broadcast from today. Happy sewing everyone.
Hello Maxine! Visiting with family is always nice and it sounds like you're having a great time. Wow, refinishing boat seats.. is that stuff hard to work with? Also, there ended up being 2 live streams because I lost Wi-Fi after the first 15 minutes on the first one. So then there is a longer one. Sorry for the confusion. Take care and have a great week!
I’ve just found your ladder video... Thankyou so much for sharing... Absolutely brilliant... I really like both versions & it appears to be fairly easy... This is a must do & I look forward to sewing it .... I’m going to try & do it as a QAYG ... 💖
Good morning, Brenda! I know that you and others were waiting for this and I apologize that it took me so long. I truly did mean to get it out sooner, but you know how life goes, some things crop up that we can't always plan for. I just now found you. And I subscribed, of course. I love this block. I am over the moon in love with this block, lol. Thank you so very much for sharing and all the info you gave. I am saving you to my playlist. I can’t wait to see all the other videos you have done in the past. I think I’m going to be binge watching you for quite a while. Thank you.😊🎉❤
Hi Marie! Thanks for the great tutorial! I was taught that pressing to observe side leaves a stronger seam. That makes sense, but if a quilt is sandwiched and quilted, what are the chances the seam will open up later? I’m with you, especially if I am hand quilting! Open those seams and save the fingertips!
Two years ago I decided to make a quilt out of my scraps from making masks. I designed it myself and it looks very similar to this block. The quilt turned out adorable and is one of my favorites still. This also got me addicted to quilting. So much color and fun!!
Hi Lora! Isn’t it a beautiful block? I will certainly let her know that you send along your thanks to Cyndy. I am so glad you enjoyed it and thank you for dropping by to comment. Happy sewing!
To make this, you'll need the following:
For Version #1:
* Ladder Sides - Two (starched) 20" x 1.5" strips of Black or Preferred Color for strips
* Various widths of inner ladder strips, at least 5" long, no wider than 2.25"
* Various widths of outer strips, 13" and down
For Version #2:
* Ladder Sides - Two (starched) 20" x 1.5" strips of Black or Preferred Color for strips
* Various widths of inner ladder strips, at least 5" long, no wider than 2.25"
* One (starched) 10" block that is a solid or tone on tone, cut diagonally as shown in video
Use 1/4" seams and a tighter stitch than usual.
I really like the look of this block! And I'm with you--I press seams open almost always!
Thank you Ms. Cindy!

Another great tutorial Marie, so colourful, and many thanks to Cindy (or Cyndy ) for sharing .the pattern.

Thank you, CINDY and Marie, for this wonderful pattern and tutorial. This has been a great session!
Hi Kathy! I'm so glad that you liked the video and enjoyed the content I provided. I was so excited to bring it to everyone because I knew this block was one that people were really interested in. Cyndy is an awesome lady! Thank you so much for dropping by and letting us know how much you liked it.
Thank you Cindy. Love the block
Thanks, Carol! I appreciate you watching and dropping by to comment. Happy sewing!
I love this block, I am in the process of making several ❤❤❤
Yay! Have fun!
Take care and have a great day
Beautiful block. Thanks Cindy for allowing Marie to share with us. I’m new to quilting and this is a block I will definitely try soon.
Hi Jammie! I'm so glad that you liked it and found the video helpful. Cyndy is a gem!

Here's to two awesome Cindy's!!!!

I love sewing my scraps into blocks. Yay for Cindy and yay for Marie. So pleased to have found this video.
And we are so happy that you like it. Thank you so much for watching and taking the time to comment. Have fun, making your blocks!
This is awesome! Thank you Marie and Cindy! Can't wait to make some of these! ❤️
Hi Trinette! I am excited for everyone that can make them now!! I felt like I was holding in a secret before I could show everyone, haha.. I'm so glad that you liked it. Thank you for watching and for dropping by to comment. It was great to see you on the live stream, too!

I'm so glad that you found me and that you enjoy this block. I love it, too! Thank you for subscribing and following me! Take care and happy sewing!
I love this! I need to get back to scrap quilts.
There's nothing like scrap quilt, is there? They're my absolute favorite!! Thank you so much for commenting, and it was great to see you on the live stream! Have a great afternoon and happy sewing!
Yes thank you Cindy love the pattern!
Thank you for the easy directions on how to make this quilt block. I like the scrappiness of it, and also like the solid color corners.
I know exactly what you mean, I just love the scrappiness of this block!
Good morning. What a fun block. I can't wait to sew them. I might make them smaller and turn them into a tote. Thank you Marie and Cindy.
That's a great idea, Doris! I have thought of so many different ways one could make them. I thought maybe a quilt with themed blocks like a 4th of July, a Christmas, an Easter, etc.
@@MariesScrappyCreations the possibilities are endless
I’ve designed this block myself quite a few years ago, lol. A very easy block to make. I used animal prints for a baby quilt. Love this design.
It’s a very useful block, that’s for sure!
Omg this is awesome. Love this new way for me to use my scraps. Great video!
I'm new and absolutely love this block thank Cindy for putting the pattern together.
Welcome!!! I am always saying, this is one of my most favorite quilt blocks ever!! I'm so glad you love it, too!!!
I’ve just found your ladder video... Thankyou so much for sharing... Absolutely brilliant... I really like both versions & it appears to be fairly easy... This is a must do & I look forward to sewing it .... I’m going to try & do it as a QAYG ... 💖

I have waited for a tutoral for this block for ages!!! Thank you so much!!!!
Good morning, Brenda! I know that you and others were waiting for this and I apologize that it took me so long. I truly did mean to get it out sooner, but you know how life goes, some things crop up that we can't always plan for. Either way, it's available now and everyone has access to it and I am looking forward to hearing about everyone's quilts. Thank you so much for watching and taking the time to drop by to comment. Happy sewing and enjoy your Sunday!

That block is gorgeous!
Thank you! I just adore this block! Thank you so much for watching and for taking the time to comment. I really appreciate that!
Exactly! I think it's personal preference because, as we agree, it's going to be stitched well anyway. 🥰
Two years ago I decided to make a quilt out of my scraps from making masks. I designed it myself and it looks very similar to this block. The quilt turned out adorable and is one of my favorites still. This also got me addicted to quilting. So much color and fun!!
Aww, I loved reading this. Thanks for sharing that story with me!
I would love to see a picture of your quilt!!!?
I absolutely love this block and your tutorial! Thanks Cindy for sharing!!
Hi Lora! Isn’t it a beautiful block? I will certainly let her know that you send along your thanks to Cyndy. I am so glad you enjoyed it and thank you for dropping by to comment. Happy sewing!
