thanks for the video. I had no idea what I wanted to do with a layer cake I purchased to make a baby quilt and this is coming together so beautifully! I will for sure make more of these hourglass quilts!
That turned out beautifully Kris! Thanks for sharing. And, thank you so much for showing the back of your table runner...I wish more people would show the backs of their quilts/runners because I think the backs are just as important as the fronts and the bindings are.
You are so welcome! Thank you for watching and commenting! I love the backs, too. Sometimes I pick boring fabrics, but I love that black and white print. I will try to remember to show the backs more. Thank you! Great suggestion!
I just received some layer cakes in the mail. Was planning on making your other layer cake pattern, but I like this one also and I have multiple cakes to choose from, thank you. I did cringe every time your hand moved until you closed your cutter. I have just recovered from a cut where my blade jumped my ruler.😊
When I was editing the video and saw the blade, I cringed, too. That is so unlike me! I cut myself years ago and know better. I hope your recovery went well. I love that you are going to make this one! So much fun! Thank you for watching and sharing. ❤️
I'm pretty new at this - but you made it look easy. I actually have 2 different layer cakes (I love to purchase fabric more than I like to sew) and this video really inspires me to make this quilt using them. Thank you, Thank you!
Yay! You are so welcome! I love that. you are going to make this! Please let me know if you have any problems once you get started. Happy to help! Happy stitching! ❤️
Kris, it amazes me how you can take one layer cake and create a lovely, large cozy quilt or a table runner! We’ll need to change your name to Houdini because you are definitely a fabric magician! 🤩🤩🤩
I am a novice with quilting. I have accomplished two so far. I just want to let you know you are a very good teacher. you explain the ways and whys and cautions to look out for. It is so enjoyable to watch and learn from you. thank you
This shows that you don't need a complicated pattern to make a beautiful quilt, you just need to choose the right fabric. And this is what you've done here. This fabric is lovely. Thanks for sharing the quilt and the runner. Both are stunning. ❤👍from Somerset UK
Hello there…new sub here. I have recently gotten back into sewing and purchased a jelly roll and a layer cake. I had no clue as to what I would make from it, so I went onto RUclips, hoping to find a gentle soul and a good teacher for this beginner. Lol. I like what you did here and I think I’m going to give it a go…I know I’ll be referring to your video a couple times for reference, but that’s how I’m going to learn. Thank you for sharing this video! Cheers 😊
Yay! Thank you for subbing and watching. I have many videos that will help you, and this is a great choice, too! Let me know if you have any questions. Happy to help! Glad you have picked up sewing again! ❤️
This is such a cute little quilt! It would be fun to make it scrappier by combining two different HSTs for each hourglass block, ending up with 4 different fabrics.
Loved your quilt and appreciate the detailed instructions on cutting all the finished squares that was very educational for me a new quilter and getting better as I learn all the cutting techniques and diagonal lines. I will watch your channel and subscribe
I have had a layer cake that I’ve wanted to make an easy straight forward quilt, and I think this is the one! Never made a QST that big, but I’m a fan, so let’s go make a quilt.
Really enjoy learning, watching and making your quilts. I am a lone sewer at home, so i find your tutorials a great learning tool and great to follow. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and making my day on many occasion’s. Regards Trish from Aust.
Kris, very colorful quilt. I currently have three quilt projects in the works. I am adding this one to my list simply because I haven't done an hour glass quilt. I make hourglass as part of larger blocks. This should be fun!! 🎶💐💖
I love layer cakes (OK - I love precuts😄) and I really, like this particular layer cake! Not anywhere near my usual color box - which is a good thing as I’m trying to climb out of my usual colors!!! And this size is perfect for the ones my guild makes and donates to a children’s crisis center (kids and Moms - kids all the way up to teenagers!). And also, would be easy to size down! I’m fairly new to your channel so working my way through many of your videos! Ans honestly, I never even thought about pressing the diagonally sewn seams before cutting - works for me!! Thanks👍👍
You are so welcome! So glad you like my videos! 🥰 Wow, what a wonderful cause to make quilts for. Quilts are magical. I am sure your quilts have helped many. Thank you so much for watching my videos and sharing. ❤️
Loved making your previous Just One Layer Cake quilt and am looking forward to making this one too!. That fabric is so lovely! Definitely got some Sew the Distance Bingo squares in this one-- "Set your seams." "I love, love, love it." "It's so pretty!"
😂😂😂 I love this! I should make up a downloadable PDF for viewers! I tend to say the same things, don’t I? I love, love, love that you are going to make this quilt! It really is so pretty! 🤩
Hi Kris! Thank you for this fantastic tutorial! No power in my neighborhood for 36 hours, so now I need to catch up with my favorite quilt channels. It was so cold.
Yay! So glad you like this one and could catch up! Thank you for your kind words. Glad you have power now and are nice and warm. This weather has been crazy!
I just found you yesterday and hit SUBSCRIBE immediately. I have been quilting for about fifty years and restoring or repurposing vintage and antique quilts and quilt tops as well as making and designing my own quilts. I really appreciate your techniques being so exacting and love your excitement and energy! It’s also fun learning about precuts and the patterns available using them. I will continue watching you on RUclips and hitting the like button each and every time. Cheers! ❤
Thank you so much! I sat with my precuts in the land of indecision and you have helped so much!! I’ve done the charm pack one, the other layer cake you showed, and plan on doing this as well. I like the way you demonstrate the techniques. Keep up the good work!!❤
Thank you so much! That's the best compliment! I always want to make sure people watching my tutorials can actually make the project. I am always thrilled when I hear this. Thank you! You made my day. 🥰
I always enjoy your videos. I will be making this in a lap quilt. Please make a video of this quilt top after you have completely finished it. It would be nice for you to give the yardage it took for any sashing if you add it and for the quilt back. Thanks😊
So glad you are making this! ❤️ Thank you so much! I am not sure if you are on facebook or not, but I do have pictures of the finished quilt there and I also discuss/show it in my February update video. It is here: www.sewthedistance.com/blog/five-quilting-habits-2024-feburary-update I didn't add a border or sashing to this one, but it would be beautiful with those added, too! Great idea! I hope all of this information helps!
I love your enthusiasm. The hourglass is a great block and went well with the colors you chose. I will not be trying it. I failed geometry and as my educational motto is find another way I have failed a few different ways. Yours is the 4th video I have watched this weekend. My head is spinning. 😵💫 I still enjoyed watching.
@@SewtheDistance it’s just something about angles and convex and … that sets off fire alarms in my brain. I actually am 56 today. The geometry problems all result in a formula that can be used to continue. I homeschool half of the world and I really do believe in finding another way. I will keep trying the geometry. I will also keep watching all 4 of you RUclipsrs that main my brain spin. I enjoy your videos.
My pleasure! Thank you so much! It does have a vintage look to it. Maybe that’s why I like it so much. Thank you for watching and for your kind words. ❤️
Love how you always work the fabric patterns together. You have a great sense of design….. I envy your talent. At the end of this particular video you show a table runner with a to die for backing. Would you share what fabric this is please? The oversized black and white flower print. I would appreciate any information. Thank you!🥰
Thank you so much! It is easier with layer cakes since the colors all go together, but I do appreciate your kind words. Thank you! The backing fabric is super super old. I think I bought it 15 years ago or so. I looked for it online using an image search and can't find it. I wish I could help! I only have a small scrap of it left now, too.
@@SewtheDistance, thank you for your quick reply. I’ll have to find something as close as possible to that pattern then. I’ll be keeping watch for more videos from you. 😊
Thank you! Glad you enjoy this video! I love it that you made this with charm squares! When working up this pattern, I tried it with charms, too. They make adorable little hourglass blocks! Thanks for watching and sharing!
Hi Kris. Do you have a video for the owl quilt that's over your right shoulder? I love owls. Midnight in the Garden is one of the few layer cakes that I really like all of the fabrics. I'm not a floral fan, but it's gorgeous. And made a gorgeous quilt.
Thank you so much! ❤️ The owl quilt gets a lot of love from viewers. I really should do a tutorial. 😀 I don't have one, yet. It is made from an AccuQuilt die, so I am not sure if it would be something people would watch, especially since not everyone has an AccuQuilt.
