correction (about statement made @ 11:20): no, it isn't so, not at all ; it basically is YOUR DOCTOR that is going to determine what you are going to have "access to" in health care, and it is based (up)on his DIAGNOSIS in fact
Snowden and Assange are not comparable. Snowden loves his country and wants transparency. Nothing he did was illegal - that's the point of whistleblowers, to point out when government is the one acting illegally.
Rick Santorum would have been a fine President. A principled, decent man willing to listen to both sides of any issue and cogently express his logic. This country has no use for that anymore.
I love this part of the show where Rick Santorum expresses with such emotion " this is a bill that puts over 700 billion dollars for Obama Care (actually the Affordable Care Act). Like 700 billion for America's health care is a rip off of the American people. I think he forgets about the 700 billion dollars that was given to Wall Street, and the banks not once, but twice starting in September 2008. Both giveaways (welfare to the rich) to the wealthy to save their precious money machines were set up by the Bush regime. The first as already mentioned in 2008, and the second (800 billion) was given during the first year of the Obama presidency in 2009. In actuality the bailout continues to this day. The low interest paid on bank savings accounts to American depositors is rejuvenating the wealth of the banks. For ten years now people who have retired with a nest egg have not been able to count on the normal interest rates of four to five percent they use to enjoy. Today if they get 0.05% to a half of a percent on savings they feel lucky. They are more than likely using up the principal of their savings accounts as they grow older leaving nothing for their kids when they pass on. Santorum is a typical Republican hypocrite---money to the wealthy is all fine, and dandy. Taxes to pay for services that improve the health and well being of the average American is money wasted, and a rip off.
True, but if they hadn't bailed Wall Street out, America's economy would have collapsed and the world would have been much worse off. It was the lesser of two evils.
Moral hazzard should have applied to all financial institutions loaded up on toxic assets. Realistic home appraisals and support to help homeowners stay in properties would have been a better alternative. A significant percent of properties were routinely overvalued prior to 2007 and before the 08 meltdown. The priority for most people financing homes was to have a place to live and establish roots. Not to suggest that some of those purchasers didn't inflate their income. However, restructuring their payment arrangements would have allowed many of them to continuing living in their homes and continue building equity. Of course a lot of people were just in the market to flip homes. However I still think most people just want a place to live, build a life and is also an asset. I firmly contend that would have been a better option than TARP. Where even after receiving taxpayer support, banks foreclosed on many borrowers (forcing then further behind) and over saturated the housing market with another glut of overpriced properties, mortgages and inventory. Paulson either lacked vision or was an idiot. Helping the consumer stay in their property would have helped them and the banks. Prioritizing the banks has done little to aid the consumer and only added additional restrictions to potential borrowers. I'm disturbed how borrowers were vilified when the financial institutions were the ones that created the environment with products as toxic as adjustable rate mortgages. ...just my opinion.
Jet Black aren't those just search engines? Aren't they getting the info from our service providers now? Just because a search engine doesn't store your data doesn't mean your service provider isn't. Right?
+Fat Acrobat That's true - I was going to suggest a logless VPN - that may thwart your ISP but apparently the CIA/NSA have hacked VPN encryption according to Wikileaks so if they have an interest in your history they can still access it. I'm no hacker but maybe there is an another way to keep your history private.
None of that matters. An ISP can still see every site you go to unless you encrypt all your data flow with a VPN service. We need more tech savvy politicians with the ability to explain how it all works. Tech is the future of everything and most people are illiterate.
Yeah she's the one interrupting everyone else. I suppose with Santorum, it's almost fine, but her voice is still harsher on the ears than his stupidity.
"mike pence wouldn't be worse" bill maher is wrong. mike pence would be worse because he's a principled conservative while trump is not. Trump is more flexible and can be persuaded to be for something like single payer healthcare. mike pence would probably be better in talking to foreign leaders but he would not be better policy-wise. he would have been for tpp if it weren't for trump. he was for tpp before he joined the trump bandwagon
Do people not realize how much money preventative screenings save? Or birth control? Or annual check-ups? Or dental cleanings? For almost every single medical condition there is, the earlier you address and treat it, the less expensive it is. If the only healthcare you have is an unaffordable ER, by the time it gets bad enough that you have to actually GO to the ER, not only are you probably dead already, but it's a hell of a lot more expensive too.
Ok, I think I have figured out your position in this latest crazy. You knew what was coming but this time you chose not to part take in it. Good for you. You learn. Not only would you not be a part of it, you chose to be very evidently there for me. You surrounded me all day (unwavering and obvious if not extreme), to make me feel sure. I Could be wrong but my instinct tells me that. It hasn’t failed me thus far. Well done William.
To all the idiots saying "Single payer system sucks cuz you have to wait 3 weeks for an appointment"....I would rather wait 3 weeks to see a doctor, rather than see a doctor today and pay 3 week's salary.
Politicians really show their age when they talk about internet policy, encryption, "hacking", censorship, really anything to do with modern tech. If they'd let other view points in *cough**cough*younger people*cough*, maybe we could have some informed conversations about these policies.
regarding Rick Santorum stating "people using the ER as a primary, I happen to know that for a ling time post 1985 and on, physicians (private/primary) advised patients to seek treatment via the ER. Slow is change, especially stuck in old advised behaviors. more education and ease of use for healthcare practises and benefits a must. Universal and simplistic health system can curb misinformation like nothing else.
Freedom to choose your health care provider is great, but not if you can't afford any of the myriad of options, or even IMO if the only options you can afford mean you have to pay a ton for each doctor visit.
Not sure how you have Rick Santorum, Roger Stone, and Hayden, the former head of CIA, on one show without the set imploding.

correction (about statement made @ 11:20): no, it isn't so, not at all ; it basically is YOUR DOCTOR that is going to determine what you are going to have "access to" in health care, and it is based (up)on his DIAGNOSIS in fact
Santorum for the WIN!
Snowden and Assange are not comparable. Snowden loves his country and wants transparency. Nothing he did was illegal - that's the point of whistleblowers, to point out when government is the one acting illegally.
Releasing classified information is against the law, but I do agree.
Hear!Hear!
@@ambroseburnside5764 Imagine all the immoral things that were and have been against the law throughout times.
Rick Santorum and Roger Stone? What, was everyone NOT crazy unavailable?
Neera would fit in really well on The Young Turks.
Rick Santorum would have been a fine President. A principled, decent man willing to listen to both sides of any issue and cogently express his logic.
This country has no use for that anymore.
I've met several people who moved from Kansas, Alabama, other red states to California for health insurance.
Duckduckgo.
Yes, or startpage.com is another one.
It was a kneejerk reaction to the one guy saying that there wasn't a search engine site that didn't collect and sell your information.
None of that matters. An ISP can still see every site you go to unless
you encrypt all your data flow with a VPN service. We need more tech
savvy politicians with the ability to explain how it all works. Tech is
the future of everything and most people are illiterate.
I like Neera! This is good because there is minimal interruption and talking over others compared to other panels.
Yeah she's the one interrupting everyone else. I suppose with Santorum, it's almost fine, but her voice is still harsher on the ears than his stupidity.
what her voice gotta do with anythin
doutzen angmohfish So, you like a corrupt hypocrite who created a smear campaign against Sanders?
Can you turn the volume up please.
Great debate!
this has to be one of the most despicable panels of all time, right?
No, really!
What is wrong with Roger Stone's head shape?
He's got a small cranium.
Must've been the "poison"....he received for being such a foe to the deep state. Lololololol.
"mike pence wouldn't be worse"
bill maher is wrong. mike pence would be worse because he's a principled conservative while trump is not. Trump is more flexible and can be persuaded to be for something like single payer healthcare.
mike pence would probably be better in talking to foreign leaders but he would not be better policy-wise. he would have been for tpp if it weren't for trump. he was for tpp before he joined the trump bandwagon
Roger Stone is the greatest.
First
Shittiest. Panel. EVER.
This shrill woman, is so annoying, I just can't what this anymore!
Ok, I think I have figured out your position in this latest crazy.
You knew what was coming but this time you chose not to part take in it. Good for you. You learn.
Not only would you not be a part of it, you chose to be very evidently there for me. You surrounded me
all day (unwavering and obvious if not extreme), to make me feel sure.
I Could be wrong but my instinct tells me that. It hasn’t failed me thus far.
Well done William.
As far as Pence is concerned, be careful what you wish for......
Assange is desperate to be relevant again. He is pitiful. Kinda like Stone.
Wow! Santorum kicked some liberal butt out there ;)
Nope!
He got his ass raped & put on a smug face!
When? Santorum is the guy who says we should ignore this nation's 240 year precedent of secularism.
To all the idiots saying "Single payer system sucks cuz you have to wait 3 weeks for an appointment"....I would rather wait 3 weeks to see a doctor, rather than see a doctor today and pay 3 week's salary.
This panel is the literal definition of swamp.
Except for Stone and Santorum
Impeachment is one thing... conviction and removal is something else. Just ask slick willie.
What an interesting group.
Politicians really show their age when they talk about internet policy, encryption, "hacking", censorship, really anything to do with modern tech. If they'd let other view points in *cough**cough*younger people*cough*, maybe we could have some informed conversations about these policies.
That could be the most obnoxious person on the planet...and the fact you know who I am talking about proves my point.
regarding Rick Santorum stating "people using the ER as a primary, I happen to know that for a ling time post 1985 and on, physicians (private/primary) advised patients to seek treatment via the ER. Slow is change, especially stuck in old advised behaviors. more education and ease of use for healthcare practises and benefits a must. Universal and simplistic health system can curb misinformation like nothing else.
Does anyone else feel like having a manuscript of speakers talking would help understand what each person is saying?
Why wasn't ICE there to arrest and deport Jose Antonio Vargas after this?
Does Rick understand the difference between a browser and a search engine?
Sam harris should be on every episode. he always makes sense.
The moment I saw Neera I couldn't watch anymore...
Freedom to choose your health care provider is great, but not if you can't afford any of the myriad of options, or even IMO if the only options you can afford mean you have to pay a ton for each doctor visit.
