I think it’s just got to be that you will spend 5 minutes every 2-4 days doing it. Really isn’t an issue once you have done so a few times but understand it’s not something we do for the fun of it. All the best with your future van.
Nice to see a sensible video showing how to empty the cassette, watched one a while ago by a popular motor home owner that was quite disgusting, the toilet and cassette area were vile and he had the cheek to wear gloves beside the fact that he did it totally wrong. You may have seen it. Not sure about putting toilet tissue seperate as we have never had a problem and use the same tissue as at home, but each to their own way if it works.
Finally someone that does not unscrew cap over the dump point,i hear of so many people dropping it in there!.Ours in Australia are quite large openings so even heard of the slide mechanism dropping in as well-pretty expensive boo boo.
I've been living full time in mine for three years, always put the toilet paper into the cassette, never had a blockage, never press the vent button when it's lower then the spout if you do you will get a shitty hand.
I have to admit something. I was thinking about something you said about the flap open, while I argued against it being closed while doing ones business. I must admit it's way easier with it open while business is taking place, and use less water. Only water needed to rinse/flush paper. 👍👍
@@LiveforTravel mine looks aftermarket. There's a hole in the emptying thingie, and it annoys me a bit. I can't just throw the cassette in the back of my Prius and drive off.
Out 2021 imala has removable wheels on our cassette, I know this because with the speed of a spider I caught one of them before I lost it in the disposal point.
That made me laugh… not at the thought that something had broken or come off; but your way of saying “the speed of a spider.” Yes I can imagine the disposal points have many deceased caps, wheels etc.
Great video, I didn't learn anything but was curious. We've had Motorhomes, campervans and caravans for best part of twenty years and emptied many, many cassettes. People cringe and shy away from this but it's basic human nature stuff! I guess having three small children I've seen a lot worse nappies!!! We even use a small amount of Thetford toilet paper (or similar) and never have any problems (tempts fate!). My tip is take your time, be methodical and follow good hygiene practices and you'll be fine.
Great advice. I actually don’t mind either. I think the modern cassette makes it about as convenient and clean as possible. Thanks for watching and your comments.
Just a quickie about paper in the cassette, we use the aquachem blue concentrate and Thetford paper and so far find the paper breaks down enough so as not to be a problem. Like you I tend to use a weaker mix than recommended because I tend to empty it each morning in case we go off in the MH.
Cassette-style toilets are less common in the US. It would have never occurred to me to empty it before driving. My truck camper uses the holding tank style and the idea of emptying it every time we drive somewhere seems like a real hassle since we are constantly moving.
Hi Paul very good video, i watch all your videos even tho im no newbe, we stopped putting paper into our cassette along time ago to, the chemicals have a big enough job as it is without breaking down paper too, so thanks again see you on the next one. Ps Alice is growing fast x
Haha. Thank you. Yes we think it best to keep paper away from the cassette completely. Alice is growing up fast which must mean I am growing old fast. Alice is currently 9 but thinks she is 19 😊 Thank you for your continued support.
If we close the valve each time we have used the toilet we have to remember to open it every time too. By opening the valve when arriving on site and only closing the valve before we leave negates the chance of someone using the toilet with the valve shut.
@@LiveforTravel you close the valves BEFORE you use it :) then fill a little water, then do your business and then open to let it go down there. And then close it again of course. In mine a fan turns on when opened.
My least favourite aspect of caravaning/ MH-ing. I am a leave the flap open but put the lid down kinda guy. I always empty the cassette before moving even if its just minimal contents. I do that just to keep the habit which is probably not a bad habit to have..
I've been full time only 6 months in my 2010 bailey pageant 2 berth but try this with flap open get about four pieces of loo paper all together and gently place above open hatch with back of fingers so as to seal the hole and if you are good you'll manage to do it without touching the loose sides. the next person just goes directly on top of the previous paper and they once again put three or four pieces of loo paper directly over the open flap just to seal the air in. It mostly works for me but then again it's just me and my little Jack Russell Buddy. Have a fantastic week
Haha. We were very aware that we had previously left some cable under the van and this particular video was filmed at Ferry Meadows in June. When we researched the video for EHU we decided that although the cable is not coiled, and never has been as I run the cable through the cable tidy to prevent me having to put it away in the garage or blowing away, the advice we read up on for the video said it was best to not have it underneath. Therefore all future videos will indeed follow the advice we are now aware of. Thanks for watching.

There are additives to use that help break down tp. I wouldn't fancy putting tp into a bag. Kind of defeats the whole purpose.
I think I'm missing something--why would you ever leave the valve open when not in use? Wouldn't it always be better to close it?
