Hi Phil, informative instructional video. One thing we also use is Happy Bowls. These are paper liners that you place in the bowl before commencing number 2 activity. The liner keeps the bowl clean and disintegrates in the same manner as toilet roll. They do add expense, but we prefer the method, it’s what persuaded us to move from the only number 1 brigade over to being fully self sufficient in the van. We’ve used this method for 2 years and have never had an issue with the liners causing blockages in the cassette when emptying. Cheers from John & Al.

Helpful vlog.i usually empty the flush tank into the cassette.then empty that at the elsan point before leaving site.also usually add a small amount of water into cassette before adding the green chemical.

Hello RR. The electric flush uses very little electric so if you used off grid it would use little of your battery life. The drainer on the manual does not normally have the drain tube making it difficult to empty the tank. I would recommend the Electric flush. Thanks for watching. Phil👍🙂

Very well explained Phil one thing we do different is instead of opening the cassette sliding plate I just pour the chemicals down the orange pipe. I've always used the blue chemicals but I think we'll give the "green" one a try. Looking forward to this series even old caravanners like us can still learning a thing or 2. Hi I am guessing you mean the watering can. I don't fill the water up with a hose as the force can damage to cistern mechanism. The watering can collapses to save space. There will be a video soon to explain it. Thanks Phil. 🙂👍
Some good tips there Phil especially about the green. We've been on some sites that insist on green / organic additive as they say the blue chemical kills the bacteria in the eco system. Cheers Rob

Good one Phil and an excellent idea for a series too, all in one place for Beginners has to be a good thing... 👍🏻 Just one observation; we have a Coachman as you know and it is fitted, for some inexplicable reason, a Dometic loo system. They have informed us that there is not a flush system drain, but it should suffice just to drain it into the cassette until empty, when needed. Not ideal and a bit of a waste if you ask me, but they didn’t, so heyho, we are lumped with it, for now... 🤷🏼♂️ 🤪 🧐

We used the Thetford aqua kem blue the first time we went away, then decided to give the aqua kem green sachets a go, much easier and less mess, open the blade and throw it in the toilet. There is usually a decent deal on eBay where you get 15 aqua kem green tablets and four toilet rolls for £18

We don't carry the watering can, we use a short dedicated hose that fits onto the washroom tap and goes out of the window and into the tank inlet so you can fill from the aquaroll. Saves space and more convenient, especially on a wet day!
Hi mate, was thinking of finding pitch to permenantly park a caravan, to stay there like a month, and then maybe rent out too Thought the septic tank emptying is not ideal and a tedious task What about renting a contruction site portable toilet cubicle? They rent them out for like £25 a week, includes a weekly service and clean in the price too. Their septic tanks are about 220L vs caravan 20l cassets This would make the caravan experience much more easy going. They also have a mini sink and water tap in the cubicles, most likely stored in a clean water tank. What do you think of this?
Hi There It sounds a good idea but I doubt any site would let you site Portable Loo on a pitch. Most folk only Pee in the Caravan loos and use the loo blocks for everything else. Empty the cassette is easy and simple to do. Thanks Phil👍🙂
Hi. The best way to go about this is to search the web for Caravan Parks with Seasonal Pitch rental. I would choose one fairly close to you so you don't have to battle the traffic every Bank Holiday or High Season. Thanks Phil

So tempted to make some "comments" LOL. If folk search the Practical Caravan YT site they will discover a video on Chemicals where the GURU discusses the chemicals in more depth. On the comments below you should be adding a small amount of water in with the chemicals.
We stopped using the the pink for the flush and gone with using zoflora (or other brands) it's cheap and get alot of mixes out of it and never looked back and never had issues with black bits it smell
Hi You should not tow with w full cassette. The main reason is it can have an effect on the rear of the Caravan as you tow, The Cassette can be emptied into a standard loo. I hope this helps. Phil🙂

I was always taught never to put the chemical in the top of the cassette as it ruins the rubber seal. You should always put the chemicals in the tube where you empty the cassette
Hi Annette. I suppose it’s up to the individual really. If you are careful doing from the top wouldn’t be an issue. Pouring into tube can be a pain as it can get stuck in the pipe. But as I said each to their. Thanks Phil 👍😊

Hi I am guessing that the toilet needs replacing. If so you can buy new direct from thetford or through a caravan dealer but they will put a bit on the price. If you want a second hand one then there are plenty of caravan breakers such as KTG. Thanks Phil 😊

Hi Dean. Without knowing which model and type I cannot really offer any advice. There are several Loos with different ways to flush. If its a manual flush it could be the seal on the lift handle which creates the vacuum to draw the water. If its electric flush it could be one many issues from the switch button, fuse, or the pump. Hi There. I left out this part as it depends on the chemical you use. Some break solids quicker than others reducing the smell quicker. Personal as we do not wild camp. We only use it to pee in and chemicals remove this smell. I hope this clears the matter up a bit more for you. Phil👍🙂

Hi Yes it is. You can fill it up full otherwise you will be constantly topping it up. In next weeks video I take a look at a great new invention to help fill the cistern up without making a mess. In was invented by a fellow caravanner. Hope this helps. Phil👍🙂

Hi Tom. Good question. No we don't use the loo sold in the caravan stores is not that good. A mid priced normal Loo will do nicely. Don't waste your money on the caravan Stuff. I hope this helps. Phil. 🙂👍
I was always taught never to put the chemical in the top of the cassette as it ruins the rubber seal. You should always put the chemicals in the tube where you empty the cassette
Hi Annette. I suppose it’s up to the individual really. If you are careful doing from the top wouldn’t be an issue. Pouring into tube can be a pain as it can get stuck in the pipe. But as I said each to their. Thanks Phil 👍😊

Hi I am guessing that the toilet needs replacing. If so you can buy new direct from thetford or through a caravan dealer but they will put a bit on the price. If you want a second hand one then there are plenty of caravan breakers such as KTG. Thanks Phil 😊

@@Itsmeandmyadhd Hi It depends on if you are using mains when sited. There are plenty of usb device on amazon. You can buy led lights that work off 12 volt and come with usb charging point. I have a video on the channel on how to do this. Thanks Phil

Hi Dean. Without knowing which model and type I cannot really offer any advice. There are several Loos with different ways to flush. If its a manual flush it could be the seal on the lift handle which creates the vacuum to draw the water. If its electric flush it could be one many issues from the switch button, fuse, or the pump. Hi There. I left out this part as it depends on the chemical you use. Some break solids quicker than others reducing the smell quicker. Personal as we do not wild camp. We only use it to pee in and chemicals remove this smell. I hope this clears the matter up a bit more for you. Phil👍🙂

Hi Yes it is. You can fill it up full otherwise you will be constantly topping it up. In next weeks video I take a look at a great new invention to help fill the cistern up without making a mess. In was invented by a fellow caravanner. Hope this helps. Phil👍🙂
