    Nice one Phil all the basics that us experienced caravaners take for granted beautifully explained. For the Newbies when emptying the cassette at the disposal point don’t shake it to death when rinsing out, a gentle swirling motion will do, this ensures you won’t dislocate the float mechanism. This is what switches on the red light when full as Phil explained.

    The handle. No one told me about the handle. I won't bless you with the detail but the sliding handle not being known about made a weekend abit awkward with me having to poke the leavings down the hole with a stick. Thanks so much. Phew, thank you for these videos.

    Another good , well presented video Phil.
    All good info - it’s easy to forget that what we as seasoned caravanners do without thinking about can be something a newcomer may have concerns about.
    When I returned to caravanning 3 years ago , it was channels like yours that not only helped me learn the basics , but gave me confidence to carry on.
    Thanks for all your tips and look after yourselves

    Hi Phil, informative instructional video. One thing we also use is Happy Bowls. These are paper liners that you place in the bowl before commencing number 2 activity. The liner keeps the bowl clean and disintegrates in the same manner as toilet roll. They do add expense, but we prefer the method, it’s what persuaded us to move from the only number 1 brigade over to being fully self sufficient in the van. We’ve used this method for 2 years and have never had an issue with the liners causing blockages in the cassette when emptying. Cheers from John & Al.

      Hello RR. The electric flush uses very little electric so if you used off grid it would use little of your battery life. The drainer on the manual does not normally have the drain tube making it difficult to empty the tank. I would recommend the Electric flush. Thanks for watching. Phil👍🙂

    Good one Phil and an excellent idea for a series too, all in one place for Beginners has to be a good thing... 👍🏻
    Just one observation; we have a Coachman as you know and it is fitted, for some inexplicable reason, a Dometic loo system. They have informed us that there is not a flush system drain, but it should suffice just to drain it into the cassette until empty, when needed. Not ideal and a bit of a waste if you ask me, but they didn’t, so heyho, we are lumped with it, for now... 🤷🏼‍♂️ 🤪 🧐

    We used the Thetford aqua kem blue the first time we went away, then decided to give the aqua kem green sachets a go, much easier and less mess, open the blade and throw it in the toilet. There is usually a decent deal on eBay where you get 15 aqua kem green tablets and four toilet rolls for £18

    Hi mate, was thinking of finding pitch to permenantly park a caravan, to stay there like a month, and then maybe rent out too
    Thought the septic tank emptying is not ideal and a tedious task
    What about renting a contruction site portable toilet cubicle? They rent them out for like £25 a week, includes a weekly service and clean in the price too. Their septic tanks are about 220L vs caravan 20l cassets
    This would make the caravan experience much more easy going. They also have a mini sink and water tap in the cubicles, most likely stored in a clean water tank. What do you think of this?

    • @lostweekendscaravan
      @lostweekendscaravan  3 года назад +1

    • @lostweekendscaravan
      @lostweekendscaravan  3 года назад

      Hi I am guessing that the toilet needs replacing. If so you can buy new direct from thetford or through a caravan dealer but they will put a bit on the price. If you want a second hand one then there are plenty of caravan breakers such as KTG. Thanks Phil 😊

      @@Itsmeandmyadhd Hi It depends on if you are using mains when sited. There are plenty of usb device on amazon. You can buy led lights that work off 12 volt and come with usb charging point. I have a video on the channel on how to do this. Thanks Phil

      Hi would still recommend you empty it. If it leaks you will have a mess to clean up. Plus it still adds weight. Thanks Phil🙂

    Is it just the chemicals you put in cassette?

    • @lostweekendscaravan
      @lostweekendscaravan  3 года назад

      The chemical goes in the cassette but measure and you use the Pink or In the flush tank.. I hope that helps. Phil🙂👍

      Hi Dean. Without knowing which model and type I cannot really offer any advice. There are several Loos with different ways to flush. If its a manual flush it could be the seal on the lift handle which creates the vacuum to draw the water. If its electric flush it could be one many issues from the switch button, fuse, or the pump. I hope this helps. Phil👍🙂

    Any comments on smells when dumping?
    Just watched this ruclips.net/video/s-Z8DdrtuVo/видео.html

    • @lostweekendscaravan

      Hi There. I left out this part as it depends on the chemical you use. Some break solids quicker than others reducing the smell quicker. Personal as we do not wild camp. We only use it to pee in and chemicals remove this smell. I hope this clears the matter up a bit more for you. Phil👍🙂

    Is this the part you fill to make the toilet flush?
    You said it was 15 litres, does that mean you fill it completely?
    I’m new to this lol, any answer would be massively appreciated!

      Hi Yes it is. You can fill it up full otherwise you will be constantly topping it up. In next weeks video I take a look at a great new invention to help fill the cistern up without making a mess. In was invented by a fellow caravanner. Hope this helps. Phil👍🙂
