Thank you so much. I haven't laughed so much in ages. You really are a tonic. On a serious note, for someone who has designs on living the boat life, that was very educational.

Man, Shaun laughing in the background is the best! I'm thankful that I have a RV (caravan) and I use a hose. I use Happy Campers powder - not sure if this is available there, but no smells. Thanks for letting Collin do it this time - much more entertaining!
Shaun is funny, too. You two make a perfect team. Neither one would be as good without the other. You are uniquely awesome as individuals. That is when you each talk to your friends(all of us) from your heart. And you have our hearts. 😊

OMG we are crying with laughter! But where were the outtakes??! And now are going to watch the composter episode. The fun never stops in our house! Thanks guys, for keeping us entertained ❤️
I have a weak stomach. I watched that vid, by covering the bottom half of the screen! When you were coughing because if the smell, so was I - and couldn't even smell it..... Not a glamorous vlog, but one that shows the everyday life on a boat. Great job👍
I didn't realize Smell-a-Vision had been created! The second poor Colin started emptying I swear I could smell it!!! LOL It is good to post. There are unpleasant sides to life. I have just discovered your channel, Jan 2022. Enjoying your journey. Your honestly. And all the laughter.
Colin, you made a dirty job fun......well, fun for me to watch. What a great laugh I had. Reminded me how grateful I am to have the toilet I have. As a mum I was treated to that smell at least twice a day for six years straight (3 children). You are just the best Colin. Greetings from California.
I don't envy you boaters with cassettes (or pump outs). Best decision I made was to remove the existing pump out loo and make my own "dry" compost type loo. I use the ash from my fire which suppresses all odours and helps break down the solids. The liquids is separated and stored in 5L containers for disposal in the bush away from the canal. I've only ever visited an elsan point once and that was enough. With the compost loo, I use no chemicals, there's no smell and little fuss.
Exactly the reason we're switching to composting. We wanted one before but have been waiting for one that we think will compliment the boat design, which we think we've found.
Hi Colin and Shaun , I can tell you a very funny story regarding emptying portable toilets . . I worked for an airline company here in Australia. A colleague of mine was on toilet duty emptying aircraft toilets . This particular day it was a 747 . Now this had arrived from overseas so all the loos would have been chock full ! To access the outside drain you had to stand upon the “ honey cart “ as the toilet truck was nicknamed and put the pipe and connector into the access point under the rear of this huge plane . Once the pipe was engaged you had to pull a plunger so the contents could pour into the truck’s large tank. On this occasion something had blocked the pipe and nothing appeared to be pouring down the pipe! Thinking it was the truck pipe my poor colleague disengaged the pipe whilst standing on this truck and released it , only to be covered in a deluge of muck , nowhere to run ! Poor fellow jumped luckily not breaking any bones ! I was on the watering truck replenishing the potable water not too far from the crap truck . So aimed the hose on my colleague washing him down . Meanwhile the tarmac was covered in blue foul smelling liquid and toilet paper . This sort of accident happens occasionally at airport so Colin you have all my sympathy , poor Shaun must have a tough constitution lol .
Reminds me of when I emptied our cassette some years back and it sounded like a machine gun on the steel bowel! Found out later our grandson had emptied a bag of glass marbles into the boat toilet! 😂😂
This is a really great video, as usual well done. We do some tourist-coach vacations and although they all have toilets the chauffeur always keep them locked up. Now finally I got a full an honest description of how it works, which brings the next point: I am not going to rent a camping car. And finally, all the river/canal boats I rent have a big storage tank, never smells and I don’t have to empty them. So again, thank you for the explicit video well documented as usual 🤗👍
😂😂😂😂 Well done! I worked in the NHS for 30 yrs and the only way I coped with bedpans and poo was.....by not having any sense of smell.....otherwise my career would’ve been a lot shorter!! 😂😂😂
You guys are officially superstars. While no-one wants to face it, this is a side of boating that everyone needs to know about. An excellent vlog, gents.
My wife and I traveled full time for 6 1/2 years in our caravan in Australia, we never used any cassette toilet chemicals at all (nasty stuff that only disguises the smell and doesn't break down the waste, it also contains formaldehyde) we only used Napisan or to be correct, sodium percarbonate, this breaks down the solids, kills the bacteria and smells and is safe (no formaldehydes). We used to buy the Aldi equivalent in 3kg tubs. 2 desert spoons full in a little warm water to start with then 1 teaspoon after each toilet use. The product is an oxygenation and as it works it's by product is water. Another plus is it is totally safe in septic systems unlike many normal toilet chemicals. No bleaches or piney smells needed either. these actually inhibit the oxygen action.
that's incredibly interesting. I'd like to chat a bit more about your experience with emptying it - does it smell?? we're pondering which way to go (toilet wise) in our caravan reno. compost/cassette or nothing (after watching this video hubby and children have all been put off!!)
@@katrinamcdonnell4521 Very little smell if any, emptying the cassette is never a pleasant task but even my wife used to do it occasionally so couldn't have been that bad.

Good job, Colin!!! Brought back memories of the first time I emptied a cassette from our travel van. Worst job in the world so also kuddos to Shaun for taking on that task!! Really enjoy following your travels from way over here in the Pacific Northwest, USA. Safe travels :-)
The FIRST time you've ever done that??? I'm sure this exercise will ensure that you give Shaun a big hug and a kiss and tell him that he's your hero every time he empties your loo.
Hilarious, brave, honest - exactly as it is - loved it! Brought back happy memories of the 'walk of shame' (as we named it) while staying for a glorious week in Limehouse Basin in April 2011. It did occur to me that clamping one of the cones, that pets have around their necks when they've been to the vet, onto the discharge pipe would add splash protection - but then it's just one more thing to clean and store!! Thank you for brightening-up lockdown!
Well that was different, best laugh I have had since Friday, at least you found a point that was working , most of the boaters I speak to say they are all knackered, I am so glad our boat has pump a out loo. Thanks for the video guys, X
Being a funeral director in the states, my dad taught me early how to deal with foul smells. His sage advice? Breath in and OUT only through your mouth, like when you have a cold and your nose is stuffed. It's never failed me yet! We had a cassette in a camper and I never smelled a thing :-)
Full respect for the nitrile gloves! Around 30 years ago I always copped for emptying the chemibog bucket at our worksite - it was seen as the Head Honcho's job and I was wearing that hat.
You have cheered up a very chilly afternoon we have one of those toilets in our touring caravan but we have a no poo rule, because we are always based on a campsite so I don’t mind emptying it 🤣 a big thumbs up to Shaun for doing the last 6 months. 👏👏👏👏👏

Hi Colin, great video again, made me laugh the whole way through especially when Shaun started laughing, but I know how you feel we gave a summer house with a compost toilet and you guessed its me that gets the great job of cleaning it. Again thanks for brightening the day.
Here in Ontario Canada, we use a powder product called: "Happy Camper"in our cassette toilets. It breaks everything down to a liquid, and keeps it from smelling!
That was so funny! Well done for showing the less glamorous side of boating life - you won't ever see Tim or Pru doing that! You can greatly reduce the splash-back if you empty the loo contents against the sloping side of the pan, rather than pouring it straight into the centre. That way it runs down into the pan without splashing. That was a VERY clean elsan place!
Hi Guys. I used to have the "pleasure" of this chore when we owned a Motorhome and Caravan - I was fortunate because the sites we used always had the emptying stations outside so smell wasn't so bad - Oh yes also I have no sense of smell which also helped lol! - Great video - I can't wait for episode 2 this week. Keep warm and safe. Clay x. PS Colin it's only poo LOL.
Aww bless you!! You chose one of the cleanest stations to do it.....and you were very thorough and conscientious. Ive seen some awful conditions in other sani stations (no dreadful descriptions!!) Im afraid it would have to be the expensive macerating pump out for me if i lived aboard (or a Cinderella)
Yeah, we changed our toilet because of the UGHGHGH 🤣 We now have a composting / seperating toilet. Have a look at our video all about it, it really is a great toilet. ruclips.net/video/4qgHnfB5cFw/видео.html
Hello from America!!! Love watching you guys on the canals of the UK. Beautiful! Here we use an RV sewer hose that gets attached to cassette for emptying, no need to look at the stuff....clean as usual including hose and stow away for next time. You will have to rig it a bit to get to work correctly, but well worth it. Happy Cruising!!
Reminds me of Caravan holidays when I wer a kid. My dad used to go and empty in the middle of the night cos he found the whole exercise embarrassing in daylight LOL!!
Well, guys, we love to watch your vlogs while eating dinner, needless to say, we did not watch this while eating, We lived in a caravan for a few years and always used the blue liquid it killed everything that went down the Loo and masked the smell, especially at emptying time, the only time it failed us was when I had food poisoning, the day after I Lent down to pull the front lever and the dam thing had a blowback in my face, just what you needed when you feel bad, with us it was empty swill out and put back, Colin I have to say you made that into a true work of art. this is Paul and Kelly (I'm from Lancashire) stock in Florida, trying to save for a narrowboat to come back home.
I am so glad we have a pump out toilet. If there was any doubt or thoughts of changing to a cassette. It just flew out of the window with that vlog. Thanks guys.( Shaun you need a medal). ;-)
@@FoxesAfloat Shitting in the woods poses a threat of being caught with your pants down. PMSL.. Blame it on the dog and don't forget to kick the leaves back over it. Poor Dillan. x
Nice one Colin, was that after the curry night? reminds me of the shawshank redemtion film......... "Andy dufresne, the man who crawled through 500 yards of $hit and came out clean the other end" thanks for the laugh guys.
Just got in from working a night shift, this vlog has cracked me up good and proper. Thank goodness you blurred out the emptying of the doings into the elsan. I now know a certain lady in my life who will be just like Colin, never going to empty a pot, should we be lucky enough to get a narrow boat. Absolutely brilliant video, as always. Keep up the great work team NB Silver Fox.
I have a pump out system. I was wondering whether to change it in favour of a cassette toilet as a pump out is quite expensive. After watching this entertaining video, I have decided to stick with the pump out. Or go for a composting model!
Colin, I felt sorry it was so awful for you, but I laughed so hard. I heated up supper just before I sat down to watch the vlog and knew I was in for it with the warning about not eating at the beginning. Thank you for blurring out the effluvia as I was hungry enough not to wait. I'm not sure my stomach would have been strong enough to handle the sight while actively eating. I would have been retching too. That composting toilet sounds like a good idea!
As a caravanner who would like to be on the water, Colin, i have to say you really are a softy. I find the green organic toilet liquid leaves the sweetest smell in our casette. Don't you open the top flap to see if you've got rid of any residue (toilet tissue gets wrapped around the float arm) saving all that water flushing till it runs clean. Within a few hours you will only be making it filthy again so all the "over the top" cleaning is wasted. Excellent VLOG though. Laughed all the way through.
That was awesome! I know it was about the 'Toilet', the 'Bog' the 'Khasi' the 'Throne', the Dumping Ground', the, 'Sh*thou%e', etc, etc, but that was a side of life that we don't often see, so thank you guys for showing it as it is, full Kudos, and happy boating..
Now THERE'S a video I probably didn't need to see...naw! Just kidding. Although I AM a bit surprised that you didn't have Shaun put the kettle on for a nice cuppa after you had your shower! All kidding aside...it's fun that you did this. The "ins and outs" of your life are EVER so entertaining. And the production values are through the roof! Thanks for the education, and have a great weekend, guys... J.

That is so cool! Well in demonstrating the warts n all of a cassette servicing! But Ooooh that seals splashing out (doh) on Cinderella incineration toilet, no matter what the cost! There's so much more to that cassette than just emptying - give it enemas until it comes out clear! Lol! But love this new series of practical canal boat living! Clearing the prop will be a good one! Cheers Colin x (hope you enjoyed the scrub in the shower!)
Cheers, Mike. We're changing to a composting loo. Not keen on how much energy the incinerators use. Saying that, I must have used 500 gallons of water in this vlog so who am I to talk about wasting resources? 💩 😂

Comedic gold. As an RV owner here in the states, I am quite familiar with black water empties. Some have been the stuff of nightmare lol.
If anyone wants me I’ll be in the woods with my newspaper 💩🙈
No sense of smell. You'd be ace at this then 💩 😂
Aww bless you!! You chose one of the cleanest stations to do it.....and you were very thorough and conscientious. Ive seen some awful conditions in other sani stations (no dreadful descriptions!!) Im afraid it would have to be the expensive macerating pump out for me if i lived aboard (or a Cinderella)
Pump outs are even worse! 😂 I think incinerating toilets waste too much energy. We're changing to a new style of composting soon.
Foxes Afloat oh....would be interested to hear more about that in due course🙏
Best one yet gentlemen and very informative. Thank you. Oh, and I was having lunch while watching but that was ok.
Ewwww! Nothing brown I hope 💩 😂
Foxes Afloat home made beef stew. Go figure lol
We laughed so hard here watching this, so so funny. I've been there before and got the splashed back t-shirt.
'The splashed back t-shirt' 😂😂😂
Laughed out loud several times! However, I was always curious so thank you.
It’s a pleasure 🙈💩👍🏻
OMG! I was about to buy one of these but UGHGHGH after watching your video, I think I'll look at other options. Thank you for the explicit video! :)
Yeah, we changed our toilet because of the UGHGHGH 🤣
We now have a composting / seperating toilet.
Have a look at our video all about it, it really is a great toilet.
ruclips.net/video/4qgHnfB5cFw/видео.html
Laughed so hard I nearly added to the smell. Just love that sound, normally reserved for the day after a vindaloo🤣
Ewwww! 💩 😂
You have made my evening, I'm really sorry but i laughed my head off. I've emptied plenty of cassettes so feel your pain.
Don't be sorry! 💩 😂
🤣😂Your most informative video yet! Gives new meaning to "one for the road!" See you friday.😃
Haha! We'll be there! 💩 😂
After this video I will never buy a caravan! I ran to wash my hands after watching it!
But it was so hilarious - it's an instant sub!!
🤣🤣🤣🤣
Welcome to our channel ❤️
Laughed so hard I almost passed out and peed myself, good work Colin....
Oh, jeez! Are you okay? 😂🙈💩
A very realistic emptying of the cassette. Best loo related vlog-umentary on RUclips so far!
10/10.
He he! Thank you, Grant! 🙈💩
Thanks for this. Convinced me to avoid a cassette toilet like the plague.
Yeah, not good 🤣
Hello from America!!!
Sounds a great idea but we got rid of that toilet for a better one 👍🏻
Reminds me of Caravan holidays when I wer a kid. My dad used to go and empty in the middle of the night cos he found the whole exercise embarrassing in daylight LOL!!
Haha! I totally understand. My reaction was embarrassing 😂
Ah, my stomach turned reading that! Poor guy 🤢
I think we can all agree Shaun is an absolute f@#$%^& hero!!!
Agreed 👍🏻
I am so glad we have a pump out toilet. If there was any doubt or thoughts of changing to a cassette. It just flew out of the window with that vlog. Thanks guys.( Shaun you need a medal). ;-)
Nah! We had a pump-out on our old boat and hated it. I'm just gonna shit in the woods from now on 💩 😂
@@FoxesAfloat Shitting in the woods poses a threat of being caught with your pants down. PMSL.. Blame it on the dog and don't forget to kick the leaves back over it. Poor Dillan. x
Hahaha, I agree with Hayley Sowter. lol. I think you guys are a hoot! Love all your vlogs!
Nah! I’ve been caught with my pants down enough times to stop caring 😂
Nice one Colin, was that after the curry night? reminds me of the shawshank redemtion film......... "Andy dufresne, the man who crawled through 500 yards of $hit and came out clean the other end" thanks for the laugh guys.
I'm not emptying it again and I'm definitely not crawling through it! 💩 😂
This may just rate as the funniest video I've seen on RUclips. Superb as ever gentlemen. Thank you
Haha! Glad you enjoyed it, Malcolm 💩 😂
Sorry but that was so funny, I nearly dropped my cup of tea I was laughing so much. 😂
😂😂😂
superb guys best laugh ive had in a while.... glad your keeping my boat clean ,,,literally lol take care guys
Your cassette is proper loved ❤️💩 😂
Just got in from working a night shift, this vlog has cracked me up good and proper. Thank goodness you blurred out the emptying of the doings into the elsan. I now know a certain lady in my life who will be just like Colin, never going to empty a pot, should we be lucky enough to get a narrow boat. Absolutely brilliant video, as always. Keep up the great work team NB Silver Fox.
Thanks, Dave! 😂🙈💩
Nobody shits roses, indeed :-))) Well done, sir. And hope your man gets a big hug for doing this every time. Well, sure he gets one...
Yes (after he's showered) 💩 😂
@@FoxesAfloat Hahaaa, bet this :-)))
I have a pump out system. I was wondering whether to change it in favour of a cassette toilet as a pump out is quite expensive. After watching this entertaining video, I have decided to stick with the pump out. Or go for a composting model!
Yes! A macerator pump is great, or you could invest in a composting toilet. A composter would have no smell EVER. I use a macerator in my motor coach.
We're getting a composting loo. Watch this space. Its a good one 💩 😂
@@FoxesAfloat Yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Brilliant video. Thanks for making me smile so much. Love you guys & really looking forward to watching your other videos.
Glad you enjoyed it
Wish I’de known you were at Red Bull Warf I only live half a mile away and we walk there quite a lot.
It was lovely. Not the horror we'd been warned about. 💩 😂
Yeah, we’re switching to composting 👍🏻🙈💩
As a caravanner who would like to be on the water, Colin, i have to say you really are a softy. I find the green organic toilet liquid leaves the sweetest smell in our casette. Don't you open the top flap to see if you've got rid of any residue (toilet tissue gets wrapped around the float arm) saving all that water flushing till it runs clean. Within a few hours you will only be making it filthy again so all the "over the top" cleaning is wasted. Excellent VLOG though. Laughed all the way through.
💩 😂
That was awesome! I know it was about the 'Toilet', the 'Bog' the 'Khasi' the 'Throne', the Dumping Ground', the, 'Sh*thou%e', etc, etc, but that was a side of life that we don't often see, so thank you guys for showing it as it is, full Kudos, and happy boating..
Glad you enjoyed it, David x
Is it just a coincidence that you posted this today, or did you know that today is World Toilet Day! No kidding, it's a thing!
We knew 😉
i watched through my fingers but was soon rolling around laughing thanks for cheering me up guys braver man than me Colin
Your turn next time. That was the deal, right? 💩 😂
@@FoxesAfloat hahaha 10 years of cleaning aircraft toilets has scared me for life
I wasn't even there and I'm dry heaving and gagging. LOL
Yeah, proper grim mate 😬🤯
Now THERE'S a video I probably didn't need to see...naw! Just kidding. Although I AM a bit surprised that you didn't have Shaun put the kettle on for a nice cuppa after you had your shower! All kidding aside...it's fun that you did this. The "ins and outs" of your life are EVER so entertaining. And the production values are through the roof! Thanks for the education, and have a great weekend, guys... J.
Cheers, John. Glad you (kinda) enjoyed it 😂💩
I was laughing so hard but if that was me I would been using a hazmat suit, nose plugs and 20 masks. 😂😂😂
Yeah, we just ditched the toilet 😂
I was thinking of exactly the same thing, but with a gas mask instead !
I kind of knew what I was letting myself in for but I watched anyway ..... I'm not particularly religious but I thanked the Lord God Almighty for the timely use of pixelation. Erm, well thanks for an informative vlog delivered in your usual way.
Ah, he's not going to help you on this one, James 💩 😂
Very much appreciated the pixelation. The sound was graphic enough, though!!
🤣
That is so cool! Well in demonstrating the warts n all of a cassette servicing! But Ooooh that seals splashing out (doh) on Cinderella incineration toilet, no matter what the cost! There's so much more to that cassette than just emptying - give it enemas until it comes out clear! Lol!
But love this new series of practical canal boat living! Clearing the prop will be a good one!
Cheers Colin x
(hope you enjoyed the scrub in the shower!)
Cheers, Mike. We're changing to a composting loo. Not keen on how much energy the incinerators use. Saying that, I must have used 500 gallons of water in this vlog so who am I to talk about wasting resources? 💩 😂
Put the lid on when you shake for God's sake. 🤣
Nope 💩 😂
Hi colin and Shaun , omg I just sat down to have lunch haha Well done Colin I was raised on a big farm with a outhouse had to take the bug spray , Shaun got a laugh x
👍🏻🙈💩
The sound of lumps was the worst bit haha!
Ewww, thanks for reminding me 😂
Brilliant guys, absolute gold, got over a whole load of information whilst being one of the funniest things I've watched in a while so thank you. P.S. Colin don't try to do one on most campsites, they're normally a big sloped pit with a hose and a hose pipe.
I'm NEVER doing it again, EVER! I'd rather shit in the woods like the bears do from now on 💩 😂
Narrow boat pots and politicians should be changed often, and for the same reason. ;-)
Be fun if we could get rid of the politicians in the same way as we empty the pot 💩 😂
@@FoxesAfloat very true, Just remember to use shoulder length gloves so you don't get any politician residue on you. LOL! Keep up the great videos guys. Love watching them here in the USA (where we have similer problems with our politicians).
Absolutely hilarious !!! Wish everyone took that much care and time in the elsan point - seems to me most people open the door, throw it in and make a run for it. Not a pleasant place to while away the hours lol
I'm just glad it was a clean one and not in the height of summer 💩 😂
Bloody hell! By the sound of that thing gurgling away, there must have been more brown trout in there than a mountain stream!
Ewwww... Don’t remind me 🤢
OMG I was in stitches watching Colin empty the cassette so funny. 😂🥰
🤣
