Thank you for posting this video. I broke our cassette workings whilst giving it a vigorous clean but my husband was well impressed when i was able to take the top off and fix it.
Great video, thank you. The float had come away from shaking my cassette too vigorously during emptying and cleaning so the red light stayed on permanently. I learned from another video that people have dislodged their floats and lost them down the toilet during emptying so I no longer shake. Just a rhythmic rock back and forth from now on! Trying to refit it through the small flap hole is a nightmare and I had no idea that the whole mechanism could be removed. Made the access and the refitting job so much easier. Great tip about using a block of wood to undo it as well. Thanks again.
You are welcome Leo! Thanks for watching! I could see those floats being lost when emptying the cassette! Rocking it back and forward is a much better idea than shaking it, good tip 😊👍
Thanks. Broke the blade mech while cleaning. You have saved me around £120 as I was going to buy a new cassette. Took the mech out and it was an easy fix.
Great video, we've just picked up our motorhome and the previous owner didn't give much advice at all on emptying and cleaning, he said just chuck the chemical here and off you go! I've since worked out the proper emptying process and now I know the right way to clean it, so thanks a million!
I want to thank you so much you have saved me from great expense. I accidentally knocked off the white plastic part of the flap mechanism and could see from the internet that a replacement whole mechanism could be purchased however as no parts were broken I just needed to know how to remove the unit to enable me to reassemble which your video did perfectly.
Really appreciate the video. Something in my door mechanism got out of wack and I did not trust myself to jigger it back in place. Seeing the inside of yours let me know what is was supposed to look like and I fixed it! Thanks, MM
Great informative video on an essential subject - toilet maintenance. This gave me the knowledge to fix the faulty Thetford on our Narrowboat ! Many thanks and enjoy your travels . Bernard from England ( currently moored at Norbury junction )
Your welcome Bernard! The video actually came about as I broke something inside the cassette and couldn’t figure out how to get into it haha. Glad I could help 😊
Hi, we have a motorhome and have a small utube channel in the uk, we really enjoyed your video and good to show the workings of the cassette. In uk we spray the seals with silicone seal lubricant x
Ah good idea! I might do my seals too as they get quite dry over time. I was just watching your steam train adventure to Whitby! Love those old steam trains 😍
@@AdventuresWithRosy aah thank you for watching one of our videos, we try to upload 2 a week although at Christmas and NewYear it goes a little quieter. There is another steam train video, if you look for Burrs country Park , thats in Lancashire, north west of uk. Thank you for watching x
Thanks for the vid mate! Fixed me loo. It's an older one and the top doesn't twist off but was able to unscrew it ... First 2 visible screws and then you have to lift the 2 little covers over these little side bars to unscrew 3 more each side. The plastic cover that sits over the opening mechanism (the blade) had dropped down so you couldn't fully open or close "the gap". Was able to get a screw driver under the cap and lift it up and now everything works fine. I've subscribed and look forward to catching up on your travels. I've been travelling around Ireland and a bit of Europe for a year.
Perfect info cheers, came from tents to caravans and round valve fell inside. Normally I'd get a screwdriver to open things lol. Never knew about the arrows so thanks again
Hi Rosy, Thanks for the amazing video and excellent details. I think I have broken some internal parts(missing the plate under the opening and half-moon parts) under the lid. I wonder if I can buy/change only the lid or if I must change the whole cassette? Thanks in advance.
Thanks for video. We have a new motorhome in the UK (we are Aussies on a year long holiday) and the closing mechanism has to fallen or broken off into the cassette. From watching your video hopefully I can reattach it in the morning or the toilet won't close! Thanks
Awesome great work! A year long adventure in the UK sounds nice! How are you enjoying it? Would love to do a similar thing in the USA sometime but I guess not anytime soon haha. Good luck with the cassette 😊👍
@@AdventuresWithRosy just started an eight day trip to the Scottish NC500. Hopefully weather will hold out for us. This is our fourth trip ever so fingers crossed it goes well. Luckily we aren't in full lockdown so can head off. Back home to Western Australia about May/June after hopefully a trip to Europe. Cheers
Thanks for that great video and have now replaced my lip seal. However, when standing the cassette up on end full of clean water. it's now leaking out of the orange switch to open the valve and also the big rubber washer around the outside of that twist and lift off bit - do you know what this washer is called as I can't find any reference to it and is there a way to stop the leak at the valve switch? Thank you
Sorry I missed your comment some how! That leak sounds old, Is that the orange button the let’s the air in or that orange switch/dial that you turn to open to flap?
great video, thanks a bunch. the piece of wood to open the cassette is a great tip. as a matter of fact, I use a piece of wood of the full width of the cover ( ca 3.5 inches), so that the pressure is spread on the full length of lid. always afraid of breaking these possible fragile pieces of plastic!
Thanks for watching Benoit! Yeh that still plastic does feel like it could break, good idea using a piece of wood that covers the full width! Had not thought of that 👍
Thanks champ your repair seems to be the closest to my problem. I must not have closed the flap off properly before pulling out the cassette and when I did it was a little stubborn so I yanked it out, emptied it and NOW it wont go back in allowing my to open or close the toilet. I did notice though that the red tap on the cassette remains on a angle so I am hoping if I open it up I can re align it??? well here goes.
I some how popped the half moon plastic part off when I pushed a jet handle into the hole to watch it out. That’s then stopped the disc from opening and closing. Does the half moon need to be in place for the mechanism to work?
@@AdventuresWithRosy it’s on the underneath next to the disc and so of partially wraps account the circular opening. Seems to have a little edge to stop the mechanism going past a certain think now I’ve opened it today. I’m going to try and screen longer screws in to secure it the plastic has become better and snapped away from the lid
Good informative video. There was no mention of lubricating the rubber seal. We were told to use olive oil only on the bottom of the seal where the plastic disk meets it. Stops it from drying out also.
Good question? That button allows air to flow through the cassette as you empty it, so when you tip it up to empty it press that button at the same time and it will empty a lot better 👍
Hi. It would be helpful to see how the cassette is inserted and removed. The handle appears to have a locking mechanism (?) and needs to be seated properly after insertion.
@AdventuresWithRosy all good it turns out that the issue is a tiny piece of plastic that open and closes the blade to the cassette. So bigger job. It appears to be one piece with hoses and electrical. 😒
To ease up opening the cover , I've filled the tank up with 5 litres of very hot (NOT boiling) water. after 2-3 minutes , I could open the cover by hand.
@@AdventuresWithRosyok awesome! We want to buy a travel trailer that has a cassette toilet. We usually only got camping for 2 nights. Family of 4. So we will be good for the entire journey. Thanks!
Thanks for watching and yes you are right I forgot to put gloves on early on in the video 😂 Don't worry I gave it a good clean beforehand 😉

Ah good point Trevor! Thanks for the information 👍 I had heard of people using Vaseline but I wasn’t sure if that was good advice or not 😊
Silicone is also OK. Don't use mineral oils on plastics. In the long term it causes thd plastic to become brittle.

Why are you throwing toilet paper down the toilet?
Instead of putting it in a rubbish bin? It’s just what we do down here in New Zealand 😊 all toilet paper goes gets flushed.
Thats what the blues for to break it all down.
