- I show you how I clean my Thetford Cassette Toilet from our motorhome, but also commonly used in Caravans, Campervans, RVs, Boats and Trucks. I normally do this job twice a year, in the Spring and Autumn.

Great video Bob I didn’t know that I could take it apart like that to clean, I just use the toilet cleaner and hope for the best lol just goes to show after 6 years of motorhome life, you can teach an old dog new tricks 🤣🤣

Another very informative video,I never knew you could take the cassette apart like that.Me and Michele have been motorhomers for 2 years now and live on the Wirral.We have often wondered if you have ever been to wirral country park site at thurstaston.It is a lovely site with plenty of dog walks around the country park and steps down onto the lovely beach and best of all a beautiful cafe with some of the best sandwiches,coffee and of course delicious cakes and very very dog friendly.Keep up the good work and hope to meet you Jenny and pops some time on a campsite.

Very useful video showing how to access the different seals and lubricate them. I cleaned our cassette and noticed you forgot mention one seal....the filler cap has a sealing gasket :-)

Thanks for the video Bob. I did follow up with the Beckwiths showing how to use the loo and clean the flush tank. You said your Swift draws flush water from the on board fresh tank. Without asking a silly question...how do you get the pink flush liquid with the flush water? Is it some sort of premix system?
Thetford do a toilet rinse spray bottle. It's not essential, just helps it smell nice.
I can't believe I've been putting up with the glugging when emptying cassette when all I needed to do was press the top button . My feet will be splash free from now on. My shoes thank you Bob

Great Video Bob! How well does the blue Thetford Cassette Cleaner solution remove the hard scale buildup on the inside of the Cassette? If the cleaning solution doesn't work well at removing the scale have you found any other product that works well?

Good morning Bob just found your channel and subscribed. I’m recently retired. Had caravans in the past but always fancied a motor home. I have a few concerns though ie Restrictions once on site if you want to go out for a short trip. Parking during high season if you visit small towns etc I realise you tow a small car but I don’t think that option would work for me. Shall I go back to a caravan? The other option I’m considering is a VW California but can I cope with the restricted living space. There’s only me, my partner and a large dog! Decisions decisions pros and cons for all. Anyway I’m looking forward to viewing your recent videos and will follow you in your future travels.Thanks Charles
We often use the motorhome for short trips out, usually find parking spots. If we are tidy in the motorhome, we we can often get going in 10 minutes, so it's not usually a problem. I think being organised and tidy is the key. But having the car with us is handy too, especially for multi storey car parks in cities! It was interesting when we borrowed the Bailey Alliance 59-2, great having a smaller motorhome, and for a short while not too much bother making up the bed.

Not sure why you asked that. I only have one toilet cassette.
Must have emptied cassette into house loo....
It was during lockdown, so I had to empty down my toilet at home as there were no campsites open! Normally you should empty at a designated chemical disposal point.

Hi Mazzy, You don't need to do that. That's a Dan job!
Normal washing up liquid works well , and olive oil on the seals keeps them soft .
@@nicklong9547 not sure about washing up liquid, it has salt in it.
I not going to recommend anything else that I haven't used. Wouldn't want anyone accusing me of breaking their toilet! As long as you are using the correct fluid for the toilet, you should be OK until you can can get it cleaned.

@@mazzyxxxx Hi Mazzy Bob's not wrong, the proper stuff is probably best but I've been washing mine out with washing up liquid (and water ofcourse )for 25+ years with no problems, just make sure you rinse it well and wipe the seal with olive oil afterwards.

Hi Bob, good job and some great info( didn't know the spout came off). I use olive oil to lubricate seals. Is the sensor replaceable,mine indicates partially full even when empty. Alan
I would guess that you can get replacement parts from Thetford, but I have never changed the float part. Are you sure its not just wrapped up with toilet paper? That's what usually causes it. They do a 'fresh up' kit which replaces the cassette with a new one.
Great cassette video but what is the piece on the top of the cassette between the round bit that comes out and the handle .it’s a small oval opening with a cover that comes off . Always wondered why it’s there .
Maybe you mean the level indicator?
@@BobEarnshawMoHo level indicator mmm not sure I can see my level indicator when I remove the round circle bit. If the cassette was sitting on the ground looking down on it. There is the round circle that twists off ..to the right of that is a small plastic cover that can be removed , it’s about 4 inches in length and about 2 inches wide.rounded on each end .When you remove this little plastic cover you are looking into about a 1 inch hole with plastic pieces inside that seems to go to the bottom of the tank. I could send a photo maybe .

The cleaning fluid is ready to use, undiluted,. If you mean the normal Thetford Toilet Blue, no, I'm leaving it empty.
Bob, the flap in the mechanism part of my Thetford “Jobbie-wheeker” is missing!
It surely can’t of flushed out of the cassette?

The flap that closes the cassette is missing. There is a moon shaped bit in the bottom of the tank.
I’m about to clean it before opening up the mechanism circle.

If it is not repairable, I’m hoping that Thetford will do a replacement mechanism part.
You can take the top round part off the cassette to have a look if it's repairable. Thetford do a toilet refresh kit, which is basically a new cassette.

How do you fix water fLush
Sorry, I'm not sure what you're asking. If you mean how to I clean the flush tank, I do not have a flush tank, it flushes from the fresh water tank. But if I did, I would perhaps use PuriSol Tank Cleaner.

Did you use WD40 to lubricate the seals?
No, never use WD40 on the toilet, use Thetford Silicon Sealant spray.
You could have taken the cassette for a walk with Poppy to help agitate the contents. 😊

We had been using it all summer, so it wasn't exactly brand new or clean.
