DIM released this 12’ `and 10 7” singles (separately and in a box) in 1978 - exploiting their access to Elton’s back catalogue. You may recall by 1978 had left DJM (1976). At the time 12” singles were coming to prominence. Nothing new musically only the art work on each record. Most of Elton’s 12’ singles were released in 1980s.. sadly with no significant remix or extension - just jumping on the trend.

I'm sure I either have or had Funeral 12 "inch. And I owned all the 12 " inch singles which had mixes. My favourites were Passengers, Who Wears These Shoes, and Wrap Her Up.

I would love to find Who wears these shoes. Wrap her up is good value - plenty of extra music from the album version.

Thanks John, an interesting video. I don't own any Elton 12" singles so I can't offer any assistance. As to the reason why Dick James Music released the disc, I could be cynical and say purely for financial gain because Elton had left and started Rocket Records by then, but I won't !

That's a very likely explanation. Thank you!

I bought this 12"single when it came out. I could be wrong but I think Funeral for a Friend/Love Lies Bleeding had a small revival at the time. The 12''single format obviously suited those tracks well.

Yes, a bit like Bat out of hell, which I also have as a 12-inch.

Wow ! what a bargain single John , it goes to show it's certainly worth popping into the charity shops from time to time . Those 12 inch singles are great value and most importantly great songs .

Awesome find, I've never seen that before, a great 21-22 minutes of music.

Absolutely. I must research all of Elton's 12-inch single versions. I wonder if anyone has done a playlist of them.

I've got that. Can't remember where I got it. It's a DJM release, just rooted it out. I think Elton had come to the end of his time with DJM at that point, so I wonder if it was something they threw out to remind him of their ownership of those songs, at that time. That's a guess though, don't know!

I expect that financial reasons were behind it.

1978 was my first year with Elton. A Single Man my first album, but I don't recall this 12-inch being around. Maybe just before I bought the album.
