Great video. How come you didn't dominate the RGS app with the Earthway S25-Spray Pro hanging up on the wall? My neighbors would be trembling, watching from the windows with that monster out in the yard!
Bought a bigger lawn last year and have been following Alan since, I am going to give it a try since he makes lawns look so nice. Enjoy all the videos and his enthusiasm. I want to DOMINATE my neighbors :) Wish me Luck !!
Love the Rachio. I also got a 10 pack of small rain gauges used for sprinkler systems on Amazon. It really helps to lock down the amount of water you’re throwing down. All my zones are setup for a half inch each time it runs.
Got my Prodiamine ordered last week, and it should be here any day. Its gonna have to sit in my KC garage for a few weeks, but thats just going to give me time to show the weeds exactly what they're in for! Thanks for all the tips man!
Been following you for the last year when we built on to an acre of land last year. Right now, I have 18,000sf of St. Augustine and weed dominance in Texas! So this is going to be a yearly budget buster for me! It's looking like I will continue to have to wait forever to get off your waiting list for help...
Caught the math issues...kinda looked sideways at the screen, but knew what you. Psyched to try out the humic products this season. Unfortunately I still have several weeks to wait up here in Maine. Thanks for coming back for yet another week!
Hey Allen, thanks for another great video. I put down the Prodiamine 65 WDG Friday because I knew we were getting @ .5" of rain over Friday night and Saturday and we did!... Sweet! Followed up with some Ringer, and even threw down some Humic DG to get some carbon buildup in the yard. BTW, the forsythias are blooming here in Cary NC.
LCN I just picked up a Solo 421s chest spreader. No more pushing 20 pounds of Milo over the thick lushes grass. I just a nice walk over the entire yard. I love my Rachio as well.
Comment take two: Ordered Prodiamine from your link and found DoMyOwn has a sale on pre-emergent! It's far too early for me up north but I'm happy to have this on standby next to my bags of Milorganite that have been seasoning in my garage over the winter : )
I purchased the water soluble version, and live in cool season area (ohio). We've had a crazy winter and weather kept shifting from freezing/snow to hot/sunny many times, even though soil was at 50°. Every time I went to apply we either had rain or snow coming, and when I finally applied we had a huge huge rain after and I'm afraid it washed everything away?! Now that spring is actually here, weeds are still everywhere. I see crabgrass, centipede grass (trying to take over my sidewalks), clover, wild violet, and tons of dandelion - no thanks to our neighbors and many around our town who let it take over their lawns. Should've got the granuals probably.. but I have about 35k SF of lawn to cover, that can get very $$$, I was hoping to hit only the major problem areas instead of every inch.
Hey Allyn, how about a throwback video in the now-vintage How to Grow Grass Seeds - The Basics style from 2010 for us long time viewers?!? I would love to see the Holy Roller intro and sparkly brown shirt in action just 1 more time
Allyn, I'm new here and preparing to Dominate the neighbors. I'm in Maryland and planning out my spring. Back in the fall I killed off our Bermuda lawn which had turned out to be a nightmare here in Maryland. It was the bright idea of the previous owner of our home. It was not attractive and was invading my neighbors lawns on both side of me. We killed it and I had the whole yard slit seeded. It was looking promising before winter hit and it went dormant. I'm now being invaded by various weeds and an abundance of what appear to be spring onions/chives? What is your opinion on Turflon Ester to knock out the weeds that are getting a foothold before a final spring over seeding? When would you think it would be best to over seed one last time. I'm wading through your videos and I want to thank you for all the great information!
Hey Allyn, I know your early spring program back in Indiana started off with throwing down some sand. I wondering if this is still doable if I'm also planning on throwing Prodiamine down early this spring too.
Hey allyn, I have an issue on a section of lawn that is shared with my neighbors hardscape. I now have iron weed that has migrated from his scape to my grass. What can I do to stop it in its tracks? I know it’s not common in lawns, and a hardy weed (hence the name), last summer I would just pull them as they would pop up, but it’s an uphill battle. Thanks, keep the good stuff coming!
Can you put this after you have new seeds sprouting? My perennial ryegrass has sprouted and noticed weeds coming up from the old Yard when do you think I can apply this?
Saturday used water soluble pradiamine late at night and forgot to water-in the product. Sunday the sun came out for about 4 hours the afternoon with a high of 66 degrees. Finally Monday morning I realized I needed to water! Should I re-spray and water in my product?
I was planning on trying to kill off some tall fescue clumps this spring, and then use some topsoil and seed in the bare spots. I was just wondering if you had an opinion on how early I could spray and kill the clumps? I live just south of Columbus, OH. I got the lawn looking really good last season and noticed the clumps spreading at the same time that some grub worm damage was revealing itself. Some of the fescue clumps got eaten by grubs and I was able to pull them out by hand. But the rest I want to kill this spring. Thanks for the great video, as usual! I can't wait to see what's in store for your lawn this season!
I was going to put down Friday but was afraid of the rain we were to get..lots. Now we are 40-70% until next week. Should the ground be dry? Thought bout putting out one day that the rain breaks if possible. Thoughts, suggestions are appreciated.. loving this program.
Just got done mowing edging and sprinkler repair. Question? If weeds are already showing is it to late to put this down. Northern California weather has been warm and trees are already blooming. I’m near almond country so when I see them blooming I get ready for lawn care
Hey Allan, love the vids. I’m from Australia and have Kentucky Blue Grass mixed with Tall Fecue. Is prodiamime a suitable pre emergent for that grass. Just bought a bottle of Spartan which is 480g/l prodiamine. Thanks I’m advance.
Getting ready to put down prodiamine (liquid) here shortly. I'm in far SE WI, just north of Chicago. Soil temps are approaching the 45 degree mark. However, we've hit a bit of a cold spell again so I think they'll be dropping, giving me a little more time. My concern is, once I put this down and have to water it in, it's a little early to fire up the irrigation system as temps can still fall below freezing. I usually wait until May to fire that puppy up. Should I be concerned about damage to heads, valves or the backflow preventer if temps hover around freezing overnight (maybe upper 20's) but we really don't get a hard freeze (temps in the low 20's or teens)?
I use Halts with a Scott's rotary spreader set at 2 1/2, according to the instructions on the bag. It is supposed to cover about 3,750 sq. Ft., which is exactly what it covered. It was not a big bag of Halts, about $17 at home depot, before my military discount.
great channel -- i have a ? why do they have max allotted chem rates per year for herbicides ? is it for the environments protection? damage to turf/soil ? or just a waste of product with no benefit. beyond? or all the above??/?//
the government sets those regulations and some states are more strict than others. Additionally, anything over the max rate, expecially with herbicides, can cause turf damage.
Good morning Lawn Care Nut! I am new to your info and recently bought the cool season guide. Also new in general to building a better lawn. I bought a new home and it is uses well water. About 150-200ft deep. Obviously the guide suggests use of prodiamine pre emergent and milorganite fert as heavy staples in the plan. Is this safe for use on properties with well water? Or am I doomed to crabgrass hell forever? Thanks for any information. Steve
after this hard winter we had my grass looks very yellow, i was using a "lawn care" company who never focused time into my lawn in particular. i am on my own now.. what do i need to do to ensure a good green healthy lawn this year. i live in the houston area.
I have my Prodiamine down, I also have granulated 2, 4-D Dicamba mixture for broadleaf weeds. My question is, can I pull up my thatch with a hand thatcher? Or will that disrupt the pre-emergent?
After watching this, i bought both the granular Howard Johnson 0.37% prodiamine, as well as the bottle of QualiPro WDG. Isn’t the WDG a better value? I went through a whole 50lb bag of the granular on one side of the house, yet barely used any of the WDG to finish the rest.
Appreciate the helpful video. This is my first year being proactive with my lawn. I sprayed my yard in October with Prodiamine and it has done great keeping weeds away through winter and coming into spring. I put down a second application mid February. My question is, how often throughout the year should I put down a herbicide?
Got the pre emergent down today. Do you suggest anything for the winter weeds that are all over my yard or will they die out over the next few weeks? South Carolina Centipede.
What do u use between your pavers ? They look great. I use non poly metric sand due to the tiny joints but it seems a bit to messy regardless of how much I sweep it. Also weeds still seem to pop up. Just curious how u keep yours looking so good
Mr. Nut. I have a question that maybe you could help with. I live in Georgia and have a Bermuda lawn. I like to take her really low at around .25-.5 inch. I noticed that at the end of last year and already this year I have been getting a lot of worm castings in the morning. I know they are good for the lawn but it's quite a pain in my eye when I have little clumps of mud over my tightness. Anyway do you have any recommendations for keeping these to a minimum?
Looking to go Au Naturale, not that kind, but have heard Corn Gluten Meal is a good natural pre emergent, thoughts? NC/SC border with tall fescue, 18 month old turf.
Lastly, you can buy a blue dye called Lazer at Menards or Amazon for about $6.00. Add a half ounce per gallon, and spray. It'll mark the grass and assure no missed part of the lawn. It disappears after a couple days...it's good assurance.
Ill watch it twice... Here is my question that I thought of. I have non lawn areas on my property.. Think gravel alley and gravel parking off the alley. I have a lot of weeds that grow there. My usual is just to hit it with roundup or salt water spring and fall. Is using a preemergent a rational choice for those areas?
Hey LCN and everyone else! Quick question when us up north throw this down are we also doing our first app of Milo with it? Or does it have fertilizer in it too? Thanks!
do you have any recommendations for treating nimblewill in the spring in an Indiana lawn? I don't believe i've seen nimblewill covered in any of your videos and i'm curious about recommendations
So I was at Lowe's today and wondered over to fert aisle (hate that..ha). They had some what looked to be old packaging of pre-em with 37% Prodiamine marked down..what's shelf life of this stuff?
I live in update New York and i want to overseed my lawn and take care of some bare spots. Can I apply milorganite immediately after seeding??? Thanks, LOVE YOUR VIDEOS👍
On spreader usage: The spreader broadcasts granules (of any kind) a certain number of feet to either side equally. If you use it up against the edges of the lawn aren't you casting half onto non-lawn areas? Also, if you use the wheel traces of the previous pass as a guide, shouldn't you be following them but a couple feet off to the side so as not to overlap and double up the dosage? As an example of what I'm asking, I just used my spreader to broadcast Blizzard Wizard ice melt on my 12' wide asphalt driveway. I made one pass right up the middle and I could see that it nicely distributed to the edges needing only one pass and minimizing intrusion on to the lawn area. Of course in my case it was solid granules on a solid surface (think marbles on a granite floor) but a lawn distribution would be more constricted. Like!
ChuckD59 Some spreaders have a setting to only broadcast on one side so you can properly spread around the edges and not worry about wasting product outside the lawn areas. I know at least Scott's and Earthway make spreaders with "edge guards."
Eye Heart Sushi that measuring cup comes from buying the quinclorac herbacide, quite useful indeed but you can only use for Volume, you cannot use it for liquid Volume
I understand that the sun breaks the granular product down fast, but would it be ok to do an app at night or around sundown and leave overnight to be rained in early morning? I don't have an easy way to irrigate right now and am hoping to use mother nature.
Allyn, I live in Canada where most chemicals are banned in lawn care. I was able to get my hands on some Prodiamine... but will it prevent dandelions from coming up if applied properly? It doesn’t mention dandelions on the label, and we have a huge dandelion and broadleaf weed issue.
Great video. How come you didn't dominate the RGS app with the Earthway S25-Spray Pro hanging up on the wall? My neighbors would be trembling, watching from the windows with that monster out in the yard!
because I am so out of shape I thought my heart would blow up, and I needed some beer too
I was just about to ask about the "Bigg Dogg" 😂😂
@@TheLawnCareNut Do you recommend this sprayer? I asked in other videos and you never answered.
@@jtjumpshot He appears to be consistent. If he sold it, he'd probably answer
@@bookooc5605 I gave up on asking. Maybe a "Yard Mastery" version is coming.

Omg. I missed these videos so much. We still have 3 feet of snow, so I’ll just live vicariously through you for the next 2 months. 😓
Pretty sure I’ve watch 90% of your videos in the past two days. Great Stuff. Thank you. LCN fo life.
Love the Rachio. I also got a 10 pack of small rain gauges used for sprinkler systems on Amazon. It really helps to lock down the amount of water you’re throwing down. All my zones are setup for a half inch each time it runs.

I have a question about reseeding in spring. What would you set your sprinkler system to ; to get your lawn growing again?
Does your spreader have an edge guard???
What’s your take on weed & feed to put down now, in northeast florida? Thanks
