I just ordered my Prodiamine for my pre-emergent this coming season. Well done Ben, that’s a big yard for a gallon sprayer. 💪👊
Thanks Chris! Good luck with your pre-emergent app!
Don't forget to use a Turf marker if this is your first time it will help you see your spray pattern. It will turn your mixture blue.
Came here for a reminder on dosage, got just that and a few other great tips. Thank you so much!! New sub!
New Subbie. Great video! I'm learning so much as a new 'Throw'er down'er' and 'sprayer & prayer' 😁. I am seeing the progress in my lawn. 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾
You could also use Turf marker dye this will help you see your spray patterns normally is blue
This is why lawn care sucks. My instructions for the prodiamine I purchased from YardMastery reads like my wive’s divorce papers. It wants you to mix something like 3.6 oz per gallon of water. So to save time I checked the internet to make sure others are doing the same
You will see mixing rates of between 1 -2 tsp per gallon which makes life easier AND a big cautionary note that stipulates that over applying at the recommended rates cause soil microbes to consume the product and render your prodiamine barrier useless.
So you are applying this application at about 5 times the stated application rate!!!
After looking at the cautionary concerns of prodiamine and all the bs about its application I feel like maybe the average person should not go down this road. It’s like your working with agent orange from the Vietnam era just to maybe suppress weeds IF you hit the magic windows of soil temperature and weed germination
Once this bottle of crap is done I’m through with chemicals like this that require moon suits and the tons of misinformation to apply. I truly believe you are better off with the post emergent controls from the big box stores because they are diluted to the point of not causing a cancer spot on your lung and they can be hose end sprayed.
It’s just not worth the effort dragging a back pack sprayer around hoping you didn’t apply too much product….whatever the hell that is
Don’t go down the prodiamine rabbit hole like I did
Putting down Prodiamine this weekend on my front yard. Great job Ben!
Thank you, sir! Good luck this fall with your back lawn renovation project and pre-emergent app!
@@yardmastery I'm a little late on the pre emergent but something is better than nothing. The renovation has gone extremely well.
All my useless local lawn “care” companies should watch this video and follow his channel. As suspected, technique and common sense is needed for everything you do. I would happily pay this guy to take care of my lawn.
3:20 Start with learning spray path, weighing/measuring product, mixing, PPE (7:05), Start spraying w/Perimeter then finish with a grid pattern
STL area here too. Good video!👍
Love it Ben.
Thanks, Brett!
Just received my Prodiamine 65WG from Yard Mastery. I bought the larger option but the imidacloprid I bought in the smaller size and it's great to have the option.
Awesome video. Keep em coming!!
Thanks, bro!
Nice looking yard :)
I've got my bottle from you guys as well. Putting it down tomorrow!
Nice! I hope you enjoyed the spray'n pray!
Nicely done, Ben!
Great video. What spray tip are you using? I have a FlowZone Typhoon and i cant walk fast enough before the tank empties. I know its putting out more than a gallon per 1000.
I just shake desired amount in a water bottle and pour into sprayer then fill remainder.
I do too but I still agitate well in the full sprayer.
Thanks, Ben! It's always great to see someone that knows how to speak to the camera. Good pacing and very efficient in the way you disseminated the information.
The cousin's lawn looks good. How do you like that Sprayer's Plus?
what about adding a surfactent when spraying prodiamine?
It doesnt kill anything, so no, no need to stick to the leaf
Very good video😊👍🏻 I sure hope I did it the right way (time will tell😳)
Would podiamine get rid of beggarweed in st agustine grass. Thank you in advance.
Good video but a few questions. 1) After spraying when can you safety walk on it. If you have to drag a hose to water it in will you poison yourself. 2) Do you use a post emergent in summer when some of the seeds still germinate. If so can you recommend one. 3) Can I use St. Augustine grass plugs in the spring to replant the bare spots after using Prodiamine in the fall.
How long after applying the prodaimine can you mow the yard? Want to wait a certain amount of days or does it matter?
Hey! How'd this guy get on this channel?!
Great video Ben. I live in So. Calif. I have issues with poa annua and crabgrass. I have marathon grass (considered tall fescue I believe) When should I spray the product. Temp now is 45 at night and around 70 to 75 degrees during the day. Summers will get hot around 90 100 July-Sept. Thanks in advance
You are approaching the window, we are shooting for soil temps of 55 degrees! Prodiamine will be your product of choice, both granular or liquid would be good.
Scott Pucel- Technical Advisor
How did you purchase? I can't seem to find any that will ship to CA.
i live in the midwest and it's almost the end of March and soil temp. is 41F. It's been raining a lot and not sure if i can spray or will it wash off because the soil is very moist. Thanks
Where did you buy your paint mixer? Is it long enough to get to the bottom of the sprayer?
How long does the 5 pound can last if it has been ina dark place at 72 degrees all the time
Yep...I have that battery powered sprayer... It is easy to use.
I have a 31 Gal Boom Spreader, the mower runs at about 5 mph. I have 75,000 sq ft of grass. How much prodiamine would I have to put in my Northstar boom spreader?
When can I purchase that YM hat? It hasn't been on the site for over two years.
so you did 2 passes with the application?
Why can't you use a hose end sprayer with this? I am curious...thank you.
You can, that's how I do it.
According to a lot of other reviews the application rate of hose end sprayer is not precise enough and this is a "serious" herbicide so I would follow the pro rules.
@@hectorrtirado8337 not advisable at all.
You da man! Thank you!
Hi everyone i did a soil test and it recommended that i use the stress relief fertilizer. I am new to this. Could i use the pre-emergent now i am in florida so my soil temp is 75 degrees.
Can I mix with speedzone/tenacity??
Is Prodiamine a good pre emergent for Ruschia Nana ("dwarf carpet to the stars")? This is a drought tolerant ground cover similar to ice plant. I roto tilled my yard to aerate it, and raked/sifted out dead grass. (I stopped watering my yard about a year ago since I planned to replace it with Nana as ground cover.)
I assume applying the pre-emergent in the fall you were looking to control poa
So if you are planning to use Prodiamine in early spring and fall, you should only use 1/2 the amount for each application?
5.2 g / 1,000 sq ft and you do it twice in spring
Question. Should the lawn be mowed before application?
It doesn't have to but you'll want to get the application watered in before your next mow after this application.
How well does Prodiamine kill mature Goosegrass?
Will this work for burweed?
Do you and The Lawn Care Nut have a business together? He uses the same app called Yard Mastery? I’m confused now. 😆
Can I use snapshot on my grass?
All i have is pump sprayers and good thing i saw your vid as well because i was thinking of trying out the ortho sprayer 🫡. will those big box store pump sprayers work just as well ?
Will spraying a brand new lawn in the making with nothing but soil before seeding cause any issues?
If you have weeds you can kill them with round up or a weed killer containing 2-4,D, that is your best bet to prep for a seeding.
Scott Pucel- Technical Advisor
Yeah... My hydroseeding guy said no preemeegents or any weed care for an entire year afterwards. So none before either.
I did a Prodiamine application early spring before outdor temps got above 55 degrees. Is that correct? And when should I do the next application? I have cool season grass here in Michigan.
It's better to do it too early than too late. Theres actually something called a split application strategy where you do half the amount well before 55 degrees and the other half about a month later at about 70 degrees. The idea is that this provides protection for a much bigger time window to shield yourself against the fickleness of mother nature
Ground temperature not outdoor temps.
@@aoe2geek My biggest problem now is just after the snows melted, I did a Prodiamine application when the ground temps were at 50 degrees. Perfect, but them a day or two later we got an inch of rain, then another heavy rain a couple days after that. I sprayed twoacres with a Chapin backpack sprayer, and am thinking it's terribly diluted. If I do anoother full strengh application, the ground temps are now above 55 degrees. Damn if you do, damn if you don't.
@@LemonySnicket-EUC Yes, ground temps measured with a meat thermometer
Not too sure if you went over it, but can you spray this product after seeding on top soil or before you seed?
You really shouldn't use pre emergent if you're planning on seeding. Otherwise plan to wait at least a month before seeding
May need to wait up to 4 months..
I used the YM app for my lawn measurements but I can’t get them as accurate as yours is there something I’m doing wrong?
Highly recommend just buying a big yard tape measurer at your local big box store
@@aoe2geek will do thank you.
Question on your north-south and east-west spray paths, did you figure full strengh or half strengh app/1,000 SF? It was not clear to me.
Ken Anderson
Do what you need to do to spray half across the entire lot N-S, then the remaining half again across the entire lot E-W. Whether you adjust your walking pace, spray tip, spray pressure, should be up to you and whatever you're comfortable with.
I applied mine in summer because I started to see crabgrass JUNE , 28 , 2021 IS THAT BAD?
I followed your instructions and watered it in, then I used drive on the existing crabgrass...
@@jonhawkins2374 Cant use a pre-emergent AFTER weeds show up, gotta use a post.
@@TuMadre1337 Thanks 😊 🙏
What if it's rain 24 hours later after putting this application is bad or good?
that's great, gets it watered in for you.
As long as it rains a half inch or so. You also don't want a down pour situation of several inches for example with runoff. Too much water all at once can be an issue.
Which tip have you used?
I was using the blue tip that came with this sprayer. It was not an aftermarket tip.
So I use 5 grams of prodiamine of a 2 gallon manual spray for spot treatment ? Can I mix it with .15 oz blindside in 2 gallon spot treatment ?
Must know square footage before anyone can answer your question.
This was 2 yrs ago. Been done already. I guess better late than never. Thanks anyways.
What happens if it rains more than an inch a few hours after sprayed?
More than likely it didn't have a negative effect but you never know really. Just trust the process and control your controllables. Sometimes the weather will make applications less effective but there is nothing you can do but continue to move forward with your program and hope for the best.
What kind of Honda is that in the background ?
Hey brother, l heard that if you apply prodiamine for pre emergent, you can't not seed you lawn after 4 months, is that true?.
I believe that's true, but the length of time may be different for each grass type and relative to Prodiamine application amount
Yep it does damage the grass some. Enough that weak seedlings won't make it
Yes, it’s prevent seeds from germinating, weeds or grass, doesn’t matter
If you do a North-South and East-West application you're double applying, yes?Isn't that too much product?
No, because you should have already measured the proper amount of product for the area you're spraying. Cross spraying just ensures that the proper amount gets evenly distributed.
You're basically spraying half of the product one direction, then the remaining half the other direction.
I had the same question, but this answer doesn't make sense to me
@@MrFosterForever if you have a 1000sf lot, you should mix 5.2g in 1 gallon of water. Spray half the gallon across the entire lot going N-S. Then spray the remaining half gallon across the entire lot going E-W. You will have effectively sprayed your entire measured product evenly across your lot.
@@nghiaxp3 That makes sense, my problem with it is that EVERY time I have sprayed my lawns with several different products (and their individual rates to gallons to area) I haven't had enough to cover that area with ONE pass in ONE direction so unless I start running while spraying I doubt I'll get two directions whether I split the amounts in half or not.
What's the max in grams you can put per year? Per 1k sq ft?
.83oz
23.53 grams
I found my scale was not even close to being accurate so I messed by volume.
Doesn’t look easy for me. The tank gets clogged after 1000 sq feet, and now I cannot use the rest and cannot use this tank any longer. Tank is Scott’s
