Dear GOD why do these nuts believe they need to dump so much run off crap on their Lawns that creates Algae bloom, unsafe drinking conditions etc. Help me understand GOD ? Why wouldn't they understand to first grow the right grasses that naturally crowds weeds out ? Kentucky Blue in the most northern regions, Zoysia grass in the southern regions, both crowd out both repair themselves both require very low amounts of fertilizer the first year or 2 to establish all facts Kiddies 😉
Fact I lived in a trailer park, young married twins just starting out in life. The yard was solid weeds like concrete. I bought 10/10/10 estate brand fertilizer 4 15lbs bag's 2 50 lbs bag's of some cheap Kentucky Blue grass it had 10% weed seed in it. Fertilizer it's self kills weeds they like the opposite. The second year I used only 2 15lbs bag's of fertilizer. The next 10 year's zero I had no weeds completely crowded out choked right off.
I kept that Kentucky Blue grass at 4 inches and knocked a 1/2 off at 4 & 1/2 inches tall. Watered 3 time's a week mowed twice a week. Never aerated never a lawn disease. Left, right and behind me the lot's all had weeds like concrete, dandelion being the worst. My lawn was so thick dense and lush I never got another in 10 year's. When I sold my trailer the yard guys ended up mowing it on a riding mower they asked my friend what did he do to that lawn it almost stalls out our 18hp Kohler 38 inch deck every time they mowed. My friend told them I don't know he just knows how to grow a great lawn.

I started using this setup with the field king sprayer. Absolutely love it. Yard is 8000 sq ft total and works perfect. So much easier than back pack sprayer. Thanks for taking the time to put it together.
This is a great guide Allyn! One thing that you may want to add to one of your sprayer videos, is some quick sprayer maintenance. I found out after a season's worth of use, that the wand will get clogged up (even after rinsing properly) and it affects your output and the consistency of the spray pattern. There is a little filter (like a sprinkler head filter) in a lot of these sprayer wands that needs to be rinsed out... did wonders for my next app after it was cleared. I suppose you could also go "John Perry" and just take the filter out for maximum overdrive, but I haven't tested those waters... :)
The prodiamine label also recommends using a detergent to clean the sprayer after spraying prodiamine. Silver Cymbal has a video whereas he recommends a $10 container of sprayer detergent that can be bought on Amazon.
Thank you for your continued content! I’m in Utah and can’t wait for our lawn season to kick off! Your videos always inspire me to teach others about what I have learned from you!
Sorry I just saw this. John Perry recommended me to use Isoxaben that you use in a sprayer. It works for a lot of the common weeds here in Utah! However I have not had much need for a pre-emergent for my lawn, I don't care for the extra chemical and I don't mind spending 5 mins in the morning before work pulling weeds by hand. Plus my lawn is shaded by 2 huge sycamore trees so weeds tend to struggle.
I'm hyped about this year! Got the pre emergent down 1st week of january, i plan for my 2nd split app to be mid to late febuary. Then push the lawn with the 18-0-1 greenepunch!! Thrower down! Hope for the best.
Great video. You make it easy to understand and follow. By the way, I just ordered some prodiamine WDG, and I look forward to trying it out next year. Thank you for offering the smaller bottles for us.
Great refresher video AL! Gonna be a while yet before I apply some Prodiamine, got a little heavy handed with the tenacity last night here in Chicago 🤣
The warm NC weather brought out all kinds of crap in my lawn before I laid pre-emergent. The cold snow killed it all last week. I guess I got a second chance on the app. Thanks LCN. This year is gonna be great!
Joel - we're about to be in the mid-60s, low 40s next week a little north of you here in Hampton Roads. I think the soil temps will average out to about 55F. This is my first time using pre-emergent. We had an absolutely awful weed year last year in our new house (moved here after 20 years in Chesapeake). So, in the fall, we aerated, put down a boatload of compost, and managed to get some decent grass growing. We have no significant weeds yet and I don't want to lose all the hard work we did last year. So, what do you think? Is this the time to hit it with pre-emergent or should we wait to see what March brings? I know we're likely to have another week or two of near freezing overnight, but does it matter that much? These LCN videos are terrific. What a great resource.
In case anyone sees this comment, DO NOT buy the nozzle mentioned in this video from Amazon- They are charging 5x more than the link provided! Thank you sir for the link!

I dropped my pro last year after he did my winterizer in a hard frost and left wheel marks all over. back to doing everything myself again this year. I’ve found the hand pump I have is very inconsistent so def getting a battery sprayer this year.
Huge Poa Annua problem in my lawn. My plan for fall '24 is: Level, aerate, over seed and Tenacity in late August/early Sept. and then Prodiamine as pre-emergent for the Poa, late Sept/early Oct. Thoughts on this? I did a preemergent of Prodiamine this Spring for Crabgrass, but I would still be under the annual limit. My concerns are with the newly growing grass which will be 5 ish weeks established at this point, and with the combination of Tenacity followed by Prodiamine. Thanks!
Do you like the field king battery powered sprayer? It looks the same as the Smith or Scotts battery powered sprayers,,, Love your content for our St. Augustine lawns!!!
I’ve been waiting to get the field king once the battery issue was worked out. When you contacted them was there any resolution. I want to hear from you before I make the hundred dollar investment. That is a lot for me vs the $10 pump sprayer but I would do it if there has been a response from field king. Thanks for following up.
Can you mix products like Speed zone with this to get the weeds that might be growing already? And is prodiamine good for nutsedge as well as crabgrass? Thanks Loved the videos
Going to do my winter app this when the temperature comes up some. In English 5.2 grams equal 1.04 teaspoons. I don't think many of us have scales that measure that little.
It's important to buy a scale - they are cheap and you can use it for other chems. It's nearly impossible to measure the .04 of a teaspoon so you'll be off in your active.
There are scales that will measure in 0.01g increments, due to the nature of this you will often want to get one with calibration weights to make sure it is accurate.
Allen I have an irregular shaped yard and I’ve measured it and come up with roughly 9000 sq.ft. but my question is because it’s irregularity and the shape of the beds could a person just measure length times width at its middle or widest point and calculate from that? I live at the end of a circle drive in my sub division so you can imagine the angles that I deal with in measuring?! Thanks again for everything you do, you have truly inspired me to take back my little piece of the world!

I found after my winter application my Prodiamine clumped up and failed to dissolve. Think I’ll need to pre mix it in warm water or use a drill agitator bit next time.
Yes you for sure can do that. I prefer the split app spring (2 half apps in spring) strategy but the single app at the higher rate is perfectly acceptable.
Excellent! I have the same sprayer & WDG ... also, for those who are watching on 70 inch big screen, check out the mixed kicks! One Nike and one New Balance - hahah - that's funny!
Allyn, your videos are amazing. I live in So Calif. It's early Feb. Temp has been cooler, about 40/45 at night, 70+ during the day. Summer will get 90+. I have an issue with Poa annua and crabgrass during the cooler weather. I bought your Prodiamine about a week ago. My question is when should I apply to control the poa annua and crabgrass ? Thanks in advance
Prodiamine is designed to prevent those weeds from germinating. They are pretty hard to kill after the fact. Plan on treating your yard in the fall to prevent it from coming in the winter and then apply again in early spring after that. It may not help you this year but it will set you up for success next year. P.S. I’m in central California so I understand your dilemma.
Why is it okay to walk on the lawn that was just sprayed? Doesn’t that activity disrupt the liquid distribution? And track the liquid where you don’t want it (e.g., driveway, house)?
Very Very little disturbance happens and very little is tracked off on the driveway/sidewalk, not enough to cause any issue and I don't wear by spray shoes in the house, ever.
Looks like the Field King Sprayer is currently unavailable with no indication if it's coming back. What are your thoughts on the Scotts 190567 Lithium-Ion Battery Powered Pump Zero Technology Sprayer, 2-Gallon? I can't tell if it will take the TeeJet White Flood Tip.
The way I aim it keeps you from getting the bottom of your pantlegs sprayed. It's difficult to visualize but once you start messing with it you'll see what I mean.
I love your videos and your products. I put Prodiamine down this fall but my lawn was riddled with weeds and poa annua this spring. I treated at half the yearly rate as I was going to do it both in the fall and the spring. One of 2 things must have gone wrong; either my measurements were off , which I don't think is the case or my application was poor (also scalped my lawn in the fall which was probably a mistake so I won't do that again). My real question is do you do one full app a year or do you split yours up between fall and spring as well?
I split them in 2. Prodiamine for the spring and high yield weed and grass stopper with dimension for fall. My neighbor does no lawn care and his yard is full of weeds but they don’t cross over to my lawn. I have a St Augustine lawn in Texas.
2 questions: 1) I have 1/2 gallon jug of Dow Dithiopyr (2-,4-,6-,3.5- ) at 24% of jug content. I want to use this up before buying Podiamine. So, meantime do you think this is an adequate alternative for Podiamine for pre-emergent control on st augustine grass? 2) Do you know offhand if humic12 or any other of N EXT bio-stims work well together with Dow Dithiophy in the mix together? Thanks for letting me know...
Dithiopyr is just fine for St Aug preemergent. Really depends on if you have a specific weed you have trouble with. I get lots of lespedeza and the prodiamine label doesn’t list that as a weed it controls. I’ll be using dithiopyr on my St Aug since it DOES list lespedeza. You can mix any of the biostims together with it just fine. If you’re concerned, get a small jar of your dithiopyr mix and add a bit of the other product. As long as it doesn’t precipitate out chunks or set up you’re good to go.
@@Ryush806 thanks Ryan. Ok, will use the product. Does not list dollarweed, which I have in my st aug grass, do you know if dithiopyr is effective even though not lists dollarweed, and if so how effective against this weed vs podiamine?
@@JuanLulli premergents generally aren’t effective against dollarweed because it’s perennial. It doesn’t sprout from seed so there’s nothing for the preemergent to kill. It usually thrives in damp areas so maybe reduce watering or fix drainage issues. Otherwise you just have to kill it with post emergents or pull it.
@@Ryush806 thanks for the clarity on dollarweeds…never knew that even though i’ve attempted researching this topic. Ok Ryan, I’ve got a final topic question: I’ve got Dithiopyr and a Scott’s Atrazine granular product. I heard atrazine is as effective as pre- and post-emergent. And I’ve got dollarweeds. So do you think then that my first weed app of the year and my go-to weed chem should be the atrazine?
Been using this product and is the first time I was able to have control over weeds. I am wondering, though, if it is safe for deer to eat acorns that have been sprayed with P?
I appreciate the video. I was wondering, can you mix a liquid pre emergent such as diothopyr with another pre emergent such as pendimethalin, ixoben or post emergent?
Allyn; Love your videos. I live in southern Calif and have Marathon lawn (I guess considered tall fescue) I have lots of poa annua. I ordered your prodiamine but have yet to spray. Temp is rising to 85+ now and will soon get 90+ degrees. I've heard that poa annua is a cool weather weed ? and will die when the heat arrives ?? Should I spray prodiamine now or wait until next year ? Also, I have a couple of dogs. When I do spray, and water in, how long before I can let the dogs roam. Thanks in advance
Hey Allyn, I just put down my pre-emergent up here in New York, soil temperature was about 49 degrees. It is raining some today and more rain tomorrow. Is that too much rain for the pre-emergent?
Thank you Allyn!! I am a lawn nut now, because of you!! Quick question: St Aug in South Florida. Would you apply Post Emergent, like celsius and sedgehemmer, together with the pre-emergent?
Good morning Allen. What is your soil temp? Here in Jacksonville (Fl.) they are saying it's around 25*. Shouldn't I wait till the ground temp is 55*? Your videos are a great help to my. We just moved here from Northern New York and lawn care here is a world apart from there.
Do I really need another sprayer such as the 2 gallon Field King sprayer if I already have a Flow Zone backpack sprayer and then rinse it out really well when I am done? Just asking. Thanks Allyn for another great video.
So I had a slow moment I bought everything the Lawn Care Nut said buy, I got the fan tip and I had the fan tip installed downwards where the opening faced the ground and i wondered why the spray came extremely close to me. It has been determined I should’ve installed it where the opening faces the sky. If u look at the t jet tip the slot is facing upwards on his sprayer when u look at it. Don’t make the mistake I made.
I have scotts providta kbg. Its thin with a lot of bald spots. I'm riding the nitrogen train of terror (fall nitrogen blitz). Will prodiamine prevent kbg from spreading? Ty
Will it kill my lawn if I had already fertilized it. I purchased everything to apply it but, before I do I want to make sure that it is safe for me to add even though it has just been fertilized.
Allyn, you used to recommend the BLUE tee jet tip, why the change? Is it because the white one gives you 4min of spray time while the blue one puts it down faster? Please let us know.

Is there an advantage of spraying with the tee jet nozzle facing upwards rather than downwards?
The way I aim it keeps you from getting the bottom of your pantlegs sprayed. It's difficult to visualize but once you start messing with it you'll see what I mean.
@@TheLawnCareNut I sprayed my legs until Jeremy of The Greener Lawn set me straight 😆
Should this tip also be used with the 4 gal backpack sprayer?
Hi Al, any reason why you prefer the white flood jet tip over the blue? Thanks. Just purchased the white.. can never have enough tips in the arsenal.😃
If using a 2 gal pump sprayer, similar to the Field King, would you use the same Tee-Jet tip ?
yes I would, as long as it has a minimum of 30 PSI
Thanks for letting me know...
just read Dow Dithiopyr label: does not include dollarweed in covered weeds, my bad, now what do I do...
Are there Pre-emergents or even post emergents that target Warm season grasses in coll season lawns or Visa Versa?
1:10 what's with the two different shoes?
Great video as always allyn. Thanks for visiting me from time to time on my channel. How do I get a sticker to you?
Been using this product and is the first time I was able to have control over weeds.
I am wondering, though, if it is safe for deer to eat acorns that have been sprayed with P?
Buen video👍🏼
I appreciate the video. I was wondering, can you mix a liquid pre emergent such as diothopyr with another pre emergent such as pendimethalin, ixoben or post emergent?
Would that specific TeeJet tip work on any 2 gallon pump sprayer? Or is it only compatible with the field king sprayer?
If you threw down some fresh ST Augustine Palmetto sod what’s the first application you’d make? RGS?
RGS and Greene Pop together is what I would use. If you only have the bio-stims, then yes for sure on the RGS. 3oz/1000 now and again in 10 days
How long after applying the prodaimine can you mow the yard? Want to wait a certain amount of days or does it matter?
if you are mulching your clippings then you can mow whenever you like. Personally, I prefer to water the product in first, then mow the next day.
Thank you Allyn!! I am a lawn nut now, because of you!!
Quick question: St Aug in South Florida. Would you apply Post Emergent, like celsius and sedgehemmer, together with the pre-emergent?
Can you apply t-zone with any of the bio stimulants
Where is the link to the white tip?
Good morning Allen. What is your soil temp? Here in Jacksonville (Fl.) they are saying it's around 25*. Shouldn't I wait till the ground temp is 55*? Your videos are a great help to my. We just moved here from Northern New York and lawn care here is a world apart from there.
I'm still in the 60s here.
So if I have 3 acres to spray with a 100 gallon tank sprayer. How much prodiame should I mix in the tank? If an acre is 44000 square feet.
Hello, what temperature do you recommend to apply the Prodiamine 65 WDG
Just bought some Herbicides Prodiamine 65 WDG off LCN. I have a Chapin sprayer. Will the tip you recommended with a Chapin strayer?
Appreciate the content but what's up with a New Balance on right foot and a Nike shoe on left? Love the info but simple observation.
I'm comparing to see which is better.
Do I really need another sprayer such as the 2 gallon Field King sprayer if I already have a Flow Zone backpack sprayer and then rinse it out really well when I am done? Just asking. Thanks Allyn for another great video.
You should continue to use what you have. All good there for sure.
@@TheLawnCareNut
Always so grateful for your input and expertise. Thank you!
Man i like ur shirts!!!!
I always say that lol
Thank you. I wear them for work and church, quite versatile. 😁
How do you feel about ryobi electric Spryer? Really love it for price and quality
Ryobi makes very good tools all around, can't go wrong.
What happens if you accidentally go heavy-handed on the application on St. Augustine grass, will it stunt it or kill it.
What scale are you using? The food scales I've found display grams but not tenth of grams (10 grams vs 10.4 grams).
I have scotts providta kbg. Its thin with a lot of bald spots. I'm riding the nitrogen train of terror (fall nitrogen blitz). Will prodiamine prevent kbg from spreading? Ty
Prodiamine coming up soon in my video! Get ahead of the game put down now or soon! Warm season folks 🤙🏽👊🏼
Will it kill my lawn if I had already fertilized it. I purchased everything to apply it but, before I do I want to make sure that it is safe for me to add even though it has just been fertilized.
I have been doing the granular pre emergent but I have a lot of existing weeds. When can I start killing weeds in SW Florida on my st augustine?
Allyn, you used to recommend the BLUE tee jet tip, why the change? Is it because the white one gives you 4min of spray time while the blue one puts it down faster? Please let us know.
I was basically going to ask the same question why did it go from blue to white
