LOL, unfortunately yes. I threw out a Lion's Mane bag because it got contanimated. The Lion's Mane got over its "illness" and actually produced a few flushes, after plucking it from my compost.

    • @christophermccurry8039

Yeah I find Lions mane and oysters tend to be able to overcome trich. The others.... usually the trich wins.
We had a major outbreak of it where over 40 bags had it. Had to deep clean the entire operation. Dilute bleach, let dry, dilute ammonia, 70% IPA.
Hopefully it stomped the trich spores but I guess we will see in the coming weeks. Innoculating a bunch of bags tomorrow, fingers crossed.

My first grow i made 6 jars, then six more after that until i had 16 jars with 14 more to follow. I wanted to increase my chances because of contamination. Now im overwhelmed with shoe box tubs and jars because i had 100 percent success with all the grow boxes. I did not expect to have such luck for my first time. The only issue i had was that six jars of lions mane got contamination but i think its from either switching brands of rice or a contamination in the syringe. Did agar using the oven method as well as culture slants and got about 30 out of 65 clean agar plates and about 15 out of 20 slants. Other than that its gone extremely well. Your videos, pgt, micophilia, micotropic and 90 second mycology are how i learned how to do this. It could not have happened with the success that ive had without all you guys. Its priceless information and i often recommend all you guys for anyone that wants to grow mushrooms no matter what species or style.

The best thing you can do with a molded slab thats about to fruit or already has is set it outside in a hole. Ive gotten completely safe fruits outdoors from slabs that developed trich after the first flush. Its like the mold stops in its place. I also sometimes just dump it and see what I can get from the bottom side of the slab once it funks on top.

I believe this is because their is a more complex system of symbiotic organisms to keep the contamination at bay. Instead of a system (the tub) that has only two organisms (your mycelium, and the contam), we have thousands of different mutualistic partners that will help ward off infection.

Recently found a trich grain in the bottom of a popcorn jar of Burma. First contam since I have started (about a year so far) other then a small but defeated patch of cobweb on some agar that some peroxide droplets killed. People say “let it fight it out” and honestly the mycelium was “winning” in this trich jar,but even I as an amateur know that it isn’t really winning anything. That mold or contamination in general will be coexisting inside of the mycelium getting stronger and stronger until you spawn it or it will eventually chow down on the mycelium as food. Then your tubs will be infested and you will get zero to little fruits because all of the energy is being exerted into fighting it off, plus you will get a lifetime of future contaminated tubs. Definitely not worth it to be nieeve and act like it’s nothing. Don’t put your precious mycelium through a lifetime of struggle. Put it out of its misery and maybe the mushroom gods will make their way back around to ya 😏😎🙌🏼✌🏼🍄❤️

10:1 also works for all the preppers out there. Ten parts water:1 part bleach will sanitize anything. Meaning that if you want to store a large amount of water long term then add a few drops of bleach. No algae or water based contaminants will survive in your water supply. You may have to treat for chemical contaminants like farm run-off and such. But the main Idea is that after you clean you then rinse everything in a 10:1 bleach solution and let it soak for 10 minutes before you use whatever paraphernalia you have just sanitized.

I got my first spores a couple months ago from you. And while I have had one successful grow, I have had close to 10 others that I've lost due to contam. Mostly bacterial, but more recently I ended up getting cobweb mold. Unfortunately I did not know that it was cobweb mold until I had already set the tub to fruiting conditions. So the closet that it was in is likely filled with spores. I typically do all of my work / inoculation in a closet that I have built out to be a lab. It is separated from the room that the contaminated bin was in by a hallway. As long as I still follow sterile techniques, and don't disturb the air too much, is it still worthwhile to try to do this at home? I will be doing everything that I can to sterilize the area, I just fear due to the cobweb mold spores getting out, my entire apartment may be screwed.

I like to let the grain sit for an extra day after a short boil, then soaking and draining.. I know. Gross. It gets sticky, and warm and ready for whatever was on it to grow.. yes. I Imagine that whatever has landed on it or was in it can readily germinate, and does.. Then I sterilize/pasteurize. Breaking the spore shell material with the growth process as well as pcing.
My question is, do you think I am affecting endospores as well as the common mold/ bacterial spores present in this process?

Hey Willy! I'm currently trying to follow one of your Straight to Base guides that have been re-uploaded, and in it you mention letting the Jar with the concoction inside sit in a pot of hot water that you change every 3 or 4 hours, I was just wondering if hot water from the tap would be hot enough, or should I boil water and use that? thanks

I love the video great ideas all the way around there's one thing that I was very concerned about see most people think that it's okay to clean black mold with bleach and which that's not okay because black mold uses bleach as in nutrition as soon as it comes in contact with bleach

I have been wondering about bleach and mold, a few searches still recommend vinegar over bleach at killing mold.Bleach is amazing at killing bacteria but how good is it actually at killing mold? H202 is also pretty good at knocking out bacteria and algae, I tested 35% h202(strongest I could find) and sprayed the cakes, it didnt slow the growth of the fruits, it looked like it increased the growth.

Theoretically speaking, why couldn't a contaminated jar simply be sterilized in an autoclave, and, then be innoculated again with original, sterilized contents? Thank you.

Trichoderma is pronounced like "trike-o-derma" not like tr-itch, or however you said it. So when it gets abbreviated to trich, it's pronounced like "trike".

I'd also like to comment on the safety of the mold spores. When your living your life and walking around earth, there's mold everywhere and you breath it everyday. Your immune system takes care of it but if you grab a handful of mold and puff it into the air and take a big breath of it, it will get you sick no matter how badass your immune system is.
