Not to mention that according to lore, he killed one of the behemoth demons before he got his power too. One of the skyscraper sized demons you see in Eternal. Now THAT is badass. Like fighting a much weaker icon of sin but you are about as strong as any other human man out there and only have your bare hands and maybe the super shotgun. I don't remember offhand what they said he killed it with but I am pretty sure I remember the lore thing saying he did it melee style possibly with a bladed weapon, don't think it was one of those sentinel blades or unmakyr type blades though. Probably was but not sure might have just been a sword he picked up off the ground.
It was only after that battle he wss weakened enough to be captured and locked away. But I'm 100% certain that contradicts the lore of him getting his power before being locked away in hell. I'm definitely gonna go and read up on it all and figure it out. Probably just a little plothole is all..

During the soul forge level near the end of Doom Eternal where it's revealed that consumed human souls are being turned into demons, Samuel Hayden tells the Slayer that the Makyrs made a deal with the Dark Lord. Said deal was described as "unholy" by Samuel and he seemed pretty personally outraged by it. He also remarks upon how "this could've avoided under different leadership". If Samuel is in-fact Samur Makyr, then that would give us his motivation for betraying the Khan Makyr, as he sees her as a heretic for making a pact with Hell and wishing to usurp her.
The souls get turned into raw Argent, while the husk that is left gets turned into demons.
I’m 100% sure that Sam Hayden is Samur Maykr. Hell, even the voice actor is the same for these characters. Jeez I already need sequel/DLC. I’m so hyped. Urdak level and atmosphere was something straight from Alien and Bladerunner. This game is nuts. I would give it 11/10. Need sequel ASAP.

Thank you for helping me understand the incredible lore to this fantastic game. I really try to find all the codex entries and understand the story but it's just so confusing to me one bit at a time, but I always loved the idea that mankind can't be stopped on a quest for what's truly righteous. No depths of hell, nor heights of magic. Doom slayer is the ultimate personification of man's unbreakable will. It speaks to the very deepest parts of my being.

It does, if you stop to think about it we as a species were prey, hunted and mauled until we started to fight back against nature. Now look at doom, isnt that the embodiment of that revolt against a mercileds preying nature represented by hell and its creatures?
This is my personal theory but i think that rage and revolt was what triggered our evolution to predators and is so deeply embeded in our genes that I belive that is the reason we still keep fighting each other in wars because to fully realise our insticts we must fight against an opressor

They never retconned it. It was never canon in the first place. Doom 2016 refers to the betrayer and the Slayer as very different people - usually the betrayer as the "wretch" (codex is from the perspective of the sentinels)

Delta Beta I believe we will see who the “wretch” is that modified his sentinel slayer armor into the praetor suit in the prequel dlc. Which from what I’ve been told is almost as long as the main game.
What also impressed me that I learned that the slayer fought hell’s greatest champion before getting an upgrade to his preator suit.

this is why i dont think he's DOOMGUY. he's the protector of the mortal realm. there's a reason why there's no legit flashback to him in the og DOOMs just fanservice-y allusions. the SLAYER exists outside of time and was there at the beginning (which is not 1991 unless he's also me lol)
it's easier and cooler to me to go with he was created by Father for this specific purpose (just like the DARK LORD, his counterpart). at some point he was thrown in time/space to when he became a Sentinel. if he was a real person they would have known who he was when he came back to earth, bc they would have searched the military databases obviously and been like "oh that's JOHN SMITH"
As someone who was too young to play the classics, but played Doom 3 on xbox, I fell in love with Doom 2016 and Eternal. Never knew there was so much lore when I played 2016. It actually seems like there was more care put into this story than the new Star Wars movies
You can actually play the originals in doom eternal! If you go to doomslayers room you can find a computer that looks like its straight out of the 90s and u can play the original doom games on that

Coffee Elk but the only reason she did that was because the Seraphim stole “The Father” which stopped them from essential immortality... so perhaps....this was all his machinations?
Most likely. He could’ve taken the essence of the father in an attempt to end KM’s life for an unknown reason, but then with the introduction of Doomguy into the dimension and the introduction of the demons and argent, he would proceed to give him strength from the divinity machine in a sort of “oh shit” move once realizing KM had a plan for immortality. Nonetheless my head hurts now.
@@VideoGameSophistry i think samuel hayden alias seraphim always wanted to get rid of KM. at some point he says '' all this could have been avoided under better leadership'' he really stresses on that leadership. and VEGA is the father.
@@VideoGameSophistry if this was the case I still don’t see it as an intentional evil. The Maykr’s were cruel and manipulative and their moment of hubris with this warrior race willing to make themselves slaves to the will of the Maykrs for power was the perfect time to strike. That also feeds into Samuel being the Seraphim because on top of it’s name and voice sounding similar, they both share a consistent storyline of being influential and intelligent creatures using their knowledge for ultimate good by committing a lesser evil that creates bigger problems.
While playing the first game I always wondered how Samuel even retrieved the doom guys tomb and knew how to find it.
He always gave me the impression of a good guy doing evil for greater good, only to fail and cause major harm.

So Doomguy speaks English but the Argenta/Sentinels do not, yet they speak English in cut scenes... qq
We see everything through doomguys perspective so when sentinels talk he translates it in his head so we just see everyone speak English

Of course, a lot of folks agreed with me but some people were still insisting he was some kind of Alien or even “The Betrayer” right up until launch day. Ha, wrong!
Either way Id went with the lore the Slayer is a badass. Just that now he is badass in a sense that he is the equivalent of a cartoon badass from Saturday night adult swim animated show
On the other hand if they carried on with the Doom Slayer and The Betrayer being the same person it is still a badass way to go since this means that his penance and regret was heard like a prayer by heaven itself and he was given both a power and a curse as a result.

darthjc4 he beat the icon of sin in Doom 64 (the wall icon of sin) and it teleported him there. Doom 3 I’m guessing is either getting a hard reboot or we’re waiting to see how that outbreak played out and if DoomSlayer recruited the main character in 3

SamVision this is what I heard anyways but In doom 64 doomguy went into the portal of hell and closed it so that the demons won’t invade earth again he fought through hell and was randomly teleported to sentinel prime and found by the guards there that’s all I know.
I think at the end of doom 64 when he jump through portal to hell but instead tele to sentinel homeworld.

Soo basically Doom 1,2, and 64, is the dimension that the Doom Marine is from, but after 64 he was sent to another dimension where the events of the 3 previous games havent happened yet, he's then taken to the sentinels who train him and he becomes the Doom Slayer, he's then put into the sarcophagus in which Samuel Hayden finds him, and he now has to relive the events of his original dimension like killing the CyberDemon, and the Spider Mastermind. He then goes through hell on Earth, but this time kills the hell priests and the Kahn Makyr to stop hell from branching over into other dimensions and taking them over, and the cherry on top, killing the Icon of Sin...yet again. So there's no wonder why this man is constantly angry😂😂😂
According to the scrapped dialogues, Doomguy came from the 7th Earth. This is probably where Doom 1, 2, and 64 took place.

I played DOOM 1 when I was ....13? around then, anyhow. I'm 38 now. I cannot explain my gratitude at how you basically voice acted this story, and well at that. It is rare that one is able to capture childlike wonder, even for a moment. Thank you.

FrÜt Yes it is. It’s actually believed by many that it goes Doom, Doom 2, Doom 64 (since he stayed in hell in doom 64 he must of been transported by the demons) then doom 2016 and now doom eternal.
FrÜt Doomguy fought through Mars, Phobos, Deimos, Earth, and Hell, (DOOM 1,2,64), and if you played DOOM 64, it mentions how Doomguy was unexpectedly pulled from Hell not to long after closing the portal.

The Sarcophagus is in Doom 3 Its in the "hero's antechamber" a room dedicated to the hero who killed demons thousands of years ago. Doom 3 is on the same timeline.

Dr Samuel sounds alot like this guy and is repeating the same exact words spoken in Doom 2016. So i'm assuming doom 3 20-whenever will cover his connections with the doom slayer before he was Dr Samuel Hayden robot and the 'maykers'. They aren't angels - just aliens.

Hey I really need to say this. Seraphim's voice sounds vaguely similar to haydens. Also, when you go get hayden, the scientists say that his circuitry and shit is completely alien. Also also, when you walk into the room to stab the icon's heart, the door says, "welcome, seraphim." Idk if it's because haydens consciousness is in the slayers suit. To simplify, I think hayden is seraphim. He seems to know a weird amount about sentinel and mayker history as well.

I cant find any comments or anything that mentions this in lore videos yet but has anyone noticed the large alien which i assume is the body of the father that is in the pool of liquid at the end of the Ardak Level ?. Its just an empty room with a Life pickup but you can swim underwater and this huge alien which is the same species as the Maykr leader is just floating under the surface. I'm guessing if Vega is the consciousness of the father then he will return to his original body possibly in the DLC or the next game perhaps.

I get the feeling that John Wick the Doom Slayer are one in the same. John Wick takes on an entire army because someone stole his car and killed his dog. Whereas Doom Slayer takes on the hordes of Hell cuz they wrecked his home world and killed his pet rabbit Daisy.
Thanks for this amazing video that helped me to understand a little bit better the lore of this game. However I don't understand where this game is located on the timeline of the DOOM universe. Until DOOM 2016 I thought that was a direct sequel of DOOM 64, in which the DOOM slayer decided to stay in hell to avoid its forces to invade again Earth or other planets. But this game actually got me confused, because hell is back on Earth. Are we talking about a parallel universe with the same DOOM slayer?

However, that idiot had underestimated the abilities of Doomguy as a well-trained marine of the earth. Finally, therefore, the ugly face gladiator, marauder had killed by the Slayer despite he used that hound in the end. Hell monsters should have remembered that the Slayer's lonely battle, which is, he was a just lone wolf who hasn't teammates to cover. But hell monsters are army organization with super level boss monsters such as Doom hunter, Marauder, Gladiator, Cyber demon lord and the icon of sin. They had suggested that unfair battle but he had gotten the flawless victory.

Shiny's Support there are alternate realities. The maykrs used the divinity machine the same machine that gave doomguy his power to look into other realities.

@@stankymcspanky7906 The rabbit aka Daisy is Doomguy's pet. Daisy appeared in the previous games and Daisy is also the reason why the Marine continues to fight demons.
one thing they left out, im assuming saving for this free DLC they keep talking about, but i was really hoping that the vanilla game would explain how you came in possession of the fortress of doom and what / why that half destroyed mech thing is doing hanging in the lower part of your ship, why is it there or why did he preserve it there? i feel like one of the DLC missions will be a prologue of some sort showing how doom guy escaped hell and found the fortress.
the first level of the game just screamed to me that this wasnt the first level, like i was missing a whole chapter or two before that point, starting out in the fortress and all that
