    I believe you nailed it with your Ginault reviews! As the Ginault Ocean Rover appears to be the best homage timepiece around at this time. Although it will cost the better part of $1K USA to own, for many this is the closest they will get to a Rolex at least without taking out a loan to own one, besides for myself I just would NOT feel comfortable with $10K in my wrist at least if I ever wanted to wear it outside my home. The fit and finish of this offering appear to be top notch, wether produced in the US, China or Switzerland, all that really matters is the quality, everything else is just a name and the people that are looking towards the Ginault are not interested in name brands but quality at an affordable price. Thanks again and you have helped me make up my mind about purchasing a Ginault, for me I’m going with the date option without cyclops. 👍

    Still a good looking watch, if it were mine it would be a keeper. Back before wife, kids, mortgage etc. I had a GMT Master 16750 and that had scratches and scuffs after a year, so no big deal.....just proves you love your watches enough to wear them, and good for you for sharing the love with your friend.

    get Mothers mag and aluminum polish and polish the sides of the case. all the scratches can be removed on polished cases, but not on brushed cases. you can do the same with the watch band, but you have to rub in one direction only on the watch band, with the grain (brush) so to speak. the crystal can be polished too, that is how they got it smooth in the first place!

    • @SuperBullyone
      @SuperBullyone 6 лет назад

      on the crystal, I use ScratchX to polish out light scratches. The mothers Mag polish can be used on the back of the case too, keeps it beautiful. my watches stay about new looking. so does my 14-year-old truck! I never use the original band, I keep it new for when I sell the watch. The Ginault is my best most expensive watch so far. It does get micro scratches easily on the case sides for some reason. My Borealis, Bulova, and Hamilton watches do not seem to get scratches on the case easliy. The Steinhart gets pits or micro-dings in the stainless but not scratches. I polish it all out, like polishing brass in the military. - thanks for letting me share...

  • @ccw1961
    @ccw1961 6 лет назад +9

    Sell it, The Oris is the genuine article and so much better IMHO. I wear mine on the lovely bracelet. So comfortable. I have just sold my Rolex two liner 14060. I guess it is the real thing but I found it to be no more than average. I'm sure the Ginault was just as nice as a daily wearer. Why did I sell such an icon/ grail watch? I have curtailed the huge horological habit of twenty years and have been searching for ' Just one watch'.....for life. I have owned everything from a Seiko 007 to IWC to Rolex and G shock. Auto, quartz you name it. It must number in the hundreds. Truly a problem :). Frankly, I'm fed up with my own obsession and having sold most of my watches now I have made my choice for my one and the only daily wearer A new Explorer 1 (39 mm.) Its on its way to me and I guess it has been a journey of some 25 years and goodness knows how much wasted money, but huge interest as well. I will continue to skirt the interest in watches and will attempt going steady with one watch. Wish me luck. Love the Vlog and will continue to watch. This subject poses a great one watch debate. remember, this is a watch for the rest of your life. It has to be a beater and a dress watch, a daily wearer. The first thing you put on in the morning and the last thing you take off at night, the one true horological companion that will be good for you when your 20, 40, 60... NB: the Oris has to go too. This will be hard to part with.

    I just recently got the black bezel, no date, white markers version and I could not be happier with it. This watch is the crown of my very small collection and I basically wear it every single day. It’s the standard to which I compare all other watches that I find myself considering and the vast majority of those watches pale in comparison, in my opinion.
    Mine has run at +1 or +2 seconds per day and as far as I’m concerned, that’s the best anyone can really ask from a mechanical watch. All in all, I paid under $1,000 for mine brand new and while it obviously would have been nice to get it for less, I think that price is totally fair. Unfortunately, I got into watches pretty recently so by the time I found out about Ginault, their insane half-off promotion was over. However, as I said, I was still happy with the price I paid.
    I’ve actually found it quite difficult to find watch brands offering similar quality at the same price.

    I have had an identical Ocean Rover for at least a year. Mine is maybe three seconds a day fast. The stainless steel does scratch, but there doesn't seem to be any that do not. Priciest milsub homage on the market? Yes, but compared to a current Submariner it is a bargain.

    As usual very good review Jody!...., BUT why would anyone purchase a Ginault for $1,300 when there are so many offerings by other exceptional microbrands for around half or more of Ginault’s retail price (Helson, Borialis, Zelos and Axios just to name a few). Unless someone is looking for an exact copy (homage) to the Rolex Submariner (and don’t want to dish out $10K for one), I cannot see anyone spending that much money, heck anyone wanting a Ginault, just go to eBay there are numerous offerings and people can save at least 40% or more on a pre-owned timepiece, or check the watch forums for people looking to swap or part exchange.

My only complaint on the watch was the bracelet on my example was total garbage. 2 screws seized up when trying to remove them to size the watch to my wrist. I bought what seems to be an exact copy on eBay for $65 and it’s much better quality then the one supplied.

    A submariner homage to discontinued references. Not a single current refernce. I think this is an important distinction. I have a Subby 14060. i never wear it anymore, always the Ginault. Less risky in London and actually more comfortable. I think the watch is worth the full cost. It now has a Swiss movement.

    Now that the ORII comes with a Swiss movement and ceramic bezel, what would your view be? I’d love to see you review the new model even though I know that watch Karen’s will come for you so it would take some courage for sure. I pretty much look at Ginault as the equivalent of high quality classic Porsche Speedster/356 replicas. Not everyone can or will spend 6 figures plus for an original Speedster and for $40k you can get an outstanding Speedster by say Beck or if you love classic Mustangs you can grab a great new production car from Revology….or if you’re into 1911’s or AR’s there are tons of makers
    Making great 1911 and AR pattern guns in configurations that enthusiasts wanted but the manufacturer (Colt) never made. None of that is controversial in the slightest…..makes me wonder why some watch fans are so Karenish.

  • @marshallcollins8634
    @marshallcollins8634 4 года назад

    I love the look of the soles sub but hate Mercedes hands and the BS that Rolex does. I got a Steinhart OVM 39 and love it. You mentioned a $10,000 sub. I treat all my watches like a $10,000 hooker( I'm getting every pennies worth. They're all battered and bruised. I'm a watch user not a collector, if I don't use it I don't buy it. The Steinhart is the only Automatic watch I own as I am ( even in retirement) extremely anal about a watch being accurate. And the Steinhart is very accurate. I never take it off, maby that helps keep it accurate. I'll never buy another auto in fear of disappointment. But if it keeps this up I will give all my others away to friends. Thanks for the update, now I like my OVM 39 even more now.

    Great review again!
    The Ginault is nicely executed (for a direct homage) but it really shouldn't be more than $350 US, especially considering it's other micro brand Asian white-label competitors with better Japanese or even Swiss movements. Hell, if you do your research you can get both a Squale 1545s and a Steinhart Ocean 1for what Ginault is asking for one of these.

    • @JustOneMoreWatch
      @JustOneMoreWatch  6 лет назад +1

      Agree that their asking price is optimistic at best. I got my for the same price as a 1545 and wouldn't swap it for all the tea in China, in spite of the questionable movement in the Ginault. Cheers!

    Excellent review. I'm a little surprised by what's missing on a $1,300 watch. Especially curious about the aluminum bezel insert. My aluminium inserts always seem to get scratched. Given the other quality homage watches that are on the market, I don't know if this one is worth the price they charge.

    Interesting although I still don't know what to think about the Genault. It's so similar to my first Rolex a 5513, which I beat the living daylights out of till it broke. Weren't they supposed to be indestructable? So bought a swiss homage as a place holder. Then simply to wear those times I shouldn't have worn the 5513. That said still have both but now rarely wear either. All said and done each has held up about the same over time ( except th emovement failure in the Rolex ).

    It's a unique beauty, but when I heard the price, no way. Would have been wiser to go with a Seiko NH mvmt, and priced it at $500 bucks. Even at $800, could go to buying a better piece. Was thinking about the Oris Diver 65 before you mentioned it. I passed on the 65 (had cash in hand), when I discovered the odd ball lug width. Regards, JP

  • @Femiforfun
    @Femiforfun 5 лет назад +1

    People who keep talking about Steinhart, Tissel and Squale as if they are actually better made than a Ginault, or are willing to instead pay 8 times the price for a Rolex have obviously never actually owned a Ginault. If you do not fall into that category, then logically speaking, your sentiment is obviously clouding your judgement. Owning a hulk sub and a Ginault, I can tell you that the only major physical difference internally or externally is the movement. The other issues I have with the Ginault are not significantly 11 times worth less than my Rolex. I sometimes forget which watch I'm wearing until I look at my wrist. The Ginault is considered overpriced due to a lack of an established brand reputation or an original design, but no, the Steinhart is not better than the Ginault in terms of quality, not even close, neither is the Squale; Oris, maybe.
    HOWEVER, the same problem people have with Ginault is the same reason why they went the route they did. Fake it till you make it. Without a reputation, they would not be as popular as they currently are. They are letting the critics do the work that Rolex pays millions for (advertisement). My hulk sub still sees more wrist time and I am delusional enough to find value in owning it. But, I wear the Ginault as a way to try to have conversations with watch snobs I encounter, trying to add some logical thought and open-mindedness to the watch community. Please, stop with the nonsense if you have never actually handled one.

    What a great channel you have going. Archly entertaining and informative. You're quite a persuasive salesman, as well. I guess I have you to thank for becoming an Ocean-Rover owner, since yours was the first review I watched. Hadn't even heard of them before that.
    Has your opinion of Ginault's price point changed now that the ORII is offered with a genuine Sellita SW200-1? The on-the-wrist accuracy of my Ocean-Rover 2 with the SW200-1 is just phenomenal. The other improvements also up the ante.
    There isn't a hint of blue from the optometry grade AR coating and the cyclops produces that rare "black hole" effect. The redesigned bezel is surgical. And to me, the blue lume is nothing less than Smurfalicious.
    Thanks for the great reviews. And to those who want to trash talk Ginault's quality or value when they've never smelt, felt or stood next to one: You look like a palooka. Or like that old fox in Aesop's Fable.

    in my humble opinion, Rolex homage watches can’t justify a price more than $300, above which i expect some originality and brand recognition.

    The "criticism" of the watch are pretty consistent.
    1) Get ceramic (or at least option for) bezel.
    2) Get a ETA (or at least a Selitta) movement.
    If they went with the swiss movement, they may have had an easy excuse as to why it wasn't "made in the USA"
    This was one of the brands I was looking at after I left disappointed with the Rolexes I was looking at. But I ended up going with Steinhart.
