    I own a subby 14060, a Oris 65 and a Ginault ocean rover II. All brilliant. Which one do I wear the most? the Ginault. Better made, more comfortable more tactile more e accurate and lastly, best looking and incredible build for a very fair price. My Ginault looks and feels like the quality of my Subby because it is and so much more. The Ocean rover II is a fab watch ...period. IMHO. :)

    Great review! I own a 16610 and 16613 Rolex Submariner and wanted to check out the Ocean Rover and bought one from Ginault heavily discounted and was amazed with the watch. I've had much better luck with the movement as it ran about +2 seconds for the first year and has slipped a bit to +6, loved the bracelet so much I popped it on my 16610 for a few days and it fit perfectly. Oris doesn't hit all my buttons even though it's a remake of their own watch from the late 60's. I feel the Longines Legend Diver staying true to the original is made much better than the Oris and the cost is more but well worth it. Again, amazing review and I really enjoy the channel!

    For me the most important thing is value for money. Specs to price ratio. I personally think that should be the most weighted category.
    Brand means nothing to me. A prime example of a great value watch based on what I've said is the Starking AM0184. If you were to buy a 'big brand' watch with similar specs, it would cost substantially more.

      Hey mate! Wearing it now, as it happens. There was an issue with the ceramic bezels, all resolved now. Still a stunning watch for the money, now with SW200. But there is a taint surrounding the company. Google will help: "Ginault Deepdweller" so it is up to you how you go with that.

    I loved the battle even if none of those work for me. I'd love to have a great 5513 / 5517 homage, but not at that price point. And I find that particular dial of the Oris hideous - I would go with the gilt one 😍, but this is completely personal of course. I sold my Steinhart OVM MK2 because I couldn't warm up to that grey dial after all (a perfect blend of a grey dial and a 5513 / 5517 homage nonetheless). LOVED the intro music :D Cheers!

    Great video Jody! Love the Oris and would take it over the Ginault any day. I would argue that the Tudor Pelagos bracelet is at least on par, if not better than the one found on the Sub. Solid titanium and the adjustments can be made without taking the watch off.

    Oris are doing their own thing which I respect. Bit of a marmite dial but the world would be a boring place if we all liked the same things! I just don't care about Rolex Sub homages anymore, get out the teacher's red pen, "must try harder." Also, as you touched on, you might as well be wearing a fake. The Sub is too ubiquitous now to bear the 'homage' treatment.

  • @henrybenrycat1
    @henrybenrycat1 6 лет назад +5

    A week or two back, I sat in our living room with a prospective purchaser of our old house. He asked questions about the house but the only question in my mind was "is that Explorer 2 a fake?" And that's the trouble with Rolex. However the Ginault is what it says on the dial - no need for any sense of inferiority or questions about its authenticity. But then to the real problem, The Ginault is simply too commonplace in appearance whereas your Oris has colour, charm and originality that will catch the attention of almost anyone. And as I wear watches as blokes jewellery, well that would put it on my wrist most days too. Great vid Jody - watch choice isn't just about spec's.

  • @jacc88888
    @jacc88888 6 лет назад +5

    Enjoyable duel! Agree with most of the scores, especially as you have had first hand experience and I haven’t! However, I feel value should go to Ginault: for what it is the Oris is greatly overpriced - actually I would go as far as saying that like many Swiss timepieces it’s a bit of a rip of. The movement probably costs them £50 to buy and the dial, although attractive, is very basic as is the case finishing. Also not sure about the brand score - Oris have heritage but are hardly a household name when it comes to horology unlike Rolex, Omega, Seiko etc. They are obviously a rock solid brand but 90% of folks under the age of 50 have probably never heard of them! It certainly is a refreshingly different and attractive design though which the Ginault isn’t as much.

    Hello Jody , you need to do a review on the Scottish bag piper watch, I have seen a review on the black watch, so it would very interesting to see the comparison on the 2! Cheers.

  • @GypsieSeeker
    @GypsieSeeker 6 лет назад +3

    Also, I think the category should be “price” rather than “value.” You’re already giving points for the other qualities of the watch - then you should mark down for a high price, and mark up for a low price. This, in total, will reflect the “value.” But by having a value category you just reintroduce the earlier quality categories, and so give price even lesser importance. Same price = same score (in that category), and the lower value watch loses overall because it will lose in the other categories.

    Well, this was a difficult match, but you were certainly fair-minded. I think a bit tough on the Ginault, though. Giving the better built watch the same for value, and your quibble on the crystal I think a bit unfair. The bottom line is the Ginault was better watch for the money but a no name watch compared to the Oris. JOMW usually sides with the better value proposition and the Ginault seemed to take that category, imho.

    Great video!
    I think the Ginault is a bit to close to the Oris as an homage.
    I have no problems with homage watches as long as they over something outstanding in their price category - like a Invicta Pro Diver with its Seiko NH35A for less then 100,-$ or a Parnis GMT which is the cheapest real GMT automatic watch - but in the +500,-$ class you will always find watches with great specs and their own legit design.
    So watches like Steinhart or Ginault have a bit a bitter taste for me...

    Totally agree that movement should be double weighted (thanks for remembering my earlier complaint :)), but brand? Are these women’s handbags? Should we compare who has the better social media influencers? By weighing brand too much, you help them justify their markups. Plus branding already probably affects the other ratings on a subconscious level. If you do want another double-weighted category, maybe call it “Heritage” instead. Anyway thorough review, thanks!

      At the end of the day, it is indeed a factor to most buyers. Maybe it shouldn't weigh more than others (like build quality, movement, design) but if you give me virtually the same watch but one is an Oris and another is a Tag, I'll go Oris all the way. (I'm biased, I purchased a month ago an Oris Aquis).

Because they put so much thought and effort into making this homage to the Rolex Sub. The enamel dial is something you just don't see the micro's do. The bracelet is second only to the best well known Swiss brands. And it seems as if Ginault put a lot of time into the movement as well. What other micro spends the time to actually calibrate a movement over this amount of time? No, I don't own one.
    And personally the Ginault is only a homage. It says "Ginault" big and bold right on the dial, not Ginolex. And according to me the hands are way different to a Rolex Sub (although I guess Rolex made a version way back in the day that looked like this). Ever see one in person? I haven't.
    I'm boring myself now but I'll make one more comment about homage watches and then shut-up. Back in the 1990's Gevril made an homage to the Rolex Daytona. It's called the Tribeca. I mean they made it look exactly like a Daytona down to even having some parts that were interchangeable. Only 500 were made and they were reasonably priced at the time. They eventually got all bought up. When the Paul Newman started getting hot pre-owned Gevril Tribeca's started to heat up as well. Look at the prices for them now! And guess who's buying them? Some of the top watch collectors in the world! So what's my point? Why are we "little" watch guys so obsessed about homage watches when the ellite watch collectors could care less? I have a short list of names of people that have bought this model. You can find them. Not hard.

    Nice video but was kind of obvious where this was gonna end up. Not sure I'd go for either prob would go for Zodiac Sea Wolf. But enjoyable video, I quite like these comparison videos, although ultimately the watches look determines I think most people's choice

      A good idea. Next up is SKX vs Mini Turtle and Stowa vs Zelos, so always happy to tweak the scoring system. Cheers mate!

    The only thing I don’t like with the oris are the 100m WR and the pins in the bracelet.
    Yes, got it, it has its original style and everything but my sarb035 has 100m without big height and screw in crown, why not at least make it 200m and with that to a “real” diver.
    And in terms of cost, it isn’t that expensive using screws in a bracelet so why pin it together like a Seiko skx, the oris doesn’t sell cheap.
    But still, it has its own design and that is a big plus, I like the river style bracelet and the dial is gorgeous, the ginault is interesting but an expensive Rolex clone so not my cup of tea. Very nice battle, I enjoyed it a lot 👍🏻🙏🏻

    Basically same movements and if you ignore the brand names, the Ginault is the superior watch. Albeit a Rolex greatest hits. After the last video I wondered if there was a Ginault trap. But I find watches around the same price don't exude the same quality. If the Ginault had been around when I started buying Sub like watches, I could have saved myself a fortune in fakes, Steinharts, Armidas, Tissells and Lord knows what else. And let's be honest, all divers are measured by how subby they are without out being too subby to be labelled a subby copy.

    Without a doubt it would be the Oris for me though in truth, I don't really desire either. Never cared for the Sub tried one (out of curiosity) once, although you could feel it's quality still did not like the style. Dead happy with the Aquis as it's way nicer than both.
    Great bout though but the Ginnaut threw the towel in early!

    Or is has more flair whereas the Ginault is a well built homage.
