Have you tried this upgrade yet? If so, how is it working for you?
Just finished, and it is running flawlessly so far. Mid-2012 MacBook Pro 15" 2.6 GHz i7. Your tutorial was so simple to follow. Thank you so much. Cheers!
@@leroyreynolds5472 That's excellent, I'm really happy it worked for you and thank you for letting me know!
Did do this a while back, which meant I ran into some issues here and there until I got the latest OCLP version (1.2.1 as of my comment). Works great. I have it running on both 13" 2012 mbps and 15" 2012 mbps. Insanely, I also put it on an old buster 2009 15" mbp w/ cheap 256 ssd. It is slow there, but still quite usable for everyday.
This was a smooth and easy guide. Thanks for your tutorial. My macbook working great so far. Thanks
Does it work with 4GB ram ?
I have a 2012 macbook pro. I installed a 1tb samsung ssd this morning then spent the afternoon installing Sonoma. Your video was excellent. It works great! Thank you so much!
Thanks for making these! I was at the Mac store recently and am really putting off upgrading my trio of 2012. These Videos are great!
Thank you so much for this video, having ADHD made other videos difficult to follow but yours was completely easy to follow along with when it came to updating my 2012 iMac. Happy New Year!
I have been following your videos for over a year now. I followed your instructions and upgraded may Mid 2012 MacBook Pro to a 500GB SSD and a 16GB. RAM, It was smooth installing the Ventura on it and then I made a switch from the 2012 MacBook to the 2016 MacBook Pro and here I am about to install the sonama, Your instructions are very precise and clear and that's why I am confident this will be a success. I will drop an update as soon as I'm done install sonama.
Been looking to upgrade my 2012 MBP and came across your page. Watched a video last night, bought some new components and I’m giving this a go tonight, can’t wait
how’d it go? I upgraded my mid 2012 MBP 2 years ago and it’s pretty awesome. occassionally I have a slow startup but it’s rare and probably related to startup software bogging down. I’m not that tech savvy either.
Thank you. I was considering buying a new MacBook Pro until I came across your video. Your instructions were on point and easy to follow.
Thank you for this! I bought this same MacBook Pro a couple years back to learn more about the Mac OS and just never got around to using it. Just finally bought an ssd upgrade for it and got the ram to 8gb from the 4gb it came with and decided to try the patcher for the first time. Was a lot more streamlined than I thought and a super easy process. This thing still runs great considering it's age
Sincere thanks. MBP 2012 had my fav keyboard and thanks to you it’s back in action.
Hi Steve, your tutorial works flawlessly! I just installed Sonoma on my 2012 Macbook Pro. Thank you and keep up the good work!!!
Thank you, thank you! My 2012 macbook pro was recently returned to me, and found your video in the process of upgrading the ram and installing a SSD. Really fun project and very much excited to have this machine back and see what all I can do with it!
I followed every step exactly. It got a little rough during the file extraction with an error message saying the software update couldn’t be completed. But I kept rebooting and now I have Sonoma 14.5 installed on my 2012 MacBook Pro! Thank you so much!!
I have the same error you rebooted with the usb flash? which option you selected? thanks!
Thank you so much for your tutorials! I have only 1 MacBook, It is the 2012 pro with a dual core i5. I upgraded the ram to 16 GB, and the drive to a Samsung evo 500 GB ssd. Using your guided tutorial I now have Mac OS Sonoma running great on this machine which has allowed me to install the latest upgraded apps. Keep up the great videos! Now, if only I could upgrade the Processor to a i7.
That's great news, I'm really good that you found it helpful and that it worked for you!
On the same boat @kbarnes0 thanks a million @Eevnos! Wasn’t able to run Numbers & Pages app on the Catalina that’s most important thing I needed the laptop for !!
how does safari works on a MacBook Pro mid 2012 using Sonoma? And does it get hotter than catalina?@@ParulDhalla @Eevnos
Same Thing here but I replaced the harddrive With a 1TB HDD and build a own Fusion Drive
Did you able to install Xcode latest 15 in it ?
Typing this from a 2012 MBP on macOS Sonoma 14.2.1, thanks for making this video. Now I have a good computer for school!

Thank you sooooo much Mr. Eevnos. I have installed and it works perfect. Thank you!!!
Writing this comment on my 2012mbp with this new Sonoma Os.
Excellent!
I’m very happy it worked for you!
Thanks to you, I just updated my MacBook Pro 2012 to Sonoma to use the continuity camera and it works ! (even when the built-in webcam was broken years ago) 😅
Really!!? Lemme check on mine!
Oh man it works like a charm!

What size ssd card do you have installed on your mac?
500gb
Fantastic!!! I just followed the process you provided and the installation was perfect! Thanks, and Congrats!!!
You’re welcome, I’m very glad it worked for you!
You are appreciated, for doing what you do!
But please be aware my friend had trouble finding the open core gui because they are in a drop down titled “ASSETS” not in plain view… and since i had to go look and point it out, i thought id mention it here just in case she isnt the only one struggling with that.
Woow, it works!
Finally I can install Sonoma on my 2012 Macbook Pro
Thank you for your videos!
Thanks ❤ took me half day to do it but finally successfully done it thanks man
I can't believe it is working great on my 2012 MacBook pro! Thank you very much !
Great tutorial, loved it, It was very helpful and a professional way to tech how to install Sonoma on an officially unsupported MacBook Pro.
Thanks for the excellent tutorial! My 2012 mbp is like new again. I still have 4 gbs of memory but I upgraded to 1 tb ssd storage so it was still fast.
The reason why I want to upgrade is because of the continuity feature with iphone. Because of you I saved myself from spending 1300$.
Thank you for your video. Following your instructions, I successfully installed macOS 14.5 Sonoma on my Mac Pro (2012 mid). I really appreciate it.
Is it as fast as Catalina ?
@@MrYughurta Since my graphics card is a GeForce GTX 680 2G, it's not that fast, even though the system is upgraded. I think it should be better after switching to a rx 6900 xt.
It took me a while but I made it. THANK YOU SO MUCH. God bless you
Thanks you saved me needing to buy a new Mac for college. 2012 MBP dual core i5 with 16GB ram and SSD.
flawless install. thank you for your research and video !
You're the GOAT for this, thanks :)
Thanks so much!
Thanks for this, hopefully able to extend the life a bit more since this 10+ year old MBP that is only used for web games.
Amazing video I used my external hard drive instead of a USB and it worked wonderful
Did you have to wipe it out?
Of course@@nelbn
Me too the USB stick sucked on 2 different ones I had to format drive but it went really fast on USBc drive Vs Lame SD card ... Those SD are not trustworthy...
Wow Amazing thank you for the tips and the tutorial! Very well done.
Thanks! Wonderful tutorial ❤
Amazing that we can use our old MBP. Ty😂
Yeah, I love the fact that we can still keep these things running!
Thank you!
I’m o all doing this, keep in mind that some steps really take a long time, so be patient. 👍
Thank you for this!
I did some other RUclipsrs Sonoma step by step and idk what happened that my MacBook 2012 just stopped working as in my wifi didn’t want to connect anymore
Update I did your step by step and my computer is working thank you so much 😊 for this video
So I did this way but I have the same problem you had with the wifi so what did u do differently?
And please please do u know how I can get back my old system if I can’t fix this because I’m in need to get it back running asap pls reply
@@hamzaeldahrawy1370 o rewatched this RUclips video and saw everything step by step and redid everything.. make sure when you reboot it you press on to the option key he mentions it in the video..
@@bfernandez615 rn my max can’t connect to the internet and the wallpaper is white I already deleted the older Mac OS so how do I repeat
Up
How did you do it ? I am stuck because it doesn't work with the wifi ( connected but doesn't acces internet) and i can't really do anything else
This was amazing thank you very much!
Thanks bro, keep healthy
you a good man I did not try yet but I'm sure you saying and doing the right in easy way
Thank you very much! Great Video🤙
Thank You Again Your The Man.
just same on the ventura nice using the same macbook .. just upgraded to ventura yesterday
Hey thank you for your video but I’m stuck after rebooting my Mac it keeps back and for like 10 times 😢 and I can’t continue doing the installation what do you suggest?
Thank you so much SR!!!!
Did an in-place upgrade from Catalina with a bootcamp Windows 10 partition. Everything worked straight away and Windows partition untouched.
EDIT: You can also update to 14.2 through software update. After a few reboots the loader will hang, just reboot in safe mode (holding shift) log in, and let it finish, then go back in through safe mode and rerun the root patcher.
You the man! Thank you.
You're welcome!
Thanks for watching and commenting!
Omg, thank you so much!!!!
First of all welcome back we haven't seen a video from you in a while other than the one you posted the other day first time in a while. Second what is Sonoma? The only time I think of Sonoma is the retailer and Warehouse Williams-Sonoma and can it also be used on a windows laptop?
Thanks, I had some personal stuff to take care of this year, but I'm back now.. thanks for sticking around!
Sonoma is the newest version of MacOS.
When my laptop booted into the new software. and booting in the usb drive. the open core patcher doesn’t show up when i boot the laptop up. and the open core isn’t in any of the files. And the wallpaper doesn’t show up. i have to manually set the wallpaper
Also worth mentioning not only can you boot and run it from a thumb drive but you can first partition your hard drive for you to anytime boot the originally supported OS and your new OS and if you have it like me I have another partition on my intel Mac for Bootcamp. (if you do this you may need cloud or large hard drive; I use both one drive, iCloud, and USB drives.
thanks! this video is very very very nice!!!
Thanks alot that helps alot in installation process just want ask if we don't format our internal SSD HD does it work properly or we have to make changes at the time of installation!!!...
Thanks so much!
Very helpful walkthrough, thank you! Is any additional patching needed for system updates or do they just install seamlessly (same way they would on a supported Macbook)? I am researching this as an option to breathe new life into my dad's 2012 MBP but wanted to make sure it wouldn't be too much of a maintenance nightmare for him. Thanks again!
aaaaa thanks man!
You're welcome.
Thank you!
@Eevnos i am already dowload copy link option then then i was dowload manualy in browser so how can i get the installer its says no instaler in application when i tap use existing macos instaler
Thanks for the video! Very nicely made and easy to follow. I had installed Big Sur using this process, but I had no idea it worked for Sonoma as well. But I remember that with Big Sur, the recovery partition wasn't accessible, and turning off SIP was next to impossible. That is required to install some necessary software. Do you happen to know about this / have any ideas?
If i have mbp 2012 with ventura oclp, it could update from software update to sonoma? Or need to install from oclp again?
friend, thank you very much for the video. I would like to know if I can update the system normally through Settings or is there another procedure to perform the update?
very helpful
You are king !!
G'day from Sydney ;-)
Hello from the US!
I have a MacBook Pro 2012 and an iMac intel core 2 running Lion 😂 was considering saving up for a new Mac but I’ll try this first and see how we go
5:41 my macbook pro 2012 I was following everything until here where it finished installing then it now shows a bricked scream can you please help
Do I have to have open core installed on the MacBook I'm using? or can I use my other computer to create the usb drive and just load from that?
Thank you so much for your Tutorals! I'm about to install Sonoma on a 2015 MacBook Pro i7 16GB Ram. The reason I need to is because final cut is not compatible with Monterey 12.7. I would like to ask you if you know if Final cut will operate smoothly on Sonoma installed this way.
Please Help - I installed Ventura on my iMac 27 late 2013, but mire firewire interface is only supported to catalina. So I need to install Catalina over Ventura to get my hardware working again.
Unfortunatly with the patcher the oldest version showing up to install is Big Sur. How can I install Catalina on an older iMac late 2013 with the Patcher? Thanks and best wishes from Berlin
Hello and thanks for the super guide, but I have a little problem...have a Macbook Pro 9.2, when I restart with the Option button, only OS Sonoma bot install appears, I don't have an option for EFI Boot /Sonoma...also can't take off SPI when I reboot with Option + R... any solution?
thanks bro this work i had to get a usb man
Thanks u so much sir ❤❤❤❤
I need some help with mine, whenever I try to reboot/restart my mac to get the white screen to load up, it shows the base drive and not the yellow stuff. What do I do to fix that
Great video! After installing Sonoma my 1tb SSD, 16gb ram Mac book pro mid 2012 had the fans on 6200 rpm permanently. This method works perfectly but the machine is not able to handle Sonoma.
Now that I have the external boot disk can I install this on another computer or do I have to go through the entire process for the other laptop? Thank you so much for sharing this video it worked great on my iMac 2017-18, 1 now I'm going to try this on a 2009 MacBook pro ❤❤❤❤❤❤
for some reason i when i try to install opencore efi to the internal ssd, it doesn't show the internal ssd, only the thumbdrive, i tried doing it manually but while using MountEfi.command it says that the ssd doesn't have an EFI partition, even when making sure the ssd is formatted to GPT/GUID. what should i do ?
whats the problem when it just won't boot without the usb, and has whitescreen, even after installing it on the internal drive?
Hi, I'm using a macbook pro mid 2012, and as i was about to update my system after erasing the drive for my system, and wanting to install the update, it said the was an error purchasing this update
Pls how do i install it? Because i can't go back anymore to my previous macos, and i can'tind it anymore, it just vanished, pls what can i do about it
Any ideas on why i am receving this message near the end of install on Sonoma after reboot - "Storage system verify or repair failed.:(-69716)." I formated USB to APFS and cleared the NVRAM/PRAM and even tried a different USB. The OCLP and Install macOs Sonoma files are on both the USB and in the applications folder. I am running a mid2012 MBP w 16GB 1600 MHz DDR3 RAM and an updated SSD.
every time I would try n download sonoma on my MacBook the Kbs would drop then gives me an error trying to download it, any solutions
I got a question about that procedure... Can i connect my iCloud Account?
It was beautiful and works wiith 4gb ram (I’m impatience my 16gb hasnt come yet)
Thank you kind sir
Thank you, my 2012 Macbook pro is now running Sonoma 14.2.1! Ive only ran into one issue, my bluetooth isnt working for some reason. Does anyone know a fix?
Excellent video, I have the same specifications on my 2012 MacBook Pro, running Catalina OS. If I perform the same upgrade, would I lose Logic Pro X in the process?
Before you install anything: run a complete TIMEMASHINE BACKUP or clone your bootdrive on a second HDD/SSD before you do a update !!!
With every new version of Mac OS you will loose some of the supporting for older Software…
And with this install method your HDD/SSD will be wiped. So your way is:
1. BACKUP, BACKUP AND BACKUP YOUR Drive
2. make the install USB Stick and install Opencore and the update
3. feel the slowness of Sonoma on 2008/2009/2010/2011 Mac’s with core2duo/i5
For this Mashines is Monterey the best idea to run „moderate“. Every better OS slows down this old mashines and software (like maps/tv or the prime tv app) will not work anymore because of the missing Metal support of the hardware.
That Sonoma runs on this old mashines does not mean, that you can use them without loud Cooling fans, hot running CPU and after a click sometimes you can go to the kitchen, brew tea ore make a coffee and after drinking the cup the program is loaded…
To use Sonoma a Mac 2013 (or better) is required and recommended…
After a little bit of perseverence I was able to successfully install Sonoma on my 2012 MBP running Monterey. I had originally thought I could just click on the Update to Sonoma offered under the settings, but I did receive an error message when I tried to do that.
I am seeing the spinner spun forever on login screen where we enter the password. Same thing even after restart and also in safe mode. As soon I touch keyboard spinner comes on. This happening after I could able to install sonoma on my 2014 macbook pro.
Hi I installed Open Core on a iMac Model 18,3, and version 1.3.0 updated Feb 1, and my WIFI and ETHERNET, will not connect any ideas? Also it ask me to install on my hard drive today, I guess that was the update. Any IDEAS or thoughts would really be helpful, its terrible not have internet connection. The WIFI switch will NOT let me turn it to ON ,any ideas would be appreciated.
Can you help me, I follow the process but it was failed in the end and it say that my McBook Pro can only use as drive of other computer because I erased the internal drive of it, where the software was in place before.
Why does not let me go forward and stoped at the update... Because it can't find wireless connection or WiFi it's unseen or not no internet connection so I've tried like on another partition near with partition of macOs Catalina... What should I do....
Hi guys, excellent video, question: it is extremely necessary an SSD for this?
Hey, Good day,
Great tutorial... so the previous and then this one. Been following each step and I noticed that the patch could only upgrade me to Mojave. My system is a MBP mid2014. How can I get it to upgrade to any of the higher OS - at least something about 11 or above?
HELP, Please 🙏🏾
Is it normal for there to be issues connecting my Apple ID during setup? (Eventually found that I should skip, and set up after everything is set up)
Hi! Thanks for the tutorial! The process was flawless until I got to Disk Utility. Formatting the internal SSD will erase everything.... will all my files transfer over to Sonoma or is this a fresh install?
can i install without wipe? my files are important and some apps i use dont work on catalina
I upgrade macbook pro 2015 with nvme ssd. I installed sonoma with opencore but it won't install the efi to the nvme internal. I need to insert the thumb drive to boot the nvme. Is there any fix for this? Note: opencore can't detect the nvme to install and build the efi. But it can install the os there. Please help me.
I did a time machine backup of my SSD on an external drive and did a clean install of Sonoma as per instructions. How Can I retrieve my backed up files (less Catalina program files of course) and re-install on the new Sonoma OS? Thanks for any guidance .
