    Glad you are bringing awareness to dog's car harness's, too many people leave dogs to be completely free moving in the back of a vehicle but as you said they could be hurt or hurt someone else in an accident. Even if you are the safest driver out there, other cars can still cause an accident! Better safe than sorry.

    • @ChronicallyJaquie

      Yes this is such an important topic. Dogs have been seriously injured AND injured passengers when they are not restrained. And not with flimsy leash clips either, it has to be something worthwhile. The Kurgo one I use is not overly pricey and is a good option as is the Sleepy Pod, each for different scenarios.

    Thank you for showing this Jaquie! Dog car safety is so important. My best friend's parents were driving on a road trip down to LA when they hit a bit of traffic. Everyone stopped but in the rear view mirror they could see a huge semi coming full speed at 75mph. They got hit bad and the dogs went into the windshield and passed away in an instant. It was really sad.

    When Harlow looks to the side it kinda looks like she's rolling jer eyes, like "mooom, why am I here?" 😂😂😂
    I'm sure she's happy to be there, that's just kinda what her expression looked like to me😂😂

    Here in Sweden, dogs are classed as cargo while in a car, and cargo has to be secured so it does not become airborne and harm something (or itself) in case of an accident. Most people go with those cages in the trunk, but I wanted a harness. I found the sleepy pod harnesses but I couldn't get one shipped to Sweden at a resonable cost. Luckily I found a just as good alternative (though not in fun colors), a harness that has passed the child safety laws both in Sweden an Germany. So I feel that my labradoodle Millicent is very secure in the back seat. :) Yay for secure dogs in cars!

    Great information & demonstration on the Sleepy Pod harness, Jaquie. It was so cute watching Harlow's body language and her facial expressions while you were explaining the use of the harness. It appears to be an excellent way to secure your loved one ( fur baby) in a vehicle so that they are safe from injury and also not a distraction to the driver. 👍🏼🤗❤️

    We actually use the Kurgo car harness for Riya and it works fantastic. It clips in very similarly to this one and as an added bonus, has a strap along the back that is just looking enough for me to clip a leash wrap around if we are going out for a short errand and I don't want to switch to her gear.

    We use the sleepy pod harness too! The only issue we have had is that the straps seem to not stay in place, we have to make the harness smaller each time we use it.

    • @ChronicallyJaquie
      @ChronicallyJaquie  6 лет назад +2

      I have not had that issue but we only used it for the drive up, have not had it long. I wonder if the "terrain" model that came out in 2017 does that, the buckles are metal instead of plastic.

    Lol the problem with my Service dog is he likes to lay or step on the seat belt buckle and unbuckle it 😂 He doesn't do it on purpose but it happens. So I have a extra 8 way leash and I tie it and secure it to a child restraint behind the seat, then I pop it over and buckle it either to his vest or 3 way harness. But on long rides u don't typically make him wear it because it rubs on his fur and uncomfortable. But he has great balance and never falls. So he's safe

    I agree that there should be a car safety thing for dogs but I’ve seen them put through real crash tests and fail miserably. There needs to be a government-regulated canine seatbelt system, one that provides the kind of safety the brands currently on the market purport to have, the kind of safety we should be able to expect for our dogs. But there isn’t one. And in the test I watched only one out of 16 brands passed. Which is not a very good ratio.

  • @Kknderbueno

    My dog doesn’t love her sleepy pod, but I put it on her on long trips where she falls asleep anyways. I imagine what would happen if something happened to her if we got in an accident and it would kill me. I think of it just like kids who don’t like their car seat.
    I do wish I would put it on her for shorter trips, too, but she will try to get out of it and twist herself up.

    Another Pro & Con - Pro: Sleepy Pod now offers a harness designed for working dogs that has optional side packs you can buy. Con: They are not recommended for certain deep chested dogs (like Greyhounds).
    Personally my dog (pet) is small so I use a PupSaver car seat for her. If I had a larger dog that was a breed/shape that fit I'd go for the SleepyPod. I wouldn't feel safe with a car clip as they're not crash tested, the impact from a 6omph car crash is going to be a lot more powerful then the dog just jumping out of the car. But I understand it's a difficult decision for SD owners who may be unable to constantly unhook their dog from one harness and put them in another. I hope in the future there are more car harnesses available that can double as working dog harnesses.
    For people who are looking Kurgo, ezydog, and Ruffware also offer car harnesses that have been crash tested.

    You shouldn't be locking the seatbelt. Do not pull it out entirely that's not how it's been crash tested. Also it would restrict him from needing to do his job if ever needed.

    • @ChronicallyJaquie
      @ChronicallyJaquie  6 лет назад

      So I think it is great you want to learn more! But there is not really a "list" I can give you. One thing about chronic illness is that it effects everyone differently and it can vary in how it effects you from day to day, and even hour to hour. Flare ups vs periods of stability, that random off day, doing everything right but things still go wrong, doing everything right and things go very well, etc. I suggest going to my "New Here" playlist for more info though, it is a good place to start! There is a link in the description as well as links to other helpful playlists. :)

    I dont like this product....to me, I think comfort is more important for my dog than safety on such a long car ride. She cant see very much and can she scratch herself? Its just too restricting. Its not worth it for me.

    • @ChronicallyJaquie
      @ChronicallyJaquie  6 лет назад +7

      See I am the opposite, I think Harlow's safety is more important. But thankfully she is still comfortable (I know not every dog would be though, so each owner has to take that into consideration). Har does not move around in the car. Instead she likes to lay down, spread out and sleep. This allows her to do that. She can still sit up if she wants to, but she is not actually the type of dog who likes to look out the window. She is like me, falling asleep as soon as we hit the road lol. We also stop every 2-3 hours to stretch our legs and she always gets a walk, treats, water, etc. So I still feel this was a good option for us personally, but as you pointed out it may not work for every dog. That is why I tried to give as much info as possible. :)

    • @WhiTiger
      @WhiTiger 6 лет назад +3

      We LOVE our Sleepy Pod. We travel cross country (2600 miles) twice a year and we take our dog with us. When she was little she fit comfortably in the car. Now that she's bigger she doesn't fit so well in the back seat. We have removed a seat in the van so she has space. We use the seatbelt from the ceiling to the floor and it requires a key to unlock the seatbelt but she has soo much room to move and lay down but it still keeps her safe. The sleepy pod doesn't keep the dog pinned to the seat, or the floor. It gives the dog as much space to move as the seatbelt does for people. If the seatbelt locks into place there is less give and keeps them in place. So as long as it doesn't lock there is quite a bit of range of movement.
