What do u think of the Ecco moc toe?
Basically the wedge sole for ironworkers is so you don't get the heel suddenly dropping off the beam(or even the bolts sticking up on a connection)you're standing on while a few hundred feet up.
Could be a bit problematic. While it may be a bit over hyped, it will probably only take one close bobble to for you to swear off heeled boots permanently.
Personally I prefer heeled Wellington style(no laces to catch and a nice heel for hanging on walls), but I'm generally in the rod patch as opposed to walking the steel, though I do that as well and never felt the need to go with a different boot
Good video.
One more point on moc toes for work boot.
When welding and burning, slag can catch on the stitched toe box and sit smoldering on the leather where on a regular boot, the slag just rolls off the side of the boot.
My $.02
Dropping an inch you didn't expect when at height is something you wouldn't understand unless you've been there.
Commonly referred to as a one inch heart attack.
3rd gen Ironworker here. Always wore diehards with the wedge sole. Later I got on the otherside of the hook and as a crane operator, the boots last alot longer with the hydraulic oil all over them plus the miles of walking on concrete and asphalt or dancing through rod patches and trips up and down columns and out on fields of bar joists- don't happen to my boots anymore. Now its chauffeur trips from the parking lots to the cranes and back
Just a suggestion: You’ve covered the moccasins for MOctober so why not do a loafer series? Sperry Top-Siders, penny loafers, and even Gucci bit loafers. There’s history and a spectrum of similar shoes at different price points. Thanks for all your great series you’ve already made. Keep ‘em coming.
loafuary
@@sirdouglas.2870 Yes! Excellent suggestion.
I was thinking loafebruary
@@morganeasy787 Lol! Nice!
Loafvember.
I'd love moctober again! But with worn in pairs to see which have held up best.
Perhaps he could come up with some sort of Halloween themed decision making device, that would determine which method he uses to cut them in half? Something a bit like a wheel of fortune 🤔
OG work boot. I started with Sears Diehard as an apprentice. That's what started the trend in the westcoast.Soles were 100% covered. Didn't pay for any boots for a while with that warranty. They were good back in the day. And classic looking.
I've heard a lot of people talk about having started with the diehards, any idea where they used to be made ?
Not sure about older ones but at least in the last ten years I’ve had three and they were all made in China.
Would love to see a video about motorcycle boots. Getting back into motorcycling and having a hard time deciding between buying quality leather boots with no actual crash protection (like Nick’s) and motorcycle specific boots with crash protection which are often not great quality.
Had I known rose anvil 2 was gonna be like this, I wouldn't have waited soo long. 3 months late but still blowing up. I remember when his first channel started and now hes got a second. My man. Keep it rolling brotha. Still one of the best to do it
Would be cool if you went more into the history of styles of footwear and the companies behind them on this second channel. Maybe looking at the processes more in depth too? 😊🙏
These long form videos are great. I understand why they might not make sense for the main channel, but it's great to see you go in depth. Keep them coming!
Glad to see Russell moccasin boot in this comparison, looking forward to full review!
At 14:00 information is incorrect, Russell moccasin toe is one piece wrapped over the top of the upper. This way stitch goes thru 3 layers, one time thru upper and twice thru top piece.
Love the channel but I would say that for an ironworker moc toe wedge sole is absolutely essential. Having even a slightly wider footprint make a huge difference in how you balance across the iron
As a welder with big and wide feet. (15, 4e in shoes) it's nice that the moc toe boots run a size smaller and I can fit into a 2e just fine! But the ones I've found to be the best for me are the redwing the traction tred ones. 2440
That's cool you busted out the Russell mocs. They are my go to for dove and quail season. I can walk 10 miles through Prarie grass, and agricultural land and stay comfortable all day. It would be cool if you did a video about Russell boots. I'm sure it sucks butchering a $600 pair of boots, but it's for the fans...lol
It's my understanding that moc toes took off with ironworkers because of the huge amount of Native Americans who became ironworkers or "skywalkers." My great and 2x great grandpa Fox being among them.
I am one those Hipsters who rocks Redwings. In my defense I grew up in a large lower middle class family. My dad always vought us muc toes because they last better than sneakers. So I grew up wearing muc toes, thing is my dad could not afford nice boots we wore J-Mart crappy boots. I remember they would they turn soxes yellow becuase the dye bleed. When I could afford it purchased a quality muc toe.
Awesome video. Thanks for taking the time to give us the scoop on Moc Toes.
I love that you started this off with your old house slippers, and would actually love to see some of those moc-toes in a future Moctober. Boat shoes, deck shoes, and driving shoes are a small part of the footwear world but the construction is so simple that brands really can't hide anything, and I'd love to see you compare those leathers. Great work as always, love this new channel so far!
Really enjoy the deep dive on shoe knowledge
Got the Thorogood mocs after watching a few of your videos and absolutely love them, super comfortable and look good 👌
In the hope that you will make more videos like this, i really like watching people who know what there talking about doing in depth/rambling videos about the stuff they know about, thanks for the videos
Great deep dive into the comparative construction of moc-toes. Really has clarified my understanding and corrected my misconceptions. I'm now more likely to successfully select a boot I'll be happy with from the get-go. Excellent content. Would like to see more videos in this format.
I see a pair of Russell's in my future 👀
Loved the in-depth look on the moc toe boot. It's certainly a favorite of mine (love my Red Wings) and the Diviers are very nice looking boots. Thanks for the history lesson.
Always love informative videos. The better informed a consumer the better the industry will have to be.
Very informative. I've never thought much about boots and their construction. This opened my eyes. Thanks!
Love this channel thanks for bringing moctober back.
I really liked learning about the three piece construction and I now understand why that build style is generally more expensive in my experience. Thanks Westin.
I like the idea of a separate channel in which you go deeper into detail about boots, their construction, materials, and quality control. I am looking forward to seeing more on your new channel! Good luck!
Really liked this content, liked the approach on how to choose a moc toe or any other boot!
Keep up the deep-dives into boot history and construction!
I love understanding the 'why', so this kind of video is great content in my book.
Really like this content. I like the history of the companies like what you did in the Thorogood and Origin videos. Thanks for all the hard work and good advice.
Love the second channel!!! Please continue these kinds of videos!!!
Watching my second Moctober, the whole channel is a great tool. Just got my first pair of moc toes. Searched for "seconds" as another video suggested.
Got them last night. Timberland American Craft, freaking amazing at $125. Horween nubuck, Goodyear welt, Vibram sole, leather footbed, American made. I'm stunned at these boots.
Thanks for the knowledge bombs.
The 2 piece moctoe I like is the Sperry Topsider. I know it's not a boot, but a good example of the 2 piece mocassin style.
Love the channel and the OG channel. Got me to take care of my good leather shoes, whether boots or boat shoes.
This is a great video. Many people might not have any knowledge about boots, shoes, or leather. And thus is a great way to educate the masses.
I didn't know you had a second channel. That was good info. I had a custom pair of Russell Mocs made years ago. Good construction and they are good for light hiking. I like the zero drop in the heel. I like the in-depth channel.
i love all these boots and i think you are such a good person and know about boots so much!
Love this channel! Love this style of content! TBH, u could post a vid of toaster using the litterbox and I'd watch that too, lol!
I have been watching your channels for secession years. I really enjoy your channels. Thank you.
It's just compulsive viewing - I really dig both channels. I don't even own any footwear that isn't trainers (sneakers), but the video's showing the construction of sneakers and boots is brilliant, just thinking about what goes in to the things you stick on your feet every day, there's so much detail and knowledge and consideration - now I want to try out some boots and see how they go - as I've not worn shoes every day for a long time now. Love it. 👍
My favorite pair of shoes are a moc toe slip on by Clarks. They look a lot like boat shoes. They’re probably three years old. Fit like a glove. One of the most comfortable pair of shoes I’ve ever owned.
I love these in depth videos on the second channel, please keep doing them.
That's what I came to say. The longer format gives you arrive room to make more interesting comparisons.
They are very comfy & well made boots. Second pair on order & cant wait for their new release next year
I like the in depth style video. Great work.
So much great information on this and your many other videos. The only thing I noticed as missing is the small group I fit in of people who need a moc toe. I find a well made moc toe (my choice is the Red Wing Heritage) with a wedge sole is better than althetic shoes, rough terrain hiking boots and even "walking shoes" for walking long hours on city streets. They are smooth walking, soft landing, quiet and protective enough for walking tours of New York City or New Orleans and every city in between. And good enough looking for every venue you visit.
I think this type of video and this channel are a great idea . Keep up the great work.
Good info, despite I never had any desire for a moc toe boot.
I love the longer in depth videos and the normal vids, please keep doing both! Also, would you do a longer video on cap toes and find a practical affordable pair that actually has two layers in the toe
Awesome video. I love this style of video. I’m very interested in a video of the different stitching.
I dont use my moc toe as much as id in the weather I live in, these videos help to keep an eye on whats important
Good information on Moc Toe Boots. Thank you.
Yes please keep going with this channel. Let’s get that 4hr shoe construction/s video.
Thanks for fantastic information! Very much appreciated!
Love the information! Can't decide if I should go for the Danner Bull Run Lux or the Thursday Diplomat
Never knew about the 2nd channel ! Great content
Been waiting for this like all year. I basically only wear Moc toes , or shit kickers if I’m in the mud, they’re my favorite boot style by far.
Love all this information! The only thing I'd love to hear more about is which boots are most friendly to orthotic wearers. Living the MITUSA series. Cheers Rose Anvil squad.
I like this style. I really enjoy your reviews and like your reviews. I have bought boots and shoes based on you and Stridewise reviews. Keep up the good work, like the content very much. I must be in a small crowd cause Moc Toes ar emy favorite boots. Chukkas are my second. Thanks again for your channel..
Would love to see a deep dive series, kinda a best/worst, into a side zip tactical boot style (ie) Bates, Danner, etc., for those of us that use them on the daily for profession.
Love this style of video!
Always find these type videos interesting.. I did alot of industrial sewing in the military and came to enjoy fabricating.. interesting fact: we had a sewing machine that could punch holes in a quarter..!!
Supporting the video for the next part
Would be cool if you did some more leather and boot care videos on this channel maybe compare products and different cleaning methods for different types of leather and boots like how to clean suede vs grain vs rough out. I like the deep dive videos like this
Purchased a pair of White’s mock toe for myself and my brother after watching year 1 and 2 of Moctober - let ‘em know you’re doing God’s work
got some Thursday Diplomats and theyre really good for my first pair of grown-up boots
I cherish my danner moc toe boots.. I actually bought them because of your channel
Love it. Keep it up , thanks.
Im watching this on my phone while resting it on a moc toe boot, working on making my first moccasin boot by hand, saddle stitching everything. Veg tan insole and internal counter cover, veg tan outsole under the moccasin construction.
I've got a pair of carolina amp usa 6". I'm pretty happy with them.
Sadly, the all-time king of moc toe boots seems to be gone. The OG Red Wing Irish Setter Sport Boot was a true moccasin with a one-piece side like that three-piece boot. They were divine.
The newer Wingshooter is close and I'd love to see you cut a pair.
I got a pair of the new version( Irish Setter) feel great on feet and no break in time, there is a reason for it, plastic welt and cardboard soil. I got those when I knew nothing about boots. Now I would not even look at them, educated myself and have whites 8" moc toe, and iron rangers to switch out so they can breathe. Maybe if at all possible I might have them redone properly.
Very in-depth video!
I absolutely love this very in depth content. One of the nerds that's gets waaaay to into things lol
Goodyear vs stormwelt vs stichdown video would be nice!
I have said it and I will say it again, this channel is the best
Awesome educational video
Never wore moc toes until I became an ironworker. Now they're all I wear. Love my Thorogoods, redwings aren't bad, really want to try the White's Perry.
So because of your channels an what you do …. I bought thurogoods as they fit my budget. I’ve never owned a boot that fit my feet an with your help an info I can walk without the pain I’ve had . Thanks for all your doing ❤❤
Super informative, thanks Weston. Would love to see Rancourt and EasyMoc reviewed.
I must be a part of the one percent. I wear them because of the wide toe box and the comfort of the wedge sole and only wear the ones that have a shank for more solidity. I have knee problems and wide feet. I pretty much watch your channel for moctober and to find alternatives for the old Sears Diehard boots/shoes I used for years.
If possible, I might actually prefer this channel to the original rose anvil! :D
The long format allows more information at a nice pace. And I'm very happy to see that the Alden Indy seems to be part of this Moctober!
Really like the Dievier boots
Consider this type of video…SUPPORTED.
I didn't know people used them for work but they look great for casual use.
It's almost Moctober! Can you please do a review of the timberland Barstow?
Unless it's Croctober, then it's the rubber shoe review.
I would love to see a video about moc toe waterproof. That would be great! Awesome channel!!
Great videos, thanks.
In depth info videos on specific styles would be amazing.
Look forward to seeing the Russell Mocs get dissected! If I recall correctly they use the Munson Last. I’d like to see you do a video on different lasts on the #2 channel.
Only two models are made on Munson last, Minimalist Thula Thula (ones used in this video, I believe) and Mimimalist Country Squire Signature South 40 Birdshooter. He did show Munson last when talking about White's boots so it could be that he is working on moccasin project with Russell 😉
Great video! just go on big style!
It was a good video and I really enjoyed it
As I commented on the other channel, the moc toe stitching helps hold structure and keeps the toe from collapsing. If it is just shaped leather it will flatten out. Something must be done to hold that shape, whether it is a cap, shaped liner, or sewn. Not a true moccasin, as you showed, but not merely for cosmetic purposes.
would really love to see a video about enginer/Jack boots (cowboy boots, pull on boots, aso.)
I do like these style videos it’s like a podcast
If you havent already, an everything about cowboy boots would be great. Love your content across both channels
yes sir keep doint it .i wud like to see british underground boots vs US
Liking the new channel. What about checking out Hanwag boots as they have a doublestitched welt.
Like it. What makes a quality boot? What to look for? Maybe in specific types/uses/design
Love this channel and want to see more content. How about a deep dive into boat shoes. Sperry, Quoddy, Sebago etc. Thanks
i have some sts 11572 Sperry topsider, moctoes.. the shoe box is so thin, but the construction (thank you SIRE) ir aparently good.. there is defnitly a shank, two part moctoe, all leather, i used my lighter all over them for 5 seconds, didn't even star to turn dark.. but the toe box is just not comfortable.. :(
i couldn't find them online. they costed just about 150EUR and this is why i am amazed by the construction.
cheers!
Thanks!!!! I need wide toe boxes
Great video
