What do u think of the Ecco moc toe?

  • @drudgenemo7030

Basically the wedge sole for ironworkers is so you don't get the heel suddenly dropping off the beam(or even the bolts sticking up on a connection)you're standing on while a few hundred feet up.
Could be a bit problematic. While it may be a bit over hyped, it will probably only take one close bobble to for you to swear off heeled boots permanently.
Personally I prefer heeled Wellington style(no laces to catch and a nice heel for hanging on walls), but I'm generally in the rod patch as opposed to walking the steel, though I do that as well and never felt the need to go with a different boot
    Good video.
One more point on moc toes for work boot.
When welding and burning, slag can catch on the stitched toe box and sit smoldering on the leather where on a regular boot, the slag just rolls off the side of the boot.
    My $.02

3rd gen Ironworker here. Always wore diehards with the wedge sole. Later I got on the otherside of the hook and as a crane operator, the boots last alot longer with the hydraulic oil all over them plus the miles of walking on concrete and asphalt or dancing through rod patches and trips up and down columns and out on fields of bar joists- don't happen to my boots anymore. Now its chauffeur trips from the parking lots to the cranes and back

Just a suggestion: You’ve covered the moccasins for MOctober so why not do a loafer series? Sperry Top-Siders, penny loafers, and even Gucci bit loafers. There’s history and a spectrum of similar shoes at different price points. Thanks for all your great series you’ve already made. Keep ‘em coming.

OG work boot. I started with Sears Diehard as an apprentice. That's what started the trend in the westcoast.Soles were 100% covered. Didn't pay for any boots for a while with that warranty. They were good back in the day. And classic looking.

Glad to see Russell moccasin boot in this comparison, looking forward to full review!
At 14:00 information is incorrect, Russell moccasin toe is one piece wrapped over the top of the upper. This way stitch goes thru 3 layers, one time thru upper and twice thru top piece.

As a welder with big and wide feet. (15, 4e in shoes) it's nice that the moc toe boots run a size smaller and I can fit into a 2e just fine! But the ones I've found to be the best for me are the redwing the traction tred ones. 2440

I am one those Hipsters who rocks Redwings. In my defense I grew up in a large lower middle class family. My dad always vought us muc toes because they last better than sneakers. So I grew up wearing muc toes, thing is my dad could not afford nice boots we wore J-Mart crappy boots. I remember they would they turn soxes yellow becuase the dye bleed. When I could afford it purchased a quality muc toe.

Boat shoes, deck shoes, and driving shoes are a small part of the footwear world but the construction is so simple that brands really can't hide anything, and I'd love to see you compare those leathers. It's just compulsive viewing - I really dig both channels. I don't even own any footwear that isn't trainers (sneakers), but the video's showing the construction of sneakers and boots is brilliant, just thinking about what goes in to the things you stick on your feet every day, there's so much detail and knowledge and consideration - now I want to try out some boots and see how they go - as I've not worn shoes every day for a long time now. Love it. 👍

So much great information on this and your many other videos. The only thing I noticed as missing is the small group I fit in of people who need a moc toe. I find a well made moc toe (my choice is the Red Wing Heritage) with a wedge sole is better than althetic shoes, rough terrain hiking boots and even "walking shoes" for walking long hours on city streets. They are smooth walking, soft landing, quiet and protective enough for walking tours of New York City or New Orleans and every city in between. And good enough looking for every venue you visit.

As I commented on the other channel, the moc toe stitching helps hold structure and keeps the toe from collapsing. If it is just shaped leather it will flatten out. Something must be done to hold that shape, whether it is a cap, shaped liner, or sewn. Not a true moccasin, as you showed, but not merely for cosmetic purposes.

i have some sts 11572 Sperry topsider, moctoes.. the shoe box is so thin, but the construction (thank you SIRE) ir aparently good.. there is defnitly a shank, two part moctoe, all leather, i used my lighter all over them for 5 seconds, didn't even star to turn dark.. but the toe box is just not comfortable.. :(
i couldn't find them online. they costed just about 150EUR and this is why i am amazed by the construction.
    cheers!
