Best gift ever- (story of karma)
I tried sewing quilts once- turns out sewing isn't my thing lol, I donated all of my material to a local op shop (material included a mix of materials that all had meaning to me, I.e kids uniforms, old blankets, mums left over materials ect) about 6mths later my house burnt down and the local church donated a quilt to me that they had made- it was made completely of the materials I had donated!! (They didn't know ot was my material, just complete luck)
considering I lost everything in that fire- I now had a blanket made of things that I had gifted.
10yrs later I still have it on my bed ❤

My husband’s great-aunt died a couple months ago (she was in her 90s). She lived next door to us, so we’ve been helping go through her things.
She was an artist, so my in-laws had me go through her studio to figure out what could be donated, what needed to be thrown out, etc. because I’m an artist too.
I bring it up because she did a lot of collages that had a similar vibe to these frames. They were mostly around the size of a sheet of paper, but definitely had a similar feel.
She had 2 large boxes full of old magazines and books that were her collage materials. Some of them went back to the 1950s and 60s.
    It’s extensive.
The family has been letting me use her art studio since my house is small and I don’t have much space.
I think I might have to go next door later today (it’s 5am right now.) and make I little collage.
Maybe use some of her materials in conjunction with some of mine.
Pay homage to her in gratitude.

These frames are cute, you could remove the little stand at the back and attach a magnet. One of my favourite gifts was back when I was a teenager my mum got me a vintage suitcase full of old art supplies that she found at some second hand shop. It was probably the happiest I’ve ever been after opening Christmas presents and I used them all throughout my late teens and early twenties.

As a kid each year I would get a new beach towel from mum and dad. So functional and boring as a kid to open on Christmas day, but was also instantly attached to them! There was something really special about having a household item that was my own as a kid when everything in the house, everything I used wasn't mine. A tiny piece of control in a world ruled by grown ups.

These frames are so adorable. 🥰. I think they are my favourite. My most treasured gift was my Cabbage patch doll. It was all I ever wanted when I was young. It was given to me by my mum, who passed away not long after it was given to me. She stayed on my bed while I was growing up and eventually got packed away. My dad told me that mice had gotten into the bag that she was kept and he threw the bag out. I was devastated. Fast forward 30+ years and I’m unpacking a chest that was kept in storage at my Aunties place and she was in the chest. I cried and she now sits on my bed every day. ❤

When I was maybe 6 or so, my dad got me a custom made ceramic door tile with my name on it. My name wasn’t a common spelling and I couldn’t ever find it on anything so it was the first thing with my actual name on it. It had a decoupage little girl in it, she was 3D and popped out from the tile, and it had a blue ribbon all around the edge of the tile. I still have it now, 41 years later!

My most favorite gift or maybe most treasured is a better discription. I was gifted a round painting by an artist. We where all going out to dinner, my parents, he and his partner and I at the restaurant my brother worked. Being given an artwork is something to be treasured in and off itself off course. But it turnout to be the last night I saw my brother alive. He died in a car accident, early Christmas morning 2000. That painting became something super special and it has a proud place in my house. I don't tell this story for sympathy, but to remind you to hug the once you love!!!

The gift Ive held onto is a homemade dollhouse my mom found at a garage sale. She gave it to me when i was a kid. She and I spent alot of time restoring it. I used it to play with my Slyvan Family characters (they are now known as Calico Critters).
This house is solid wood and now has been moved three times and I plan to keep moving it.
Its a reminder to me that once my mom loved me. Cause we have had sever falling put that can not be repaired. (She committed a crime against me and blamed my dead brother for it. So please don't tell me to reach out and try to repair the relationship.)

I love your do as I say not as I do moment with the resin.
My favourite gift is a purple floral embroidery made by my great-gran. It was given to me years ago, and at the time I didn't really appreciate it, it wasn't my style or anything, I didn't know how to hang a picture. A few years later I decided I didn't like it because she needed a clean up. I stripped and repainted the frame. Changing the frame from sad yellowing white paint to a deep purple that matches the flowers changed how I felt about the piece as a whole.
Gran passed about 3 years ago, and when mum called I stood and stared at the embroidery all day. I hung it above my sewing desk when we moved shortly after, and while I don't embroider, she is with me in every stitch, every time I thread a needle. Any time I feel down about what I create I look up at her work and remember she didn't start out sewing photo realistic flowers, she worked at it for decades. The piece I have was made when she was in her late 70s or early 80s, she must have had 60+ years experience under her belt at the time (assuming embroidery was a skill she learned early). My skills may be alright now, but imagine how good I'll be in 40 years if I keep going.

I dream about one day being able to pour molds like you do and selling them! I don't have access to a kiln or anything but it seems so fun. My favorite gift that surprised me was a pair of earrings - it was the first Christmas my (now husband) and I spent together while we were long distance for two years. I just had such a wave of nostalgia when I saw the vintage storybook of "The Cow Who Fell in the Canal"! My grandmother used to read that book to me as a child, in our native language which is Afrikaans. She was also the person who translated the book from its original Dutch script. My grandmother passed away 11 years ago and we were really close, I miss her so much and this reminded me of her and made me smile. Thank you.

Also... Two and a half years ago I left my home to move across country to be with my wife. I gave up almost everything I owned, and only took what I could fit in my Eurovan (2002 VW Eurovan for those who are curious). Before I left I visited my father who lived only an hour away. I spent many days in his garden helping him plant, care for, and harvest so many vegetables and flowers. Eventually he wasn't able to do a lot of the work himself, having battled (and beat) cancer, open heart surgery, and a stroke, so I ended up caring for his garden. His most favorite plant was a cluster of lavender. As I was heading out to start my cross country move he handed me an envelope. Inside was a cute little card of well wishes, and a sprig of lavender..... It's been two and a half years, and that sprig of lavender is still in my van, a little good luck charm. It's since dried and lost all of it's smell and color, but It's the most valuable thing I own.

Your enthusiasm shines in this work. Love the background painting and collage in resin. My most treasured gift is Christmas related, my church’s Christmas tree had white ornaments and they were getting worn, a new set were ready to put up and the white set given away, the adults picked the most ornate and delicate, I was offered to take one and chose the simple star from the top of the tree, I was maybe 9 or 10. That same star has been at the top of my tree since. It has a gem in the center and iridescent glitter, it makes me very happy. Cheers from the Midwest USA.

These are so great and I can see how they woke up your slumbering creativity! I love them! As for my most unexpected and cherished gift: my husband and were married on December 23rd. We eloped with $200 to Las Vegas. Hotel was $18 for the night & our marriage license was $32. We lived on a love, hope and credit cards for far too many years. Fast forward to 2017. Our lives were better and we purchased our first home in 29 years of marriage. I woke up to help take care of my mom who was suffering from Alzheimer's and near death. The house was full of boxes and moving junk. Sitting a crummy old step stool my husband wished me happy anniversary and handed me a jewelry box. He was sweet to give me inexpensive jewelry over the years so I never expected this: a beautiful diamond ring. There two main diamonds twisted together and aa row of smaller diamonds down the sides. We never had wedding rings exactly. And this had me in tears. While it wasn't that long ago it is something that was so very precious to me. We celebrate 34 years this month. 💚

She taught the craft, held class on Thurs evenings, and I grew up surrounded by all the same smells and messes that surround you.....and I sure do miss it. My most treasured gifts are anything left from the shop. I have a little ceramic owl (4") that I've had for as long as i can remember. I have a whole bunch of Christmas tree deco (all ceramic).
So, it's the memories that are my favorite, not so much an individual gift.

My favourite gift is a gorgeous pottery swan. I think it's meant to hold a small potted plant, but I use it to hold other precious memories. It was given to my by an elderly lady I cherished as if she was my own grandmother. Unfortunately, after a severe car accident, she moved far away to live closer to her daughters. She gave me the swan the very last time I saw her. I've heard she's still doing well, living her best life and enjoying the beach.
My second favourite was given to me as a birthday gift this year. It's a gorgeous antique glass lidded display case. I got a little teary-eyed when I unwrapped it. It's simple and beautiful, with a lovely little bead detail around the glass and a lockable latch to protect whatever I put inside. I haven't yet decided what I'll put in it - dragon jewellery, vintage toys or something else.

Best gift ever was my bookshelf! I'm a voracious bookworm and always have been. I never had enough space for them though. One year for Christmas, my dad made me a bookshelf. He'd been going to my grandparents' for weeks to build it as a surprise. I still have and use it to this day.
Bonus: I moved to another city when I was 20, and I didn't have room for my bookshelf at the place I moved to. I ended up moving to a bigger place two years later, and my dad drove to my place to drop off some of my furniture. This included my beloved bookshelf which he'd gone over with stain and some sort of glossy finish. I never asked or expected him to, but he just wanted to make it a little bit nicer. It's my best and favorite gift twice over.
I love my dad so much, and I'm so grateful for him.

    Best present for me?
    Crocheted blanket.
My mom had a relative crochet me a blanket and though i'm not the biggest fan of that blanket and i don't use it often... it got me into one of my biggest hobbies. Crocheting. Because of that blanket i have made baby booties, hats, headbands, blankets and stuffed toys. I've made so many things and gifted them to so many people. Best gift ever because i probably never would of gotten into crocheting otherwise

My soul cried, when you cut up the books. 😢 Please photocopy them!
I adored the little frames, I would love to play with ideas, like you did, with pictures, and resin. You are so talented, and see great things, in everything you do! ❤
The gift I hold dear, is a Mother’s Day card, with paper quilled butterflies on it, which my daughter had made. What makes it special, is what is written inside. I had not seen my daughter for 7 years, and what was written in the card made me cry with happiness. She said, she had been clean for 5yrs,( heroin addict)and was working, passed her driving test, bought a car, and was in a healthy supportive relationship! I’d waited 20yrs to hear those words, that she was healthy and well. And we met on my birthday, last year, and I held her so tight, I didn’t want to let go! I was so proud of her, and tell her constantly. 💜 She’s now 40, and I’m 60, she’s so beautiful, and always has been, from the moment she was born! So, That is my most precious gift!

This isn't exactly what you were referring to, but it's still my favorite Christmas gift/memory. When I was very little, my father was military and we travelled and were never with extended family for the holidays. My Granny (my Mom's mother) would buy gifts throughout the year and add them to a large box that she would send at Christmas. Very few of the items in the box were wrapped and they were for everyone in the family. Of course, I loved Christmas, but my favorite thing was always that giant "Mystery Box" from my Granny. We'd have our Christmas around the tree and then, as the last thing, we'd all gather around that giant box as my parents would pull individual items out and announce who they were for...when I was 6 years old (that was in 1976!!!) I received what seemed like a humongous teddy bear. I still have him. He's old and worn and not nearly as huge as he seemed back then, but I love him as much today as I did as a child. Because of him, my Granny will always be with me and I can still give my Granny a hug whenever I want. Thank you so much for your channel, Shelby, because you give me that wholesome nostalgic feeling every time I watch your videos. There seems to be a lot more negativity in the world today, but you radiate love for everyone and that's exactly what we need right now!

Favorite gift: I was in full-time ministry on a stipend for 22 years. In 2005, (my 5th year) - my sister, knowing how much I loved to cook/bake, and knowing that I had arthritis in my hands pretty bad, bought me a KitchenAid stand mixer. She was a single mother who didn’t have a lot of money, so it was a shock to receive such an extravagant expensive gift from her. I was overwhelmed by her generosity and thoughtfulness.
I still have my mixer, and use it often. And I think of her sweetness every time I use it! 💝
I also want to say, these little frame artworks are inspired! Well done you!

Best gift ever - I bought a childish magic pencil on a trip, which inspired me to start keeping a sketchbook. I drew every day with that pencil until it was a nub, that I was cramping my fingers trying to use. On my birthday that year, my husband bought me 50 of them! These pencils are kitschy novelties, so it wasn't easy to find them. Best present ever.

Not a favorite gift, but a memorable one!! Back to Christmas 1999. I opened a gift of 500 multi color, multi size zip ties from husband. My daughter’s friend, Brandy, that had moved to Japan, was back in the States and staying with us for two weeks. In her family, her Mom got very posh gifts of fine art, jewelry and such. I always got lovely gifts from my husband but also got extremely practical stuff and funny things too. He knew I loved zip ties and used them constantly. When I opened that package, poor Brandy was horrified!! I learned later that she was waiting for me to burst into tears and run out of the room in shame and disappointment! Instead I was delighted and was listing all the different uses for the different colors. It’s become a fun family story now. I still have the container and refill it with zip ties when I get new ones! It’s a silly thing to hang on to, but it makes me smile every time I look at it. She got a bit weak in the knees when she saw the chefs knife I got in my stocking too!!
    Darling frames!!!

I live in the US, and I went on a trip to the UK with some friends and had an amazing time. While we were in Ireland we went to a small tea shop and one of the other girls used a tea cup with Love in a Mist flowers on it, and that was one of the most nostalgic flowers from my childhood because they would seed themself in our garden and bloom every year! I took a picture and planned to try to buy one someday in the future. When I got home, I went through my pictures from my trip with my parents and told my mom about it in a off handed way. That Christmas my mom found the teacup on Etsy and purchased it for me! I was SHOCKED and surprised because I had not even thought about it and I am so incredibly happy to have this teacup 5 years later as a memento, not only to remind me of the trip, but as a reminder of how thoughtful my mom is!

Oh man, keepsakes that took me by surprise... There's two that come to my mind as I sit here waiting for my breakfast to cook, and they could not be more different.
One is a handmade leather backed journal my long distance friend made for me and surprised me with on my birthday several years back. They made the whole thing from scratch and did a really cool paint/dye cover decoration inspired by Australian indigenous artwork, and though I've never used it, it's super sentimental to me and it makes me smile every time I see it in my display case.
The other keepsake is a very old Transformers action figure that one of my besties from high school gave me when I first discovered the franchise, and not only do I still have it, it started my collection of unique and fun Transformers action figures.
Very very different gifts, but both of them well loved and greatly appreciated.

Very very random gift but I crochet a lot, I use to use my hooks to do general sewing and my mum was watching and decided to gift me her darning needle from when she used to sew with her mum. I use it all the time and literally start to panic so bad every time I forget where I've placed it 2 minutes after using it. That needle is the reason I can make more intricate crochet pieces, and it was from my mother :D

I read a post when I was pregnant with my daughter that you should treat any gift from your child as if it's the best gift in the world because it's all they have to give. So now, I have a vase of all the flowers my kids have ever picked me. They're all dried but it's the sweetest thing to me because it's a symbol of every time they saw a pretty flower and thought of me. ❤

When I was pregnant (like hadnt told anyone but my close family)one of my clients crocheted a baby quilt for me, When she went home to Germany came back a gave it to me. I've never cried so hard in my life. My daughter is now 3 and takes that blanket with her every where.

I did some small educational sets in kindergartens. In one of them kids surprised me with this piece of cloth they painted animals on (I was educating on animals), framed and written a small note for me. The wonky lion, cat, rabbit, giraffe, elephant and some animals with way to many legs just absolutely made my day and more. I have it on my wall and it makes me happy every time I look at it.

My favorite gift is the first Mother's Day gift I "got" from my daughter. It's a delicate charm bracelet, and it only has 2 charms, even though I've had it for 22 years. The first charm was a silhouette heart that had my daughter's birth stone. My ex-husband gave me a matching charm with my birth stone. I stopped wearing it because it came off, and I didn't want to lose it.

The present that I love and cherish and actually my childhood teddy. A Sylvester teddy my uncle and aunt brought me from the USA when I was little. It’s not just any teddy, he disappeared while we were shopping at Southland back in the 90s and I was devastated, convinced I would never see him again, then on my birthday I was gifted a shoe box, and there he was, my Sylvester.
